Anomaly
Second stage failure strikes again
Anomaly with Stage 2
anomaly procedures section 25
F
ugh

Big sad
Ok, I guessed again, S2 ignition failure.
cool to see the ignition thingy tho
Yeah
wait what launch did an S2i fail recently
Sparky
Terran going back to Terra
other than this one
H-III
H3
ZQ-2 also had issues with the upper stage preventing it from orbit
why do i keep doing this.
staging is hard
It was different on ZQ-2, main engine worked fine
Verniers….
was a problem with the second phase of second stage flight, with the Verniers
H-III, and now Terran 1 is my second victim
yea ik
So glad they’re ditching them
It was a flight dynamic issue as well that wouldn't come up on the test stand
btw when will Dream Chaser fly ?
Second flight will still use them
nobody knows
I see
gotcha
ty
Which one is gonna use the tq-15?
ofc
Now it’s up to the shareholders
iirc the third one
First stage seemed to do pretty well. Haven’t seen a blue flame like that before. Had a nice roar for being so small too.
Got it
Will Terran 1 fly again
I hope it does
gotta give that second stage engine props for trying so damn hard
also if it had ignited it would have been so damn pretty
It looked like successful ignition then something started burning inside the engine
with several sparks too
It started to ignite but something failed during the ignition sequence it looked like
Man that first stage fire looks so good
for sure
kinda weird that it seems like the gas generator was still running
Empty
I'd have 2
Also
That flame though
i’m starting to think second stages do sometimes fail
yeah, imagine it’s a carbon copy of VO and they had a fuel filter clog a line leading towards in sufficient prop being fed to sustain combustion
it looked like,
ignition
something starts burning and causing several sparks
shutdown with the gas generator still running?
I wonder if the stage was pointing at the correction direction around and post stage sep
it looked like it ignited successfully for at least half a second
I think this should have more protections or coatings.
The thing that got me confused is that it seemed like the GG was still running
mm yes
solution is always more thermal paste
mm yeah
Congratulations @Relativity launch on the maiden voyage of Terran 1!
Y'all, the world's first 3D printed rocket just passed Max Q and it was stunning to see the trail of a methane fueled rocket for the first time.

Huge congratulations to my friends at @relativityspace. That was a beautiful first launch and you all have so much to be proud of. Dig into that sweet flight data and go again! #GLHF
That picture is amazing
Holy shit that's beautiful
Nice launch.
incredible stage 1 performance
Got further than I expected it to.
same
failed but nice launch
What a show @relativityspace put on for the world tonight, breaking ground and exceeding their own objectives for their first launch. Congratulations to the Terran 1 team!
Stage 1 performed flawlessly it seemed so thats nicee
Kinda wish it had a nice kaboom but this 'failure' was certainly better for Relativity.
great minds think alike... 😂
Allows them to get more data problably
Definitely from stage 1.
Small blue flame from the house. Was wondering what was happening when I never saw second stage kick on after meco.
They've shown that their production method is usable. Time will tell if it's going to be practical with cost.
Still did better than I expected. Was really expecting a rud on Max Q.
Maybe next time
Hopefully not.
I'm still curious about possible material flaws introduced in the manufacturing process. That's where I would expect to see a problem. If it is a problem, it's certainly not too bad of one.
idk why they seemed to be saying that was the big barrier, I don't think we've seen another rocket in the past couple decades break apart at max q with no other issues
because it’s a completely novel way of building the thing so it hasn’t really been tested in flight before
basically it validated their sims and models that it’d make it through
because if it didn’t then it would be a massive issue for them
also, notably they didn’t have a pad fallback which makes me very very happy to see
Melting metal changes its properties. I'm no expert in metallurgy, but I can see how they could have a lot of weak points.
fair enough
Obviously that didn't cause a problem with this flight, and I'm sure they designed everything with that in mind.
They had good luck and it seems everyone had fun, so the mission was a success.
HOOOOT
Mach diamonds
lovely
That didn't age well
What happened
Second stage failure
Seems like stage 1 performed flawlessly but then stage 2 failed to ignite
it was a good attempt tho, very impressive
you happened

They got to staging, but the second stage looks like it didn't work out. Still overachieved their own expectations.

It looks like the 2nd stage engine never ramped up to full thrust (probably “engine rich combustion”)
That's unfortunate
second stage failures are the worst
ngl that plume on ascent was so cool
Le sads it broke

yeah rip second stage
can't wait for starship engines to not ignite
Starship engines don't ignite on the ground
no but fr imagine the plume from Superheavy
I fell asleep at fucking 11:16
I jinxed the 2nd stage
Asked everyone if they thought it was gonna cause issues

It was a beautiful launch though
I genuinely thought max q was going to be the event that would bring it down
i woke up at 2 but saw that it was delayed so I went back to sleep
But it handled it like a beast

beautacious
Hello fellow Fi user
Hello
dayum
eh, didn’t look like it ate itself. looked like it didn’t get the consistent prop it needed
Artemis 1’d
@tender oasis
AAHHHHH
Kraus takes the W for this one
I need a print of that to go along with my B7 static fire
I'm waiting for Michael to drop his stuff and see what he got
Cause so far Relativity has only posted one picture from him and I'm itchy to see more
Full rocket at liftoff, that bluish tint is something

@tender oasis
First live launch I’ve ever seen raw with my own two eyes 👀 I told myself when I founded @relativityspace that my first launch viewing would be our own rocket, as motivation to make it there, and here we are. What a sight to behold, feel, and hear - indescribably awe inspiring.

Lol
Ahhh there we go!! https://twitter.com/nextspaceflight/status/1638934327105843202
These pictures are absolutely amazing
They are
Nice wallpaper
That one's good
mine is this
The holy soda can
Every time I explain "that's real!?"
well, I don’t think the ignitor was what failed
This is literally the most beautiful failed launch I've ever seen
oh my gosh I need this image immediately
note the word restart
requires it to start in the first place 🙂
She sure did try
means they can run a high number of start cycles
Yep
a restart is just a start
Terran 1 shalt not pull a B1033
just need to have the consumables and an engine designed to be fired more than once
what did 1033 do
ah
Ran out of TEA-TEB, no ignition for LB iirc
Or only some of them ignited
Forgor FH does 1-3-1
it was pretty cool that it tried like 5 times tho
yes I know
rip
I had that as mine for a while
RT: First flight of Relativity's Terran 1. First-ever orbital-class launch for a methane-fueled first stage in the U.S. produced purple and blue colored flames and was much dimmer than any other of the 346 launches I have shot to date. Very cool.

Do you have different wallpapers for when unfolded
Also I love the lockscreen text
Yep
Mine used to be "you are being recorded"
