Well, working together in a match with him could make it more enjoyable for him since he isn't just sitting on the side while you go off and do your thing.

Okay so he can deal with stuff on his own mostly. Try putting him in the spotlight if he's hiding behind you when he plays with you

I don't play with people often so I'm not super good at this, but i try to either put both of us on the same level in terms of leading or be the follower myself

Yeah thats where I'd make him lead and just try to clean up his mistakes if he makes any

If there's someone thats not looking let him get a shot and if he fails to kill then you get it. If someone is looking its fair game thoughclueless

i am pretty patient with the game, but it only takes 1-2 bad matches for him to leave/switch games

Then it seems more like a patience issue with him then.
You don't seem like a try hard other than decent stats but that doesn't really mean anything since, to me at least, a tryhard is someone who only plays to win rather than someone with a good KD

Take DEFYN for example, he has very good KDs in planes but he isn't a try hard, he just knows what he's doing
