#AFRICA BIG FIVE (Africa 2.0 + Class 10 Weapons) 🇿🇼🇿🇦

Posted the thing
Idk if I covered everything but I'm not playing so I can't check the list. Might try to do a caliber version later
5000th comment in this thread so
EW PLEASE GIVE US A .375 OR A .416 SOON
That is all
5000th comment 👆👆
Are you kidding?! Why wasn't it something about Africa and not my stupid idea?
Massive mane on that guy
Now that snow leopards are a thing. What do we think about Hirola (aka, hunters heartabeest)
Is it a potential animal for the game?
Honestly didn't know this thing existed but I'm all for it. Realistically speaking, rare animals being brought into this game would get a flood of interest and might even make a small difference in their conservation
Some context for you
They used to have a bigger home range but now they exist only in a small herd of around 500 in Somalia.
I'll have to do some reading then, seems like a very interesting animal
Please do. And spread the word of this animal
Here's something I found last night, .375 JDJ.
It's a powerful round, has a really solid reputation for big game but the thing is, it's usually a single shot pistol. I was wondering, if you guys think that would be okay okay would you rather have it in a rifle? Personally, I'd love more single shot weapons. Especially a high wall or rolling block style rifle but pistols are awesome too
Each shot ticks -5 health
Someone's offered me one if I wanted to by it, I'm not sure but also extremely interested
It depends on how much the guy is asking for
My .480 ruger and the ammo
Tempting, that’s for sure
My .480 is the old model, I got it from a family friend when I was like 16
This is closer to what he's got, nothing too special in looks
Oh dang
How much do you like your 480?
This MUST happen, although if I'm going to be honest, I hope it's the last map they ever release. If done right Africa 2.0 deserves to be CotW's grand finale so to speak
There's no way 2 maps are enough to showcase how amazing Africa really is
They could easily make 3 more African maps
I like it, I also like my wrist. But he told me he wouldn't trade for anything else
.50 cal bolt action single shot handgun (class 1-9)
It’s completely your call
After some research it seems like no one is really selling the 375jdj, so it might make for a good investment in a long term. But it depends on you and your feelings towards the 480
Once again, it’s completely your call
True, but I'm talking about more along the lines of a map that would give us a lot of these animals. As exciting as a Congo map for example would be, i doubt it would have the same amount of buzz as Zimbabwae.
No it would pretty much be a handload only weapon and there not really a commercial cartridge. My .480 is great but pretty much in the same boat. The guy is a collector so I know it's been rarely used, I might take awhile to decide
Take your time, no need to jump at it
We have cape buffalo and lions on one map already, the next could be rhino and leopard with plains game making up the majority of animals. Then a map with elephant and hippos focused on wetlands. They have plenty of options and no rule demanding that the big five be concentrated on a single map.
Honestly, they could make a fourth map twice the size of all the others with all the big five as the last map for the game. I'd be more than willing to pay for it
Not to mention the untapped potential in Cameroon, Ethiopia,Zambia, Namibia, and Tanzania
EW has been sleeping on Africa for far too long now
They've go that weird
"Africa 2 must be the end of the game" mentality
I think there just allergic to money and only now have considered getting a resistance
If it's down to one map a year then fine, as long as it's a good map I'm fine paying a little more for it, if there are gonna be less weapon packs, fine
As long as it's good then I'm fine with whatever they want to try.
Just to be totally honest, sundarpatan didn't hit for me. The animals ans environment are really cool and all but there's too many buildings, it doesn't feel like the wilderness enough
Art by Alan M Hunt
He captures that leopard perfectly
Haven’t spoken much in this forum, but yeah Africa has a LOT of potential for COTW (and hunting games in general)
I’m happy that Ultimate Hunting is mostly going all-out with their Africa map though
Honestly need to pitch in my own ideas in this forum. Been seeing the things yall have been posting here and it’s all really great ideas
Deep in the thick stuff. Most artists paint leopard on a tree looking over a hill, basking in the light…but he has the leopard in the thick bush
That’s what I like about it
Do it, go for it
These pics are super dope fellas.
Do you know the tracks? Looks like a large antelope
In New Mexico?
Yeah they live there. Introduced
I knew that I've looked at hunts before I just didn't know if he meant someplace else where there may be Gemsbok that I wasn't aware of
Yeah, technically could go to the Kerr WMA in Texas but they have way more restrictions on the animals and methods
Feel like doing some taxidermy related polls
For Greater Kudu
Shoulder mount(👍) or Full body mount(👆)
I want shoulder, but specifically because I want pedestal mounts
You could say that again
Lodges need a big update before more Africa maps come out, they have to look incredible for these things
I think sasika already looks fine for Africa 2
It feels like a resort more than a lodge tho
I want customizable lodges! 🇿🇼🇿🇲🇿🇦🇲🇿🇳🇦 give me Africa 2.0!!! 🐘 🦁 🐆 🐃 🐊
Saseka could use some rearranging when elephant’s are a thing. But spring Creek definitely needs a TLC
TLC?
A tlc is like a remake
Technical meaning is tender love and care, just tlc is easier
Few big spots for elephants in sasika, might just be that you can only put them on specific places
Yeah, you shouldn’t have a lodge full of elephants, limited mounting options helps.
Which makes sense
A good spot would be the wall above that room at the end. If they filled it up, that would be good
So where it says the hunter call of the wild, that’s the spot
Yeah plenty of space, lucky the roof is sasika is very high
I love how spacious it is compared to spring creek.
Saseka perfect for when there’s giraffes
Exactly! 🦒
Spring creek feels so cramped compared. You can barely move around the trophies, the ceiling is too close to the floor. The only spacious part about spring creek is the main entrance…and even then
Ethiopian Highlands(👍) or The Zambezi(👆)
It’s a close call for me, but overall The Zambezi has my favorite species.
No gun displays either
Nor XXL platforms
Hello what about this animals: Wild dogs
Cheetahs
Golden Jackals
Gazelle
Caracal
Servals
All doable
At least now that EW has finally realised that no one gives a kak about being able to shoot some endangered species. It’s as if it’s a computer game and not real life (shocking revaluation to some)
We want to shoot pixelated animal😋
I gotta say this,
African leopards should be just as rare on their map as snow leopards but I want them to be aggressive if you get close
They are very different subspecies, one is more common in visual appearance than the other. I think they should be limited like you said but more similar to tigers with 16 instead of 8-9 with snow leopards.
You are lucky to even spot one on a hunt (excluding canned hunts❌).
I like the idea of leopard being illusive like snow leopard, but with numbers like tigers.
Yes, I know they are different. I said nothing about numbers either. They should still be extremely difficult to hunt and hard to come across. I don't want it to be a great one and all that mess.
I want them to be just as challenging as snow leopards, nothing more or less
They should be challenging but they are more common than snow leopards they also have a bigger range for example one lives in mountains/cliffs the other has a whole Savannah plains. They still should be elusive which I agree with you.
It would be really cool if there feed zones were in the tree when you went looking for them idk how that would be implemented.
Yeah I’d love to see tree based feed zones
Sitting in a blind looking at the the trees, and then this happens
EW…. please give leopard tree mechanics, we beg you
oooo a carcass of an impala in a tree would be awesome
Make this happen we beg of you!
Would hangable baits be too much of an ask do you think? I wouldn't mind having the option to set one up near a feed zone and hunting from a blind
Not sure, would depend on if the devs could model it well, we have tree stands already so the trees have been tampered with in the past, anything is possible
It'd be a really interesting way to go about it, and they already have meat piles as the predator feed zones
I think. They could do it, but they would probably have it be hard set for all maps.
Either way a few morons on this discord will complain about things being “too easy, too grid able”
Wouldn't it be like any other call or scent? It'd be one location not map wide
Maybe but I don’t know how their programming with trees works, I guess that only certain trees can support tree stands so the same
Yeah, I think that's reasonable tho, you'd have to be really selective about the tree irl so why not in game? I'd also like if it had a relatively low attraction chance, just to show how difficult leopards would be
I think that they don’t need to reduce the numbers of any animals, just make some more skittish than others.
I can tell you irl For every leopard you see, 20 more have seen you
How about numbers? How many would you want to see on the map?
I don’t want to throw out a number, as I have no idea how large the map would be, and also we have no idea what the foliage density would look like.
However 12 seems like a good number to me
I was thinking about that, if we have no idea how the map looks we can really pin down a number but 10 to 14 sounds good
Ok I know this will never happen but what if the rifle or weapon is a barret 50 cal for class 9 to 10
.50BMG isn’t a good hunting caliber. I’d rather they work on literally anything else other than figuring out how to balance .50BMG because it doesn’t kill large quadrapedal mammals very well.
That’s why I knew it would never happen
No don’t be silly
Thoughts on a single shot class 9 only? Allows scopes but you only get one shot and the recoil is massive.
.458 Lott?
Perfection
Wouldn’t mind it, although .458 Lott would preferably be 8-10 because of its popularity among Alaskan guides (Imo)
Well if we’re talking safari guns(go check out the Dagga boy Blaster pack)
The Winchester 1895 in 405
I'm about to post a base game caliber focused pack with the most fugly pistol that ever existed
Do it
Don't hate me
Nile crocs could also be backfilled into Vurhonga considering there are signs saying "Beware of Crocs"
Absolutely. Being and island maps crocodiles would make great additions.
That would make that "collect water samples" mission more fun too
Hippo could be a good backfill as well
So many animals could be a backfill, Vurhonga is so barren
They could cut half or 3/4 of the duck spawns to make room and make me like the map again in the process
Would be a great backfill
Plus we're getting a .375, as long as they make it good
Anything on Vurhonga
Would be good, just something at this point
Ditto
Also likes are picking up again!
Only 45 away from 900!
Super close
Nice new rhino @mighty rampart
One thing that might not have been brought up yet is roads. I'd rather not see an African map looking like a motocross track.
Dankie
True that. Mostly dirt roads, and whatever paved roads there are should be riddled with pot holes….the true African experience
Would like the map to be fenced in fully. Give it that SA vibe.
Maybe a few missions where you do a fence patrol and look for cut wire etc
That is what I was doing all day long lol. Except you gotta fight poachers and I gotta stop douchbags from cutting my fence and riding atvs through our just planted crops
I think with this map cape buffalo need to be remodeled
Got a question, any of y'all tried hunting cape buffalo with a 10ga?
It’s pretty fun, not very good
The brass shells or plastic?
Brass mainly
Had a bit of an odd thought. If we get the ability to change the caliber of the weapons, I wanna change the Gamekeeper 12ga to a 10ga and do more slug hunting
For IRL
I had a PH who talked about it
I like the Gamekeeper 12ga, it's the only fancy gun in the game I care for, but slug hunting with it and the scope is a lot of fun.
Close to 900
Just 40 away
Question for everyone. What is your personal favorite African animal?
Only qualification is that it’s from Africa.
Tough question , probably either Greater Kudu, Hippopotamus, one of the many Zebra species, eland or Atlas Bear.
For me it’s the Lord Derby Eland
Black antelope, eland, blue and black wildebeest and Kori bustard
that's it for those who dont know what the black antelope is
Sable is it’s name
yes I know, it is also called black antelope or another name impossible to translate into French
Roan, blue duiker, and hippo in that order
Check these out, I found some vintage ammo boxes from Weatherby online
Leopards for me, or white rhinos
Both excellent choices
Have you been saving some of the art I’ve been using for the polls?
Yeah, some I'm keeping until I can get a print of. You said it was Cynthie Fisher right?
Yep
I already ordered two but I'm trying to find a good place to have the others blown up to the size I want
Which ones did you get?
One was a Roan antelope and the other was an elk print from her website
Very nice
Yeah, I got some plain walls and decided to do wildlife art
Well, more like I showed my wife and she decided on wildlife art
That’s marriage
Lol I thought I'd have to argue for it tho
Oh no….that means she liked them
Prepare yourself for a more paintings in the house
Yeah, considering building a shack in the woods to hang out in, for hunting season of course
Hyena or painted dogs/African wild dogs oh and Nile crocodile because it's nature's ultimate tax collector
I really wish we'd gotten more animal names in African languages or at the very least they were in the codex, it was cool to hear the original name for the animal.
A direct translation would have been cool too
Humans
African Bush Elephant
Wild dogs always underrated
Rhinoceros are just impressive, not just behavioral but the way they’re built and their presence. 🙂
Tactical Combat Battle unicorns
Watching rhinos in the wild is a mesmerizing thing
90% hunting success rate most successful terrestrial carnivore and they let the young and old and sick in the pack eat first
They’re Awsome
All 400k individuals are on the verge of extinction?
African Bush Elephants have a 400k+ population
I don't think so?
That’s a lot. And especially for a 6 ton, highly intelligent semi truck with an arm for a nose….
It’s really not…
Hello all I haven't really been online alot and I've never bothered to check discord but anyway Hello hope everyone's day is well
Well you have to consider many factors when judging when a animal has a low, medium, or high population I guess you have go conside the range of which a particular species or subspecies inhabits then whether they live in groups, pairs or alone and then things maybe like hunting or poaching or human encroachment or really anything that affects the natural landscapes and its inhabitants I don't know how scientists or people judge a population but that's how I imagine it
Oof you gonna kill me with a headache but I like the suffering😜
Welcome back
Thanks nice profile pic btw
That’s massive for an animal that weighs 6.5 tons….
Afterwards, if elephants are in danger of extinction, something like that is especially the case in the face of the many problems they can encounter, diseases, poaching, disappearance of their habitats etc... But if there are many that they have an immense distribution compared to the Bengal tigers and also are monitored etc... So sorry but despite all the problems that these animals encounter and being more than 400,000, that means that they still manage to survive. Afterwards I don't know if the population is stagnating, or if it is increasing etc... because that also affects the classification of species.
Elephant populations are out of control
All right
And there's no easy way to move one elephant, much less a herd of 10. Hunting, as bad as it sounds, makes more sense than trying to tranq and transport like you would plains game size animals
The cost of moving large game is also extortionate
I'd be afraid to see the bill for one rhino, much less an elephant
The logistics alone would be too expensive for a lot of countries.
Helicopters, tranqs, around the clock vets, security, transportation, etc. not to mention the stress would probably kill a lot of elephants.
Hunting is far more sustainable. Someone pays 80k to hunt one elephant, locals get free food, governments can use the taxes from those hunts to fund other conservation projects. Hunting just makes far more sense
That's not counting the amount of damage a herd of 6ton herbivores could do to crops and vegetation, potentially destroying habitat for other animals and pushing them into more dangerous areas
You should have seen all the polls I made
I got curious and googled it, African bush elephants eat 350 pounds of vegetation every day. Figure that by 400k population and tell me what country in Africa could sustain a herd that size without destroying its ecosystem and crops
I have seen all of your polls not really hard just the one with what are your favourite African Wildlife species
Reminder for Africa big five supporters to vote for a Wooden stock on the upcoming 375. H&H, coming in the next weapon pack.
🇿🇼🇿🇦🇧🇼🇰🇪🇿🇲
Well it looks like the wooden stock is winning.
Thank god,
Everyday I wait for an Africa map and the horse DLC!! Cool to see this suggestion getting near to 900 likes! I forget when I initially liked it what number it was at
I really hope one day we can see an Africa 3.0 and 4.0, too much you’re able to do in it with just one more! I see them in my dreams 😂
Looking even better
No clue why anyone would vote for the green one, it’s a bolt action? Whatever your shooting at will be long gone by the time you fire a 4th round let alone a 5th
Mentally greedy people
-dramatic ik but that’s me
Honestly, I'd have voted for a wood stocked gun with just 3 rounds in the mag. I hope the reload animations are like the malmer and Olsson, I'd be disappointed to see a .375 clip fed
Which stock style would you prefer?
Both thanks, here ya go! 💵
I'm really happy with the .375, don't care about the blk, and idk much about the .450, I need to do some research
Very nice!
Hounds or in a blind?
Details…we need details
Hounds? As in chasing/baying a cat on the ground or up a tree? You can hunt leopards like that?
Neither I’m no coward, on foot
The place has a fairly dense leopard population, we will throw a few baits down and walk from one to the other for a couple of nights till we find something
Idk if you've ever had the chance to chase something with dogs, but it's not for cowards
Like a cougar hunt
Hunting with hounds is also popular for bushpigs
I saw one video of a leopard hunt with hounds and in the video the leopard jumped out of a tree and charged straight towards the client
I'm going out for cougar this year, have my tags already. Never huntes cougars before but I have hunter black bears. 4 of them, 3 bayed up in massive thickets and cane breaks, shots like 5 yards and less. Dogs barking, men yelling, bear roaring, failing light, it's the most psychotic thing ever in the moment but you're absolutely burning with adrenaline in the moment.
Now imagine that…but with a leopard
I couldn't use my .30-30 but it sounds like a blast
For me I’ve always got to be on foot when I shoot stuff, although I’ve done mounted hunting with dogs before
If I’m not putting myself in some form of unjustifiable danger then I’m not doing right, I’m a classic sportsman at heart
The last bear I killed on a hound hunt was 3 feet from my rifles muzzle trying to kill the dog I was holding back.
To be clear, I was knee deep in the same creek as the animals and blood hit my face when I fired. Hound hunting is not safe but it's a kind of madness you can enjoy
It sounds insane, but that's not the craziest thing I've seen on a hound hunt. I've been out for feral pigs where the skinning knife was the pig killer
Teddy Roosevelt wrote about how some cowboys would wrangle grizzly bears.
Your comment reminded of that
Tbh, I did not knife the boar. I've already had my kneecap split by a pig it will not happen a second time
Only a flesh wound
Clean break, first day of rifle season. Hated pigs ever since
Close to our 900 goal!
Amazing to see our community thriving still.
What's your go to caliber for plains animals? Wildebeest and smaller
Maybe not for wilderbeast but I’m a big fan of 308.
I'm putting together a single shot .30-06 with a spare barrel for my plains game hunt. I plan to use a 200gr bullet, what do you think?
Sounds like it should cover most of the game you’ll see.
Give it a try out and see what you think, I always go for something slightly bigger than I need to make sure that I don’t have to chase it around in the bush and let anything suffer
Well, I'm going off a load a friend of mine made for his rifle back in Tennessee. We hunted together and I saw first hand a 400 something pound bear get knocked off its feet. Pretty sure it'll be fine but I'm wondering if I need to go lighter for impala and gazelle
Defiantly go lighter for impala
My wife and I are doing impala, wildebeest, gazelle and warthog. I was thinking the 06 would be good on the wildebeest but idk how light I should go for the smaller animals
Best ask your outfitter on what they recommend
I did, but he said to just bring a .300 win mag for everything
The more I read about them the more impala and gazelle remind me of yearling whitetail deer, light build, about a hundred pounds or a bit more, and thin skinned
That’s what I learned with my wildebeest
From experience, go with something bigger for wildebeest. They are stupidly tough animals
For Africa 2.0 if still a discussion should maybe have weapon pack to go with it like a .22 10gauge and maybe a more powerful rifle and should come with a thermal scope and zebra giraffe print maybe even a carbon fiber paint for weapons
Maybe even a like a budget rifle you get from missions like a .243 that’s duck taped together
Why?
I'm not against the map awarding a rifle after some missions but don't tell me about it before the map drops. Maybe a battered .303 Enfield with some tribal patterns/decorations or something, a relic from ww2 or something ya know?
Other than that, I'd rather get something like a .416 bolt action or a double in .458 as the map weapon. Idek what I would want in a weapon pack for A2.0
All sound good
Honestly, I loved finding Grankin's shotgun on Medved. It wasn't the reserve weapon, there was no mention of it until you found it, and that's exactly why I like it so much.
Te Awaroa did have a found weapon, but you could see it in the store first, Cuatro Colinas has a weapon but it's way too weak and locked behind a mission that can be a nightmare if you don't get lucky spawns and no other map tried it.
I'd really live to see maps have a rifle, bow, or shotgun, whatever makes sense, aside from the reserve flagship weapon just hidden somewhere in the map to be found. It's a unique way to just add a little more reward for exploring what the devs have built

Great ideas; would love to see something like this come to the game
Has anybody posited the idea of more heavy bolt action rifles for big game animals? I can think of a few that could definitely be warranted with the Big 5 like .416 and .460 Weatherby Magnum or some of the bigger straightcase express cartridges like .600 NE
Agreed, it's the world's largest species of antelope and the bulls can approach 6 feet at the shoulder and 2600lbs in weight; the greater kudu and nyala are also notable mentions
You should go check out The Dagga Boy Blaster pack
Thank you! I found it and followed the discussion thread!
Yeah we’ve had some good chats on here about rifles
- Was one of our favourites
Nice; I imagine you were all as elated as i was to see the wood stock option win the poll lol.
The best way to describe the 375 is
If you had one gun to take hunting around the world, the 375 is it
To quote David Petzal
"The .375 is to African hunting what the .30-06 is to American hunting, indispensable. "
Ecstatic
I went all in for that 6.5MM RAYO, it looks so hallmark, wood finish AND engravings, yes!
Plus, I had that feeling like I’d just finished a milestone. 🤠
Surprise mission-hidden and found weapons are really awesome ideas as well!
I’m still trying to get the 3 rabbits a night. For every one rabbit I see there’s 30 wolves! I’m practically tripping over wolves looking for rabbits!
I mean, yes, I still want a reserve weapon that suits it's reserve well, but
Finding one, no matter it's condition is still fun and adds another interesting bit to the map. I don't care if the stats are identical to another weapon, if we found a scratched, battered, somewhat rusty old rifle with some decorations from a previous owner, then it's going to be one of my favorites. I honestly wish, if they included something like this, that they'd say nothing at all until it hits the community
Imagine being in B.C. and you find a dilapidated snow-dusted cabin that happens to have a .35 Whelen lever-action on the mantle over the stone fireplace!
🙌
Just then a notification comes in saying that, “New an ammunition is now available in the store.”
Exactly, it would be a constant in my loadouts too
A victory for Africa
Now we just gotta pray it has good iron sights (if any of the devs read this, please keep on the path you made the iron sights for the 7mm Malmer and .308 Olsson, they're some of the best and most usable in the game)
Those are some great sights!
Fingers crossed
Hope the .300blackout is good enough for roe deer and springboks, I miss crawling the brush and hunting them at like 15 yards
Absolutely
prepare for another case of tsurugi .338 type of iron sights
Those sights are hideous and don't deserve to considered for a proper Safari rifle much less on it
they make my brain explode the moment I try to use them, absolutely horrific
Those and the ones on the .22-250 are the worst in the game, there's just a fence post on the 7mm Regent/Empress
Now that we're guaranteed a .375 in Safari rifle style, what other calibers or weapons are you guys hoping for?
900!
Woooo!
Sigma 900

900🎉🎆🎇🎉
405, 425, and 458
318
I'd love a .416, although it'd be amazing to have a big bore single shot in any of these cartridges
900
We are growing faster!
Thanks to the regulars making strong conversations on Africa 2 on this thread.
Keep up the discussion,
Big celebration when we hit 1000
🇰🇪🇩🇪🇿🇼🇷🇼🇿🇦
So, I found this and it got me thinking about the rifle sights in game. Are they mostly based on European hunting/target sights or what? They are little hard to use sometimes
Ignore the download, my phone is being stupid or I am, one or the other.
Anyway that's from Africa Hunting and it's supposedly the different type of iron sights typically used on dangerous game rifles
Big celebration? 👀
The 505 GIBBS
What ever setting we may end up getting for Africa 2.0… I hope it makes up for the lack of maneater hunts, whether it be the Black Bear on srp, the croc on Emerald Coast, or the Tigress of Sundarpatan.
Ok hear me out this vs a charging elephant
I got this thing
Skeenyee#
Jeez
How do you guys feel about leopard feed zones bring a carcass in the trees?
As it should be.
Tree mechanics should be a thing
904 UPVOTES?
Africa is a hunter's dream, no surprise it's high
Not my hunting dream, I want Kyrgyzstan map.
feel like it would be needed if Leopards got added
There's also the possibility of baits (works like a call or scent and draws the animal to one spot in it's need zone).
Bump
You don’t need to bump this post. There’s enough discussion on here that I believe there’s at least one EW employee constantly reading and taking notes(hopefully)
Don’t advertise your threads on mine thank you, you don’t see me doing it on yours, it’s good manners.
We’re here to talk about Africa only
I think that something like this would make the map stand out a bit more, any new species with unique feed zones is bound to draw allure.
I was thinking it could work similar to treestands, equipping it highlights branches or trees where it could be placed.
Now I think of it, should the bait be a consumable? Like the spike you hang it from is a one time purchase but the baits only last 2 or 3 days in game time?
Idk, what do you guys think?
Think that would work best.
I figure finding a need zone would be hard enough so leopards need a reason to be in that one spot in front of the blind, and that's one of the irl ways of hunting them so it would be cool to see in game.
Much as I hate them personally, it would also be cool to tie a photo challenge to it
Leopards are often shot with blinds, they’re too switched on to be tracked down.
We say for every 1 you see 20 others have already seen you
Had a thought, before Africa 2.0 gets here I hope we get a solid weapon rework. I don't mind leopards being taken with .30-06, .300 Mag, or .338 because they seem reasonable for it. But I really don't want to see rhino, hippos, or elephants in the same class as bison, and lions.
It just makes absolutely no sense, and from what I've read lately even .338 Lapua isn't legal for dangerous game in most places. The bullets just don't have the force needed for the really big animals like cape buffalo and larger
oh sorry my bad
I sincerely doubt anyone in that twitter thread has been to Africa, nevermind hunted there.
Undoubtedly.
So many of these groups are made up of people that outright refuse to learn or understand what hunting is and what it does.
Hunting is like gardening. To have a beautiful tree you must prune the tree, so that in the long run it stays healthy and doesn’t collapse on itself. Thats what I like to say at least
It’s sad really.
It's Twitter, not having the ability to reason is required to get an account
This is what I don’t understand. Hunting is some of the most conservative ways of gathering meat. It helps level out animal populations and the fact animal lovers don’t see that it’s beneficial makes me sad.
And you can't argue with those people, they just believe its bad and you can't change their mind at all.
Exactly. They are uneducated and need to be taught
People are too disconnected from their food sources. They'd freak out if they saw the conditions that cattle lived in before they ended up in McDonald's burgers
I feel like a big part of it lies in the media (school books, movies, etc) have taught some to hate all hunters. These are the same people who hate alpaca farms because they think they rip the hair out instead of shears (shears is like 70x faster).
For sure
I especially blame Bambi for this. It turned every hunter into the guy who shot Bambi’s mum to the general public.
Ditto
The guy with the rifle is easiest to blame, unfortunately
Funny enough the original Bambi story was written by Felix Salten, who was an avid hunter if I recall correctly
A lot of the story was changed by Disney (wouldn’t be the first time they did so)
Canned hunting isn’t ethical to be fair
Calling it trophy hunting in the first place is a wild accusation.
If that was confirmed at all, there's no real information just buzzwords
That’s exactly what it is
How many people on reddit have even been outside the city? 2%? They have nothing but a loud voice and more herd instincts than sheep
If you combine everyone from the hunting/gun/outdoors subreddits, you’ll find it.
I wish I'd have taped what happened in my old deer camp. Had a friend of a friend join us for a couple days and he shot a nice buck. Then he took just the head and came back to camp bragging. Man got the sh** kicked out of him by 6 people
Someone taught him wrong!
Someone else threw his Browning into a lake. You don't want to be caught poaching in tn and it ain't the game warden you ought to be scared of
If you don’t like venison, fine don’t eat it. But at least bring it back so other people can eat it!
Im gonna be thinking about that for the rest of the day now…my day is ruined
At the same camp, when I was younger I saw a man in his late 40's crying until he puked because he wounded and lost a deer. Not a soul in camp made fun of him and we finally got a half dozen coon dogs together to look for it
I can’t even imagine disliking venison.
Pause. He did WHAT?
Some people just don’t have good tastes
It's good he hopefully learned his lesson (assuming he did)
I apologize.
I never saw that guy again tho, and the dude who brought him was almost thrown out of the camp. People who hunt for food see the world very differently
Wounding an animal just sucks all around.
But that kind of experience definitely reminds you to be a better hunter, that’s for sure
I grew up with guys who only cared for venison, like "ya can't eat bone" guys. I remember very specifically one old man at the checking station near our place. My dad was checking in a buck he got when this guy pulled in and he was mad as they come.
"We get one buck tag a year and my dumb *** just so happens to shoot this scrawny thing" it was an 8 point with a wide rack but it was skinny, running does so much he wouldn't make it through winter skinny
Back to African topics.
Do you actually get to eat any animal you shoot? Like if you down an impala at camp do you eat from it for your trip or do they send the meat to the nearest village and just rely on supplies bought before the trip?
We chow the impalas, or I bring it back to the anti poaching camp for the guys.
There’s this notion that meat “goes to the local tribes”
It’s a really condescending way of saying it goes to public butchery’s and people can buy it😅
I kinda meant like a freezer or something but sure.
I'd rather it just went to the guys who helped me tho.
I only asked because I'm curious how smaller animals are handled. Like gazelle or duiker
Idk if anyone else thinks this but if there were animals on land, the anglers African reserve would be a great hunting area
It's good, those Blue Kurper are mean to me though
What? That's my favorite fish tho
They don't like me I've caught like 500 and no dime
I caught the first dime off the dock you start at with bloodworm. . .
Small things like Duiker as usually eaten there and then
I kinda figured, after bones and organs there can't be much meat there
I was told by my PH that duiker were more likely to have worms and other parasites
Wouldn't most parasites be killed by cooking? And they mostly inhabit the gut not the actual meat
Most likely
YES ADD AFRICA 2.0 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amen
I've only just realized, the .375 is going to be in a wood stock but we have no guarantee it won't be some gaudy laminate color
Just gotta hope EW isn’t dumb and actually listens to us I guess.
If it is we riot
If there’s a single bit of plastic, we make a racket
Might make a suggestion for it, just kinda show what we're hoping for
Posted it and tagged this thread.
#1265311711355994133 if you want to see it
This particular one looks awesome
It's the Lion Series at SCI they're all RUMs from 7mm to .450
Accidentally found the top. If you want to reread or if you haven’t read it, here it is
If they did the respawn mechanics they did today on elephants in an Africa 2 map I would implode with anger.
Won't have to worry about Africa 2.0 it may very well be next map though cause they said it would be last map
Negative Jaxy has said multiple times that that’s not the case
We got mentioned in the stream today
Ooooh, what did jaxy say?
Didn't get to watch the entire stream, did he say much about ?
He means the game is dying
Was thinking abt this its a good idea and will get my money
Almost makes me hopeful it’s coming sooner than expected…
Let’s not hold our breath but I did like his response🫣
Is this actually coming to the game or am i just hoping currently?
Just hoping at the moment, but maybe a little more hope
It would honestly be so awesome to have animals like hippos and girrafes and just even baboons
They would be great additions
Bang the drum for Africa, with us, and help make this map reality
I'm hoping, against all odds, that there's no GO on Africa 2.0, I want them to focus on making a good map not another grinding area
Id honestly be happy with whatever. The develepors are really great at their job working on this game. Im sure they’ll figure it out if we get africa 2.0
I wouldn’t worry too much, they’ve never made an ugly map
I'm not concerned it'll look bad, I'm worried the terrain will be built around grinding like NEM was
What could be so big that’s jaxy was hinting at in the steam coming in November
Nem was in 0 way built around grinding it’s the worst grinding map in the game
An island surrounded by rivers with moose and whitetail deer.
Yeah
Hopefully 5 things
Hopefully
But you can’t grind them bc of the tent thing and there is 200 zones for moose no one grinds it I might have been gear towards grinding but no one grinds it
If anything, the community weapon pack makes me wonder if they plan to Overhaul the score system. Like a big change, patryja said they were looking at new reticles
Could well be
She posted a picture of several reticles. Not many that look made for hunting tho
These would be cool
Dunno about 6 and 7 but yeah, good choices
We better get an outfit like this
Lmao, pith helmet and all EW
Patterson style helmet
Think Vurhonga came with this outfit they just changed a couple details
I've seen quite a few people arguing this in my own friend group and on here, I don't want to cause and argument but
Do any of y'all have a problem with hunting primates? I mean baboons and macaques, not apes or chimps.
You mean like, hit-boxes in trees?
Porcupines
No, but that would be cool because shooting a leopard off a branch would be amazing
I just mean the animal, is there an issue with shooting them?
Shouldn’t have stolen my taco after waiting in line for 30 minutes at my favorite food truck. 😆
Exactly. I've seen tons of videos of them just straight up attacking tourists so I'm wondering why they aren't culled
No issue
Baboons are the most hunted primate here
Do you see a lot of nuisance calls on them? They seem like they'd be a real problem on farms. I wouldn't mind taking down baboons with a .223 or something
Monkeys (including Baboons) are fair game in my opinion
Also Chimpanzees are a type of Ape, more specifically a Great Ape (which also includes Bonobos, Gorillas, Orangutans and Humans)
Yeah pretty common, they’re everywhere
See, I've got friends who said they'd rather shoot housecats than monkeys. I don't get it, just looking at a baboon you should be able to tell it's going to be a problem
They're what ? 30 or 40 pounds, maybe more with 3 inch canines and pack tactics
Don’t forget the vervets
Their like squirrels…but worse
They also attack and kill pets and have occasionally been known to attack children and even abduct human infants and eat them alive
Which means they need culling in areas where they have regular contact with humans
precisely; although I think there are some conservation laws that make it difficult to defend oneself/a loved one/a pet/livestock from them outside of a hunting context; tbh I wouldn't be able to fly with that in SA; if I were in a scenario where I had a child and that child was being attacked by a baboon that thing's getting killed by whatever means I have available to me because my sympathies ended the moment it decided to maul someone I care about
Since we’re on the topic of baboons, might as well show this mount I found.probably the best baboon mount I’ve seen
neat
Fair, my local game warden tells me to shoot whatever needs it.
We had a black bear snooping around our place in spring and he told me to just kill it and report that it had killed a goat or cow, all he has to do is come by and look at the situation then write a little report
yeah, sounds roughly correct; predators being acclimated to people is a bad thing; be selective with mtn lions though, the dominant toms prevent younger ones from going haywire and killing livestock, so if a/the dominant tom is shot like 5 to 7 dispersal yearling males move in and start killing goats, sheep, and cows by the dozen (in my state, CO, killing a dominant tom causes livestock deaths from mtn lions in particular to go up by %250-%450, with some worst-case outliers approaching %1,000 increases; it's a similar increase for livestock deaths to predators in general since the lions make up the majority for larger stock outside of coyotes)
Never have trouble with cougars, just black bears and coyotes. Only seen a lion trail two or three times since we moved here about 2 or 3 years ago
probably a more regulated population where you are then; CO basically has a surplus of them
I'm in Wyoming, I did apply for landowner tags just in case
In short, monkeys are basterds
🙈
😦
Answer monkey noise with bullets
Swap the black .470 with the Halloween colors and you have the poacher's rifle from Vurhonga, LoL
Lol
Feels like it should have been something like that to start with, that weird vanta black is awful

Are pistols hunted with much in Africa? I just had a thought and got curious
South Africa, Ethiopia and I believe Zimbabwe allow pistols for hunting.
Oh cool, haven't seen much about it tho. Haven't really gone looking to much either tho. Just had a thought that in all wellington's pics I haven't seen a sidearm. Wondered if they were banned for some reason
Pistols aren’t terribly popular in Africa. It’s better to just have a rifle, but I know PH’s will use them for putting down plain’s game(not dangerous game though, you use a rifle for them)
Maybe it's just about like case of use?
Like, idk how much good a 9mm or .45 Auto handgun's gonna go against a charging rhino, elephant, hippo, or cape buffalo, and I can't imagine it's the best choice if you get into a firefight with a group of poachers (although I'm not sure if something like that has happened since like 2000 in SA)
Totally fair, but also, if something drags you out of the tent better a pistol than nothing right?
Can't really say I hunt with a pistol very much but I don't think it would be bad to have a decent one as a back up or alternative
Anyway, had this thought after deciding how to deal with my sudden pile of surplus .350 Legend ammo. I ordered what is basically a cuomo pistol with a 10"barrel. Thought it would be a fun gun for deer
Yeah a pistol is definitely better than the nearest stick, that’s for sure
Yeah it’s legal but not super common
May it have something to do with the fact that the majority of the pistol cartridges usable on the larger game animals there can injure your wrists or give you a forehead tattoo with the front sight post if you aren't ready for the recoil?
Plus the whole range restriction that comes with a pistol, and also the comparitive loss of power.
I kinda have a thing about carrying a pistol after I got my knee busted by a feral hog. It flattened me and knocked my rifle out of my hands and I had to scramble to it . By the time I grabbed the rifle and swung it around the muzzle was a.couple inches in front of its face. I could have used a pistol then but didn't have one on me
Never going to take a pistol over a rifle for actually stopping something cold, but having a second option just feels better
That art would looks great in my room lol
Well, my save file is gone again, back to square one for the 4th time
Looks Awsome
Rigby Highland stalker in .275
If only I had 30k that I had no use for
Looks beautiful
Rigby does make some gorgeous stuff, I'm kinda hoping the .375 will have this kinda look to it
I reset purposefully and got a diamond in 40 minutes lol
I did not do it purposefully. Or at all. But my game sure decided I needed to totally restart
I know. I just was saying I’m with you bro.
It's the 4th time tho, I can't even enjoy hunting the way I want to because I have to keep unlocking the same scopes and ammo repeatedly
That definitely sucks
What's more annoying is after buying the .300 ar the bolt action is still locked behind 6k xp. When they gave us the power pack the .338 git unlocked but the 7mm didn't
It makes no sense how they've done it
If this were to be added how long would yall guess it would take to be made?
Same as Nepal, little less if they start halfway before the map before it is finished.
Wouldn't object to it taking longer if it was a bigger map, which I'm sure they could do.
Same here, tbh even if the map was a little smaller but we got the big 5 species I’d be happy
What about Cheetahs!
Not thought about cheetahs! Good suggestion
Good luck chasing one down if you spook it though
Cheetahs would make a very interesting hunt, but they're so small they'd almost have to be class 3 right?
4, they’ve small but still not teeny
They make this incredible noise too, like a chirping
Really? They're so light I'd think a .243 would be great on them but I'd feel bad using a .300 or something
Just within the game classes 3 just seems slightly too small
Idk, hog deer and pronghorn are really tough class 3s, neither really belong there tho
Hmm, it’s up for debate. I have no idea what people use to hunt them
I could see 270 being really good tho, maybe class 4 is best
I’m not even sure if you can hunt cheetahs here- I’ve never heard of it before
Same, I think it was a 50s thing
Could be
as far as I know they can only be culled or moved; their genetic diversity is practically none since almost all surviving wild individuals are descended from parent-offspring and sibling-sibling pairings after they were nearly completely extirpated for the fur market in Europe
Wouldn’t surprise me
I'd be willing to bet a large portion of cheetah hides were sold as leopard skins because folks wouldn't know the difference
Quite likely to be honest
Can't think of any other good reason for shooting cheetahs tbh. They are cats so probably not the best meat, not much of a challenge if you can shoot from a distance (bow hunting could be fun tho) and around that time leopard furs were probably selling for a good price
Plus they've been bullied so hard by market hunters, poachers, and nature that it would be adding insult to injury tbh.
The word Flimsy fits them to a T
Honestly a reserve with a large cheetah population would be a good sign, especially if there were enough the mission would be culling them to make them spread out more and help genetic variations. Sort of shoot a few to break up territories and spread them out more
I’m pretty sure South Africa allows cheetah, and I definitely know Namibia have cheetah hunts
Africa cheetah hunting is very controlled. They are strictly protected as a CITIES Appendix 1 animal. In the early 1990s, CITIES approved quotas for cheetah trophies from South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, but US hunters can’t bring cheetah trophies home
Of course I only hear about Cheetah Hunting happening in Namibia
Importation is just a mess. But if I remember right, you can import to Canada
You can import cheetah and markhor trophies
But the Federal Government banned the importation of Elephant tusk and Rhinoceros horns less then a year ago (despite no more then 7 pairs of elephant tusk and one set of rhinoceros horns coming into Canada every year if I recall correctly)
CITES is a pain, you have to jump through hoops to get tags so you can sell bobcat/lynx pelts. Lynx I kinda understand but bobcats are not even close to being threatened
bobcats are overpopulated in many parts of the country, so them being super regulated makes about zero sense; wish CITES was still the way it was like 4 years ago when its regulations weren't written by complete numpties
I shot one a week ago with one of our chickens in it's mouth, the dipstick in the DNR still tried to charge me with poaching
certified federal agent moment
must not know that federal law allows anybody who keeps livestock to kill any predator in the US in defense of their stock animals. Many states extend this to naming specific species with Wyoming and Colorado naming coyotes, bears, mtn lions, foxes, bobcats, and wolves as at-risk animals that you are allowed to shoot if they threaten your animals.
The game warden told him it wasn't poaching since it killed livestock and all I had to do was sign a couple of papers. People who spent their entire lives in a city shouldn't be allowed to work in wildlife management
At this point it's not a question of whether he was from a city but rather had he ever been outside or even seen a bobcat in his life before that call, I've lived in a city my whole life (I hate it) and I somehow have a better grasp of the laws that govern human-animal relations than a DNR officer.
Where do this guys get their certifications, a box of crackerjacks?
No clue, the local game warden is a better officer than most I've dealt with. He helped last year when coyotes got one of our goats. He also comes up here and let's us know if there's a problem animal in the area
Well at least one of the officers in your area has his head screwed on straight, that's a nice upside.
Most do, it's just the new guys that are morons
Sounds about right
5500th message
Big W
Just to throw in a new idea what about a new great one with the map?
Elephant great one of course
Super super tuskers with 60kg tusks lol
Or a Four tusker. It’s a rare mutation
Or maybe even tusks that resemble a mammoth or mastodon
Or maybe tusks like the extinct straight-tusked elephants that got like 10+ foot tusks
that too
honestly would make more sense now thinking about it since Palaeoloxodon is very closely related to the African Elephant genus (Loxodonta), mainly the African Forest Elephant (Loxodonta cyclotis)
could do the mammoth tusks for asian elephants (if we ever get them) since asian elephants are closely related to mammoths
Doubtful. I’d rather just see more tusk variations for the great one tbh
Valid
How about a weapon skin for the .470 that's just engraved with elephants and ebony wood awarded fir your first diamond elephant?
Better yet a .600NE?
Any double would be cool, .470 is just an example
maybe for a great one Asian Elephant
Doubt we will see Asian elephants after sundar and Indian map is very unlikely
true
If hyenas use pack tactics, how many should each group contain?
would vary; clans range from under a dozen to more than 90 depending on region, length of time since formation, and time of year
I'd say probably 10 to 20 for a common range and a max of 30 to 40
like the wildebeests on Vurhonga
Rather see like 5 or less, there's problems with groups that large
could just copy the wolves with solos, pairs and packs of 3 to 8 with the odd larger one every once in a while
Had a pack of 12-15 jump me in Cuatro once, not very fun, all I hadvon me was the 7mm bolt gun
😬
Around 4-5
Female hyenas should make diamond since they are bigger than males
Since the majority of people who keep up with this thread are pretty reasonable and care for the game I wanna ask something here.
Community challenges and rewards, would they be a decent time killer between maps? Simple rewards like a new skin or something for smaller rewards to something more interesting for bigger challenges. What I mean is, let's say, a new shotgun for x amount of birds killed, a new handgun for x amount of golds taken with a handgun.
Do the weapons need to be an entirely new design and concept or can they be a modified version of what we have in the game? Say a single shot pistol like the cuomo but .308?
I'd say so
Hmmm
I posted #1264377279086202891 with an alternate .338 rifle for folks who don't like the Tsurugi but it's not getting a ton of traction, I asked here because I wanted to know if this is something anyone would actually care for as far as the game
I strongly advocate for this map as it adds both the Big 5 and more plains game. Africa has a crapton of interesting plains game species that aren't well represented
Tho tbh, I'd keep in lions and then change the Vurhonga map to be mor Karoo/Kalahari based which opens the door for cheetahs, blesbok, and black wildebeest
This will help contrast that hap with the Big 5 map
Could it be… the consequences of a steadily growing population of multi ton animals?
Then, make a Cameroon map
So you have 3 Africa maps that deliver on what makes the continent a hunter's paradise
The issue is that Vurhonga has already been marketed as a Botswana map back in 2017 won the EW twitter
Wait, what?
Why did they put them emblem in South Africa then?
confusion
This is a load of BS
Hunting is the biggest positive factor in animal
Conservation
Man people are dumb. For those in this thread that don't know, elephants tend to have uneven tusks because they used one preferred one, so their wear asymmetrically with one breaking off before the other.
It's also a common recessive trait to have one tusk longer than the other.
What is your opinion on the super tusker thing in Tanzania, personally I don’t know enough about it to have any opinion but that is one of her main talking points?
Who has anything against super tuskers in their right mind 💀
I don’t know, I know nothing about them.
I can imagine a story arc where you hunt a diamond elephant that's on its last teeth
As far as I know the super tuskers are just bulls with good genetics that grow old and get huge tusks thanks to a stable environment (and assuming they don't break a tusk at some point).
The only way they can exist is if it's going well in the first place.
They also keep younger bulls in line and if/when they go rogue in their old age any reserve can bring in hundreds of thousands to pay some foreigner to shoot it.
Also they're mostly rly rly old
The main reason we don't see tuskers that much is that in many areas, the population skews young
He'll of a lot of trouble for a glorified molar
even worse, glorified canine tooth.
It comes from one of the smallest teeth 😭
So they are literally just older bull elephants in Tanzania, huh.
Yeah, that's it.
Any of the younger ones with like 35 inch tusks that are just barely mature can eventually become that, and many of them actually will assuming they aren't poached, killed during musth by another bull, and avoid starvation/thirst/disease.
You know how in whitetail management they want to keep the bigger and older bucks in the gene pool and cull the ones with smaller antlers? Same theory but elephant as far as I can tell
It also has to do with the survival of the females and young with both species (really most game animal species) since overzealous young males with no older, dominant ones to keep them in check can breed females to death, fatally injure them in the process of mating, and will often go out of their way to try and kill a prior year's offspring to force early estruss.
Population control
She’s trying way too hard to make them seem like their own subspecies lol
Moral grandstanding to make herself popular with idiots who don't do their own thinking
It’s hilarious.
Got something annoying me. Way of the hunter is doing an ammo update with 3 types of ammo per caliber and it's only been out about 2 years.
Call of the Wild has been out for 7 and we still have two stupidly basic ammo types
When it comes to hunting(elephants in particular) I say that hunting is like gardening. To have a healthy tree you have to prune it, otherwise it will collapse on itself
yes, sometimes too many of something is bad
Well also, a lot of it is because of elephants concentrating in places due to habitat fragmentation, fencing of protected areas without corridors or even their refusal to leave
Like I know Botswana has a shitload of elephants due to a lot of them being refugees from Angola during the war so, even with the war having stopped a while ago, many would refuse to go back
No clue think they made a F-up
On the twitter if you go back to around 2017 is says it’s set in Botswana
I mean look,
If you can market a certain animal at a higher price because of certain unique physical features go for it- all this money goes into keeping reserves running
That’s one of the best ways of describing it, that I’ve heard. I’ll save this
Doesn't look much like Botswana to me either. I think they missed the mark entirely and tried to cover it up
Like Huxley said I think they screwed up lol.
The geography and the environment they made for the map is more representative of that area around the southern extent of the Drakensburg range than Botswana.
Oh well, i guess if there's a silver lining it could mean an Africa 2.0 reserve in Botswana with most or all the ideas you've laid out here.
I'm happy we're getting a. 375 finally, I just hope it's not some gaudy super modern design tho
community choice was wooden stock with I think a 24 inch barrel so it's likely gonna be some iteration of an H&H, CZ550, or similar
It was, however nothing said it wouldn't be a laminate stock and covered in Cerakote
true, we'll just have to wait and see i suppose
Botswana already falls in the Kalahari
Then I'd redo the whole thing to the point where it's a whole new map
Open savannah/desert with springbok, black wildebeest, and gemsbok being the dominant herbivores and the flagship carnivore is the cheetah
This will be a great way to contrast it with this big 5 map which is what you proposed
What do you think?
Tikamoon Plains is a good visual of what I'm talking about. Lots of very arid savannah and desert
Needs a large swath of Okavango Delta (like 50%) but I get the vision.
Oh I was just planning for a fairly plain desert map with plains game so that it wouldn't conflict with the big 5 map
Trying to think of making each map worth a hunt
48 away from 1000 upvotes
Most of Botswana’s hunting takes place in the Okavango, so personally I’d want that to be the main focus.
Namibia is great for deserts and plains game.
Then make that map Namibia
I'm sure people won't mind the change and you'd have 2 distinct African maps
Would prefer a greater Kruger area map, more dense bush and mountains with lush green river bed areas
What do you think of the Caprivi strip?
That's what the big 5 map here would be
Hmmm
I'm trying to consider the uniqueness of locations and the animals in them so that every map has something that attracts players
Give me a map with plains game and I'd pay 15 bucks
Oh same
Ducks ruined Vurhonga for me, made me despise birds, hopefully Africa 2.0 won't suffer constant quacking
Yeah waterfowl in this game are broken
Also, in terms of small birds, there's a much more obvious candidate IMO; guineafowl
Ducks on Vurhonga are like flying megaphones
Way too loud
Best description yet.
I'd actually love to see guinea fowl in game, they look good in WotH but I think CotW might make them more interesting with rares and such
Cheers
I totally forgot the species list and can’t find a way to get it back up to the top how do you do that
ducks in general in this game sound like they're only 10 meters up lol.
I come from a family of waterfowl hunters, and while ducks/geese are about as vocal in flight IRL as in game, they're much quieter over distance (unless landed, then it's an insufferable cacophany)
It should be pinned
So, if you guys haven't seen it, the Way of the Hunter update changed their ammo, all ot it, to more effective rounds. Even the weakest base calibers got improved. The ammo amounts to soft point, Polymer Tipped, and hollow point. They pretty much bettered cotw's ammo system by a wide margin
Close to 1000
I cna smell it
When this post reaches 1k I hope jaxy tells us what the devs think of it. I'd love to know just how closely they are watching this thread grow
He has mentioned it in a stream
👀 In what way?
In passing or?
It’s been mentioned quite a few times
there is hope yet
A Africa hunting paradise! Please I hope they add this!
Up Up Up 🔥🔥🔥
It would be nice to know if the feedback is actually effecting anything
I don't think they'd come straight out and say their plans, but it would be encouraging if they named a few things we've discussed that got their interest
Exactly
Real
Someone said have you seen Africa big 5 has reached 950 upvotes and he said we have been paying attention
I'm sure it was mentioned within the 5k replies but I recall a question you had at the start of this thread about Hyenas and Honey Badgers. I believe the Badger would be great as a T: 2 or 3 simply bc they are hardy predators & tenacious by nature. As for the Hyena I'm thinking a T: 6 due to there behavior and groups even though they're scavengers and will eat everything.
Idk if this has been discussed but a lion rework would be great where there is a set number of prides not too low but not too high where they are everywhere and a model rework too possible g1
Spotted hyenas are mostly predators
75% success rate while lions usually sit between 22% and 31%
Lions are usually the scavengers at that
I'm aware but they're also known for eating everything bone and all. But I was replying to the ? presented in his listing bc Hyenas were blank & he didn't know about the Honey Badger. Theres 5000+ replies and it would be like reading a novel so I was asking if they were talked about or not. I was also suggesting Hyenas be a T:6 & Honey Badger be a T: 2 or 3. I think 3 would be appropriate bc they're hardy animals.
Also tbh, I totally think you can just Thanos snap Vurhonga, explain that you'll deliver something better soon, and add the Zimbabwe and Namibia map
And ffs, have geographically accurate animal choices please. No springbok and lesser kudu in the same map
For species that will be in both maps, I'd have different densities like Namibia having more rhinoceros and Zimbabwe having more elephants and buffalo
@mighty rampart what do you think?
I would like to see a map set somewhere in either Tanzania or Ethiopia for the express purpose of having a more suitable map for Lesser Kudu (just in case replacing them on Vurhonga is doable, and I wouldn't mind Eurasian Wigeon being replaced by a waterfowl species found in Southern Africa with a more limited range)
Ethiopia
More unique
My goal is to have maps that are interesting but also unique enough to justify the devs making them and the customer buying them
So that's
Namibia
Zimbabwe
Ethiopia
Throw in a Cameroon map and all of Africa is basically covered
I don't see how Tanzania is somehow less then Ethiopia, they both have unique species that can't be hunted anywhere else and both could easily be set up to stand out from each other
Well Ethiopia has mountain nyala though Tanzania can work
This is my main reference
So an Ethiopian map with a highland section (mountain nyala) and a lower plains section (beisa, gerenuk)
Gerenuk are also found in Tanzania
crocodile attacking zebra, hippo attacking crocodile, player going home with 3 trophies
Tbh, Tanzania would actually be great.
Specifically, I'd base it around Northern Tanzania where many of those endemic plains game species live
In these parts
With these four maps, you could actually fill the safari lodge with actual African species
Actually here's a site that breaks a potential Ethiopian roster down to highlands and lowlands
https://www.northernoperationsafrica.com/hunt-mountain-nyala.html
I'll buy any Map that has a reasonable number of huntable predators. Lions need reworked to not be scardy cats and I'd enjoy them more. Hyenas would be great esp. at night, along with badgers that can attack you like the capri grouse do or even the salt crocs are good ex.'s for the behavior AI.
Would prefer Africa 2 to still be within the southern hemisphere
South Africa
Zimbabwe
Zambia
Malawi
Swaziland
Botswana
Maybe Mozambique
OH nm
See, I was talking about African maps that'd come after Africa 2.0
My ideal roadmap would be
Zimbabwe: Africa 2.0. This'll be the first one
Namibia: Kalahari plains game
Cameroon: Jungle and savannah hunting. Bongo in the jungle and giant eland in the savannah
Ethiopia: East African plains game as well as upland species like mountain nyala
Those four maps would cover pretty much everything Africa has
Ja,
I’m saying the grand big 5 map should be in Southern Africa
I think the tigers are rly good at the whole predator thing
They sorta set the whole standard
I agree with ya there 1st encounter actually made me jump just like the salt crocs did. I loved it
Tho also have moments where they're chilling nearby as that's a thing you see a lot with lions
And also, I'd have behavior variation based on time of day
Like, in day time, if you're both out in the open, no one's gonna try anything, in fact they'll probably book it. But once it gets darker, it's a different story
Day and night behaviour for lions, Hyenas leopards etc would be essential
I didn't mind them they just scare too easily instead of hey back off. Pumas had an early stalk mechanic at first that had that intimidation factor that brought bk memories of my own encounters irl hunting them. Then Tigers blew my mind stalk n fear then pounce, while snow leopards were perfect as I'd expect a lynx to be.
I really want to see these behaviors (natural behaviors) with the predators in this reserve. Sry if I'm a buzz kill to the larger game you all want but I felt it was worth mentioning from a pred hunters view.
Nah this input is amazing
🤝 Thanks
Do you guys think Thanos snapping Vurhonga is too controversial in return for better, more bespoke African maps?
No don’t think they need to get rid of it, he’ll they could even just take the map shape and change the flora and terrain slightly and throw new species in and I’d be happy as a new map
A terrain change would be rad. If I had to choose any of my 4 African map ideas, I'd have it be the Namibia map
A mix of rocky terrain and arid savannah with some dunes for good measure
I'd like to see biome transitions as well Nepal I felt did a fair job going from South to North it was really great to see.
Oh yeah for sure
My goal is for these 4 Africa maps to feel unique and bespoke. The big problem with Vurhonga is that it feels very mishmashed and poorly researched in terms of geography
I think Namibia would require the least edits to the terrain itself
This to me would be like crack going from one preds domain to another that flows naturally but seperately is a fabulous balance. Plus its very appealing to the eye with prey as well.
Actually one great idea is to have the need zones of predators change within set regions and have that affect the movement of prey animals
Vurhonga feels like its in open country plains granted it was probably intended to be but Medved I felt more immersion with its atmosphere and terrain structure. Though the culture storyline was really good on Vurhonga where Medved seemed like it lacked in this regard.
Oh also
Have predator movements affect different predators
Especially with top order predators or more dominant predators such as lions
love it. I actually talked about this in another thread as well talking about rework ai predator behaviors
Also Huxley & I also talked this over and came up with a mechanic for predator hunts along with a few other thread inspirations we managed to piece together a 2nd Ambusher Pack. However I'd like to add on that.
Defiantly something they should consider
Could do the desert area of NW SA next to the Namibian border
Hey Well I have a ? for you if its no trouble. Related to predators what do yall do to hunt them there?? As I said I've never been and there isn't a lot of info about it compared to the popular game most talk about.
I'll get to the point I'm trying to rally folks to encourage more ways to hunt predators in game, since alot of the core game mechanics thus far heavily focus on prey/waterfowl over predator game minus the E-Caller and I'll admit Safari game is not my topic strength.
Hyenas and wild dogs are OP all I'm gonna say in terms of tactics used to earn success
Even waterfowl are kinda broken since they just fly all around the map being super loud
🤣 they keep coming no matter how stressed an area is and when they land, I can plink them point blank w/ a .22 its ridiculous and no fun at all. esp. on RC its really bad.
But no I'm trying to get content and feedback on predator game because I feel they got left out as "they're just their vibe." And its a passion of mine both irl & in-game. Lol someday I'll get my predator lodge. I'd also love to get more multi-mounts both for prey & predators. Birds and prey need more as well it seems options for them are rather limited. On that note this thread is the largest on African game so as a small % pred hunter I wanted to add my feedback so I have something to hunt outside of Lions & Jackels 😅 -
H*** I'd be ecstatic if the existing map added 2 more predators to it.
I'd say first, add none and just constantly tweek the ones we already have until they're great
Agreed, once they get tweaked with new ai behaviors and re-textures it will be alot better. I just struggle trying to enjoy it as is. Capes & Wildebeests are great but I really struggle enjoying the Savanna as is. It feels bland if that makes sense?!
Tbh, if I was a hunting game, I'd save Africa until at least 5 DLC maps later
Make the people practically beg for it and then bring it out
True it would be good marketing however wait to long it could cost you.
I'd say 2-3 as people are already begging
I should also add until your team is experienced enough to really deliver
Something else that may have been mentioned here is Land Cruisers with the chairs and rest on the back
Honestly I love this idea, idk if they'd need to pull it from the store or anything but it'd breathe new life into what's a dead map for a lot of people. I don't think they'd need o alter the story or flavor text, just change the flora and fauna
Exactly I think tweaking vurhunga savannah and added a couple to a few new species and changing terrain a bit would really revive the map
It wouldn't hurt to resting the kudu to impala and cut back on the duck spawns in favor of more impala
Impala and like one more antelope species and 1 more predator and if be fine
Impala, a blesbok or hartebeest of some sort, hyenas or leopards and some changes to the foliage would bring Vurhonga back for me. If they have to keep the stupid ducks at least restrict them to swampy area and near the river
Just plain stupid to be stalking lions with the ambience of a duck farm on loudspeakers in every direction
Was thinking Impala or Nyala but a hartebeest would be cool
That way we save greater kudu and eland for this map as well as the sable
Hartebeest would be cool
My roster for this new Vurhonga would be. Still going for the Namibia/Kalahari vibe to make a distinct, unique African map
Phase 1
Blue and black wildebeest
Greater kudu
Springbok
Gemsbok
Warthog
Lion
Cape buffalo
Black-backed jackal
Scrub hare
Phase 2
Chacma baboon
Red hartebeest
Angolan giraffe
Leopard
Burchell's zebra (or Hartmann's mountain zebra)
Spotted hyena
Cheetah
Ostrich
Helmeted guineafowl
Eventually the two rhino species
So the focus would be on desert/arid animals
Buffalo and any species dependant on water will occur at lower densities than more arid adapted animals like gemsbok
Western kudu from Chad
you learn something new everyday
Negative these phases are not in a good order- we want the big 5 first. We don’t k ow if a 3rd Africa map would happen before they end development
Right, good point
Exactly, we want all the popular ones that many people dream of like big 5, crocodiles, hippos, zebra, hyena and others thinking about the last map released this year there are 10 unique animals made on the new map and we know that there shouldn't be another African map, EW should go all out on Africa 2.0 meeting her.
After all, it would be the most profitable DLC, as an example we have the Tiger, put the popular animals in a trailer and see the hype it will generate
I wouldn’t mind them doing a plains game centered map, like class 3-9 ungulates exclusively to warm up to Africa and prepare themselves for the Big 5 map.
If I can be frank I want to see all future reserves done as well if not better than Nepal moving fwd. With that said I also would like to see all maps prior refreshed with updated animal behavior ai & textures. Honestly, I don't mind the current reserve terrain feat. however adding 4 seasons weather would be great in par to the animals breeding season behaviors. Plus this in turn can add flavor to new mounts and multi-mounts in our lodges.
Yes, I also want to see improvements in AI, the tiger showed that EW is capable of making dynamic animals, changing climates on the map such as sandstorms, drought, flooding of rivers would be very welcome on a map for large animals like Africa where many are very aggressive.
Amen
Jeez
Monsoon Season
@mighty rampart sry about that
I was thinking really far forward
I'd say for this map, I'd at least want
Big 5
Hippo
Croc
Giraffe
Zebra
Impala
Hyena
Sable
Greater kudu (shouldn't be too hard to edit the model from the lesser kudu)
That's 10 fully unique, new animals
ignore the ai bug 😂
No need to apologise we are all allowed our opinions on what we would like to see next
Tho yeah, for Africa 2.0, I think it should be the map you're suggesting
Also, for animals that are going back in like wildebeest, buffalo, and lion, give them a model revamp
I wish ew would partner with you to create this exact map and just get your insight since this is the most popular suggestion
I would tune them for nothing, I’m fortunate enough to have collected a wealth of information from my employment. Although I’m very confident that they could give us a realistic and exciting African map from their own efforts
After Sundarpatan I'm fully confident they could do it, even if it may take 12-18 months
Ok hear me out they keep doing yearly new maps but during the winter release do a map remaster with some new species and touch up some old maps
Not a bad idea and easily doable as it's less programming and only some tweaks as well it would be during the blueprint.stage of a new map so it's not like any devs would be pulled off of the development phase
Africa update!
Perhaps even another vurhonga map with slightly different flora, that’s set 20,years ago when the island had big 5 game
Vurhonga will need a crocodile backfill after a new africa map drops because the river sorrounding the reserve has crocodile warning signs near every bridge leaving the reserve, it would really breathe more life into the map
%100
I love the idea but i would look out that we not only concentrate on the bigger animals and the big 5. For me its just a part of the game to have smaller animals aswell and some little potentionaly agressive animals like baboons would be awesome too
I want to see some bush this colour

SWEEEEEEETTTT SWEEEEEEEEEEETTT SWEET VICTORY
Very close

People left! Deserters.. . . .
I made a new map design idea inspired by @main knot 's map drawing style
I didn't want to include too many lakes to keep the plains and savannah really open and flat, a couple watering holes and smaller lakes scattered amongst them while the bigger lakes are towards the mountanous areas, also a river running through a canyon splitting into 2 smaller rivers headed for each of the flatter areas of the map
How deep is that river? Are we getting boat crossing points or are there places you could wade?
I was thinking we could have a couple bridges connecting over with some of the islands, some places can have boats and some parts in the 2 river splits could be shallow enough to cross, they could implement crocodiles hunting animals crossing the shallow parts, just like in real life
I was thinking if we had something like waterbuck then we need an area of swampy ground with tall reeds, could also serve for buffalo or hippo
I marked a couple different species where they could be found
keep in mind hippos during the night should be leaving the river to go into their feed zones 100-300 metres away just like in real life
Need that to be a mechanic in the sense that one mission is to kill a bull taking over a crop field
I hope we get a few mission animals to actually kill.
Maneating Crocodile, Man killing Hippopotamus, Maneateing lions (Coalition perhaps) and finally… a disruptive old bull elephant would be my picks.
new great one would definetly be a battle between elephants, greater kudu and honestly even rhinos for me
I'd we could borrow an idea from Jim Corbett's experiences, a Maneater leopard that caused a village to be abandoned
👀
That was a crazy story!
I could see the same happening in Africa, that or a pack of hyenas
What’s impressive about any of these maneaters is just how big some of these cats have been recorded having acquired the marbled meat diet. 😧
That would be so cool
I’m in favor of an elephant great one personally
I've found 2 stories, from a long while ago, about baboons killing and eating toddlers but I can't find a definite location
Baboons are just the worst
Without a location I'm not sure the stories are real, one just a South African news story and the other is in Tanzania
Baboons are terrors
like i like primates a lot but if one of em crosses a line and deadass comes into my house and starts mauling a loved one or a pet it's getting shot
Baboons are seriously overpopulated in cities, considering how dangerous they are, aren't there culling programs?
it's sorta teetering, the need for culling is recognized but as it stands olive baboons (the ones were are speaking about) are the only primate on earth with a body mass above 20lbs that isn't endangered
I mean fine but dam* there's so many attacks you have to wonder how much can happen before someone thinks about human safety
yup, matter of time tbh
I think something that'd be great is some miombo woodlands as those are a common fixture of Southern Africa
In Southern Africa, the baboons are chacma baboons
Also I'd like to see vervet monkeys added if that's possible
vervets would be cool,
and thanks for the correction, confused them cause they're so similar at a glance
i want elephants!
What would the forest/grass cover of this area be like?
Baboons are basterds
thicker foresty areas towards the mountains, open savannah in the flat areas with trees sorrounding the lakes and watering holes, like a proper oasis
@mighty rampart what's your take on this concept
And the river will be pretty shallow i suppose?
Looks awsome, and looks like Africa. River is Awsome lots of nice small drinking zones away from the river. Along with a more mountainous area to the south
Is that heavy brush like Mississippi Acres or more open woodlands like Emerald Coast?
Looks really good,
Almost at 1k!!!!!!
parts of it kinda like we already have in vurhonga in the western part of it, and some parts maybe acacia trees or something
TEN MORE LIKES COME ON PEOPLE
I ''gamified'' your map 😄
Very amateur but I think it looks pretty nice
I love that, only one change is the island with the little lake on it, I'd love that to be accessible as like a little phenomenon of the reserve, like one of those flag icons for points of interest or whatever they are called
Moved the POIs on the river a bit
I think there shouldn't be a road leading to it, shallow water should do the trick
Im also still thinking about adding something in the middle part of the map, as it feels a bit empty
it would be cool like a hidden little paradise oasis which you didn't know you could access until you did
Final version (atleast for now)
Looks even better, good work!
If your thinking about things to add, we get a lot of old dams here from the 70s that are abandoned/ no longer controlled.
Could be that the southern half of the map has less water and therefore more dry. While the north has a sizeable amount of water and is more lush and green. A dam of course limiting the flow of the river, found in the center of the map
Anyone good at Reserve logos?
Thinking the big 5 all looking outwards from the badge
That's really cool, I might add some of it in there for variety
I could try to make a logo once I am home in an hour or two
wait since when are girrafes not part of the big five?
Never had been, which I’ve always found strange.
Leopards and buffalo are not especially large
Giraffes don’t go out of their way to kill you if you make a bad shot
What would the actual name of this reserve be, I can make a logo/label for it
*Izilo Zasendulo *
Bembezi I think
Originally BEMBEZI game reserve
But again it’s all neither here nor there. Want the species the most
I think it might be hard to stick the entire big 5 inside the logo tho, I feel like elephants should be the main face of the reserve
How about a pair of crossed tusks for the logo? Maybe some lion footprints around the bottom?
how about something similar to this art i found in artstation- Tiago Oliveira
that looks sweet
hey I made some changes to the region borders based on how I imagined it while making the map, would love it if you could apply it into your game version map
not sure what to name the mountains so for now they are just unnamed, also these would jdut be the main 6 regions, they would all be split into smaller ones of course, just like in every other map we have in the game
only 7 away from 1,000!
6!

lmk if you'd have any name ideas for the mountains (or anyone else here ofc)

africa 2.0 before amazon map?
a good friend of mine was actually the 1001st like lol
well I mean there is a precedent for hunting in Africa while hunting in brazil is mostly illegal poaching done by loggers and smugglers 💀
the story contractor should be a drug dealer.
mission #5: fetch the cocaina leaves
There’s like three animals that would be above class 4…
Well, white lipped peccary, black caiman, jaguar, and tapir make four; you could also justify giant anteaters and rhea for 5 or 6
Dont forget the marsh deer as well
and apes
oooh jaguar would be cool..
Nope, good try though
monkeys, the only living apes are in Africa and Asia lol
capuchin pet, spots animals for you
could even be backfilled with the tiger system to Rancho since they range up thru Mexico and into the White Mountains in Arizona
White lipped peccary Class 3
Rhea Class 3
Black Caiman could arguably be class 3
Tapir Class 6
Jaguar 7
oh my LORD
wait there are jaguars in arizona?
yes, including a dominant 220lb+ male named El Jefe (The Boss) that regularly hunts and kills adult black bears
I agree with this except for black caiman being class 3, they should be 5 since adults max out around 1,000lbs and 6m or 20ft in length, which is comparable to an American alligator just not as bulky
Spectacled caiman could def be class 3 tho, maximum adult weight of 90lbs
el jefe aint piss i can take him
dawg it killed a 450lb black bear by crushing its skull like a walnut
nothing an anti-materiel rifle cant kill
Nilgai.
you just need an electonic remote distressed fawn caller :>. I'll make a carpet out of el jefe
Distressed cub call
or just lace some bait food with heroin
Heck yeah 1,000!!!🎉🎆🎇🎉

This is a legendary moment! 🇬🇳 🐘 🎉
EW The community has vote, this map will be the next one. 🙏
Unfortunately, I believe that votes don't matter for maps. My theory is that they put those that get more than 200 votes and put them on a roulette wheel. 😭
Neither, they take it into consideration, like what they did with EC, based on an old but great map idea, it was transformed into a outback map idea though since EC was announced.
I wish discord had the option to filter by number of votes, curious to know who is the second and third most voted after Africa 2.0
Pretty sure it’s https://discord.com/channels/393040947006406657/1070045518002147458
I'm pretty sure the British Columbia map is third most if we are only talking maps. I won't be rude to Wellington and post it on here but I will bump it up so you can see it.
If they do bring Jaguar into play, I’d bet they’d up that class seven to a nine just for how little that first shot is going to be worth in the first few endless seconds. 🫠
It really depends on how they want the map to play out, but any lower than Class 7 means they didn’t do their research.
Dropping a comment to up this! Also recently started playing the Savanna Map and damn I do love Africa
ONE THOUSAND LIKES!! This is so surreal to see, and it all started because Jaxy said on one of the streams that we don't make enough noise for Africa 2.0 with Big Five!
We absolutely MADE the noise, and we just might brought the release of this map to a lot sooner than when they were planning to make it!
I am proud of us as a community for this achievement
and considering they are currently working on the community weapon pack, assuming they aren't already working on a different new map at the same time, could we have possibly made this map the very next to be added?
I would place my money on second after next
If they take something this major to heart it's probably a 2+ year project
That would be nice, even tho I doubt it, cause earlier this year devs said on the stream that they have a roadmap for next year/year and half and Africa 2.0 is not there, so this map might not be the June 2025 map, but I have a HIGH feeling that this will be the June 2026 map and the Arctic Canada will be June 2027
it better not be, I'm gonna be away for college then and won't be able to play it ☠️☠️
pain
gonna rely on flinter videos to experience it
I’d swap it personally, Winter 2025 for Arctic and Summer 2027 for Africa makes more sense.
Jaxy said in one of the streams that Arctic is a new idea, so it's not on the current roadmap, just like Australia was a new idea back in 2019 and wasn't on that roadmap.
Now knowing this current roadmap ends as devs said by the end of 2025, they will make the new roadmap then, and I guarantee both Africa 2.0 and Arctic will be on that.
My guess again, Africa 2.0 in June 2026/27 and Arctic in June 2027/28
We need to embrace the fact that we have some waiting to do 😔
question is what did they have in store originally, and what are we getting next summer?
New?!?!? People have been asking for a Arctic map since atleast 2019?!?!
I suppose "new" in the sense of an actually consolidated idea instead of children shreiking "give us polar bears!!!!" without any direction or cohesiveness
There’s quite a few great ideas across the multiple subreddits which do have EW moderating and always have as far as I’m aware.
Hm, then i have no idea lol
I just might have cracked that, back in January 2020, they released a survey and there was one question asking what map would we like to see ...
All in that list happened starting the summer of that year until we got the Asian environment this summer, the only remaining are Africa and Tropical/Reinforest, now if this question was actually their new roadmap, and we know Africa won't happen until 2026, my guess is that the June 2025 map will be Jungle, most likely https://discord.com/channels/393040947006406657/1207357430963507281
(Luckily I took a screenshot of it on my phone before choosing Australia lol)
Well, I was personally asking for it, but it wasn't as big of a request as it is now
Weird that they included Farm alongside New Zealand, despite not having farms on Te Awaroa😂
very intriguing
Makes me wonder if Sundarpatan with tigers and snow leopards was a preempt for tropical Brazil or Surinames with jaguars, caiman, and tapirs
Lol yea, and New Zealand literally came out that year in December
and then SRP and Rancho followed suit along with (now) Sundar to act for semitropical Asia
at least I think I got that order right
Survey - January 2020
SRP (Rockies) - June 2020
Te Awaroa (New Zealand) - December 2020
Rancho (Desert) - June 2021
Mississippi - December 2021
Revontuli Coast - June 2022
NEM (Appalachian) - December 2022
Australia - June 2023
Sundarpatan (Asia) - June 2024
ah so slightly backwards from what it was, but that still means somewhere tropical might be next
or they wildcard the hell out of us and hit us with like, the West/Central Asiatic steppe with Argali
Sounds like my Central Asia 2.0 Reserve Concept (I called it Central Asia 2.0 because it was a massive remake of another Central Asian Reserve of mine)
would be absolutely fire, Argali are a bucket list animal for me
We finally made it guys
Will write something to celebrate the 1000 at some point today,
Exactly, we’re the loudest voice here, by miles
So, I’ve been thinking about elephant respawn times?
How long do we all think it should be? Maybe a few hours, taking into the fact elephants take YEARS to get to the point where a permit might be issued? But that’s just a thought.
Think that given tigers are at 30m we should go for 15-20
I completely forgot tigers had a 15 minute respawn time, they made it seem like it was wayyyy longer. That’s fair.
I’d even argue that elephants don’t need a respawn time, they’re legally shot over most of Southern Africa.
Oooo. Look at that. Over 1000 up votes. Well done everyone! 🎉
💯
They have already started working on the map because it has a larger scope, that's for sure, modeling and animating weapons is not difficult, so it should take a back seat in their dev cycle, the focus over the course of a year is on animals and the map (that's what every studio does), we can only hope they're doing Africa 🙏
I can assume that the game will still receive 3 maps in its lifetime, 1 we don't know, Arctic and Africa 2.0 🤔
1010
I'm patient, I go fishing 😂
I missed it but 1k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What surprise do you have for 1000 @mighty rampart you said you had something a while back
…Let the man cook
Just some cool art to help celebrate 1017 likes 😎💪
Gotta borrow one of these for the Roosevelt pack thread, thank you!
Gentlemen the big number has been achieved,
1000 upvotes is no small number
We were told, many months ago on stream by Jaxi, that they didn’t think we wanted another Africa map, and that we did not make enough noise. We were not going to take that and therefore took action.
6 months on we have made a lot of noise, which is all down to all of your discussion, debate and discourse on this suggestion posts. We are now the loudest part of the community, let’s keep this up.
Thanks to all of you, we have made a massive impact on the communtiy, Africa 2 is brought up by many people during live streams, some are even making more suggestions for different areas on the continent such as the Cameroon.
The regulars who are often here deserve a mountain of praise, keeping the discussion flowing and igniting it with further suggestions and ideas.
Over the coming week we will make more noise on stream, let’s here what Jaxy has to say about our momentous goal.
Keep up the good work, let’s say 2000 by Christmas?
-Wellington out

Hey, can we get a Mod in here to pin Wellington's comment? A good speech oughta be recorded for posterity
Thank you!
that speech got me feeling like
Bringing up the concept map again
Does anyone have a suggestion for region names? Mainly the two unnamed mountains 😅
Map looks Awsome now, I’ll have a think today
For the mountain at the bottom of the map, how about Bembezi? It was the original name of this map idea which has become so much more in such a short time.
By the way, at least one of those camps better be named after Wellington he started this campaign so he deserves some credit
wondering what people think bout having an over kilometre long rope bridge across the entire canyon from one end to the other
Honestly? Yeah, why not, it adds something on the map that would make for an interesting land mark and potential long and difficult shots. Besides, rope bridges are In several maps already so it's not a foreign concept
Would be an Awsome landmark
Consider the dam, and perhaps some abandoned lodge structures on the map, story could be from old farmsteads that existed before the fences were taken down and the wildlife was reintroduced
maybe a dam here with the water behind it raised to the next marked elevation level, about 10 metres higher than the rest of the river
and it explains why the rest of the river is inside that mini canyon inside the big canyon, the smaller one used to all be filled with water until the dam was built
You could have a broken dugout canoe along the canyon wall below the dam to show a little human history in the area, like the cave painting in Vurhonga.
"Consider this proof that hippos have always been dangerous, be careful my friend " sort of lines from the Warden
I could totally see hyenas being a class 5 animal. Since most deer species are four and hyenas are quite big.
With the story missions, if rhinos were added as well (or just leave elephants) it could follow the path of poachers who want ivory or a rhinos horn. Definitely a real issue.
already exists in vurhonga, the last rhino
Oh, my apologies. I never completed vurhonga’s missions.
That loos cool! But I think a map like this should be a little bigger than that, cause it is once in a life undertaking
I'm aware that the scaling isn't exactly 1:1, it's just a proof of concept I'd say
Other factors play to this such as the icons being a bit bigger than usual and the roads using thicker lines
Think south should e the drier part, perhaps dam could have a road running over the top of it, as marked on the lower part of the river
Or a Zipline. 🤷♂️
No harm in making another anti poaching themed set of missions,
Perhaps this time highlighting the differences between substance poaching and commercial.
Most people putting down snares are just trying to feed themselves
-Have a few missions about finding giraffe and hippo snares.
-Reaching a mountain to report gunshots
-following poachers tracks again to poachers kitchens
-finding rhino horn stash/ illegal firearms
-checking fences for break ins
And if they could animate it- freeing some small game from snares
Who is Jaxy and why do we care about him/her?
I was gonna ask you, how many elephants and how many rhinos you think should be on the map? Should they be in all of the map or like Tigers on Nepal in certain part of the map
Community manager that does the streams and a lot of other stuff here on discord
so the face of the company basically
maybe adding a special mission with a tranquilazer gun to release some higher class animal from a snare
Interesting
is it?
I can say for certain that the Terai region in game is not at all the proper habitat for Indian Rhinos. They prefer open grasslands and agricultural fields, not dense jungles with sparsely pocked open areas.
Male elephants are aggressive and solitary, I would put 6 elephants spread across the map as it would be really challenging, miss a vital shot and get crushed or hit 🐘 and take the glory of the trophy
Better idea would be 2 or 3 female only herds, and 6 or 7 solo bulls that wander the map by themselves.
I agree, it would be dynamic like that
Bulls in territories and herds wandering? Could be interesting
a small edit to the tropy lodge would allow adding class 10 easily, I believe here it is 4 meters high, enough for elephant and hippo.
Pool table we can't play pool on? Or life size bull elephant? Don't think that's much of a choice in the end lol
For idiot who DMd me. Yes, elephant.
The main room is arguably plenty of space for class 10, they’d just need to change up the mounts a bit.
hunters: umm, I want to put my animals here
game: no way, settle for this useless pool table
hunters:
Honestly? If you can get over the fence outside the lodge there's a ton of empty space that could be expanded on for a larger trophy hall
Keep them mixed, maybe a similar limit to tigers for rhinos.
No limits for elephants, but maybe less zones than normal.
Not quite right, only aggressive when in musk. Young males tend to form small groups
I do think they could go aggressive, as a "fun" thing
exactly, for gameplay context
Getting charged by an elephant would be crazy cool for the game
Absolutely happens if you get close enough to them.
They have a 20m fight zone. (Rough average)
So get within that and you have a fairly good chance at getting mock charged
This is typically where most shots are taken irl
got me feelin like:
hunters together strong typa deal
or Call of the Wild together strong idk lmao
@mystic token see what languages are spoken in Southern Zimbabwe
Something like that
yeah
Elephants are gonna be so much fun
What do y'all think of vervet or green monkeys as a class 1? They be like raccoons on Mississippi Acres, causing a little mischief here and there but otherwise just a unique small game animal running around
I despise vervets with a passion, throw em in as class one and let me use the nitro on them
Not something I expected to hear from you if I'm honest. . .
Are they that bad?
2 seems fine, most take them with .22-250 and .243 it seems.
i've heard them described as baboon but smaller and more evil
A monkey with Napoleon Syndrome? Now I'm gonna have to look up more about them
I gather their behavior basically makes them a south african macaque since they steal people's stuff, break into homes to steal their stuff, and I think attack children sometimes
nothing super serious but they'll like bite a baby
and again, to reiterate what I've said about baboons, any monkey that bites my hypothetical child is gonna get punted into the sun
I just found a handful of accounts of them hanging around camps like rats and figured it would be a fun small game animal you'd see in groups
well i mean it would be a fun small game animal regardless, they're just annoying little bastards IRL
All the more reasons to include them
Yes
Wasn't expecting people to immediately go to class 2 with buckshot and the. 243 tho, they look small enough for a .22
They’re surprisingly tough animals. I’ve seen one tank a hit from a 270 before….not for very long but still
Fair enough, I don't really mind what class they are just had an idea for smaller game
Yeah, they’re error, always breaking into stuff and shutting everywhere. Attacking people etc
Horrible things
Kinda like the Baboons? I hear they’re a massive issue in South Africa, tearing up shingles and breaking into kitchens.
Worse than baboons, by a good stretch.
Jesus…they’re really that bad. And I thought that the Raccoons and Skunks here were pests.
I like this idea very much but i think the reason they dont wanna make it because "it will inspire people to go kill those animals and blah blah" but would be very cool if they added elephants and giraffes
That used to be their excuse, but you know
Tigers
Snow leopards
Yeah but with these we would need new weapons to kill a god damn elephant
Well, we're getting a .375 in the winter update and we have a .470 nitro express so we'll have weapons.
.470 might actually see some use as something other than a meme weapon
Would be good just if they dont add som bows that can kill an elephant🤣
And i hate to br a guy like this but why does literally any weapon/map gotta be a dlc
Money.
Well….
Well sh*t, nevermind then I guess. . .
We have .470, 9.3, .454, and all the bows… we don’t need much else other than a few high caliber bolt actions and a couple lever actions (.458LOTT, .416 Rigby, .318 Westley Richards, .585 Nyati, .405 Winchester, etc etc)
That's enough that I don't think I'm gonna bother with the update. I haven't played much at all since Sundarpatan came out and ruined my save so if they aren't at least doing something to fix it then I might as well uninstall
No one is going to be inspired to blow $30,000 on a hunting trip to sa by playing the hunter COTW.
Don’t be silly
That’s on level with saying GTA makes children shoot people.
It’s just bollocks
But even if someone was inspired to hunt in Africa. How’s that bad? The money going into the reserves keeps them going and keeps a haven for the species there.
They changed their stance on that almost a year ago, it’s a silly thought.
Bow hunting elephant is a real thing
Idk if you play way of the hunter but if you do, what did they get right about Africa that vurhonga didn't? If anything?
I mean it would be cool shooting a diamond elephanz
New idea for a multi mount!! Similar to the lions and the Cape buffalo, have it be an elephant instead. Maybe throwing a lion in the air with their tusks?
Yra
Just a dime bull standing on a lions head 😆
Bad idea
Should they introduce new guns for the big 5?
Yeah, that’s kind of a necessity.
Opinion: replace FMJs for brass solids with the .470 and buff it
Add either a .600 NE double rifle for the gigantic stuff or one of the huge belted/unbelted magnum cartridges, like .416 weatherby or .416 rigby
We already have the caliber weapons for them the problem is they are underpowered with small punch power.
