#OPTIONAL Anti cheat mod/filter

I did a quick search regarding the use of cheats and couldn't find anything related to this, which surprised me as I know it can be what I call a 'Marmite' subject!! ( It's a saying in the UK which means you either like it, or you don't! ).

Since I started playing COTW in December '22 I've been caught out by them a few times, in the beginning I didn't know any better. I saw people going around on level 200+ not knowing the max was 60 and running across lakes at the speed of a bullet! Recently I was talking with someone on a server about trying to get a GO Red Deer, they told me they'd had one not long ago and showed me where on their map, I made my way there and was amazed to find one stood there. It wasn't until I harvested it I realized they had cheated it in. To say I was annoyed is an understatement!

Now I'm not against mods/cheats, if you want to use them, that's fine it's up to you.

What I AM against and what I want to stop is people coming onto my server and using cheats and mods.

If you want to use cheats, take them to a private server just for people that want to use them. They are spoiling the game for people that don't want them and want nothing to do with them.

So can we have something that will block cheats/mods on public servers please? If players want to use cheats make it so they can only use them privately so they don't ruin the game for everyone else.

Hi @inland knoll ,

We are very sorry to read that you experienced this behavior in our game, this is not the type of experience we strive to deliver to our community.

I will pass your suggestion on adding an optional anti-cheat/mod feature to the rest of our team for consideration.

If you have any other ideas on what you'd like to see in the game, please feel free to share them with us!

The best anti cheat would be the level cap to enter and create a multiplayer game, that the Maximum Level is 60.
That will discourage and keep cheaters away

Cheaters can just increase their level whenever they want to with relative ease. I don’t think that’s a solid method of keeping them away

#

Also, it prevents new players from being able to go into multiplayer

I seen a level 701 player the other day lol

Until a new player reaches level 60, they are unable to access multiplayer which people often use to test out other maps before purchasing them

Pretty sure it was stated before that the game engine is too old for them to be able to implement an anticheat.

If they know they can't fix it then it's time to wear it straight and up-front without shame: put huge warnings to all users whenever they are launching or joining public lobbies, that the game has not and cannot have anti-cheat anytime in the near future and that they are NOT held accountable for corrupted saves, glitched trophies, wasted time, or otherwise ruined experiences.

#

No anti-cheat due to engine technical debt and financial practicalities? That's fine, sure. Can happen anywhere. Anti-cheats can be very hard to implement or afford, even with pre-existing solutions.

But please be straight, be honest, be open. Adding a message window costs 5 man-minutes. If something that is expected from almost all shooter games does not exist and will not exist, and the consequences for it can stretch out indefinitely, then the users (and especially new players) should be warned upfront in big print.

There are possible anti cheat measures that can be obtained without having anti cheat.
I posted a suggestion to add Hunt Clubs, basically a clan system where players can join up with people and control who they play with. Usually with those systems the leader of the clan controls who is a member and determines rules in place. It could help a bit to allow players to build their own small communities. Than they could steer away from public lobbies.
