#Red Rock Reserve (Utah map) Possibility for 2 Great Ones and much needed Reworks

Set in the fall, when the Quakie trees are bright yellow, orange and red. Yet it snows in the upper regions of the map. It would be orange desert rock lower, and transition into more gray and tan rock with Quakie, Ponderosa and Pine trees. And open fields of Sagebrush with Juniper trees. This map has a lot of returning species, but with the possibility for 2 Great Ones, and some much needed Reworks for some species, and guns, such as the .270 and the 6.5 Creedmoore. The bottom part of the map is inspired by Zions National Park.

Another thought, maybe more high alpine creeks and rivers, displaying the full beauty Utah is famous for? The lack of rivers and small streams on SRP felt weird.

Also birbs!

I personally believe that while we need to take an extended break from both the USA and Europe, I think Canada could use one or 2 maps and Mexico could use at least one more map in the southern parts. Edit: I should mention that I am not against future reserves set in the USA and Europe, just that we need a break from them, I am for one interested in reserves set in Hawaii, Florida and the Balkans

Kinda tired of US maps, mostly playing to go places I'll never be able to after animals I'll never be able to hunt.

That said, I'd be pretty happy with this one actually. It has a lot of elements that would feel different from other maps and the way maps are being made now it would be miles away from SRP's feeling of just being a shooting range

stark hull
graceful snow
# stark hull Yeah Silver Ridge does feel like a shooting range a bit

The ground is super open lots of hills for better sight lines, large herds drinking out in the open, and you can drop plains bison with the .30-06 or .308 both of which we had semi-auto rifles for, now the .300 too.

It feels like SRP was "here you can money grind all you want, so shut up" more than "we put a lot of effort into a map that will feel good to replay even after a few months"

I think the Pheasant deserve more love, in-game they look alright, but IRL they can be beautiful, as well as per level the size of their tail is either bigger or smaller. For a level 1 the tail would be about the size of the body. A level 3 would have a big tail, and the Great Ones would get an even bigger tail.

As someone who lives in the Midwest, I think Utah is better described as being a part of the Mountain West (where the Rockies and their adjacent mountain ranges are found) rather than the Midwest. The Midwest is more commonly used to describe states like Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and the Dakotas, which are closer to the geographic center of the U.S. and all have pretty similar terrain (lots of flat areas and farmlands). Utah has very different terrain (mountains, deserts, canyons, etc.) from most of the Midwest.

unique cloud
# vale silo As someone who lives in the Midwest, I think Utah is better described as being a...

I live here now & used to live in Nebraska all the above including Wyoming is classified & referred to as the Midwest. Though you're not wrong we do have a nice assortment of terrain from plains, desert, mountains, forestry etc. its rather nice here. Nebraska is really nice towards the North Western parts. Iowa not much to speak of outside of fields. Dakotas are well known for their pheasants. Never hunted Wisconsin so I can't comment. Wyoming true sage plains with its own unique way of huntin.

unique cloud
#

Though the 1 thing I do miss from Nebraska was over the counter deer tags. Here you have to draw for a deer tag, but we can get Elk Tags easy enough.

vale silo
unique cloud
#

Eh tomato tomoto still midwest 🤣

vale silo
#

I don't doubt that there might be organizations that classify Utah or Wyoming as part of the Midwest, but on an federal level those are classified differently

#

That's what I was referring to, although I agree that it generally has a very loose definition

unique cloud
vale silo
#

yeah it's sort of an arbitrary line that the census bureau designates, but ya gotta draw the line somewhere I guess

unique cloud
vale silo
#

This map shows what states are part of the Mountain States, which include Wyoming and Utah. Arizona and New Mexico are shown as striped because different sources have different classifications of what region they belong to.

#

also all of these maps are from Wikipedia, there might be other maps online that show these regions differently. Geography of the U.S. is very complicated and there's no perfect way to group different states together. Look at 10 different regional maps of the U.S. and you might get 10 different definitions of each region.

unique cloud
#

time zone wise yea Mountain & across those borders Central but even by the mapping here & the previous they say northern not midwest or western. Its pretty interesting when you pick up the local perspectives no matter where you go.

vale silo
#

time zones are a whole other can of worms, they are really arbitrary, and they don't really map the country into different regions in any way that really makes much sense.

unique cloud
#

Think thats bad I believe it was Arizona if I recall doesn't have daylight savings they keep the same time year round.

vale silo
#

personally I just follow the regional definitions that the Census Bureau comes up with just because it's about as much of an official source as we have

languid lake
unique cloud
#

I get where your coming from. We always just refer ourselves locally over federal 90% of the time

vale silo
unique cloud

like I said when I lived NE we always called ourselves Mid Midwesterners while in these parts we call ourselves Midwesterners. Though this varies from place to place when you talk to the locals no matter where you end up state wise.

So from what I gather the story goes when the mormans were pioneers in America they were plagued with Morman Crickets when they were saved by seagulls eating the crickets hence why they are worshiped here & essentially settled here. Ever since Utah has been the Morman state and considered Holy. And to answer your ? the US as a nation isn't ran by Religion. But every state governs themself independently just as they have since the colonies. The only difference is the country is united under a single banner with federal law, then State, City, etc. etc. Theres a reason Utah is known as the Morman state & the church has a strong influence in its gov't structure. However the state isn't oppressed by any means but rather very open to multiple cultures including witches if you can believe it. As for Religion in its entirety I wont debate or discuss it further as it is irrelevant.

This includes Sage Grouse & Prairie chickens that were on the verge of being endangered and is now heavily regulated. This is due to of course man & the sage sea is also taking an ecological dive as well.

Exactly but not only are the birds reintroduced they are also bought by homesteaders (like myself) as well as Game & Park gated youth communities and Pvt Clubs alike. Not to mention dog training essentials like feathered decoys, wings, blood, etc.

#

Wyoming is the largest with the most species given their geography but other states also have these programs as well.

subtle osprey

But no bird wise upland is the way to go aside from cranes but Wyoming has us beat there with nearly every mid western & western bird species with their program. But I will admit it is hilarious to see a * * * * ton of california quail living in the residential areas across all the cities.

Grouse & ptarmigan wise were rather close to what wyoming has though if I recall wyoming has slightly more grouse & quail then we do in the wilds.

but Wyomings famous birds is the Sage Grouse & Prairie Chickens.

But yea Partridge, Ptarmigan, Quail, Grouse, Doves, Turkey, & Pheasants is pretty much your upland bird line up. Waterfowl wise Mallards, Canadian Geese, Tundra Swan, Snipes, & Cranes generally 🫤

Furbearer Species: Though I believe some are strictly regulated in some areas.
Bobcat, Beaver, Badger, Coyote, Gray fox, Kit fox, Marten, Mink, Muskrat, Raccoon, Red fox, Ringtail, Spotted skunk, Striped skunk, Weasel

It becomes highly relevant if you like hunting waterfowl though, since its smack dab in the highest traffic portion of the central flyway and hosts the majority of the best eating waterfowl like white-fronted geese, canvasback ducks, and sandhill cranes.

Plus it also has really good whitetail and mule deer country and has a lot of great fishing opportunities. There's also a lot of opportunity for furbearers like raccoon, skunk, coyote, and fox. It's really mainly a sportman's state.

I’d say Colorado is the Big Game Capitol of the Lower 48. They have the best hunting for Elk, Bighorn, Black Bear, and Mountain Goats outside of Alaska. Their Mountain Lion hunting is great as well.

I’m probably biased but I’ll always say Idaho is the Upland Game Capitol. I’ve never seen a place with more Chukar, California Quail, Spruce Grouse, or Ruffed Grouse.

The Dakotas have us down when it comes to Pheasants, Europe has us beat with Hungarian Partridge, Canada has us beat with Sharp-Tailed Grouse, and Alaska is the undisputed Blue Grouse Capitol.

Very true, I'll happily take the title of Big Game Capitol of the Lower 48 for my home state lol. I still think we've got a pretty solid claim to being at least a heavyweight for uplands given that we have at least 14 huntable upland birds in the state, including 3 species of quail as well as prairie chickens, chukar, sage grouse, dusky grouse (formerly blues), and mtn sharptails.

# stoic minnow Basically every western state has Idaho beat when it comes to Mulies, with the e...

To my understanding it's because of the dense mountain forest coming back after the collapse of the Western timber industry in the 80s and 90s. The saplings that sprouted up in those first five years are reach mature size now and the underbrush is getting thick enough that it's turning back into whitetail country. I guess the thicker vegetation with more trees makes it more difficult for mulies to stott but gives whitetail obstacles to bound around.

Edit: Plus also a couple of harsh winters with tons of snow. Western wyoming lost 80% of its herds and I think 92% of its overall mule deer in the 23/24 winter. The east got hit pretty hard too, lots of pronghorn snowed out.

unique cloud
unique cloud
languid lake
unique cloud
#

But overall I think Utah, Wyoming, Dakotas, Idaho deserve a reserve & CO & NM need a fresh perspective bc SRP was great Game wise but map design was very unpleasing.

unique cloud
languid lake
#

For context the ranchers we have out here in CO are responsible for a lot of environmental damage and wildlife death due to their apparent inability to properly care for their cattle.

Illegal winter ranging of cattle and sheep that were poorly cared for and had numerous sick individuals has now transmitted brucellosis, blue tongue, and foot & mouth into the elk, mule deer, bighorn, and mtn goat on the Western slope as well as worsened CWD in many units by reducing the amount of land deer can access for food and thus forcing them closer together.

unique cloud
#

As far as this reserve concept given the focus Swans should be replaced with Snipes or another Upland we dont have yet. Realistically I'd give Wyoming the Sage Grouse. Though kit fox or another furbearer would be good as a replacement. Cranes are everywhere here as well so no issue there.

It was just a generalized area, but the map I drew doesn't have a lot of water. I was thinking the upper region has Spruce, Quakies, and Ponderosa, kinda like the Uintas or like the Nebo area. The middle is like beginning red rock, kinda like Joes Valley area or desert, with lots of sagebrush but not quite Zions. there's also some parts of eastern Wyoming, Montana, and Colorado that are very similar in terms of landscape and culture to the Dakotas, Nebraska and Kansas, so by that same logic, Montana, Wyoming and Colorado are part of the Midwest. And since a lot of the people in Canada have similar accents to people in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the U.P. of Michigan, we might as well refer to Canada as part of the Midwest too. And part of Upstate New York borders Lake Erie, just like Ohio does, so that part of Upstate New York must be part of the Midwest too. As you can see, if we keep broadening the definition of the Midwest based on similar characteristics like this, eventually all of North America will become part of the Midwest. We might as well rename the whole continent to The Great Midwestern Empire at that point.

#

My point is, the Midwestern states are just a loose collection of states that are classified as being in the same general region of the United States. They may have a lot of the same characteristics (farmlands, large amount of flat land, etc.) but obviously there are exceptions to that within the region. Since there is no simple way to arbitrate the borders, it's easiest to just use the definition that the Census Bureau uses, because its definition is the most commonly accepted one. I personally think that the best approach to geography is the K.I.S.S. method: Keep It Simple, Stupid. (not trying to insult anyone here, it's just what the acronym stands for)
