ive been having a lot of issues with the mig23mla radar. i cant change the radar scope and its stuck on 30km, MTI mode doesnt have IFF. Whenever im above 2k altitude the MTI mode turns off and all I can use is search and search look down mode. is there anyway i can fix this?

Scope range is fixed, 30km, above 2k altitude SRC LD is the same as SRC MTI and it auto switches between the two.

im pretty sure src ld is not src mti because i get lots of ground clutter

I’m not sure why that is, it is supposed to be the same effective version of Russian pulse Doppler

MTI (Moving Target Indication) is a radar mode similar to (but not as good as) Pulse-Doppler, it unfortunately just doesn't support IFF. Search Look-Down uses post-processing to reduce ground-clutter aka it's essentially a normal radar search mode with reduced ground clutter (as you noticed, it doesn't fully get rid of it tho)

above 2km altitude the radar automatically switches from MTI to SRC LD, that can't be changed

however above 2km altitude you can toggle between 30, 60 and 90 km radar search

As you stated above, MTI is similar to PD, my statement was meant based on game function and my experience. I appreciate your longer and more detailed explanation

yeah i feel MTI is unfortunately still rather vulnerable to chaff but pretty good against ground clutter

I haven’t tested it myself against chaff as I usually just use the r24t, but I would imagine it’s better than normal radar, no?

I mostly use the R-24T with IRST as well, I was just today playing around with the radar and R-24R and noticed that in a dogfight, i all of a sudden had the enemies chaff locked

I don't have a whole lot of experience with the normal radar mode of the MiG-23 so i can't quite tell how much worse that would be

I’ve noticed it happening with my f14 as well in pd mode. Occasionally it will lock the chaff and I don’t know why. Might just be buggy radar atm

interesting, I don't have any aircraft with PD Radar unlocked sadly, but afaik PD shouldn't have any problem with chaff unless the target is already notching anyway

Yeah. I think it was a bad lock and he was going slightly away so it caught the chaff as well. I can’t really explain it and it’s not constantly or consistently happening
