#Baby animals that walk with the mom

Probably best to harvest Dad and Mom first and then clean up the slower game.. 🤔
Why should the developers waste time (and thus money) for something that adds nothing but ambience when they could use that time and effort to develop new species that you can hunt instead? Also if “babies” were added, some adults would have to be removed as the engine can only handle a limited overall population. In my opinion, more would be lost than gained if they did this.
Dude, if they do this, everyone is just gonna shoot the kids. I have friends who have nothing to do with this game, and would play just to do that. They asked me if you could do that
The game CAN'T handle animal Aging it wasn't an intended mechanic sadly
TrueSize would be much better than this. In COTW, the animals do not breed and don't grow. I want this idea for WOTH.
And then there are those who wouldn't touch it if baby animals were involved in hunting. It's a two way street with its pros and cons. As cool as it would be to see them wandering around, I don't think it really fits the game truly
If Seasons were added along with a permit mechanic that ties in heavy penalties I could see an offspring growth system or if this was applied I'd like to see wardens post jobs & tasks for population management for ea. unit in the reserve. It would be 10x's better than literally shooting everything that breaths, crawls, swims, & flies. I always hated this games free will to do so after you finish the story. I'd rather keep the gameplay going assisting the wardens keep the ecology in check since thats the point of the games narrative. Your invited to a location to not only hunt but to assist with wildlife management. I do like how the NPC's also play a role from various fields as well as local. Having offspring does present photography opportunities as well as visually seeing Units grow. Now as for the diabolical act of shooting 1! This can easily be avoided in the same sense as the dog being in the way when you try to shoot. Idrc if ppl leave the title bc, this gives the reserves more life over feeling empty & it fits with the core games message.
Dont misunderstand me, I'm well aware this will never happen in this title however I can see this being applied in a future franchise title so yes I support the thought to be considered. If ppl feel its a waste of effort I highly disagree as I also see this applying to reserves having all 4 seasons to choose from that also adds breeding behaviors such as Rut & Lekking. Seeing offspring applies more life to the atmosphere even if its just for esthetics for the Spring Season. When the Game released it was a Sim based title that actually took real life scenarios into account giving the message that a hunter has an important role. As ppl keep betraying the game today & the new direction EW took bc of that, the message was lost & drowned out. As a result, TH:CotW is now known as a culling Sim. This is sad to see bc that was what separated this game from previous titles is falling into following existing trends. So yea I hope the next franchise goes bk to its roots & applies various features that further discourages arcade shooter gameplay.
Probably in COTW 2.0. With the current COTW, it wouldn’t be worth it.
I dont disagree
This idea is perfect for Planet Zoo and Prehistoric Kingdom.
as long as EW keeps encouraging and even endorsing non realistic hunter behavior then I don't really see them adding this ...
I compare this to the atmospheric birds on Layton .... As the game became more of an arcade sim and they added console support it has become a liability instead of a feature .....
To much CPU drain for too little benefit .... Unless they can depict it somehow without additional CPU cycles I dont really see it happening ....
EW's redirection is an issue as it continues to stray from its core msg. I hate saying it but ever since G1's became the majority of the players focus the title shifted in a bad way. Narratives are dry & short, G1's are fantasy themed, & open play allows players to kill everything w/o consequences. Thats not hunting thats another gallery shooter. What also bothers me is ppl keep asking for animal aggression like its Cabelas Dangerous Hunt which is disturbing to me.
It seems that there are fewer missions with every new map.
Grizzly Bear in COTW is just a Teddy. I want it to be an aggressive bear.
I couldn't agree more on the narratives its nothing like it was in the base game or 1st 2 Dlc's and gradually has been watered down. I had hope that AR would be great like NEM but it was a self centered young lady that got carried away this seriously bothered me. As for Grizzlies I concur their teddy bears as they are and should have territorial aggression even faint charges. I also encourage EW to add claw marks on trees as additional sign other than poop & tracks. I would also prefer carcasses & bones at dens over general feed zones to boot for most predator species. But with Grizzlies I'd prefer to see them fishing in water ways not just at ponds but rivers & streams.
With the fishing it’s really only costal grizzly’s that do that and Yukon is inland, inland bears don’t fish like their costal relatives. The map also sadly doesn’t have ideal fishing spots for the bears : waterfalls, shallow rapids, and river mouths, where it would make sense to see them fishing more actively.
Bear Signs: Scratches, Broken Logs for examples.
I was referring to future releases. Atm they should have foraging animations. I would suggest them hunting prey occasionally but given how the community is hellbent about it it'll likely never occur which bothers me alot. Also black bears do catch trout in shallow streams so I dont see a reason it shouldn't be considered. This also applies to Raccoons in this case as well.
Ah fair, would greatly enjoy seeing subspecies for the grizzlies then, might be easier to implement the different behaviors per map that way.
In COTW, the bears cannot cross the river.
Yeah no animals aside from some birds, crocodilians, and beaver can, rather silly but creates less water retrieval at least
• @sleek bone - Thats my point that ea. Predator should have various animations in different Reserves. • @hollow prism- another reason why pathing should be reworked. • @sleek bone- The water retrieval never made sense to me outside of Gators, Crocs, Waterfowl. Beavers is pushing it imho since its not ideal to shoot them in the water. If GAME are in the shallows retrieval makes sense but all other game shouldnt be in the deeper pools. If you shoot while drinking it should either drop where it stands or flee away from the shore. Also to note Salt Croc should ambush at the waters edge over chasing you like they do. I'm not denying they can just like gators but its alittle much.
I agree, unfortunately I think the way they currently have it set up only looks at a chance to go aggressive and doesn’t take into account the animals zone or where it is within the environment which is why the current aggressiveness for crocodilians is a bit goofy
I figured as much. N I'm aware my request to have them act differently based on environment is asking to much since EW uses a single development blueprint for ea. Species. However I still want predators to look, sound, & act more natural when their reworked. This includes hunting/foraging behavior, territorial pathing, more authentic audio calls, & territorial aggression when warnings are ignored. This however doesn't apply to all predators such as Crocs, Badgers/Wolverines, African Leopard etc.. These predator examples demeanors dont usually have warnings like most.
Also to note since we got off topic from offspring. Adding young would also apply Prey & esp. Predators to be more defensive if applied.
Biggest issue I see with offspring is that there aren’t really any maps that have the right timing for there to be offspring. Mostly as they’re based irl hunting seasons when babies are mostly grown and wouldn’t be seen anyways
I also agree. As I mentioned earlier the only way I see this applied is if 1. All 4 seasons are applied & 2. a growth mechanic is added. In truth I'd love to get the option to pick any reserve & select a season that applies to various GAME seasons including furbears and varmints. Furthermore ea. Season has various GAME Behavior mechanics.
EW should be able to apply alot more features on a clean slate by now for a new franchise title. I'm still shocked their still supporting TH:CotW after 8yrs. Again I'm glad to see more locations an their gradually getting better at adding new species & reworks. But in that regard I would've expected to see more equipment, ammo, tools, and additional GAME gameplay mechanics added by now. Dont get me wrong as I said earlier feeders was a good start and AR did improve alot of needed reworks but crushed alot of players with the 30-30 map exclusive & its narrative. This old engine ver. will reach its limit eventually not to mention does prevent advanced progress to features that could be applied.
From what I can find cotw’s dev team is tiny so it doesn’t shock me that they do continued support compared to making a new game
Though they might just be waiting for an engine upgrade in order to get up to par with the next gen stuff as Cotw is built on EWs custom APEX engine. Which takes time unfortunately
Thats not really a good explaination to justify it when other titles that have small teams are able to progress a single title &/or continue a franchise. Warframe even though is free I believe is a small team (dont quote me), also Forza Horizon is another example of a 5-10 man team. However what I can see is EW is testing the limits till they cant before diving into a new title which is a gamble.
War frame is 200+ devs and forza has hundreds as well?
I wouldn't have pressed my concurn but after TA:CotW was short lived when it had so much potential is a flag to me if that makes sense.
Motorsport yes but Horizon is a seperate team but even so EW admitted it has grown & in the grand scheme to other developers 200 is still small. But its still valid.
Yes but cotw’s dev team is only around the 40s, Horizons art design team alone was apparently between 40-70 people, not saying cotws devs are perfect mind you but it does explain some things
8yrs is still a strong run from a business standpoint along with Gen Zero & TA:CotW in terms of profit overtime. But even if EW didn't release another franchise title I'm still shocked EW hasn't released a new product let alone make an announcement is my general point. Its coming up on 2026 & the latest title to my knowledge was The Angler.
having bears fishing would have been as simple as moving some of the feed zones to the edge of the water sources ....
Instead they caved into the grinders that complained about having to hunt bears at night .... They could have kept their drink zones at night and move at least 1/2 their feed zones the water ways ....
Now its kind of ridiculous to see them drinking with Elk ....
They should have some daytime grazing/foraging zones as well seems like cotws bears are strictly carnivorous which is not correct. Bears are opportunistic omnivores eating grass, berries and whatever they can find. Should have em interact with the trash cans on Mississippi as well like the raccoons.
@heady bane-@sleek bone Both have valid points. Again these changes should appear suttle & natural. Sadly as they are its too obvious to not notice something isn't right. Now I know I'm an odd ball from the overall player community that I dedicate my time hunting Predators/Furbearers/Varmints. But since I do I notice alot of issues that can be improved on in the reworks as well as equipment we're missing. Prey I get is 75% of the species in-game but its no excuse to ignore the 15% of predators either.
But were off topic if EW was to release a new franchise title I would have no issues with Offspring being added.
