nothing but space
If someone can post any BO tweets/updates here that would be much appreciated 🙏
I don’t think we have any yet tho
T-1 hour
No updates, but stream start time is still the same so it’s on track
New Shepard's 28th mission to space. The crew includes Emily Calandrelli, Sharon Hagle, Marc Hagle, Austin Litteral, James (J.D.) Russell, and Henry (Hank) W...
Theyre live
LIVE NOW: Tune in to watch the #NS28 webcast here: https://t.co/fyRvk5d0DB
I don't have much interest in NS but let's make this the dedicated New Shepard thread (since SS2-Delta isn't even guaranteed to exist anyway we need just one for tourist hops)
I like that idea
The app lists Tail 5 as flying today but its tail 4
They just said that in stream
They need to fix this stream
My god
Isn't it the new booster with the new livery?
Or did they repaint the old one?
No
They said it’s the old system
The 4th one
thread for a suborbital flight??? in MY nxf???? blasphemy!!
Starship threads:
Wth there's a thread
is it me or the stream is not doing okay 😭
The livery is NS4's
It’s bad
And it's RSS First Step
NS5 on NS-27
“wtf do you mean the stream’s running at 5fps
ohh”
NS4 on NS-26
And today's booster
youtube stream really said
Reached around 105km apogee
The sonic boom audio lol
New Shepard knew where it was at all times.
Yay!
BTW is this the first New Shepard flight ever to have NO holds during the webcast?
That I can remember yeah
They did pretty good today
Did they share anything new about New Glenn today that I missed?
real
nooshepard
Key stats from today’s #NS28 mission:
The Crew Capsule reached an apogee of 347,661 ft AGL / 351,308 ft MSL (106 km AGL / 107 km MSL).
The booster reached an apogee of 347,312 ft AGL / 350,959 ft MSL (106 km AGL / 107 km MSL).
Official launch time was 9:30:00 AM CST /
@mint osprey Do you agree? If so you can change the title
o
Man I always feel like such a creep looking up crew info for NS or VG flights because it's almost never just readily available on Wikipedia
Because for my list I (preferably) need their full name, birth date, and birthplace
sounds good :)
New Shepard Launches
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gzqw4tIGwIY
It's back on YT
On November 22, Blue Origin successfully completed its ninth human spaceflight and the 28th flight for the New Shepard program. The astronaut crew included: Emily Calandrelli, Sharon Hagle, Marc Hagle, Austin Litteral, James (J.D.) Russell, and Henry (Hank) Wolfond. Sharon and Marc Hagle both flew for the second time. Including today’s crew, New...
Core memory unlocked. #NewShepard #NS28
Let’s gooooo
AYOOOO
I actually forgor we had a single thread for NS launches
Wonder if it's Tail 5 w/ its first crew or Tail-4 again
So NS-29 has a window till 5:30 PM CST, I almost want it to delay that long so we get sunset launch
It won’t but it’d be cool
so what's on this one?
We don't know yet
Although I don't think they have announced a crew yet, which they usually do in advance
So I suspect its a payload flight
oh
Yeah I bet this is payload
For crew flights they say the crew ahead of time even before notices come out
The New Shepard crew capsule is using its Reaction Control System (RCS) to spin up to approximately 11 revolutions per minute. This spin rate simulates one-sixth Earth gravity at the midpoint of the crew capsule lockers. In simulated lunar gravity, customers can accelerate their learning and technology readiness for lunar payloads at much lower cost. Previously, the Moon’s gravity could only be simulated a few seconds at a time via centrifuge drop tower or for ~20 seconds aboard parabolic flights.
Tail 5
where did you get tail 5 from that
This mission will fly our dedicated payloads capsule paired with our recently-debuted booster, demonstrating the compatibility between the boosters and capsules in our fleet and increasing launch availability for our customers.
Wasn’t related to the blurb of text I sent lol
We are excited to bring our lunar-G capability online. Thanks to NASA for the support. This is an entirely new way to bring lunar gravity to NASA and other lunar technology providers, accelerating their research and tech readiness at a much lower cost. Plus, we can adapt this New Shepard capability to closely mirror Mars and other solar system g...
banger patch
And dedicated payloads capsule = RSS H.G.Wells
patch with Tail 5 booster and Tail 3/4 capsule
wild
They’re demonstrating they can just swap stuff out as needed
BO is so good at making patches god damn
They're like on the same level as Chinese patches
Did we ever learn something about the crew capsules having serial numbers?
I vaguely recall a conversation about that...
they kinda do
the propulsion modules are "tails". Tail 4 and 5 are the only active ones at the moment (Tail 1 was lost in NS-1, Tail 2 I think was retired, and Tail 3 was lost in NS-23)
not sure what the capsules are called, but now they have I think capsules 3, 4 and 5 (3 is cargo only and planned for NS-29, capsules 1 and 2 were demos, 4 flew NS-16 with Bezos and all their other crew flights, and 5 is planned to fly crew in the future)
before they married tails and capsules so they flew together, NS-29 is showing they can mix and match (probably partially motivated by losing tail 3 but wanting to use the capsule that flew with it)
Capsule 3 is RSS H. G. Wells
Capsule 4 is RSS First Step
Capsule 5 is RSS Kármán Line
The original retired one is RSS Jules Verne
IIRC the 3 active ones are Crew Capsule 2.0-1 to 3, but don't quote me on that
Tail 2 was (is) housed in Blue's Cape Canaveral facility indoors
do we have an established naming system for new glenn tails
GS1 SN1 doesn't really roll off the tounge
yep
It was moved to a museum recently (I forgor the name), now there's Blue Moon Mockup in the Cape facility
GS1-SN001

Oh it's at the Smithsonian now
ye
wow graffiti patch
THEY’RE GONNA DO THE THING

New Shepard’s next uncrewed mission, NS-29, is targeting liftoff on Tuesday, Jan. 28! This time, we’re simulating the Moon’s gravity in our capsule. Our launch window opens at 10 a.m. CST (1600 UTC), with the webcast starting 15 minutes before liftoff. Learn more: https://bit.ly/3Ci...
Yes GS1-SN001 So You're Telling Me There's a Chance
Where is this from?
The source is that I made it up
a screenshot from my spreadsheet but it's originates from Gunter's Space Page
https://space.skyrocket.de/doc_sat/new-shepard_history.htm
Gunter's Space Page - Information on Launch vehicles, Satellites, Space Shuttle and Astronautics
I would make fun of the SN having three digits but F9 isn't far away from B1100 so
(and probably consistency with the expendable S2s)
