its a great dogfighter
pop airbrake and turn and you will do well in most 1v1s against most players
the aim7ms arent as crazy as the ERS but still a very solid missile, it will net you kills but you have to watch your launches
aim9l is an aim9l, suprise people with it
Don't the F-16 9Ls ignore flares if your rear on a lot 🤔
Since I played the A-10 a lot and being slow the missile starts slow so easy to flare or out run if you like 3.5km +
not anymore
the Aim9L has the best flare resistance out of all ir missiles besides magic 2s i think?
idk abt python actually
but the aim9l is much better at filtering out flares compared to all other missiles besides those two
the issue is that the aim9l bore size (small inner circle) is larger so it will see more flares at any given time
the inverse is the reason why the strela can ignore flares sometimes bc the seeker is so small it literally just doesnt see them
so yeah no 9Ls will rarely ignore flares unless the guy just flies in a straight line or flares improperly(this is actually harder to do than it sounds)
python 3 has the same flare resistance as 9L
Pretty sure the R27T has the best flare resistance since it has ECCM
r27t does not
The ECCM is effectivly useless on the r27t(from my experience)
gotcha
ive def had people flare them
even without dropping AFB
from a rearaspect window
i havent really used em since i got the Ers
but still
We can test it if you want
You don't have the R27Ts?
Yeah I don't have them
I wont talk if you dont mind
I tested it with the f4e before and as long as it was rear aspect the missile always hit
what range?
3-5
semi dodging and flaring
dodge too much and itll be side aspect and itll immediately go for flares
invite again?
i mean thats how you properly dodge missiles
you turn your engine away from the incoming missiles
and leave flares between
sure
what plane do you want me in
so i cant test that
take an f14
that way it has the highest chance of ignoring flares
didnt get to change in time
ah
Basically, the 27t has the potential to ignore flares
either bc eccm or bc the bore head is so small
sometimes it just doesnt see the flare
but if it does see the flare it will go for it
so its angle of launche dependent
- if the enemy deploys flares, waits a second and then turns the missile will see the flares and go for them
but if they just turn + flare it goes for the plane
so yeah this missile prolly has the best flare resistance?
again havent tested a python 3 so idk

I thought they modelled ECCM for flares too but i was wrong
ECCM does work vs flares
We tested it and it didn't seem so
Are they unflarable?
I feel like I've flared stingers in the past but mightve been something else
Yep
Once it's on you need to dodge
Had a A-4E before drop like 20 CMs and it didn't care
Nice
In a rear aspect shot against an afterburning target they may (but also may not) ignore flares. F14s are particularly vulnerable, their engines run real hot. Also a reminder to just make it a habit to cut your burner when flaring a missile.
So far the like 6 games I have
I don't have a issue to flare but more like always run into like 5 people and have no help also radar missiles I don't know how to dodge yet
Example went around the map low and fast ran into 2 F-14B, a mirage and 2 F-16s and got AIM-7 by a 14 before I could even try to lock 1 of them
From my knowledge you go low and perpendicular to the missile
Fly very low, it will look like the missile is about to hit you but it'll hit the ground at the last second. This is 100% effective currently, there is no radar missile in-game that can hit a ground-skimming target (the high proxy fuze radius and warhead size on an AIM-54 can occasionally damage you with like a 10-15 meter miss but this isn't really worth worrying about).
I was about to write a whole thing about how to notch radar missiles but I'll just leave you with this which explains it far better than I can
Can finally cross this off the 'To Do' list :)
Let me know if I've missed anything or any information is incorrect.
Feel free to ask a question.
Thanks to you 2 who helped make this video.

Hopefully this will help some of y'all that were having issues dealing with top tier foes like the F-16, F-14, or MiG-29. Try to not die :)
Rampage's video on missiles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PICL4dLt2zI&t=7s
Seeks video on BVR: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ka_duhsT2Oo&t=26s
the first vid is more about defeating a missile when jousting with someone at altitude (that vid came out before apex predators update), the second is perhaps more relevant to the current state of top tier. But both will teach you things much more efficiently than trial-and-error in a live match would.
