#I need these guys in my COTW Life ...

Big Bad and mean AF ...
The only semi-realistic way we could get these is if we got a Cambodian Reserve
I did read an article from 2022 about talks regarding the reopening of hunting there and while I don’t think it wound up happening
A Cambodian Reserves story could revolve around hunting reopening in the country for the first time in decades
And if this did happen I could see the Gaur being the headliner species
Of course I did say “Semi-realistic”
@vital pawn Of course I did say “Semi-realistic”
Isn't that the very definition of HCOTW 😉
This on a map with peacocks and asiatic bears and I'm already happy with that map lol
totally agree with you, its truly something else seeing these guys in person, absolutely massive creatures. Its a shame that they aren't very well known
Maybe a small map /reserve somewhere in South Asia ... Where peafowl, Gaur, Asiatic Bears and a few more class 1-2 species can be found ...
No more than 6 or 7 species .... I wouldn't even mind a tiger or two 😉
by asiatic bears do you mean sloth bears? melursus ursinus or asiatic black bears? Ursus thibetanus
I think the Asiatic bears are more numerous and common of the two ... but the sloth bears would also be great to see ... truthfully I would be happier with either one ....
If they were to add sloth bears they would need to up the aggression ... but I'm here mainly for the Gaur ....
Why small map again? If they have the resources, all the maps might as well be big, even if they are waterfowl focused like Revontuli
just to limit the number of species .... I think the small maps work better with 7-9 species .... Medved is a large map and the species list is too small IMO ....
I realize not everyone likes the small maps ... I'm good either way ....
Well, they stopped making big maps with less animals since Revontuli, and I don't think we'll ever have another big map with less than 10-12 species again, and what about the old maps, they can go back and backfill once in a while and eventually they'll come up to the new standards
If someone wants to do a southeast asia map ... have at it .... This is not really a map Idea ... I just want to hunt Gaur .....
Im actually thinking of making one for a good South Asian tropical map
Laos could work too: https://discord.com/channels/393040947006406657/1324878522644435014
Swap Gaur out for banteng?
Both Gaur and Banteng are on my map idea, gaur just don’t have a range map yet
In theory we could have them on a Texas map
It’s never too late
I wouldn’t be surprised if the gaur on many Texan game ranches were actually their domesticated counterparts the Gayal
I don’t doubt that animal in the picture is a Gaur and I have no doubt a couple ranches in Texas have wild gaur running around but I wouldn’t be surprised if there were game ranches offering Gayal as Gaur
Here is an image of some Gayal for reference
All of the “Gaur” on hunting ranches are Gayal, as for some reason under Texas law it is illegal to hunt or kill a Gaur. No clue why but I personally wouldn’t mind Gayal if they add a Texan game ranch.
Plus, seeing as they can look like this, I personally think they’re more impressive than Gaur.
I did read that about Gaur being illegal to hunt in Texas
Could Gaur be on a Mongolian map?
No, the only bovine that would work on a Mongolian map are Feral Yaks, Gaur are exclusive to India and Southeastern Asia (Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Peninsular Malaysia)
Apparently this one was hunted in South Africa
I very much doubt they would add Gaur to a South African map though
Especially when South Africa has a lot of dangerous game species that are native like the Cape Buffalo and Southern White Rhinoceros
Yeah there’s no way they could add exotics like Gaur, Himalayan Tahr, ibex, or even fallow deer to an African map without the community going nuts
Funny enough though Gaur are not the only Asiatic Dangerous Game Species that were hunted in South Africa, apparently back in the early 2010s there was a game ranch in South Africa that was offering Tigers, though the legality of that is questionable to me
Can you imagine going to Africa and instead of lions you see a tiger
I actually talked to a guy who had tigers on his ranch one time. He told me that a white tiger killed another tiger because of a territorial dispute
Given that there is a park in South Africa with free roaming South China Tigers, I suspect the handful of tigers that were hunted on South African Game Ranches were either South China or Bengal
I would imagine bengal because a good amount of Indian is similar to South Africa
Feral Yaks would be cool, assuming they made them something different than Wild Yaks, seeing as domestic yaks are far smaller irl
And more colour variation
Definitely, have white and some piebalds there as commons/uncommons
Ah ok
Ew pls just refill these to Sundar 🙏
Better yet, fix the ranges on Sundarpatan and switch them out with water buffaloes
Yes, you could just halve the range of water buffalo so you have water buffalo on one side of the river and gaur on the other
Yeah that’s true
Could these be added to Emerald Coast then? I feel like they’d fit in
No, the Banteng sort of fills the niche of Asiatic Forest Ox on Emerald Coast
Gotta hope for a surprise Sundarpatan update or an Indochinese (Cambodia/Laos) reserve
I’d hope they wouldn’t only have banteng on the coasts
I suppose they could decrease the number and range of Water B's and add Gaur in that way ..... It's a long shot but I wouldn't hate it ....
👆
The only other bovines that would fit Emerald are Water Buffalo and Scrub Bulls
Which I would be happy with
The Gaur could also share drink zones with Nilgai and Barasingha if you get what I mean
Yeah
i think that was a project to save the south tiger population from going extinct
sloth bears are actually more numerous on the subcontinent, Asiatic black bears are mainly found in the himalayan foothills and the north east
nope, they dont range that far north they are only found in south and southeast asia
