This is most likely that your friend has speaker on and is not using an earphone/bluetooth, so the audio output from the phone speakers itself just directly feed into the phone microphone and produce echoes. And if your friend is already using an earphone/bluetooth, try to lower his game volume to avoid feeding the audio output of the game into the microphone directly.
