When you start a match, it will connect you to the nearest server of the location that you are currently residing, but the server locations cannot cover everywhere, therefore, shorter distances from a server provide you with the lower ping and hence a better game-play, while further distance requires additional miles of optic cable for the data packets to traverse, thus higher ping. In this case, there is not much that you can do about it.
