#AFRICA BIG FIVE (Africa 2.0 + Class 10 Weapons) 🇿🇼🇿🇦
1 messages · Page 16 of 1
my guess is they use a common beta build for testing to prevent too much code conflict with updates so whatever else theyre working on ended up being shown in the teaser
I have an odd story about a Romanian woman but that's not for here.
Anyway yeah, and that would be another wolf area too
Transylvania would be kinda fun too, some good lore to play into as we're scaling cliffs to hunt chamois
Africa be crazy
goddamn
Could be
I want a thompson self defense gun in cotw now
Now that everyone is grinding for grey wolves…..
True true, the event is out in less than 1 hour as well
Which Event?
M203 Launcher when EW ?
Halloween event launching in i think 30 min? I’m playing rn so i can see beforehand
Looks like a soldier that got left behind in a mission
Alr when it launches can you show the rewards ?
Sure but it does usually show up on this discord
Sadly no matte black
Another community challenge i won't take part in i guess
DAY 649 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.O
Yeah last one wasn’t that great either tbh imo
Not worth messing with this time
I can’t believe making your barrel gun metal black is gatekept behind the Easter holiday. I wasn’t playing COTW this April so I forgot to go on and get it
Its just nonsense at this point
With them doing so many time limited skins with community events I hope they start releasing DLC bundles for them later.
Having skin holiday bundles or bundles of the community event skins would be nice. Can still get them for free during the time they’re available but if you miss it u can still buy them
Still a bit annoyed I didn’t get the bear community event skins, I thought I killed bears that counted but with how it doesn’t tell you your continuation till the events over, I didn’t know they didn’t
Add the greater kudu and african wild dogs
And give the jackal some love they’re so bad rn
Somebody send me a list of new species they would want the most for an Africa 2.0 map!
Other than red hartebeest
I know. I see you typing Queen 😭
Any hartebeest subspecies depending on the location, Plains Zebra, Black Wildebeest, Eland, African Leopard, African Cheetah, Marabou Stork, Common Ostrich, Common Impala, Kobs, Lechwe etc etc i just want everything
Grevy’s zebra would be pretty cool too
Anyway have any Art pictures of a Cheetah for Africa 2.0?!
I am about to start yapping. What I can see in COTW out of that list is…
- Common Impala
- Eland
- Black Wildebeest
- Red Hartebeest ofc
- African Leopard
- Plains Zebra
- Nile Lechwe
My additions!
- Striped/Spotted Hyena
- Angolan Giraffe
- Southwest African Lion (the lion reworked)
- Side Striped Jackal (Reworked)
- Bat-Eared Fox
- Aardwolf
- Nile Crocodile (slightly smaller than saltwater crocodiles, and are known to be highly aggressive and are social, meaning they can be found in sizable groups with other crocodiles)
- Greater Kudu (either replacing the lesser kudu or existing alongside it. The region of the map the lesser kudu is found in is actually the natural habitat of a greater kudu, while lesser prefer more arid areas.)
What I don’t think would work
- Cheetahs (are not commonly sought after for trophy hunting, as well as the fact are not aggressive; so people don’t see a reason to hunt them for either reason.)
- Elephants or Rhinoceros (While it would be cool, they would have to introduce entirely new mount platforms to fit the size of either. But if it can work that would be freaking sweet)
- Any storks, cranes, or ostriches. (That would require a new skeleton to work with and those aren’t commonly sought after during hunting either iirc)
i just listed things i’d like to see in an africa map
Though imagine sniping an ostrich from 400m while it runs at you
Yeee I’m just bouncing off your idea :D
The reason I asked is because I want to design concept art for them!
ooh cool
DAY 650 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0
Eland and greater kudu
Depends on the region but the animals I want most are probably one of the 3 impala subspecies (Southern, Eastern or black-faced) one of the Greater Kudu subspecies (Eastern Cape, Southern, east african) and one of the bushbuck subspecies (harnasbosbok, Nile, Arusi, chobe or Southern African). Also leopard ofcourse.
My ideal list has like 33 animals though so it's a bit much to ask I think
Vurhonga gets a brother with that many 😭
Greater Kudu, Nyala, Bushbuck, Livingstone Eland, Lord Derby Eland, Bongo, Sitatunga, mountain Nyala, Sable, Roan, Red Lechwe, Black Lechwe, Grants Gazelle, Gerenuk, Giraffe, Zebra, Bushpig, Baboon, vervet monkey, Colubus monkey, The Tiny Ten, and The Dangerous seven
Can’t forget about western kudu
I’ve tried irl before
Ostrich suck to hunt
I definetly think making the effort for rhinos and elephants is worth it, ostriches as well. Rhinos and ostriches especially are some of my favorite animals and since they have aknowledged that we want a new trophy lodge and in general elephants and typical african wildlife is very sought after to hunt by many playing cotw, the effort imo would be very much worth it
Remastering trophy lodges has to happen with or without class 10 animals.
And yes the effort would be totally worth it. It's almost pathetic that no good hunting games (Classic, WOTH, Cotw,) have any of the abovementioned. Hunting Africa's big five is supposed to be the pinnacle of outdoorsmanship next to fishing for Marlin in the angling world.
Considering the upcoming game Ultimate Hunting is adding monkeys (baboons) and elephants and zebras, and not to mention they’re a small developing team of like two people i believe, EW has got their work cut out for them or how you say it. Ik Cotw has a older engine but the animations and graphics are better than ultimate hunting, so no doubt what you are saying is possible
Ultimate hunting (If the gameplay is more polished than in the trailer), will be good but updates will come soooooo slow.
Very true, and i think they said in one of their later videos that the gameplay in the trailers is not the final product
Fair! I hope EW can make it work :)
They said in their FAQ they can do it and they plan to make a diverse set of maps on africa, all they have to do for the especially animals is remaster how lodges work first. From what I got in the message it's not really an if anymore, it's a when.
Coke's hartebeest
Red Hartebeest is done.
Black Wildebeest is next.
@lean viper (when you wake up)
Gonna add my two cents
Rock hyrax
Enough said.
DAY 651 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0
https://discord.com/channels/393040947006406657/1336821988718809119
there’s some really interesting fur colors (for heartebeest and other animals) in here if you want
i love!! (may i make a suggestion for a very rare mutation for it?)
i like the idea of wild dogs too
african wild dog looks cute
i’d rather have these instead of hyenas
If it’s for the black wildebeest yes
i don’t have any for the wilde but for the harte i do
Okay… I can see if I can make a second sheet but once I finish something it’s a bit hard to resume
if it makes things harder dw about it
Noooo I want idea gimme
i’ll DM u them if its alr?
Yeeee :D
Went ahead and sent ya a wave so the message doesn’t sit hidden in my requests
By request of @lean viper ! Two more really cool rare coats.
The Ticked looks more like a brindle, closest brush I could find that represented ticked markings
that looks awesome! hopefully 1 day EW listens and adds red hartebeests along with the concept art u made because this would be awesome ingame
Awesome
Ticked would easily be my favorite fur color in the game hands down
Ticked looks amazing!
Understandable about cheetahs but Since we got Tigers and Snow Leopards I have a Feeling the Chance of them being on Africa 2.0 is Even Higher then before. One could also add on about Woodland Caribou, Snow Geese, and Wood Duck on Askiy Ridge since they aren’t that Sought after In Alberta and Caribou are Illegal to hunt there IRL
Those look so good
True. And the game isn’t really based on actual real life stuff for the most part
#1431699804672622673
I went on a rant, i apologize
Im pretty heavy on wild dogs in here, so heres a real life leucistic wild dog pup (yeah its cute)
THE BABYYY
imagine if they made the level 1s in game babies
That would be dark 😭
Black Wildebeest
Speaking of wild dogs, I drove from Pretoria to Ellisras in Limpopo last weekend and there's a pretty big area that's a Wild dog conservation zone on the way there between the town of Vaalwater and Ellisras
Wild dogs are really quite rare this side
Wild dogs are rare, just like ethiopian wolves with arent really even wolves
I'd like to see some more really rare animals like the snow leopard in sundarpatan, there's no better feeling (excluding g1s or sr's of course) then when youre able to have a successful snow leopard hunt (since theyre so rare)
Consistency
The African equivalent would be regular leopard(because they’re so hard to hunt), hunters hartebeest, Okopi, Mountain Nyala, bongo, lord derby eland, forest sitatunga, and Black Rhino
Leopards are nowhere near on the level of snow leopards, and I’m talking about also hard to hunt animals, not a rhino nor a nyala
The area with highest recorded density for wild dogs is 2.5 per square mile
(Which Im well aware doesnt compete with snow leopards as in their move dense area there are known to be only around .08 per square mile)
I beg to differ for leopard, I’ve heard this one story about a woman who baited leopard for 50 nights straight before seeing one, they are by far the most illusive cat in Africa.
And Black rhino where considered the most dangerous amongst the big five during the golden age of safari hunting(since then they became very rare and now that title goes to the Cape buffalo)
I also said mountain Nyala, very different from the Southern African Nyala
Leopards definitely wouldnt be a bad hunt, although I dont think non-predator would fit that spot well
Why do people want African Wild Dogs so much?
Its one of the species I don't think we really need considering that every country in Sub-Saharan Africa that allows hunting does have a good variety of huntable species with well over half of those countries having at least 2 or 3 members of the Big 5 as huntable species
I would argue that a non-predatory animal would work as a rare species in a manner similar to Snow Leopard, especially the two African Rhino species
I think it’s because of that beautiful coat
But I do agree, I would much rather see the actual huntable species be added first
Took these photos
Not nearly as elusive, I like tree's idea of leopard way better. There's also a significant difference in population and population distribution between the two.
Funny thing about the Mountain Nyala is that they are more closely related to the Greater Kudu and Bongo then they are to the Nyala of Southern Africa'
Yeah, black rhinoceros would be my favorite of the big five
They’re huge and very aggressive, too bad they’re nearly wiped out from poaching
They are doing well in South Africa and Namibia to the point where a couple dozen permits are given out across both countries and in Namibia they focus on bulls past breeding age that are considered a threat to younger rhinos
Yeah old males that are a threat to youngsters is valid
I wonder how expensive that trophy hunt is
When africa 2.0 comes out, they should definitely bring back the Vurhonga warden for cameo and have him say "It's been a while grandchild" cause yk, it's rly been years!!
A permit for one black rhino in Namibia went for 350,000 USD at a auction hosted by Dallas Safari Club in 2014 with the funds going towards anti-poaching efforts in Namibia
2 things I would say, a really good class 1 animal is helmeted guinea fowl and please specify greater kudu before they add lesser kudu in again 😭 . Sable antelope is also a good shout.
DAY 652 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0
It could be cool just to see them like very rarely, though you wouldn’t be able to shoot them, it would say invalid target like on the dog. I realize it can take a little time to fix something like that for every animal so won’t happen i believe unless they somehow run out of ideas
Yeah that wasn’t a literal suggestion
Habe you seen muntjac baby's? 😭
Ultimate Hunting dropped a new developer log, the rifle looks awesome yes but look at the vehicle n the right side of the pic.
Is it just me or is that a camper on that truck? Mobile Hunting camp?!
Yeah i understood that but mine was
What is that white area?
Wow wasn't expecting this many reactions
DAY 653 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0
Ik you weren’t asking me but i think it’s just ungenerated ground
I was asking you included
Ok i thought you were only asking him since you replied to him
It was more to the picture then him specific, I figured it was water they hadn't made xet
Alright just wanted to be clear, could be water too, it usually looks like that in games when textures aren’t generated
Its just a test path, they were testing sound design apparently but I noticed the vehicle
DAY 654 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0
I WANT TO HUNT ZEBRAS!!!
Just 3 likes left 😮
I can imagine lying on the bank, rifle in hand waiting for a clean shot and thinking
"MOVE OREO DONKEY I WANT THE IMPALA"
TWO LEFT🗣️
Give me an African animal to draw that isn’t a leopard 🙂↕️ (I’ll take a handful!)
lichensteins hartebeest
Lord derby eland, Mountain Nyala,(East African) Bongo, Forest Sitatunga, Dibatag, I can do this all day
I’ll only be doing one per person 🙂↕️ kinda the idea I’ll be drawing people’s favorites (leopard isn’t allowed since I have a full piece idea already for them)
Are recently extinct (Late Pleistocene to 20th Century) animals ok or is it only currently living species, I have a suggestion for both
feel free to drop both and ill just choose which one i wanna do if either appeal to me
For the Late Pleistocene/Early Holocene choice I am going with the Syncerus antiquus and as for an animal that is still with us I will go with the Korrigum of Western Africa
Oooohhh
Straight tucked elephant or Lord Derby Eland
The most recent of the African Straight-tusked Elephants was Palaeoloxodon jolensis which might have made it to the Late Pleistocene but went extinct before the end of the last Ice Age
did this guy go extinct bcuz they where doing the opposite of mitosis to get bigger and bigger horns by absorbing their friends? 😭
i did hartebeast ( @lean viper and Lord Derby Eland @untold maple ) for now, might do a couple more when i feel like it. probably stuff thats incorrect but these are supposed to be quick so ignore it 🙂↕️
They might have been restricted to what is now the Sahara Desert at the end of the last Ice Age and went extinct only a couple thousand years ago through a combination of over-hunting and the once green savannahs and wetlands becoming the Sahara Desert. The time the Sahara was green is known as the African Humid Period
DAY 655 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0
When ( not if ) we reach 2000 upvotes I am interested in posting 20 pieces of art and if you have any requests for species I'll try and find one for that 👍
2 away from 2k
Love the pfp
Got a WhatsApp sticker of that dapper dude lol
Who is it?
No idea. If I remember correctly tho the dudes a Rwandan solider with a AK pattern rifle, rhidesian brushsroke pants and a sick neon jacket and I saw the photo ages ago and though it was the funniest thing
Ah
Bongo and mountain nyala
Lord derby eland, Ssese island sitatunga, forest elephant, dwarf buffalo, striped hyena, Dibatag, Hirola, East African Bongo, lesser kudu, Gerenuk, lesser kudu, and Mountain Nyala
(Particularly Lord derby Eland but any of those are good)
God damn
I'll see what I can find in preparation
I have found a good one for Bongo but not so much for Mountain Nyala although I do have one that possibly isn't the best quality
Found one for Lord Derby Eland, none for Sitatunga surprisingly, one for Forest Elephant, none for Dwarf Buffalo, one for Striped Hyena, none for Dibatag, none for Hirola, none for East African Bongo, one for Lesser Kudu ( questionable quality ), none for Generuk, and like I said to Janny one for Mountain Nyala but not the best quality. So for all of those that I wasn't able to get they either did not exist at all or were too poor quality or not even really what I would want to use. Sorry
I am not entirely sure whether the one's I did gather are even worth sharing. Don't particularly understand why it proved to be so difficult but they were specific so that could be a factor.
Well otherwise you could do some tiny ten species like oribi or grybok
Maybe we'll see and we're only one away!
DAY 656 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0
Tbh the only reason I still support this idea is so people shut up about African maps, so that my beloved New Guinea has a better chance at becoming a map.
Spite is a legitimate motivator
WE'VE DONE IT!!!! 🥳 🥳 🥳
Give me a moment to sort together a post
!!!!!!!!!!!HERE IT IS LADIES AND GENTLEMEN DAY 656 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND THE DAY WE HAVE REACHED 2000 UPVOTES!!!!!!!!!! 🥳 🥳 🌍 🌍 🔥 🔥 🇿🇼 🇿🇼 🇿🇲 🇿🇲 🇿🇦 🇿🇦
Wow
❤️❤️❤️🎉🎉🎉🥳🥳🥳
2000 likes🎉🎊🥳🎉🎊🍾🍾🥳
@mighty rampart WE DID IT!!!
its just crazy that one post gains 2000 likes before a second one can reach 1000
I would like to add folks that celebrating upvotes technically counts as bumping and is against the new feedback engagement rules BUT because 2,000 upvotes is such a momentous milestone on any thread that I will let it stand
recent activity in forums doesn’t bump it up to the top of feedback anymore, why would it be against the forum rules then?
It's because it amounts to unrelated messages for CMs and devs to sort through when looking through discussions and it doesnt lend to the thread's credence as feedback
mm true
Super happy to see 2k finally, but I want to point this out.
Pair this reticle with a 1-5x scope and it'd be absolutely perfect for the .375 and .470.
A real dangerous game style scope for close and fast shots
DAY 657 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 1 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
Have we thought of impala variants?
Impala thread my beloved lost to the new sorting style
So many good threads barred because of the new sorting system😔
IDK why it changed, naturally the more well thought out and liked threads would gravitate to the top and allow more people to see them while the kinda eh ones just went to the bottom and it just kinda 'filtered' itself in a way
😔 nothin left, but to post there links like some kind of shady advertiser...
I'm the local Impala dealer
Dealing on the bad side of the bush under a decrepit baobab tree or something
DAY 658 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 2 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
DAY 659 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 3 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
That impala with a black back and face markings is incredible
Saddle back
It’s my personal favorite(second favorite is the completely tan one)
Second for me has to be white flanked
2026 before 2026? 👀
imagining this but w cape in africa 2.0
One day, we just need to have faith
rlly hoping we can get some massive herds in africa like u see around watering holes....(...without having to blow out a bunch of zones, which is what resulted in that lol past tiger grinding)
DAY 660 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 4 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
Something small that I hope we get with an Africa 2.0 is a complete rework to the Scrub hare.
I hope EW fixes their look and behavior because flushing scrub hare from cover and taking them with a shotgun would be really fun in game as something to do when you're not big game hunting on an Africa map.
KEEP THE FAITH, THEY WILL HEAR US. 🔥
Both makes me want to play rdr2 again and let the gator have a snack
Zimbabwe 🇿🇼
Note: It is not the official logo.
@patent agate here’s something you might like, Craig Buddington got himself an Eland with a 475 Turnbull
Nice! I love seeing these big rifles
Spring creek needs a remaster, but you could totally fit an elephant mount into Saseka safari if you shuffle things around a little
(A total remaster of Saseka is still very needed though)
This mount looks like the elephant was surprised by a bee that flew up to his eye and caused him to freak out and back up while mildly cussing the bug out
"Hi Kevin, I got Legos."
DAY 661 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 5 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
DAY 662 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 6 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
I’d really like this type of terrain, but with Africa 2 being partially a African winter map.
DAY 663 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 7 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
DAY 664 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 8 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
They better give you a shrine if they release this map
I'm pretty sure treegarden1 has done it for longer
So I feel like perhaps he deserves it more
MadMike(Wellington) made the thread, he should get the shrine
. . . Would he. . .voice the Warden of Africa 2.0? Do you think?
@mighty rampart
If you were offered to play as the warden, would you?
Do it man! DOO ITTT
True
Without him I don't think we would even be here. I probably wouldn't have stayed on the server when I stopped playing COTW if it wasn't for this post.
Also one of my first communities/servers when I joined and I didn't have much going for me in regards to social interactions and friends. So @mighty rampart if you're seeing this, thank you.
Well I feel called out, I only knew of discord because of work before this channel and I've spent most of my time in the Africa 2.0 thread even when I wasn't actively playing cotw
Haha 100%
DAY 665 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 9 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
These birds, the Grey Crowned Cranes, they sound a lot like geese, specifically a Canada goose
Huh didn't know that
They are really cool birds before I moved my local Cabela’s had a taxidermy one on display next to a sitatunga
Would be really cool to hunt one
It’s weird, Africa has so many birds and yet you can’t only hunt very few of them.
To be fair, theres a lot of particularly interesting mammals to grab your attention too
"see, there's thing thing called a duiker"
insulting remark toward know it all feline
"how dare you! I know my prey animals very well good sir!"
he's not lying David, im right here!
NAHHHH WAY
You mean it?
They really could not do leopard back in the day. there’s so many bad leopard mounts🤣
Yeah, I'd say cats in general didn't have the best taxidermy
Genuinely looks like me when I get a fright 😂
DAY 666 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 10 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
Being entirely realistic, is there any reason not to add giraffes to the game if we are adding elephants?
No good reason to not add them
Only thing I can think of is how many new skeletons they are willing to make. They would have to make a lot of custom ones because of how many unique species there are
But aren't there a lot of transferable skeletons already available that would only need tweaking?
Lesser Kudu to impala, blue wildebeest to black wildebeest kinda scenarios? Aside from that, unique animals would be a huge selling point for a lot of people. I honestly think it'd sell more if they put in several unique ones
Old taxidermy is a fever dream.
Commenting so this thread does not disappear on me and I forget its existence
DAY 667 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 11 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
Id hope they use white tail or black tail skeletons but exactly the point
I think there's a lot of reusable skeletons in game already, and besides, the subspecies of giraffe for example are relatively unique, having different patterns and such so if EW was specific with African animals sub-species, they could the same skeletons for various different animals in game
Question
Where do you think do you think Africa 2.0 will be set in?
Tanzania, Zimbabwe, or Cameroon? I feel like those are the most likely countries but what do you think?
I hate to say it but Tanzania
I only hate to say it because I'm biased towards mopane bush which is very common to hunt in when in Zim, specifically Western and Southern Zim
The reason I think it might be based off of Tanzania is because Tanzania is like the default, go-to location for any form of wildlife related activity for people not from the continent. Also I think the fact that EW has decided to stick to their guns calling Vurhonga a Southern African map, I get the feeling they might go for east African next.
I still choose to hope it's maybe in Zim, Ovambo land or a map doing justice to South Africa
DAY 668 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 12 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
I wanted to announce that from the 19th to the 21st or 22nd of this month or Wednesday to Friday or Saturday next week I will not be online as I will be travelling back home to Germany and the trip will be about 3 or 4 days so I wanted to let you all know and wanted to get your thoughts on whether I should do a post for tuesday and the other days before the trip or do it after. I have also thought that perhaps someone else would be interested maybe someone new? Maybe @untold maple you could take the reins for a few days? I know a week is a fair while but thought it was just worth getting out.
DAY 669 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 13 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
7x57mm feels like its missing from the game, it'll feel even stranger if we don't get one at least close to Africa 2.0 launch
I would love to see a Boer pack!
Boop!
Oops I left the stripe guidelines on
We need those spotted zebras
Pseudomela zebras are so cool looking
One step closer with the new lodge patch announced! Still need more lodges / lodge updates depending on what’s all in there but it’s a step!
@nocturne pagoda can you try to do this for the Lechwe, Waterbuck, Puku and Impala
I could!
Can we selectively breed these things? Much more interesting than regular zebras
I would love to see what you could do for black lechwe
That hide would make a killer vest
A lot of African animal hides would make for good vests
Blue Wildebeest, kudu, Nyala, bushbuck, lechwe, black lechwe, blesbok, springbok, Nile croc. So many potential options
Leopard, zebra, and giraffe would be very flashy
I feel the same way about zebra and leopard vests as I do about giraffe hide boots
Exactly, it’s next level flashy, there’s no way you could walk around in any form of public and people not chuckle at the sight of you
A leopard skin hatband with a porcupine quill as the feather would be cool though
Africa themed pi*p look huh?
You do you treeboy
Just the hatband, I wouldn’t dare go any further than that
WHY IS THIS 5400$?!
If i did something showy, croc hide gun belt and holster
Because they know that people don’t know that zebra hides don’t cost that much
Also while we were talking, I just got a diamond Desert bighorn!
I should’ve saved the picture but I’ve seen that before and it would be really fun to make that
Have I ever shown you my wildebeest batwing chaps before?
See, I would love to do this with a full wildebeest hide.
And yea, I've seen the chaps before. Think we talked about this same thing 2 or 3 times now
That’s because leather craft is a fun topic
Also when are they finally going to add leather craft like they said they would?!
Id gladly buy that dlc if they introduced 3rd person and some character customization
Also I've been reminded that the lion in rdr2 was just for one trinket you couldn't see and im mildly annoyed again
Imagine a really nice vest or coat with the mane as the collar, that would have been awesome
Like kraven the hunter?
(Movie was pretty bad, they had African Cape buffalo in Siberia and didn’t understand the character of kraven the hunter)
Not exactly, more like the legendary bear coat of RDR2 story. Claws as buttons, the mane just being a really fluffy collar and a nice hat with teeth on the hat hatband kinda look
Also, went down a bit of a rabbit hole. Has anyone ever tanned a Goliath tiger fish's skin?
You saw the video about alligator gar leather didn’t you?
But to my knowledge Goliath tiger fish are somewhat rare so I doubt there’s any(maybe in a Radom village deep in the bush but I don’t know)
My wife asked me what I was watching and I showed her, she rolled her eyes and grabbed her phone then pulled this up.
"I swear, if you could get away with it this is what you'd wear every day"
I saw the gator gar video and one for white sturgeon, id love to see a something similar for Africa.
Nile perch maybe?
Found something. You were right, Nile perch
Definitely needs sleeves but otherwise it would make for a really good winter jacket
(I miss the cold, I moved down to Arizona in July, I really miss up north right now😭)
Yup, you made a bad move! No more cool days and snowy hunts
I think an African map with a Cape Buffalo, Lion, and Warthog because EW wants to reuse the existing species. I hope them to be reworked. I love Cameroon, but I don't think this will be Africa 2.0. Probably Africa 4.0 for Cameroon because of the Forest Elephant.
Ranked how? There's no designation of rank just a color coded map
It seems that South Africa is ranked first.
Imagining, COTW has those 10 maps. 🤩
Is it an impossible dream???
DAY 670 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0
DAY 670 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 14 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
I've only just noticed the post above me so apologies NJTURNPIKE I hadn't seen it prior to making the post.
There’s no way Ethiopia is a more popular hunting destination than Botswana, I just don’t believe that
You have the reason
I mean most of Eastern Africa either doesn't allow hunting or just doesn't have the animal population to make it work, I think Southern Africa really is the premier destination for African Hunting
Actually, the former Sudan (today Sudan and South Sudan) is known as the hunters’ lost paradise.
I think I can explain why
South Sudan outright banned hunting shortly after gaining independence (from what I remember hearing about)
Sudan is currently experiencing a brutal war, and wars in Africa are not only bad for people but also wildlife
So many African paradises lost 😞
Kenya, Somalia, Angola(until recently) most of central Africa, most of North Africa…okay looking at it now I wouldn’t really say paradise(especially north and central Africa).
But man, Kenya used to be so cool…and then the 70’s happened
Because people are obsessed with elephants, I think this becomes an obstacle when creating African maps, I think. With the many species that exist in Africa, EW could easily make several African maps.
Probably grabbing at straws here but a lot of people have this false belief that Africa 2.0 will be the “last map” and means the next map is indeed Africa 2.0, they just want to stop panic beforehand.( definitely hallucinating at this stage, been waiting for this map since 2022, I remember when this thread had like 200 likes)
Or traumatized by the criticism of Vurhonga Savanna. Was this map poorly received by players? I don’t think this map is underrated.
The players had high expectations for the second African map and were putting a lot of pressure on EW.
Vurhonga didn't go over well and followed up with several updates that made it worse, particularly ducks and the springbok truracs being even smaller and less impressive than the old horns, also had a lot of animals that didn't make sense and didn't look like the area it was set in.
Given how amazing the last few maps have been they have a lot less to worry about
There is a story by German big game hunter Knut bellinger where he recalls Beeing approached by rebels in South Sudan (then Sudan) they drank tea and the rebels discussed what they were doing. The hunter explained he was there to shoot the bongo. The rebels had no problem with that but did also note that If he (Knut) killed one elephant they would shoot the whole hunting company on the spot.
The prestigious Spanish professional hunter Tony Sánchez-Ariño spent 25 years in (the White Nile) South Sudan. Tony was the first professional hunter to establish himself in Southern Sudan, where he continued hunting and conducting safaris until 1984—twenty-five years of his career in that hunting paradise where all the African big-game species could be found—until the civil war between the Muslim North and the Christian South forced him to leave the country.
He kept a record of the big-game animals he took, with staggering numbers: 1,317 elephants, 340 lions, 167 leopards, 127 black rhinos, and 2,093 African buffalo in his career as a professional hunter.
How did he do money with that?
He asked his uncle Tomás, who was a doctor in Ademuz, for help. His uncle lent him the money to begin his career as an elephant hunter (at 22 years of age, he hunted his first elephant.), on the condition that he would pay it back. Tony also sold part of his stamp collection to get the money he needed. He traveled to Guinea, which at the time was the more affordable and where hunting was still unregulated. His first stage as a hunter took place in West Africa, using Spanish Guinea as his base. From there, he hunted in Cameroon, Guinea-Conakry, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, Gabon, and Nigeria, later founding his own safari company, Nile Safaris, in South Sudan.
Spanish Guinea (now Equatorial Guinea)
From what I just read all hunting in South Sudan was banned in 2018 (I needed to make sure the information I had was correct)
South Sudan is famous for the large migration of Tiang antelope and White-eared Kob.
I believe that problem is because of how long they’ve taken to make a second African map.
There wouldn’t be a massive expectation for elephants in Africa 2.0 if they made it a while ago. but instead they put a bunch of recourses into New England mountains and revontoli coast(I’m not saying their bad maps, what I’m saying is they didn’t really add anything interesting)
From what I can see, EW has a policy of recycling assets — retexturing, remodeling, and reusing vegetation and animals models — and that’s why they have created so many maps in North America and Europe. I’m not sure if this is due to limited time, production costs, or some other reason. Salzwiesen Park is a clear example of this. It’s as if each map is designed to have a high percentage of recycled content and a lower percentage of new content. Vurhonga Savanna was released without lions, and it was a poorly received launch (the lion was added later in the New Species DLC in 2019).
When I saw the NEM map released without any new species (like the American Woodcock or the Ruffed Grouse, for example), it broke my heart.
I don’t know if the fact that The Angler has stopped development is having a positive effect on COTW (more species and improved quality, design, etc.), maybe because there are now more people on the team.
I love the environmental design of NEM and Revontuli Coast.
Nem just hit as eastern Layton with more small game to me. Like yes I loved the muzzleloader (nerfed now, no reason) but the rest of the map was kinda eh.
Rev felt the same way but I loved the raccoon dogs.
I need Africa 2.0 to have plenty of big game with at least five new ones, honestly I don't care if they include elephants or rhinos. Hippos would be cool, but I mostly want plains game
- Impala
- Roan
- Hartebeest
- Sable
- Eland
- Kob
- Waterbuck
- Thompson gazelle
- Nyala
- Grant's gazelle
- Blesbok
- Grey duiker
- Blue duiker
- Dik dik
- Klipspringers
If that was the maps roster, id pay 20 or 30$ without hesitation
My personal plains game list
- Greater Kudu
- Impala
- Sable
- Eland
- Roan
- Nyala
- Bushbuck
- (Common) Duiker
- Blesbok
- Red Hartebeest
- Steenbok
- Black wildebeest
- (Remastered) Lion
14.(remastered) Warthog - (Remastered) Blue wildebeest
I think this list would definitely make for a legendary map. But even a lot of these animals don’t have to be on this one. Like Roan could easily go on a Cameroon map instead of a South African map
I feel like greater kudu, impala, and sable are three absolutely must have species, if Africa 2.0 is going to be a southern or eastern African map
I'm seriously considering doing an African themed dlc thread including an outfit and rifle, and vehicle
Do it

Wow, while back I joked at this point we’ll see a Scotland(maybe it’s France but I doubt that) map before Africa 2.0…and here it is🥲
DAY 671 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 15 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
EW is recycling the assets.
Hopefully they at least gave the European Hare and Roe Deer a remodel like they did for the Boar and Red Deer
But yeah would’ve preferred to see this or the pamir mountains Tajikistan that Resonant Weevil suggested
The remodeled Roe Deer is confirmed.
Ignore me I’m dyslexic lol 🤦
This map is a candidate with less possibility. I love hunting in Tayikistan because I am a mountain man.
Where was it confirmed anyhow? Idk how I missed that.
It is fine
From @hybrid sundial
Doc honse actually
Hopefully the antlers get a tweak (or at least new variants) as well hard to tell if the ones in the photo r new but I can’t remember a rack like that. Tho they’re all so similar at that size I could be wrong.
The Roe Buck of the photo has to be a Level 1 animal. Small antlers.
That or a very small 2 who has the lvl 1 antlers but the lvl 2 weight (uncommon but happens sometimes)
People believe the next Great One is Roe Deer.
I don’t really care about g1s but I’d guess it’s either roe deer, wild boar, or the red deer g1 getting redone. But either way I won’t be going for em.
That’s fair
Once again I'm saddened not to receive Africa 2.0
Maybe they made this map full of repeats so they could have more time to work on African animals?
That would make sense seeing as how New England Mountains came with that massive set of backfills
I once again must ask this question:
HOW MANY FREAKING RED DEER MAPS ARE THEY GOING TO FORCE ON US?
I think the Scotland map will have pheasant and this animal will have 7 maps (6 maps for red deer).
#1439006103919661198
After this they better not make a red deer map till we have the following: Several more African Maps, the Canadian Arctic, 1 or 2 more South American Maps and a couple more Asian Maps
We did see maps that featured a lot of repeats (New England Mountains), before we got a map that featured several new species (Emerald Coast and Sunderpatan). My thoughts is that EW saves money on animal models on these maps that can then be used for future DLC, but while still gaining funds from DLC sales with less new species. I'm hoping after the December release they will have the funds to work on Mongolia or Africa 2.0 which would bring a tonne of unique animals.
I just figured Mongolia would’ve been still familiar enough to be done especially since our last map was askiy (which while very good and brought very unique animals to the table, still predominately featured old species, even if reworked) but whatever, maybe it was still too many new animals / too much along side the new lodge features
Can’t really know, all I know is I’m hoping it’s still enjoyable to run around on. I wasn’t expecting Africa this map release anyway, just Mongolia. Askiy is still great even if it was a bit disappointing it wasn’t a full arctic map
I can't think of any other reason EW would avoid Africa except for the amount of work such a map would take. They could create an entire game featuring only African species and still stuggle to fit every African game animal into it. Every African reserve could feature an entire roster of unique species if they wished, so modelling every animal would be a major challenge and would be a lot more expensive than any other continent.
They’ve stated they want to fix up and advance the lodges more before Africa, which is why I was not expecting Africa
I agree on Mongolia, while gazelle and argali etc. would be pretty unique many species such as wapiti and Siberian roe deer could basically be remodels of existing species and would be much less work.
And this of course, gotta have a lodge that can fit elephants first lol
as an added note they begin research and plan out reserves as much as 3 years beforehand with 2 years often being the minimum; given they only really noticed the traction this thread got around middle of last year they likely had to change plans to implement any kind of african reserve and it still wont come tile sometime next year in the development cycle
I didn’t know that about the development time 🤔 but I still wasn’t expecting an African map till next year at the very earliest because of the lodge thing
Indricotherium has miraculously and spontaneously become De-extinct and is roaming South Africa(and you could legally hunt it)
What dangerous game rifle are you using?
Or .458 Lott
Nice choices
I remember them from ARK.
I didn't like them
Actually, im interested. Answer your own question
Ah yes, Paraceratherium (Indricotherium is considered synonymous due to taxonomic naming rules). I would probably go with a double rifle chambered in no less then 470 Nitro Express or a bolt-action no smaller then 416 Rigby
Nothing smaller than a 500 nitro express. Dare I even say, maybe a 4 boar might be recommended(for as crazy as it is)
Considering the size of this particular animal, a mild explosive bullet would probably be fairly effective.
Also, why does no one in the JP movies use explosive rounds? That would literally solve so many problems
Because so far the only competent character in the franchise was Roland Tembo
That's fair, ironically he was the first person I had in mind for the African outfit in that thread I made lol
I think those 2 scientists and those kids were mildly competent to
It’s a good safari outfit for sure
The shorts are not too short(unlike how so many South Africans wear shorts, cover your thighs please they are very blinding!)
Nah, Timmy could have walked over and gave Allen the shotgun. But instead He just hovered over his sister while the raptor was trying to get in!
They can be seen from space, I swear
Exactly! Why would you even wear the shortest of short shorts in an environment where every single plant is covered in inch long thorns?
And what’s even crazier is that if it gets chilly outside(the coldest it gets during their winter is around 60 degrees) they will put on a jacket but keep the short shorts on!
Are you cold?
WEAR PANTS
No see, even here, wyoming. I still see people going out in shorts when its literally snowing and they have the severe lack of brain cells to say "oh its so cold today isn't it"?
Yes, because you're out here wearing a stretched out speedo you idiots!
Every winter here in Alberta when I was a kid it was always at least one guy shorts on the "warmer" winter days, the amount of people with too much confidence during winter is crazy
You know for a fact at least one dude ended up with frostbitten acorns because they thought they were fine
I wear pants all year around, sometimes multiple but I've been known to occasionally wear my German Adidas slides in winter tho I do it much more in summer ofc
Do you think or I guess how many animals do you think have spooked because they could see the guides pasty white thighs from miles away?
When I lived in Utah one time I watched a man shovel his driveway during a blizzard wearing flip flops, basketball shorts, and a sleeveless shirt. It made no sense to me
Definitely some, but most of the time when on a stalk they’re bending down so I don’t think that matters as much
(I had a 5’3 ph tell me to bend down lower than him, I’m 6’5 that was virtually impossible, I had to walk like a penguin and he still told me to get lower)
I can understand this, im 6'3" so I get the issue with actually making yourself smaller
It’s okay though, he was crazy good PH
That's fine but dude, its not like every other guy can fold up like a lawn chair
RIGHT!!!
I worked with a guy once would could actually walk in a squat so deep it left drag marks and my boss asked why I wasn't going under the trailers like he did to do installs.
Man was literally 5'0 and went under 3' somewhat upright
Built like a furby
Oh why can’t you do the same things as me
CUZ I’LL BRAKE MY BACK IF I DID WHAT YOU DO!🤣
Im tall but also apparently have unusually broad shoulders, I have to turn sideways to get through doors in older buildings so I could literally get stuck under there too
Too long, stubbies are the go to for shorts in NZ. I always hunt in rugby shorts lol
And that makes sense for New Zealand(unless you’re hunting Tahr in the mountains). But here’s the thing…in Africa everything is covered in inch long thorns
Every single bush behind and in front of that giraffe is covered in them
And ticks, ran into a nest of those one time, that was fun(not)
I feel like guys have been running around Africa with less than shorts for millennia. I’d be more concerned with heat than thorns, I’d definitely be wearing shorts anyway.
guilty as charged
I just can't bring myself to wear long pants in the veld, even though every time I come back home I've got at least one more cut that broke the skin
I was calling you out specifically😂
I used to live in Tennessee. Farm country. That usually means rusty barbwire and mile long patches of greenbriar.
I'll stick with my heavy canvas brush pants because I want to at least lessen the chance of a 2 in thorn punching holes in my bits
I had a feeling hey 😂
To be fair you can still hunt Tahr in NZ with shorts 😂 especially in summer
DAY 672 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 16 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
I swear, British people went to Africa noticed it was somewhat warm and immediately decided to wear nothing but their boxers and call.it fashion
Found another answer to this question, a 10ga version of this
Jesus H. Christ
What? That's a big animal
wound channel from hell
Bows kill by causing bleeding, this isn't much different
Somebody said the new teaser looks like Congo 💀
how does someone get congo from red deer, a castle, and a tin flute 😭
Copium
That hurts me in so many ways
DAY 673 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 17 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
I’ve always wanted a Martini-Henry or Martini-Enfield so definitely. They were the most popular pig guns in NZ during the late 19th and well into the 20th centuries. I’d say a Martini-Enfield in .303 would still be great in a pinch when chasing boars behind dogs which is what I’d like one for. They’re still pretty common here but hard to find one that hasn’t seen over a century of hard use 😅
I been looking into them but they're kinda few and far between here in the US. Truth be told id love to get one of these and put some custom work into it. New barrel and caliber, custom stock and lever, nice stock, and maybe some nice leather work too
Dime a dozen in NZ, they were a cheaper option in the early 20th century than a brand new Lee-Speed or even milsurp Lee-Enfields so most I’ve found weren’t treated all that well. Have seen a few nice examples over the years though. Best bet is importing from a Commonwealth country though I’d imagine that would cost a lot more than one would be worth.
Yikes, not any more apparently 😬 these aren’t good condition rifles either.
Guess they must be getting pretty rare as many of them start to bugger out. They would be cool on an African reserve though as they were used extensively during the Boer War. Can’t see us getting another after the one we had on Sundarpatan though.
I could probably buy a barreled action easier
Westly Richard’s makes martini rifles if you want great condition and high quality
Very much a hear me out choice
Oh for sure
That's not a bad idea for a thread, just hear people out for their . . . interesting. . .choices
A hear me out thread!
That should be an official EW thread
I have one in mind, and yes, its an old one
.600 NE would be my choice for any almost any extinct animal over 1t with some exceptions. Roland Tembo knew what was up
DAY 674 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 17 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
Do you think a Tru-Tusk system would be possible?
Maybe but I'm not sure. I would think it's possible considering we have truracs
We are 7 months away from the release of the Africa map (Summer 2026). I want the lion, cape buffalo, and warthog to be remodeled and added as returning species.

Where did you get that from?
My hunch 💜
Can we go a step further and add a Tru-mane system for lion? A scraggly little scruff for lower tiered males progressing up to "blond dude on the cover of a romance novel" level manes for diamonds?
Tru-size would be awesome but it’s not possible because it’d break multimounts
Wish there was a non-ridiculous way for the devs to do that
I don’t think it’d really break multimounts, would just make them a lot more work (since they’d have to make a version for each size combo) but I think it’d be worth it. Especially if they could give us the ability to make our own custom multimounts with the base solo trophy poses with a placement system to hold us over till they can add more
I think it depends on the multymount also, I don't think on some it would change much on others...
Sincerely wish

Tomorrow I will be leaving to return to Southern Germany and so with me being in Central Sweden right now the drive will be quite long ( about 24hrs roughly ) which means I will not be online from Wednesday up until Friday evening but I will need to unpack and settle in so I will not be back until saturday or sunday. I have created this post in preperation so in theory I don't miss the days ( like I have done in the past ). See you all then guys and keep the noise alive for this suggestion!
Regards, NZ-Alpine-Hunter
It wouldn’t be real Tru-size, then, just a size for each weight estimate otherwise there would still be clipping in the multimounts. Way better than nothing, but I personally don’t think that’ll ever happen though. The devs would have to make each size variation compatible with every other size variation and these devs don’t strike me as people to do a non-profitable QOL time investment like that
"Scotland. Because men in skirts are better than the Big Five. I see how it is."
That face tho 🤣
I think they avoid africa because they cant do elephants and stuff and then rather doing no africa map like a plains game map with plenty of new antelopes then getting even more bashed for doing an africa map without elephants. I yall get what i mean
They’ve been doing upgrades along side DLC drops, like the recent feeder update combined with the couple of free animal redos and wolf G1, i think it’d be worth it, not to mention the upcoming lodge QOL which sure, pushes lodge DLC sales but doesn’t directly make revenue itself.
I think it’s in the boundaries of what they can do, especially recently
They’ve also seemed interested in redoing the inventory UI with a past thread asking for ideas, which is def a QOL update that doesn’t rlly give them money but makes our lives a lot easier. I don’t rlly think it’s true to say these devs wouldn’t give us free QOL, sure a DLC will come out along side it probably to off set cost and up hype but that doesn’t rlly make the QOL not free
And yeah I agree, probably can’t do real tru size but a size via weight catagorey would be better then nothing, the smallest animals looking like the biggest is a bit sad lol
I do think a mane system on lions and a tru tusk system for elephants is 100 percent possible though
Still wish we got a coat system for tigers they could use w zebras 🥀
"Tru-stripes" would require procedural texturing I think, which is probably not possible for how they make their models. They'd just have to make a couple common texture variants to mix it up
The greener shotgun
I was thinking a system where u split the animal into three parts (back middle front) and just have pre made coats for each section that line up no matter how u mix and match, would be a way to make it so you have a lot of combos and make them more unique each time even if u can still get dupes / there is a max amount of combos still
That would actually be possible I think
I’d want it for spotted animals and piebald too, really anything like that that can benifit from it
Sure it wouldn’t have infinite possibilities since it’s not a random gen system but much like the sizes via weight range it’s a good compromise imo
i think its a good compromise too, a lot of people seem to think that because they did a random generated pattern system in the angler they can do it in cotw, but the thing is that animals are a lot harder to make than fish (i have never played the angler but im certain theres' a lot less animation and modelling and all that involved in fish than there is for animals in cotw) and i feel like setting it up would take a lot more effort and issues
Interesting as it is, that's not my hear me out weapon for the game
Apparently there was supposed to be a 3rd version of the .470 that we didn't get for some reason, I searched call of the Wild on artstation.com and found this in the concept art
What happened?! This is thing looks great whyd it get left out?
That does look very nice
We could have had an engraved 470?…🥲🥲🥲🥲
Right?! This would have been so cool as a Vurhonga final mission weapon
I JUST REALIZED THE ENGRAVED ONE GOT LEFT OUT BUT WE GOT THE WEIRD SYNTHETIC STOCKED VERSION
WHY HAVE YOU DONE THIS EW?!
Probably decided to make it a future mission reward or something.
Then why has no one gotten it? If something like this was available it would have been posted somewhere other than a 7 year old artstation.com page
Probably in 2.0 or 3.0, etc.
If Africa 2.0 recycles the same rifle from Vurhonga Savanna half the people in this thread will riot
Having the synthetic stock for a double barrel rifle before an engraved version is just insane…this is actually madness
I was already feeling really bummed out because of the new map…AND NOW THIS
My apologies but I'm not enjoying this either
And much like the other limits this game faces, I think a lot of it is it’s just a game already years into its life. The angler was built w that in mind, COTW was not. I think it’d be plausible in a new game that was built with that system baked into it but it’s probably too difficult to ATP depending on how they make their models.
I think COTW still has plenty of years on it (glad the devs agree w the recent QnA) and while we can’t get these nice sounding systems due to its age, I think there’s still plenty of ways we can work around it as the game is rn besides specific stuff like render distance and cross play
yeah, i've said it before - changing to a new engine is possible but it would take a tremendous amount of work
Do rlly wish we could get those last two mentioned things still but…alas, I don’t think a whole new game is worth it for that
Men in kilts are hot tbh
this tbh
At least kilts cover more than an African man's shorts
They’ve said a number of times that they are capable of doing elephants, we’re past this
and they've also said that they need to rework lodges to make elephants
cant find it but someone said further up they plan maps like a year in advance. the lodge rework isn't even out yet.
They’re messing about with lodge places at the moment, workarounds have also been made such as doing only head mounts. Head mounts are more common than full body mounts irl.
This is a converted martini that someone made for .375 Flanged magnum supposedly, would you hunt a lion with it?
Ah okay, yeah I didn't consider which mounts would be more common
A full body elephant mount would take up so much space lmao
Saseka could in theory have a platform big enough for elephants if they do a lot of rearrangement
But it would be significantly better if they remastered both lodges(and make the Layton lakes one more customizable, it makes no sense why it can only have base game map animals on it)
Found this mount and im curious you could do the same with a lion and springbok
Lion and springbok mount would be cool, especially because springbok doesn’t have a multi mount (actually, how come most of Vurhonga doesn’t get a multi mount? The only ones are lion, Cape buffalo, and lesser kudu)
Here is another pose that would be really cool for lion&springbok
Few other lion ideas
Here’s a few for the jackal too, could have one for jackal and scrub hare as well but they both need some help model wise.
Lots of options that just aren't being considered 🤔
I hope 8.4 somehow accounts for them
Mountain bongo born to eland :0 modern science fascinated me. https://share.google/v0DY96s82RS8wmggV
Jeez, between this and the wolves it feels like jurassic park is closer every day
a little off topic but I got jump-scared by a huge water monitor today
I was out fishing in a spot with quite dense vegetation, bow and arrow casting my fly out into the water when I heard a rustling in the bush which I first though was my friend coming from a weird direction and then about 2 minutes later when I turned around to change spots this big browny-green thing slid into the water in a hell of a hurry, anyways, I shat myself and now I know there's a water monitor longer than a meter that lives at my fishing spot that I've been going to for over 2 years now.
Stories about Africa don't seem off topic in the Africa thread. Also, a meter long qualifies that as a good trophy
Ja that thing would look really good as a full mount of even just a skin
I won't lie, had I seen him before he was at the waters edge I'd have considered tryna catch him just to hold on to him and snap a photo despite the fact that he'd probably bite me pretty hard and whip me with his tail which I've seen them do and that does NOT look fun
The leather is quite desirable as well
It’s cloning is such a crazy cool thing
This means Hirola populations can grow from other hartebeest, Giant sable from common sable, sitatunga from Nyala, etc.
Maybe Tibetan antelope and Saiga from pronghorn(maybe)
So many potentials for conservation
Tibetan Antelope and Saiga from Pronghorn is more of a stretch then any of the other things you listed, to start with the Pronghorn isn't even within the Bovidae family and their closest living relative happens to be giraffe with their last common ancestor living sometime in the Early Miocene
To further expand, the Tibetan Antelope is more related to sheeps and goats (Caprinae subfamily) while Saiga are closer to Gazelles and Blackbuck (Antilopinae subfamily)
You need to watch jurassic park again, things do not go well when we clone stuff
The thing is though, dinosaurs have been gone for far too long to be cloned into existence, the dna just simply is gone after tens of millions of years in the ground
The absolute closest thing we could get to cloning dinosaurs(and they’re not even real dinosaurs, they’re monsters made to look like dinosaurs, that’s the point of Jurassic park) is a chicken with a particularly long tail.
Brother the idea is the same, genetically altered crocs and cloned sabre toothed cats can kill humans just as easily as any dinosaur and considering they're small enough to easily get into buildings they might be worse
don't give me ideas here 😂
kudu needs to be class 7 and nala bull needs to ne class 6 and a frmale nala needs to be class 5
Bro... just STOP DREAMING you will get NOTHING. To add the "Big Five" as huntable species in Call of the Wild they need to add a new Lodge first that can fit those behemoths. The biggest animals right now are aprox. 1.200 kg and the elephants are 6x that size.
so tell me where do you want to put an animal 6x bigger than the wild yak in your lodge?
Probably somewhere here
Granted a full body mount would be a bit of a tight fit and saseka could probably only fit a maximum of about 4 full body mounts, but shoulder mounts will definitely work in saseka, just need some changes to the positioning of plaques
Here are some photos from the Letaba Elephant hall in the Kruger National Park for some ideas of how you could fit Elephant trophies into the lodges. I've also included a photo with people for a size comparison
DAY 679 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 22 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
And here is some taxidermy mounts
Sesaka safari has a couple of spots if you rearrange everything, but not spring creek(spring creek is so outdated). But yeah, they really need to remaster the lodges
I have another announcement to make. I am now in Germany again and I forgot that the wifi in my apartment is of extremely poor quality on my laptop, so I only run on about 0.10-1.5mb per second and there is no sign of any changes or improvements coming. And I'll be here for the next 13 weeks so unless I can come up with a better solution, I will most likely have to discontinue my daily posts unless someone else is interested in doing it.
Oh, like these?
gonna have to check some legalities and make a plan here now
DAY 680 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 23 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
It's been 23 days?!
Yep
long time
Last night I had a dream that I was on the new map and the warden was telling me about a trophy lodge, and I was like oh cool so it’s going to be like parque Fernando with the lodge. So than I go inside only to see this exact mount…and then I woke up from pure disappointment
Had a dream last night that the new g1 is plains bison and it would be backfilled to vurhonga 😭
I would be tempted to place this in the bathroom facing the throne. 🤣
surely its been sedated...
The horse is just in the background like “I don’t want none of that smoke”
The face I'll be making if Africa 2.0 is not the summer 2026 map
I was looking closer at this to see if maybe it was AI but my wife noticed something and started ranting
His shoelaces are different colors and neither color matches the boots
Nah it gets a lot of things right that AI would screw up for sure
Like the bridle. I assume the buffalo is darted and he's helping it down
Alright yeah but dude does not look dressed for field work
Those are riding clothes
Kinda exactly what I mean
The difference in how people dress from place to place despite extremely similar climates has always been weird to me
You can see the dart sticking out of its shank between the man’s hip and the Buffalo
Flank, shank would be way too low. Just above the "elbow" is the shank
Exactly, I tell South Africans that leather chaps would be perfect for when in the bush because it’s very similar to the west and chaps would protect their legs from all the inch long thorns….then they look at me weird while wearing the shortest of short shorts
A good set of leather chaps would be a godsend in sanke country too
Hard to tell if it’s in the round or back shank but it definitely isn’t in the flank
Didn't mean flank in a butcher cut sense, more like large animal terminology. Should have probably specified cattleman terms
That’s still where the flank is lol, the flank is the space between the last rib and the hip
I'm used to flank being the back leg/rear, I guess that was just my boss though. To clarify, i worked at an exotics ranch in Tennessee for a couple years and whenever we had to tranq animals the boss said aim for the flank and pointed a laser at it
"It feels more respectable than telling you idiots to shoot them in the ass"
Ah we always would just say the rump but that was referring to horses
He would get pissed off if we said anything but flank some guess that's just habitual now
Disliked cussing? Or just a weird control thing?
Did he just not know about the word haunch?
Edit: Or hind, rear, etc., any other term really. Bro was strange.
He was a p.i.t.a control freak and fanatical baptist. Hated every second of working with his
Ah that makes sense
ah, he was one of those types
Loved the job, hated the boss situation
Take it you've met some like him before
yep
Hmm, don't miss those days
some dudes do that an it annoys me just as much
I do like the green laces with leather boots/vellies though. My vellies actually also have green laces
Between this information and the conversation with @untold maple about shorts the other day im starting to wonder if you folks are ok out there
DAY 681 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 24 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
That one trunk up in the back
"I'M HERE TOO GUYS!!!"
Im for less maps and more bugg fixes,QoL, remodels and more trophy-lodge stuff
A big five map or atleast the big five spread across a few maps has to be added at least at some point
It’s essentially like a dinosaur game having no Tyrannosaurus rex or raptors. Africas big five is the greatest luxury of hunting
I won't argue that but I would say the tiny ten are a truly hidden treasure
Make that a park like Salzwiesen for the future
naaaah look how sharp these things look 😂
middle pair is buffalo leather btw
Im imagining purple and pink strings and cheeks visible from space.
This does not help your case
twas worth a shot to explain it
I don't know hey, maybe it's just what we are this side 😂
To quote red dead redemption.
Vanity is the legacy the British left behind
You know, I just remembered that there's actually a South African song about wearing short shorts and it's literally called "wys jou vleis", trust me an google it because it sounds real odd to say on this thread
I would argue that mountain game(ibex, bighorn, argali, Markhor, ect) have become more of a rich man’s hunt now.
It has
Like yes, the big 5 are still expensive, but the most expensive lion hunt in Tanzania is less expensive than the cheapest markhor hunt in Asia(not counting the markhor in Texas)
Why am I supposed thered makhor in Texas...
Interesting
Here is my evidence to back my statement
That's a beauty, id love that for the wall
Do you get a toilet made of gold? And diamond boot trays?
One day….one day
Nah, if I’d ever get to hunt a lion it will probably be Zimbabwe, Mozambique, or Namibia. Better prices than Tanzania.
And I am far too unlikely to ever go on a markhor hunt in Asia. The price jumped a hundred thousand since I checked a while ago, crazy expensive
I drove to Texas for a Nilgai hunt and paid 140$, 75 of which was my buddy whining until we tried a fancy steakhouse.
16 ounce T-bone my tail, there was more meat on a squirrel's.tail
Dang! 140 for a nilgai hunt?
No the hunt was free, that was gas, food, and a new cap
Dang….just…wow
Yeah,that's what im sayin
I feel like I’ve def heard flank used for the back end before too ur not alone 😂
DAY 682 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 25 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
The upcoming African map is going to need many new species. Can EW exceed our expectations with a cool list of new and returning (remastered) species?
2 likes in 25 days 💀
We lost two upvotes if i'm not mistaken so +4-2 💀
I think we lost 3 actually
we were on 2004 and now were back down to 2001
Yeah, we were at 5 the other day
EW Sees this and thinks: "oh well this post is losing 3 upvotes, the Prof no one wants an africa 2.0"
Don’t give them any ideas!
If this Trend goes on NZalpinehunter can post even longer. Day 684 of waiting for africa 2.0 , 27 days since reaching 2000 upvotes and one day since getting under 2000 upvotes
Let’s go through the species list and think of any exotic variations
I’ll try to randomly get to the top🫡
GOT IT
The trick is to press around somewhere in between the back button and the title
https://discord.com/channels/393040947006406657/1336821988718809119
and here’s the best source to find rare fur colors for African animals
I mean this is also one of the few suggestions with its first post pinned… 😂
……now you tell me🥲
i dont like this kinda attitude
its not that they dont know about community's wishes for a new africa map its that they only noticed the thread recently (apparently) and they plan out maps in advance before making them
So for Impala exotic variations we have, Black, saddle-backed, white-flanked, white, dappled and piebald
Its literally just because of Discord Mobile's layout. The back arrow is directly above the upvote tag and trying to hit the arrow can make you unvote the post, I've done it like six times
Send me your coordinates
DAY 683 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 26 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
And Tan
oh ja I forgot about tan
Looks like he needs sunscreen out there
That coat looks smoother than my fathers bald head
EW, please Im begging you to give us the Buff Buster
Melanistic Waterbuck!
Is it me or are his horns pointed forwards?
Should put that over in https://discord.com/channels/393040947006406657/1336821988718809119
.416 would be the ultimate 7-9 with the current class system
DAY 684 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 27 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
EW "we want to make Africa 2.0but the current lodges arent suitable for animalsof that size"
"We're working on a rework of the current lodges, please keep an eye on it"
"Cosmetics DLC to make your lodge sparkly"
"Why is everyone upset? We worked on the lodge like we said?"
I WONDER
It’s outrageous! They’re charging us for an update(a dlc for a dlc as a lot of people are calling it) for the lodges.
This is something EA or Ubisoft would do, I’m so disappointed at EW right now
I'll buy the map, but the lodge cosmetics are beyond pointless for.me
only the premium mounts are paid everyone still gets customizable mounts
Said this earlier, but im not a fannof how much the devs are focusing on monetized cosmetics compared to things we actually need
Of course
Maps, weapons, equipment like feeders, the skin packs they have. That makes sense to buy, and I’ll gladly spend money on those, because that’s actual content(except for most of the skin packs because I don’t like most of those).
But this? This is just wrong. If they are willing to charge the consumer for dlc for a dlc what else are they willing to charge? New animals on older maps? Individual weapons? That’s what this pack represents to me, and I’m so upset by it
Individual weapons at the right price, im okay with. The majority of this crap im not willing to buy. This dlc for a dlc bull just doesn't work and I don't think theyve even considered that console players have to pay extra to even show their lodges to their friends
Exactly!
I mean, 3$ for a new pair of binos, a 2-8 rifle scope, maybe a light tent, sure. Easy.
3$ for a dlc that already cost me 8$ just to change the shape of a plaque? No thanks
Yeah this should totally have been free
There actually is a free one! And that's the dumb part! You get 40 plaques free and they still decided to offer "premium" designs for more money rather than something actually useful or fun
Set yourself up for failure on this one, I never got the idea they’d be redoing lodges this update for sizes. You’re also downplaying it but this has also been a requested feature for a while, even if it’s not one you personally prioritize.
Also comparing this to EA or Ubisoft is actually laughable I’m sorry. I’d personally much rather cosmetic DLC (where we also have free options) than continuing to buy gun packs for basically 1 weapon when the base game still doesn’t have good non dlc options for some classes.
I’m sure a new lodge that can fit elephants to what we need is at the very least on their development cycle list, this update contains plenty of stuff we needed / wanted for lodges, with more then half of it being free and the other part being 4 dollars, cosmetic only, and will go on sale just like everything else.
Even the “DLC for DLC” thing isn’t really true, given we do have a free lodge, they just need to remove the species restrictions, and they’ve been needing to do that LONG before this
Dont forget the fact they need to effort the Update somehow. And ya'll are also forgetting, same with the regular cosmetic packs, that those for the most part are done by the Designers. Not the devs that Code new stuff. So nobody is missing out on on crazy new Features when the Designers do something diffrent that they want.
Anyway, back to Africa, looking forward to what various African species will look like on some of these new plaques / mounts
DAY 685 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 28 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
Oh I know they're heavily requested features and it makes a huge difference in QOL for some folks. But my issue is that its all cosmetics.
You can't expect me to believe it was entirely too difficult to create something that affects the gameplay. I mean literally anything.
Some binoculars with an extra level of magnification, a reskinned 3-7 scope for the rifles, a reskinned turkey decoy for capercaillie. Maybe at the absolute least a change to the class of a weapon or two
You mean like the new gun coming with the new map?
The new gun using old ammo.
I seriously don't see why there was no way at all to make something helpful aside from the cosmetics
Just don’t buy it. A cosmetic pack (which isn’t something new for COTW) with something randomly shoved in it to make it “worth it” sounds super weird. They did plenty of “functional” stuff this update even if once again personally you do not favor them.
Why are you so offended by this? Im not saying its useless or they didn't do real work, just that cosmetics are not something we need so much focus on
Not offended just annoyed you’re conflating personal taste (you definitely insinuated the new content was useless lol) with objectively bad content and acting like EW promised what you expected when they didn’t. Disliking content is perfectly fine but the way some people are going about it is rather annoying
Alright well, let me put it this way Cosmetics are useless to me (console players are charged irl money to show them off to anyone anyway)
What does bother me is that appearance and Cosmetics are being prioritized over gameplay features that have been requested just as long as the ones theyve added.
The new UI is a huge step forward and I legitimately love the look of the Roe deer remodel more than any animal in game atm.
I just don't get why things like plaques shapes and colors are held more valuable than issues like the ballistics system that hasn't been touched since January of 2020 despite more than a dozen new additions or the lack of something as basic as binoculars and scopes.
I'm glad people are happy with the new stuff and the devs are doing really good work but I just don't understand why the looks and cosmetic stuff is taking such a high priority
I mean like how hard could it possibly be to add a toggle so that you could switch the NV binoculars to a daylight mode? Even something that small could be a massive upgrade
I could ask the same, given this is the first time we’ve gotten anything relating to lodges besides some new multimounts in years 🤷 again it’s a personal taste thing to me rather then anything actually up with EWs priorities
I’m gunna stop going back and fourth about this since this just seems like you want what you want only, but I do hope we get some of the stuff you’re wishing for soon
Right, you definitely won this
I don’t wanna “win” anything since this is still just a discussion at the end of the day and we’re all wanting the best for the game ^^ but even if it’s an update not for you, just think of it as an investment for the stuff you do want hopefully in the future with the money they make from it! What I’ll continue to do for updates that don’t appeal to me lolll
I’m so looking forward to people using those nice white mounts for stuff like albino lions, and then thinking about that but also a lion model update one day 👀
i really hope we get this map down the line (2026 i hope)
Yeah, late 2026 or early 2027 is my guess for something Africa judging by how they plan future maps out
Also re: cosmetics conversation;
I understand some people dont really care much about cosmetics and customisation especially since this is a hunting game and I personally haven't bought any gun customisation DLC aside from one (that might have been free with the map? I don't remember buying it lmao, it's the NEM pack) but I do like customisation and others like it as well. In my opinion customisation is a nice bonus, I love my wood stock on my guns (wish the free ones weren't so bad 😭) and I like to make things my own/personalised rather than the same as everyone else's - part of the reason why I like to do grinds on maps that aren't 'optimal' such as my EC fallow grind and my Medved wolf grind.
Cosmetics aren't for everyone but they are for some, hence why I don't mind cosmetics updates and I'd actually like more for character customisation if they ever implement something like Classic's trophy photo mode. I do think that cosmetics should not be the main focus of every DLC but having something that's for customisation and personalisation is neat every once in a while.
What they've done with trophy lodges this coming update is a big step toward that imo, shows they are listening to the community even if some things take time. We should be grateful the development team is receptive of feedback and open to the opinion of the playerbase, a lot of games/dev teams aren't as welcoming to things like that and I am happy EW is one of those teams that do care.
its also an odd thing to me, since id rather pure customization over actual gameplay features be locked behind cash, which i thought was the prevailing thought with other gamers, but seems to be the exact opposite for many people here. i'd personally rather actual gameplay additions be made base game (therefore more accessible to more people) and the customization can grease the money wheels since its purely optional, but i guess not? obviously i dont want the crap AAA games do where they make 60$ skins or gamepasses that lock customization behind it or loot boxes for skins but a 4$ DLC for something you can entirely ignore, has plenty of content within it, and get free options alongside seemed entirely fair and like a good monetization decision to me 😭 maybe its because im someone whos bought all the gun wraps (they where all like. extremely cheap at the time and i went eh what the hell) but this as a DLC doesnt seem any different then that / what theyve been doing already and no ones busted their lid with the gun wrap DLCs, which IMO are "less" then the new trophy lodge DLC and the new DLC is only a dollar more!
i agree with the hunter customization!! my dream for trophy shots besides existing was more player customization options (maybe with trophy shots i will care more about me running arctic cameo in EC or Sundar 😂), the ability to hang them up in lodges, and a human model update because 😬 on the current human model.
id love to see a day where me dropping enough cash on customization DLC makes the ATV and tent DLC free for my fellow PC gamers since THAT is something that should be free! also maybe a new free lodge or at least the base lodge having its species restrictions removed!
ye i agree with this lmao
Yeah the human model needs improvement
Hell, you can make it less photorealistic to be more optimized while having more customization.
I have been e-mailing a guide in South Africa about a small plains game hunt and we talked in a VC for rhe first time earlier today and he actually said (quoting a professional guide here)
"I've learned to judge how much trouble someone will be by listening to how they speak and the questions they ask. I would genuinely love to have you as a client, please give them my name when you book"
He didn't explain what TH he meant and im sitting here confused af
Basically, if the client says he wants to hunt a buffalo with a 45-70
Or if the client consistently asks about prices and or deals
I said I wanted to hunt impala with a .30-30 but I don't really see how that's something that makes trouble for the guide or trackers, didn't talk about the price tho. I figured 3k is kinda on the cheap side but the tents are really nice
Oh yeah, you’ll be fine
He said he love to have you as a client, that’s a good thing.
I'd definitely hunt buffalo with a .45-70 but this is just a pretty basic plains game hunt. Impala, zebra and blesbok.
Im kinda surprised he didn't complain about the .30-30 tbh
He's probably happy to not have a 5 millionth client with magnumitis who wants to bring something like .300RUM to shoot a 85lb impala
Mostly because it’s on a plains game hunt and not dangerous game. Also because impala and blesbok aren’t that big and tough like kudu.
I would definitely want to watch that hunt though. That sounds fun(saw a video of guy hunt a buffalo with a 405 fairly recently, that was a fun watch)
I'm helping a couple guys build. 9.3 RUM actually.
Anyway yeah I was talking with him about it and he said like 95% of his clients take shots within 150 yards so I figure my .30-30 that's worked just fine on elk should work there.
Actually, just remembered I have killed a donkey with it, zebras are just donkeys with a complex
Zebras are donkeys with a complex and on PEDs
I call em prison donkeys.
He asked if I had been tent camping and I almost laughed, the tents on their website are basically wall tents on a deck.
Like, that's glamping
Yeah African hunts can have pretty cushy accommodations
The PH : oh yeah, we really like to rough it around here
Yep, we’re in the deep bush here
yo its the Vurhonga outpost
Only the toughest can survive out here…would you like to try some kudu pate with that?
Anyways, as I was saying, ONLY THE STRONGEST CAN HANDLE OUR HUNTS
This tent has a chandelier, that’s insane to think about
😭 i love this
DAY 686 AND 687 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 28 AND 29 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
Literally nicer than the accommodation I've stayed in
The photo I got here is from the places website cuz I deleted the ones I took, I must say tho, I've never seen grass there so idk how old this photo is
I'VE SPENT A WEEK UNDER A TARP WITH SLEET EVERY DAY AND YOU HUNT LIKE THIS?!
Nah, all I did was google safari camp and these were the results😂
This is the kinda sh*% they put up in a suburb and swear its wilderness so they can charge you a liver and five kidneys for a night's sleep with some dipstick in a bush playing indistinct animal sounds on a loudspeaker annoying you half to death
No joke, right after I read this I switched over to google and this was the first thing I saw. This is at the San Diego zoo, they charge people to go “CAMPING”🤣🤣🤣
It’s crazy to think that people would pay to go sleep in a zoo for a night and call it a safari
"Oh mummy let us go camping in Africa without leaving a major city in the US"
Disney kids mentality
You just know this was some grimy streetweasel's half ar*e get rich quick scheme that makes a bundle off wannabe eco nerds
It's a good compromise
It's basically "I wanna have a safari experience with my family but flying to Africa is a pain times 10000" so zoos and safari parks in America have overnight experiences
Also doing that sorta stuff with kids makes it even more of a pain
And I'm not rly mad about it being mostly for money because imagine the food and vet bills
One of South Africa's most beautiful Antelopes
The lack of cool antelope in the game rn is the reason I rly badly want a new African map.
we need africa 2.0 so badly
It's not that bad, I would imagine most people are aware it's just sleepover in a zoo and not a surviving in a wildnerness. I tried it once in my local zoo, it was fine. There were mostly families with small children. Main reason was because people staying at the camp can stay in the zoo before and after closing hours, and dodge the crowds.
Oh no I agree
Especially for dodging crowds. I often visit the Bronx Zoo and what I tell people is to come during May, June, or September on a weekday. It's warm but the kids are in school
You can go even further and pick a cloudy or rainy day
Im kind of disappointed with the Scotland DLC except the remodel of some animals. I feel it should've been Africa or some other place
If we include the Scotland reserve 5 of the reserves are in Europe
So the United States and Europe are tied then
I’m hoping it means they’re planning for something big, if they’re conserving resources on animals perhaps that means they’ll be working on a lot of new species?
But they should do more stuff in Africa or even Asia
I would wait for a Canadian Arctic Reserve if it means next year is all about Africa
Or an actual South American map but Africa is far more popular
and improve things in North America
The Guiana Region (Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana), Peru, Northern Argentina. Its safe to say South America still has some untouched areas as far as the game is concerned
Yeah, it's the same where I live, even tho none of the zoos I visited are as big as Bronx zoo. If they have animals from colder climate, it's a worth visiting in december, january or february. Muskox or wolverines in nearby zoo are most active during these months.
They always seem to focus on Europe and it's repetitive and annoying
Yes majorly, it’s a shame that the South American map we have only has 3 “native” species so some backfilling would be welcome there as well
After Scotland we need at least a 3 year break from both Europe and the United States
The Peccary isn't even found in the part of Argentina where Parque is set, they would have been better off backfilling Mouflon to the reserve but there are some interesting native species like Guanaco, Viscachas and some birds that would fit Parque well
I wouldn't mine a reserve in the United States or Canada but it has to be something else than Europe!
True I suppose they saw “native to parts of northern Argentina” and said whatever it needs an animal, good enough like how they did on Africa with the wigeon.
Wouldn’t mind Greenland either that would be a decent Arctic reserve
If thy do another map, it better be what everybody thought Askiy ridge would be, so musk ox, polar bears, etc. Other than that, I would love to see Mongolia
Speaking of remodels
Basically the entirety of Vurhonga needs em?
Lions, Springboks, Cape Buffalo and remove the lesser kudu and replace it with the greater kudu
I'd make Vurhonga a Kalahari map and then skew the map and animals towards that
Yep, jackal needs it bad as well, warthog would benefit too and gemsbok might be able to slide by for a bit longer but I would not complain if they gave em a facelift along with the wildebeest ( also scrub hare all the hares in game need some help)
And add Waterbuck Impala maybe Hartebeest and Leopards!
Also either ditch the wigeon or add something better in their place like Guinea fowl or something
I think replacing it with something like bushbuck or Impala, fits their size and role on the map better.
Polar Bears and Musk Oxen you say, I have a thread that offers both (Alongside Dall's Sheep and Walrus) -> #1070045518002147458
https://discord.com/channels/393040947006406657/1375853270890840245 😉😉, his map is great tho
If they were to replace the Eurasian Wigeon I would personally like to see a duck species from Southern Africa like the Cape Teal or Yellow-billed Duck and limit their range to the really wet areas of Vurhonga therefore leaving room for Guineafowl
Egyptian Goose
Yeah 💯, anything that fits the map better is good with me
Impala. You mean impala should replace kudu
DAY 688 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 29 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
I'd be over the moon happy if EW gave us a nice plains game oriented map with all the antelope
I mean I can easily list 15 antelope species that you could find on one map so there is no shortage and they're the main thing everyone hunts anyways. There's also no shortage of space for maps with different animal rosters either
Hence why I'd like a nice Kalahari plains game map
I'd kill for a good kalahari/Ovamboland/caprivi map
My ideal Africa loadout would be
Kalahari
Bushveld (bordering SA and Zim)
Cameroon
Ethiopia
Maybe Tanzania
Transvaal
North and West Transvaal would be great
……we lost another like🥲
Why did they have to switch it to most recently posted? It’s killing all the good threads
That might have been me, must’ve accidentally bumped it last night. Whoops, touchscreen problems
Alright, due to holiday schedule tomfoolery, our DnD group is short two players. A decision was made to run a short campaign with a new setting until everyone got back on track.
Do to well placed bribes of baked goods and alcohol, the setting is a homebrew called Afaria that is heavily inspired by Africa.
I have successfully herded more interest toward Africa 2.0
I gotta know, does your character look like an old fashioned safari hunter?
Is that Clint Eastwood?
Yeah, white hunter black heart
Will be watching that ASAP
To answer your question, yes. My wife is playing a know it all biologist/healer, im the hunter recruited from entirely the wrong wilderness, and her best friend is playing a minotaur cape buffalo ( zootopia has done. . .strange things)
That is an 1895 on the wall behind him. . .
Zootopia has done strange things🤣🤣
Its a joke online but omg when you meet someone who is actually into it. The way she described that cop in zootopia was absolutely worrying
A minotaur based on a Cape Buffalo sounds terrifying considering the Cape Buffalos temperament and the original minotaur myth as a man-eating monster
It does and I actually thought it was an insanely cool idea at first then I learned her actual plans with the character and I suddenly very concerned
I can only imagine
Everything is just getting funnier🤣
Please, continue
I would be banned if I explained it like she did.
The minotaur is looking for a wife who is not a minotaur is as far as im willing to go
Fair enough
……….dang….just…dang
The police chief of zootopia has some very interesting fans
Yeah zootopia has a very unhinged fan base🤣
Anyway yeah, freaky crap aside theres a lot you can do with an African themed dnd. There's gryfs and loxodonts (if im spelling those right
I have no idea what those are, I’ve never played dnd so idk
Giff, the space hippo with a gun and loxodon, the humanoid elephant shatter-your-skull-inator
Yeah im new to dnd too. Used to bully the kids who played it in high-school
Interesting
That hippo looks like an esteemed gentleman
Its Canon in our group that they have an overly posh British accent
But for some reason its universally agreed the elephants sound like aussies
I see that range map included the North China Leopard (Panthera pardus japonensis) into the Amur Leopard, I have heard that they are looking for evidence to either support the lumping of the North China Leopard into the Amur Leopard OR splitting them back into their respective subspecies
I also noticed that
I'd imagine the bulls, especially big ones would sound bogan while the cows would be more refined
I can see that, fits weirdly well
DAY 689 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 30 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
DAY 690 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 31 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
DAY 691 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 32 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
This thread has also seen better days 😔
Yeah not much happing during the last couple days
It seems like every time a new map comes out this thread gets really quiet
I don’t know if it’s because of disappointment or something else, but this thread definitely goes quiet during December
It does
Idk either, if TNS doesn't change something for me I think im gonna take a long break, may leave the server for a while. Games not as fun as it used to feel
That said, I'll come back for Africa 2.0 of course but I hope you and everyone I the thread enjoy the game
Yeah I feel the same way
I haven’t played COTW since Scotland was announced
And they unnecessarily killed the feedback channel. I understand not wanting bumps(which was becoming out of control), but now I’m seeing a lot more threads become read only, and now all the really good threads have been buried underneath a mountain of single sentence threads. I feel like they did too much damage while in pursuit of damage control
Yeah, it kinda murdered meaningful engagement and because no one searches for anything theres even more repeat posts and nonsense piling up.
Honestly though my enthusiasm for the game kinda died when they started focusing on Great Ones so much they neglected the rest of the game
DAY 692 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 33 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
Man, I’m really hoping the summer map is going to be Africa or the arctic right now
The Scotland map looks so boring, I really need something exotic to keep me going
It does look fun for a europe map but I agree, central Asia also especially nice
Let’s hope!
A Central Asia map in this engine would look spectacular
I think I know how you feel about the new map
But in your own words, how do you feel about the Scottish map?
Speaking of africa
If we ever get an african map there needs to be that kind of trophy.
I did just type out a short summary for bigger reserves over on #1070045518002147458 but I feel this reserve concept would benefit from being twice the size of a standard reserve, as having a larger area size means that more animals and especially the Dangerous 7 could comfortably fit while still being a challenge to hunt
Iirc I thought there was a whole thing about them only being able to have so many animals on one reserve without performance issues? I figure what we have now is the performance max and I don’t rlly think it’s inherently bad to have everything split up across multiple reserves rather then trying to jam it all onto one, I’d honestly prefer it
That is fair
Plus imagine the price tag 😂
I get the temptation to have one huge map though, would be crazy lol
This does bring me to something I am pretty sure I have said before: We need a whole year just for Africa.
In my mind this would include
- A new Trophy Lodge with room for elephants and what not
- An African Plains Game Reserve, preferrably one that has both Lesser Kudu and Impala so that the Impala can be used to replace the Lesser Kudu over on Vurhonga (Uganda and Tanzania has both species)
- A Weapon Pack that would be suitable for hunting large African Game. I would like to see a 405 Winchester Lever-action, a 416 Bolt-action and a new Double Rifle (Over/Under or Express Side-by-side)
- Africa 2.0 with the Dangerous 7
Year of the (insert African animal) I LOVE IT
An entire year of safari based dlc’s would knock the ball out of the park! It would restore my faith in EW again
Year of the Leopard or Year of the Impala are the only acceptable answers here
Or even Lechwe
Unacceptable. Must be leopard or impala
As cool as Lechwe would be, I am for either Leopard or Impala, both have a pretty wide distribution across Africa while the Lechwe is only really found in South-Central Africa (And Nile Lechwe mostly live in South Sudan and the southeastern corner of Ethiopia) so unless the Plains Game map is set in Zambia, Impala and Leopard
As much as I love lechwe(black lechwe in particular) you gotta admit it would be really hard to advertise a little known species of antelope
The average person knows the dangerous 7, giraffe, zebra, and impala(and maybe kudu and sable). Everyone knows what those animals are. So it makes sense using one of them
I’m not trying to downplay lechwe here, but we are(relatively) a very small number of people who know the difference between a Common Lechwe and a Nile lechwe. It doesn’t really make a lot of sense to advertise to us very few. If you ask a random person on the street what a lechwe is they would look at you funny(which is very sad in opinion, but it is true)
I think that refers to like density and loaded animals, so no giant dove flocks
rlly? i figured salz wouldve been an issue then, im not quite entirely sure i just heard smth like it
Well the animals are still not super ultra concentrated, there's also people who experience performance issues on salz and rev
I’ve seen people ask for a Scottish map before, but not in a massive capacity. Frustrating that Africa 2 is still not here.
But equally it gets mentioned by name now every Q&A so it will happen. Just have to keep waiting
After the Scottish map
We need AFRICA IMPALA AND LEOPARD
DAY 693 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 34 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
And Nile Lechwe is an endangered species
Okay.
I got new headphones that have way more adjustments to them and I was playing WotH with them. I was able to adjust the headphones somehow that ducks were super quiet.
Tried it on Hirschfelden and the Geese were quieter, thought i had finally found my solution.
NOPE, VURHONGA DUCKS HAVE LOUDSPEAKERS
the vurhonga ducks are laughably loud, so are the others but I feel like the Vurhonga ones are just worse
I have my headphones from last year and the ducks in vurhonga are louder than any other map
Its not just that they're loud either, its constant too
They are also just incredibly overpopulated
70% decrease in duckery would not hurt my feelings
On vurhonga specifically, on other maps it's all ok
Pretty much i guess
A westly richards krag jorganson
Nothing particularly safari related, but every time I see a westly Richard’s, I gotta show it
I just a posted a pic in off topic of a 12ga slug gun, can you give a thought on it?
(Sorry for the late reply, I’ve been quite busy today)
Looks sturdy(I don’t particularly care for the stock, it’s a bit gurthy. But that’s basically it for me).
The stock is getting ditched, it'll be hardwood soon, but the barrel is like an inch and a half thick
That’s why I said it looks so sturdy
It’s a chunky gun
Its freaking heavy, poorly balanced too
DAY 694 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 35 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
We are so stagnant 😤
I wouldn't say that.
I was watching a Mel stream earlier and people were talking about Africa 2.0 for more than half the stream, several ideas for GOs were tossed around and this thread was mentioned by name at least 30 times if I kept track of it right.
GO suggestions went from Lions as the obvious one, to Gemsbok, wildebeest and Kudu then someone mentioned Sable too
I should have been there to tell people about The G1 elephant
Yeah about that, I want a GO leopard.
Just to make the grinders suffer
Do like 12 on a map, all singles
Just really bring out the screams
Like tigers but if you’re on multiplayer they don’t attack one person, they go person to person.
A leopard jumps on top of you then jumps from you onto your buddy and then back on to you. How cool would that mechanic be
I legitimately cannot wait for leopards and plains game. What im dying for is tree mechanics, catch a big tom sitting on a limb and trying to angle the perfect shot without spooking him.
And that could be applied to cougars too, snow leopards as well
Definitely for cougars and jaguars(when they get added) but I didn’t think snow leopards hunt in trees. I thought they lived to high up in the mountains for that
Okay maybe not trees exactly for snow leopards but they do climb rocks and cliffs and lay down the same way as African leopards do.
Besides, it'd be awesome to see a leopard up on a kopje too
Hunting a leopard on a kopje sounds so cool(both in game and irl)
I actually planned to hunt a leopard with a longbow until my back injury, now im hoping to put a .30-30 to work on it
Question, on blind&bait or with hounds?
I wanted to do blind and bait, be as selective as I could
But i really could see running hounds and an open sight lever action being a really exciting hunt
Both sound so fun
In a try and avoid getting mauled by the living chainsaw with spots kind of way
I've hunted hogs with a knife, very similar vibes
I’m very happy that the pressure we’ve applied has now given the Africa 2 campaign a self-sustaining momentum
What country? Free range?
DAY 695 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 36 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
Id rather have free range animals personally and I'm not too sure on the country, id have to find a guide willing to let me use a .30-30 for at least my first shot
I also want to say that some of my irl friends have talked about this thread too, particularly that they learned from this thread.
Mind you, they still cant agree on a rifle to go with it, but they do like the thread
I know Mozambique does offer both baited leopard hunts and leopard hunting with hounds
Bigger issue would be finding a guide who'd allow me to use the. 30-30
From what I have seen on an African Hunting forum regarding the 30-30
A lot of people underestimate it despite the fact it can bring down moose
Yep, that's the issue with it in game too, they look at numbers and decide its too weak
I think calibers for different game species can be placed in red, yellow, and green
Red: Absolutely not
Yellow: You can if you absolutely know what you're doing/don't mind some extra damage but it's not optimal
Green: Optimal af
It’s going to happen, we’ll see Africa 2.0 soon
The devs at Avalanche and EW heard our request for more Africa based maps and i think it will happen much sooner but when is the question
that would work well
If africa is the next map which i hope the question is when is the next announcement for the next reserve?
I would expect an announcement no sooner than June maybe late May, but you never know.
If anyone’s heard as to what reserve is next, if anyone does know they’re probably not allowed to disclose yet, I would imagine.
I like this idea a lot
That would allow me to shoot roe deer with the 22. H or foxes with the solokin so yes this would be great
DAY 696 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 37 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
Putting the. 470 to the test here
Found an open hunting structure! 😯
Comes with drinks, Lol
Mmmm legally distinctly different from Fanta Fanta….Mmmmmm tastes like made in china
They don't import that crap, they mix the leftovers from handful of different brands and put them into one can with vague labeling
With having played the new map for a few hours I can confidently say that around ≈70% are completely devoid of trees and open. I am impressed with EW and I believe that this working out as well as it does can open the path to having wide open spaces for plains game on an africa map and especially with basically the exact same amount of elevation changes easily an Arctic or central Asian reserve. I am not entirely sure how well it would work in completely open savannah tho that is more flat as well.
My honest opinion of the new map is.
It's kind of good but the red deer didn't really need an update
and i feel that they missed an opportunity by not choosing Africa
I suspect that they chose areas with a large number of repeat species like Scotland and Alberta (🇨🇦 ) as they are putting together a bunch of new animal models and stuff for a year of Africa, I am only guessing but I hope I am guessing correctly
The last three maps have been missed opportunities to have Africa 2.0
Alberta is better than Scotland let's be honest
But when they did Sundarpatan (which was the last good map in my opinion)they remastered Water Buffalo, Blackbuck and added a ton of species like Muntjac and Tigers. Alberta was just a remaster but they added species like Beaver, Wood Bison and Snow Goose. Swalzien and Scotland were just boring maps and i feel like Europe in general is just boring. North America is much better than Europe because of the different biomes but Africa and Asia are the ones we need badly
And Africa 2.0 maps would be an instant success even Asian maps too (Sundarpatan is the proof)
South American Maps would also be quite successful and well received if a new one released, but Africa First
How many months there was? between the release of Alberta and the release of Scotland
I sincerely hope this means 2026 is the year of the leopard for sure.
We've covered all the biomes in Europe and America more than (barring a winter themed Norwegian map which is probably now something I cursed us with) that we have nowhere to but back to Africa.
At the moment Africa is by far the largest open space on the reserve map so they cant ignore it for much longer now.
At the absolute minimum they have to do a plains game map. Something that plays well with the new skeletons added with Sundarpatan and covering an area we haven't seen. Scotland manages to do open spaces fairly well so hopefully that'll mean a true Savanna map, or at least low scrub forest
South Africa has plenty of biomes
Botswana has the Okavango Swamp
Rhodesia has rolling kopjes and forest-grasslands
Zambia is full of swamps
Namibia has the desert
If they do a plains game focused map, I’m really hoping it’s Cameroon and they cover both jungle and savanna with it
Can you imagine starting up north of the map in the savanna looking for lord derby eland & western roan and then slowly head down south into the Congo looking for bongo & sitatunga
Baboons, Red river hogs, giant forest hogs, waterbuck, kob, hartebeest, reedbuck, bushbuck and plenty of different tiny’s roaming all around
Savanna buffalo, a newly remodeled lion, dwarf buffalo, and forest elephants
Man, what a map that would be!
Ah man…I just found a bongo hunt for 36,600😱(still crazy expensive, but most bongo hunts start at 40k)
If I had that kind of money, oh man…I would probably do it
I highly suggest you type Africa into the search bar, there's literally dozens of threads of map ideas and people begging for another reserve to explore.
EW has got to take notice and with more people than ever calling for Africa they have to know its going to be insanely popular
I think they do realize that African ideas are getting more popular and trendy since
I still think the best approach would be an African themed weapon and skin pack, then a plains game reserve leopards, hyenas, and a handful of plains game that somewhat play off Sundarpatan's new skeletons, a new lodge with very large displays
Then a map with at least 3 of the big five aside from regular animals
At least 6 maps
1 is like the Serengeti
2 is like real South Africa
3 Is the Congo Jungle
4 Okavango Swamp
5 West Africa
6 Kalahari
Also wouldn't mind a full teardown and rework of Vurhonga tbh
A rework for Vurhonga and parque Fernando would be insanely cool
Parque definitely needs some love right now. Only map native species is the duck…just a duck😞. Most of the animals on it doesn’t even make any sense for parque.
Parque really isn't my favorite map but they might change that with a good rework
Even If they just added capybara and Pere David deer, it would become a lot more popular for players
It might be better without the noise bug, I just haven't tried it in a year or so
#1448169387302326414
Might be ever so slightly Africa inspired
I have the same thought, tho honestly I did not like askiy at all much and I do really enjoy the hunting on this map which I nice with having the third eu/America map in a row
im neutral about askiy its very dense and hilly for my liking and though torr has some dense areas it balances out nicely with wide open plains and i love that
Unpopular opinion but Ethiopia is REAL high for me on that list
I only give Askiy a bit of a pass because I live in the Canadian province it is set in. Should a Canadian Arctic map come around Askiy might get left in the dust
The only reason I enter that map is waterfowl and occasionally trying for a dusky grouse trophy. A map isn't only defined by roster and landscape, if the gameplay sucks a cool animal can't help.
I might have to disagree with the point about most of the animals on Parque not making sense and only because Argentina is sort of known for big game hunting precisely because of the introduced species with the only animals not making making sense are Peccary (because Parque is set in the Patagonia region of Argentina and Peccary don't live that far south) and Mule Deer (They were not introduced in that area and its very likely they no longer live in Argentina).
And the type of water buffalo
I will give it to you though, you are right. red stag, fallow deer, blackbuck, and axis deer are pretty popular hunts in Argentina(and I thought panthers were more of a Chilean thing, but I guess they can be there)
But…all those animals can be found on different and better maps, so parque is in real need of some new species
And this is just a selection of species that would work (in order): Pere David's Deer (Would make for a good Mule Deer replacement, only really hunted in Texas and Argentina), Guanaco (Can be hunted in the southernmost parts of Argentina), Culpeo Fox (A large fox), Southern Viscacha (Would work like European Rabbits), Elegant Crested Tinamou and Eared Dove (Upland Birds), Upland Goose (Not currently hunted in Argentina irl but would work, males are white), Greater Rhea (Larger bird) and Chiloe Wigeon (Another duck species)
Ashy-headed goose would be the other goose option
Africa will still come
We’ve managed to make them super aware of the Africa appetite. We get mentioned by name on every stream multiple times. There’s even a whole q&a response to “is Africa 2.0 coming?”
I do like the red deer Update over the old update personally I like to hunt them much more but what actually did need an update was there true racks, they look like giant farm deer, I'd much rather have what is now a lvl 7 (some of them) as a diamond and subspeciation
Make more Noice!
/j means joking :)
I am well aware, they have talked about Africa 2.0 many times
DAY 697 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 38 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
They keep trying to push how it won’t be Africa 2.0. But because they’ve taken so long to touch anything African related, everyone just ends up calling it Africa 2.0
Africa 2.0 doesn’t mean Vurhonga 2.0 it means a second African map
Yes, I'd say it's extremely likely it's either latin America or Asia, unless they pull Australia 2.0 but if say 70% chance that It is something central Asian or mongolia
Lets hope Avalanche and EW start doing African things in 2026
I used to live in Alberta but i think that we should prioritize African maps instead
In this I agree, a year of Africa is a must
All of the Vurhonga animals are in a urgent need of remodeling
Real Life lion vs Vurhonga Lion
It's actually so laughable
I think given how muddled the lion model is we will see it in the next Africa map alongside a remodel, potentially even a rework using the tiger stalking behaviours.
Even the Springbok needs a remodel
Sprinbok in real life is a bit larger and a bit more muscular
Wouldn't they be more vocal though?
Id like to see a mechanic where maybe 1 out of seven lions will charge directly at the sound of the gunshots too
Lions in real life are social animals often living in groups
They are very vocal at night, if that could be added in it would be very realistic
For those of you with a serious interest of African game hunting, this is a must have.
Think I just ordered a newer print of this lol
Ashamed i pinched mine from my camp, it had been sitting there for a year untouched.
It’s quite battered and sun damaged.
I mean, if it sat around for a year with no interest and getting damaged then I doubt anyone would actually mind.
No one’s asked where it is yet, so I agree!
Honestly it was probably there so long either everyone with a vague interest already finished reading it or they just took it as part of the scenery
Which ruger No 1 would be better
Classic style or full stock?
Classic
#1448169387302326414
Added your favorite lol
What I reckon EW could and should do is essentially take the mechanic that wolves have where they howl but it's not an investigable audio and transfer that over to Lion, jackal, hyena, leopard and whatever other animals it could be applicable to. It would just need a fine balance so that it's not overwhelming but also so that it's frequent enough
DAY 698 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 39 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
Who ghost pinged me?! Keep your black magic to yourselves
I think its because scam/spam protections from the bot delete anything that pings more than 3 users so if someone tried to multiping it prolly got yeeted
This is the 9th time in 2 days for me
oof
Very!
Well I don't know what has been happening to you in the past but that might have actually ended up being me cause I replied to a message of yours but then I thought maybe it wasn't too good to keep around so I apologize for that.
Well I know the other 8 weren't you so I don't mind just one lol
It was me saying that I had read this message as "Heavy Hitlers weapon pack" 💀
Well that's not good. . .
Most certainly not but I've been doing alot of things on history for my schoolwork and free time about WWII and whatnot so I accidentally read that instead.
Tends to happen
But anyway I figured it'd be nice to finally have another double rifle in game, one with a wider range of use at least
I got like ghost pinged 5 times this week or so 😭
Halloween was two months ago, its time to stop ghost pings
DAY 699 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 40 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
Lets hope 2026 is the year of AFRICA!
20 for the start
African Bush Elephant
Hippopotamus
White Rhinoceros
Cape Buffalo (Remaster)
Southern Giraffe
Lion (Remaster)
Nile Crocodile
Common Eland
Sable Antelope
Nyala
African Leopard
Chapman's Zebra
Blue Wildebeest (Remaster)
Spotted Hyena
Greater Kudu
Impala
Warthog (Remaster)
Chacma Baboon
Helmeted Guineafowl
Common Duiker
Add Later if you wanna
Waterbuck
Bushbuck
Brown Hyena
Black Rhinoceros
Roan
Tsessebe
Bushpig
Reedbuck
Crested Francolin
Egyptian Goose
Swainson’s Spurfowl
Steenbok
Cape Porcupine
Yellow-billed duck
Vervet Monkey
Klipspringer
Black-backed jackal
African comb duck
Dassie (Rock Hyrax)
I'd save springbok for a Kalahari map
This map is more bushveld
So...
Kalahari map •
Bushveld map (this one)
A SA small game map •
Cameroon rainforest/savannah map
East African map in Ethiopia or Tanzania
• one of these will permanently replace Vurhonga Savannah in an ideal world
I think I made a West African Reserve that features a lot of small game, birds and Warthog Great Ones, I will link it in when I find it
I feel like Cameroon covers West Africa
Cameroon is considered part of Central Africa more so and a reserve set there would focus more on big game species, also found my West African Reserve: https://discord.com/channels/393040947006406657/1363751758123241503 (I forgot I chose to have it set in Senegal since a lot of bird hunting happens there and some people have even hunted some big game apparently)
That's actually really nice
Also, do you think Vurhonga should be replaced entirely?
Because like, Vurhonga is such wasted potential for the first African map with no real geographic cohesion
I think Vurhonga has a place in the game considering it is the first African Reserve, it just needs a lot of work to make it more geographically and ecologically cohesive and to take into consideration that its supposedly set in Botswana I would settle for making the changes needed to be based on the Kalahari and Bushveld areas of Southern Botswana
I'd change it to be Kalahari based and have it set in Namibia
My ideal Namibian Reserve would either be a Kalahari Plains Game Reserve that also features Leopard, Hyena (Spotted preferred but Brown would be ok), Cheetah and maybe even a few Rhinos alongside some small game and birds or a Dangerous 7 Reserve (Africa 2.0) that includes a region based on the Caprivi
I think Kalahari would be best as the open landscape will contrast with the bushveld
DAY 700 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 41 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES 🥳 🥳 🥳
Ethiopia mountains and lowlands 🙏🙏🙏
I’m not too fussed if we don’t get elephants on the next Africa map. But they have to come eventually.
Lot of appetite for Kudu, Impala, Hippo, Leopard etc.
I think there’s a good lineup there to have along with potentially rhino as well.
Spreads out the big five over 3 diffrent maps
By the way Phacochère is the french word for warthog
I know
intense grumbling
? Panorama/Museum style lodge?
Yes
That's a nice idea, has been suggested a ton. Would be amazing.
Keep up the good work! Make them KNOW we want Africa 2.0!
Yes they already know, but they need to be reminded all the time
It was a very simple question, no need for holy water and a cross shaped hammer
They are just scared whenever someone mentions anything African
OoOoOo spooky leopards mentioned
Well, yeah tbey are actually terrifying but you get what I ment
The devs
they're not. i was having a convo with vivi and she said they don't want to do africa until they can do it right because of the very high demand for it; if they do something wrong it'll get hated on a lot and they don't want that, they want it to meet expectations
. . . so they're scared of doing Africa 2.0 wrong.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again
If they didn’t take so long to touch Africa again there wouldn’t be this giant expectation for it.
they just want it to be good :) theyre well aware of the demand but dont want to have a map that is not to the quality the playerbase has been hoping for
I think part of the reason they havent done anything africa in so long is because of it, yes there is a giant expectation but there has been a giant expectation for years - i remember when i first started playing in 2021 there was big demand for it and now it's even bigger
Well I guess waiting six years to do anything Africa related wasn't the best plan, its just stacking up expectations.
If they had done a couple maps for plains animals in between thers wouldn't be so much demand. The expectations would be there but that's just how things work now.
Honestly if they'd fixed vurhonga up a bit at time it would have helped as well, by at least showing tbey do want to do as well as possible
yeah, i agree, but it seems theyre doing remodels with new maps that contain those animals
i do want remodels outside of this method though, like you said, not all the remodels have to be on a new map, they can bring life back into old ones
Exactly, if they could have made a plains game map there wouldn’t be a massive expectation for an African map with all of the big five and 20 or so species of plains game on it
instead they decided it was going to be the last map, but when they changed their minds they changed it to we’ll do it when we can do it just right(which is an impossible standard they put on themselves)
If they had delivered Greater Kudu after talking about backfill that would have been huge as well
"When we can do it right " just sounds like a long way of saying No, it won't happen
Yep, an impossible standard they put on themselves. That’s exactly what it is
I’m gonna make a post about that now
I'll watch for it
this is exactly why they don't want to do it, you're being petty at this point. give them time.
They've had 5 years, red deer have been redone twice and they're pouring tons of time and resources in great ones, if they would have taken even just a little time and effort to redo at least one or two animals on vurhonga then maybe.
But right now it looks like the genuinely do not care
yes, but being aggressive over every single thing they say won't change that there's no point in it
They want more boring European DLCS
Its not even aggression, its disappointment.
Five years. We've been waiting and asking for five years. They've remodeled a dozen different animals and backfilled several. They've released 6 maps with mallards.
They haven't even remodeled a single animal from Vurhonga.
What they don't get is that Africa as a whole is special
and there's something unique about it
Every European map sucked except revontuli.
Africa is so much better than Europe
@patent agate It worries me because i hope that 2026 won't be European DLCs
Thing is, Africa alone has well over a hundred separate species that could be hunted in dozens of places. The Devs are just reusing the same animals in different locations, that for the most part don't feel so different
And that isn't counting the larger animals like hippos, rhinos and elephants
One big example is the Lion, Waterbuck and the Kob
they have several varieties
Like the Defassa Waterbuck, The White Eared Kob and the West African Lion
That's part of the European problem and at some extent North America
That would be a good reason to make the next couple North American Reserves set in Canada (Northwest Territories and British Columbia) and Southern Mexico (Disclaimer: I would hope they come out after we get at least 2 African Maps and a South American map)
Forget Canada, Africa is more essential and if can pressure them to release africa would be awesome
Its why I added my disclaimer, there is no doubt we need Africa 100%
ah yes. pressure them
great idea for a playerbase to force a dev team to do something
Yes We want African Maps
I was being sarcastic? you'll get them if you be patient
"we've been patient"
devs only recently caught wind of this thread. fry about it.
I was saying that even tho our request of new african maps might not realize itself now at least they know that we want more africa based maps
oh ok
Funny, the old threads were deleted but even before this one there were more than a dozen threads for Africa
Well that's weird
What is this albino 😭
Like i never seen any animal that looks quiete like it
Like what is this
He’s just a little nervous about the Apex predator in the corner. 🤠
Can you really put them on those or is this from the Bug that was present some time ago ?
Oh, this lodge pre-dates the fix of the place anywhere glitch or whatever it’s called.
If I move this, I won’t be able to return it I think.
Oh thats sad. I'd rather have the animals be a bit to big for the mount then having Tons of wasted space on the Plaque (looking at you whitetail and fallow)
Could not have said it better myself, 100%
Its still hilarius that tahr fits the smallest Plaque while many species who would be still a bit to small for the second smallest Plaque only fit on the large and extra large Plaque
🐐 Tahr any kind of goat should be able to mount on anything including the branch. 😆
for the rock mount, one should be able to put like four of those bad boys on there.
Goat climbers 🫡
The branch one is also a bit of letdown. Thought i could put Turkey a smaller base Plaque then the large one but suprise, that doesent works. I have to put the branch mount on the large Plaque in order to place a Turkey on it. Cant even use it on the smallest Plaque, so basicly your Sterling yourself mounts when using it in the spring creek. It would only make sense for goose cause that the smallest Plaque you can put them on
Foxes and pheasant i can put on the smallest plaques of which the spring creek has to many in relation to big mounts...
I wonder if the easiest way to go forward with any new lodges, would be to create everything the largest wall plaque available and include the ability to size down the plaque to accommodate any desired species for display.. 🤔
If you wanted to get fancy: As you size down other locations may become available, so you’re not stuck with a bunch of dead space.
Yeah for Christ sakes @EW, if this is your next map, please take time to cook
We'd rather have this map come later than come out
A Plains Game map (like #1449870048717050066 for example) could give them time to get Africa 2.0 right, especially if the necessary trophy lodge reworks are in-between, but that is a big maybe
DAY 701 AND 702 OF WAITING FOR AFRICA 2.0 AND DAY 42 AND 43 SINCE REACHING 2000 UPVOTES
I kinda wonder if the devs are taking this post too seriously, as they believe we actually expect all these animals in a single map. It seems weird and hard to believe tbh, but I wonder if that's what is holding them back
I wonder if they take the feedback in general seriously.
Outside of the ones they make, they don’t really show up to often in the feedback
