WTB: A Nut - MD/21227 - Price: Within Reason

Long shot, but looking for a nut. Not expecting anybody to have it, but hoping someone might have an online resource/store or two I could maybe reach out to about possible stock

Reached out to dealer was told back order 4-6wks. Reached out to a couple other various ones across the states via email, and one of them, told me don’t have in stock and that there are currently 0 in the US. I’m assuming Subaru has a nationwide database they can check all dealer stock

Can wait the 4-6wks or so, but figure I’d check if there’s other resources possible that I might be able to get from sooner. Already searched Ebay for part number and Google Search pretty much just brings me hits for subaruparts and parts.subaru

Pretty sure these came with my STI v-bars. I replaced them with the new ones because why not, but the old ones were identical. I have 6x.

They do and that’s the nut that I need to replace. I figured they were used for other things, but I dunno

Are you sure the old ones are identical?

I have the old nuts stored away with the stock bars, but the sti bar instructions said to replace, so I assumed there was an intended purpose for replacing

Sometimes they're lock nuts that are meant to be used once. You can reuse a couple times without issue

Also I believe the old ones were silver and not black, which also makes me think they are different

You can just install with a plain nut in the meantime until you can get the replacement ordered

You’ll probably know, and I might as well ask here since I’ll delete this if using the old nut. I somehow stripped the center part of the bolt. So it’s got threads on top and bottom. Would I just use some of these to make it secure?

I got the stock nuts at home. I typically don’t trash or sell off stock parts for personal reasons and hoard them

I'm not sure. The part itself doesn't bear a lot of load, but as long as the stripped part isn't where the thread is actually needed

I’ll try to grab a pic later today or tomorrow if I remember. I did hit a kinda big bump after road work, so I’m assuming between vibration and that, the nut just went off

I’m guessing I caught some dirt or something when it went back on. Need to grab the bottom threads. I wouldn’t be able to get it off, since no heat gun, but red loctite I’m guessing over blue

As far as I’m aware hasn’t gone anywhere or affected anything, but want a nut back on it so it don’t look janky

Stuck blue loctite on the threads, screwed one of the old nuts on. Not too tight, but what felt like had tight with socket. Was afraid of doing too tight and maybe just spinning it loose. Put some loctite over the top of the bolt to drip it down nut hole to help add a bit more in between. Hoping this works and it holds 🤞🏼

Will check tomorrow and later in week by hand I guess. Thanks for the talks

I’m not really really knowledgeable when it comes to hardware parts and all their stuff. I had to google what a m8 nut is

Have the old Subaru ones. The instructions said to replace them, so I didn’t know if they were reusable or different

After hand playing with the wrong nut and figuring out what I was doing, played with the right one and it seems tight and holding. Will see how it goes for a week and delete if still feels like it’s tight, etc

Probably 20ish bucks. It’s only $7 for 2 with tax included, but I can’t give a exact shipping amount since I don’t have them here to give to my shipping for a quote

I slapped the old one on with blue loctite, so I’m not as worried atm as I was before. Need to check it though. Been raining the last 2 days. Sorta just want to replace the old one I used at this point and keep a spare in case the blue loctite don’t hold it and I need to try red

My locator says the Subaru warehouse in Texas has a few so any dealer around the country should be able to get them for you. They shouldn’t charge you shipping if you’re picking them up yourself

Hmm interesting. I was reaching out to a couple of rando dealers and basically got told there were none in the US

But yeah, I’m hoping the dealer don’t up charge me on it to get it for pickup. I’m comfortable doing the wait at this point to shave off like $10-$15
