Is that a cover for the solar panels
I think so, I've seen it on other Dragons prior to launch

Axiom Mission 3, set to lift off at 5:11 p.m. EST (2211 UTC) on Wednesday, Jan. 17, is Axiom's third private astronaut mission to the International Space Station. Ax-3 is launching from NASA's Kennedy Space Center aboard SpaceX's Dragon Freedom spacecraft.
During their two-week stay aboard the orbiting laboratory, the crew of Ax-3—commander Mic...
Wow, B1080 will be sending its second crew to the station and first repeat Dragon flier

A bit concerning that they didn't tell us what booster was flying in the description
Fortunately we already know which booster is flying this one
But hopefully they keep telling us the booster for other launches
Cause otherwise we're kind of fucked
That’s not a good sign
Try to guess the booster by the soot marks with the 244p resolution from twitter

twitter's spambots go brrrrrrrrr
I’ve never seen a booster with soot marks like that before, there’s more on the top part. Maybe it’s always been that way and I just never noticed
Probably from the MVac exhaust hitting on it during boostback burn
It was already rather sooty on that side during the landing burn it did for Axiom-2. Sometimes that happens where the MVac just blasts the booster with its soot
The FH side boosters also get a lot of soot from the exhaust of the center core for example
I think that's just a PR intern (?) oversight because the page still states the flight history of Dragon. If they went away with that they don't need to.
Hopefully, yeah
RTLS photos at LB ignition will never not look absolutely batshit
I love this rocket so much
mf comes in at a 45 degree angle and doesn't care
if it does become an issue in the future we can still get higher res shots on the mission page when they actually take a new photo instead of just reusing an old one
https://sxcontent9668.azureedge.us/cms-assets/assets/Axiom_3_vertical_011624_DSC_2857_desktop_22a1e4a75b.jpg
okay sure it starved of fuel but it still didn't care lmao
just fired right back up for landing
truly a chad rocket, more resilient than soyuz*
*nowadays, probably
I figured it was because of the boost back burn since most boosters that do asds landing don’t have it
One of my favorite photos of all time
Crew-7 landing scared the crap out of me
AND the ice being formed o top of it as well

Does anyone know if the post-FRR conference is anywhere available?
Axiom Space is building for beyond, guided by the vision of a thriving home in space that benefits every human, everywhere. The leading provider of human spaceflight services and developer of human-rated space infrastructure, Axiom Space operates end-to-end missions to the International Space Station today while developing its successo...
Isn't that the crew conference?
Post-FRR conference was in December
December 13th in fact, my birthday
During this virtual press conference, Axiom Space, NASA, SpaceX, and mission partners provided an overview of the third private astronaut mission to the International Space Station, Axiom Mission 3 (Ax-3).
The event provided a high-level review of mission operations and objectives and officially kicked off major media efforts for the Ax-3 miss...
This one?
FFS I was looking on that channel but on the livestreams
Ugh
I hate that everything is all over the place
@ABernNYC @Axiom_Space @NASA @SpaceX @SLDelta45 @Space_Station 14/ Reed said they are working toward certifying the Crew Dragon spacecraft to 15 flights and they feel "very good" about that.
He added that the booster supporting the mission also flew Ax-2 and ESA's Euclid telescope (which would make it B1080).
"but but but crew-5 heatshield but but SpaceX cheaping out uh uhhhh LOCV soon I swear bro SpaceX is going down Astra sweep 👍👍"
there probably exists a timeline where astra leads the private spaceflight industry
I could believe that there's a timeline out there where NASA/DARPA kept all the hardware they put into Astra for itself and made Rocket 3 exist as a semi-successful government smallsat vehicle
But Astra as a company? Nah
spacex bankruptcy tomorrow!!!!
Nooooooo

Clock stopped at KSC
And also reset
Btw that clock was counting down to 5:11:03PM EST
Not that it matters now but our entry had 5:11:25PM EST for some reason
It’s from here which IIRC is in a ISS event text file by NASA that I forgot the URL: https://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?topic=32006.msg2558520#msg2558520
Schedule of ISS flight events (part 2) [Updates Only]
So is it a scrub for the day?
Seems so
Still waiting for official updates

TFR for today is gone, only the ones for 18th and 19th remain
Dang I was so excited
Yeah that happened today at 9AM EST, result is no go for today
Hence this

SpaceX is targeting no earlier than Thursday, January 18 for Falcon 9’s launch of Axiom Space’s Axiom Mission 3 (Ax-3) to the International Space Station from Launch Complex 39A (LC-39A) at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The instantaneous launch window is at 4:49 p.m. ET.
damnittttt
Bottom Dragon where
All systems are looking good for today’s launch of Ax-3. Liftoff is targeted for 4:49 p.m. ET, and weather is 80% favorable → http://spacex.com/launches

Why is there Turkey spam in chat
Is there a Turk on this one?
I haven't been keeping up with ISS crews
The first Turkish astronaut yes
Nice
For the record, William Harwood has it at :11.

jesus fucking christ y'all weren't kidding about the Turkey spam
It’s absurd 😭
T-1 minute
Liftoff
So odd to see crew views right after liftoff
Since the NASA crew launches don't allow it
And not have them bouncing around like soyuz lmao

MECO, SSep, SES-1, BBB start
Not great visuals from the cape but absolutely incredible sound
there goes the booster

woah no way
rahhh
Wow, that’s gotta be a turnaround record for a person
Record number of ppl in space?
Maybe but probably not
IIRC some Shuttle astros flew multiple times in a year
Oh wow 😮
There was one astronaut who flew back to back missions now that I think about it
Replaced Tim Kopra who got injured
sanity check since there's some jackwagon on Twitter claiming this was single engine EB and 1-3-1 LB
I'm 99.99999999% sure it's not (know for a fact Crew-7 wasn't, dunno why this would be different) but, well, sanity checking for a reason
they literally say 1-3-1/1 in the webcast and on the mission page
what’s the normal entry burn
1-3-1?
I didnt see any expansion from more engines in the entry burn, and it did look like 3 were running and went down to 1 for lb
A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched the “Freedom” Crew Dragon spacecraft for Axiom Space’s Axiom Mission 3 (Ax-3) to the International Space Station, from the Launch Complex 39A (LC-39A) at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, on 18 January 2024, at 21:49 UTC (16:49 EST). Ax-3 crew includes commander Michael López-Alegría, pilot Walter Villade...
Typical is 1-3-1 entry burn, single engine landing burn, all FH and some specific F9 are 1/1-3-1
oh
Honestly I don't see expansion on either the EB or LB but I assume that's just a visual oddity or I'm not looking closely enough
I’m pretty sure I saw some engines shut down from the ground view
during lb
maybe its the zoom, lighting or a cloud but
Landing burns have been 1-3-1 for a long time now
F9 landing burns are for the huge majority only single engine
1-3-1 landing burns have been a thing since early on but not common nor even the norm
I'd even venture to say there have been less than 20 landings with that burn profile
I forgot that droneship landings exist. Was there a recent RTLS with single engine all the way?
Ovzon-3 was single engine
Unless they're squeezing performance from the rocket, all RTLS landings tend to be single engine
It's only the ones that need to squeeze performance from the rocket the ones that use 1-3-1
There's been only a handful of those so far
Plus the FH side boosters and then a few GTO missions early on had 1-3-1 landing but was changed to single engine within a few landings as they gained experience
see what makes no sense to me is why they do it on Transporter if it's a performance optimization
even with RTLS, downcosted S2 and a relatively heavy payload stack it should still be a super light load
the two ships have successfully dicked
🤯🤯
dicked
indeed
dicked
and Ax-3 turns out to be the slowest to dock

When will reentry start? Is it landing in the gulf or off the east coast?
It is now under blackout
For some reason SpaceX keeps showing the wrong infographic on stream
I was able to see Crew-6 reentry and was hoping I’d be able to see it again but it’s too cloudy outside
Heard the sonics and was very confused LOL
