#Lay Down Distance Increase

If you use a dog, you know that they spook prey if you don't have them lay down. Issue is that for hunters like me, it can be rather difficult to get them to stay while you crawl into place. I personally like to get 30m or less to my intended target and try to leave the dog 100m out. However it always tries to follow me enough that I don't even use my dog during a hunt 9 times out of 10 so I don't have to spend my time worrying if the dog will get up and get to close.

I'm not sure what the distance limit is right now but even 15m would be a huge improvement.

I do apologize that this is not very detailed, I'm not great at getting my thoughts into words. Hopefully other community members feel the same and can translate it better.

The “stay” distance is like 80m iirc

Won't let me save an edit to the post but it's supposed to say +15m but my phone autocorrected it.

Also, thank you for that. It's something to keep in mind if I do take my Bloodhound with me

There's a misconception by many (users and mods) that the dog alerts animals at anywhere up to 50 metres.

I thought this for a long time but it was not consistent and didn't make sense.

Because it is not true. The only thing that spooks animals is you moving. If an animal has 'alerted' it is because it detected your movement. The dog really has to make contact with the animal to have an affect. It can be running around you and, as long as you don't budge an inch, many of species will walk up to within metres of you before fleeing. Some species will be alerted sooner than others. Waterfowl will land right on you before immediately flying off, regardless of whether the dog is laying down or not. But it is suggested to lay him down, so that's I do for now until I can confirm that he has any affect on waterfowl. From what I can tell, if the labrador is returning with a kill and runs through a landing flock then he will spook them.

Is there a way to officially confirm this? Not asking to be rude, just genuinely curious.

Yes, the design leader has already confirmed it in a devstream, the dogs only spook animals when they are really close, at least 3-5 meters away.

Last week, whilst prone, and perfectly still with my dog running around, a level 5 diamond reindeer walked up to me within about 30 metres before becoming nervous. I had been distracted from the screen for few minutes so was not moving at all when I heard it approach. The moving dog had no affect on it. If I had just tapped my controller's left stick I would have nudged just a fraction and spooked the animal to flee. If the moving dog doesn't spook a level 5 at 30 metres then I can't see anything spooking the animal, other than myself.
