#Mountain Goat redistribution on Silver Ridge Peaks

So there's a serious problem with the Mountain Goat distribution on SRP currently. I was trying to hunt some of them today, and the locations where they can be found are really weird. You currently find them a lot in areas that are too low in elevation and too densely forested to be good Mountain Goat habitat, while many areas that are at or above the treeline (where Mountain Goats would realistically be found) have zero Mountain Goats whatsoever. It simply doesn't make sense the way it is currently. Also, without drink zones, they are nearly impossible to hunt in these areas, which makes going after them extremely frustrating and simply not worth it. I played for a couple hours and only managed to kill a few of them. This NEEDS to change, because the way it is now, hunting them just feels unnecessarily difficult for no good reason.

Below, I have made a special map of the areas where I think Mountain Goats should (realistically speaking) be found on SRP. The areas highlighted in red are the areas that should have Mountain Goat zones. Everywhere else is either too low or too forested, or both. I also recommend bringing back drink zones for them on this map, because there are many lakes and mountain ponds on SRP that would realistically be used as water sources for thirsty Mountain Goats, and all animals need to drink water, especially in the heat of summertime which is when SRP seems to be set. Maybe have them drink at the same time that Bison do currently since they are in completely different parts of the map and therefore they would not be overcrowding the same drink zones.

I hope this awesome species will get the overhaul that it desperately needs! This would make SRP a much more enjoyable map to hunt on in my opinion.

Agreed. SRP Should have more more life in the high mountains in general - the goats, yellow-bellied marmot, and white-tailed ptarmigan

Yeah, if marmots and ptarmigans were added they would really bring a lot more life to the high mountain areas of the map

#

I also wouldn't mind seeing Mountain Goats get backfilled to Layton Lake, since that map has some great high-elevation areas where they would likely be found irl. But that's a topic for a different discussion I suppose.

Definitely agreed. Layton's mountains are sad

I’d like it if the range was extended just a tad.
More realistic.

I'd prefer to keep their range as connected as possible, because having isolated groups of goats in a few small areas would still feel a bit weird. But I guess having them in those areas you outlined wouldn't be too bad if EW doesn't bring back their drink zones. If they bring back drink zones, their range would need to have water sources within it and there couldn't be any isolated parts of it without water sources in there.

#

that's why I went with the range map that is in the original post

I think 9:00 to 12:00 would be a good drink time for Mountain Goats if they get their drink zones back. Can anyone think of a better drink time for them?

When I first Iooked for mountain goats I was extremely confused when I didn't find them...in the mountains. And instead found them in the lower forests, makes no sense at all and I hardly ever find mountain goats because of it

why are there no goats it fits perfectly for them

yeah there's so many areas that are perfect goat habitat, but that have exactly zero mountain goats. Meanwhile you have Mountain Goats in areas like the southwest of the map, which is way too heavily forested to have any imo. They should just completely rework the range of the goats on the map.

their old home range when SRP was first released was (ironically) a lot more realistic.

They really need to fix the mountain goats in the game as they are a pain in the ass to hunt and the need to be removed from the forest areas.

If the Mountain Goats still had a drink time, or at the very least, actually had their feed zones in the open areas above the treeline like they realistically would, they would actually be a decently fun species to grind for the Medium March community challenge. EW really shot themselves in the foot by completely screwing up the Mountain Goat hunting.

Definitely something that needs to happen, honestly just adding them to Layton would make hunting them very enjoyable.

Yes! I finally got a Diamond Mountain Goat after hunting just 18 Gold billies (I didn’t shoot any nannies or billies below level 4). I’m proud of myself. I learned a valuable lesson while hunting mountain goats without a drinking zone. It wasn’t easy to get.

along with reworking their range on SRP, I think the Mountain Goats should have shaggier fur like they have in most pictures you see in real life:

Why are there no mountain goats here in the Two Fawns subregion? The area consists of many high grassy subalpine meadows near the treeline, it totally seems like somewhere that would have at least a few Mountain Goats hanging around and grazing.

yeah I figured that you might already know that, I was just pointing it out in case anyone at EW is reading these chats

since Mountain Goats seem to be getting a rework to their models, hopefully their range on SRP will eventually get reworked as well.

Mountain Goat redistribution on Silver Ridge Peaks

#

changed the title of this post to clarify that I'm specifically asking for a rework to their distribution on SRP, not their models or anything else like that.

#

this rework to their distribution is also part of my all-encompassing overhaul for Silver Ridge Peaks that I made a post about a while back:
