Dint leave out that the "Ammo update" only applied to the pistol, it has a shorter zero than the pistol despite more than double the barrel length and both are shadowed by the .44 lever gun From the same company with the same type of receiver that uses ALL the scopes normally

Because, I honestly don't remember people asking for tigers and snow leopards but as long as I've been in the discord I've seen people begging for an Arctic map with polar bears.

I wouldn't be surpirsed if this map is a combination of the Northwest Territories, Yukon Territory, Northern BC & Northern Alberta

It would explain the trees and beavers and it would still allow us to get our polar bears

The first image is a map of Canada's polar bear populations and the second image features the distribution of beavers

muted ledge
# nimble smelt I wouldn't be surpirsed if this map is a combination of the Northwest Territorie...

I mean, theoretically a purely NWT map could have both Polar Bears and Beavers, but the fact that this will actually be the first map to introduce Beavers (as an actual animal and not just an error message) seems to imply a little more influence from B.C. in my opinion. Which, along with the mostly taiga (and not open tundra) landscape we've seen so far, pushes me toward it being a combination of many different provinces and locales in western Canada.

#

but I guess we'll know more about this map and it's location when we actually get more real information on it

nimble smelt

#

yeah for sure, I'm just sort of speculating. I'm sure we'll know more about the new map soon enough.

nimble smelt
# hardy osprey Yes, but also whitetail and elk are, at leats in the Yukon

But White-tailed Deer are on too many maps right now and the Rocky Mountain elk population in the Yukon is rather small as they only live between Whitehorse, Carmacks and Haines Junction with a population of around 300 split between 2 herds.

In otherwords, if Rocky Mountain Elk were to be on a map based on the Yukon & Northwest Territories, they would have to have a limited population in the southern parts of the map, though I wouldn't be surprised if the only cervids on the map end up being caribou and moose with some mule deer

# torpid dune With the Community, COTW was been abandoned for a long time.

The only good reason for that would be the ending of the Jaxy streams, the last dlc was made according to what we wanted. multiple maps have been made according to our liking, and polls asking for advice on game improvement still occur. They are also active in these feedback threads to see what we want. I don’t get your point

wary barn
#

This might be a slightly unpopular opinion, but is anyone else a bit disappointed that the new reserve doesn’t appear to be one vast, frozen wasteland?

I was kind of hoping for some smaller taiga or mountainous regions in the south to support species like Dall sheep and wood bison. And now that I think about it I also feel that Call of the Wild’s gameplay isn’t really suited to wide, open maps, especially given the relatively short animal render distance.

Still, I was really hoping the map would primarily feature high Arctic tundra and more expansive coastal areas, rather than the mountainous taiga we’ve seen in the previews. It would have made the reserve feel so much more distinct compared to any others we’ve had so far.

We might still get some tundra, but judging by the (albeit incredibly blurry) map shown in the first preview image, it looks like coastal areas might be quite limited.

#

Honestly for taiga areas, I was hoping for nothing more heavily forested than this image:

No map was made according to community requests, everything was in line with what EW had planned, the release order of each map does not coincide at all with the community requests at that time, they always maintained their secrecy.
What they introduced may have coincided with what 2 or 3 people mentioned in a thread, threads in which only the genuinely interested 10 or 20 people participate and contribute content, not the entire community.

If they really wanted the community to decide then they would build the Roadmap and let the entire community participate by contributing ideas.

daring tapir
# crimson glen No map was made according to community requests, everything was in line with wha...

When they had a vote for what map to be next before Sundarpatan it became emerald coast because people voted for it, i believe this map will be made according to what we want, should’ve added if it wasn’t clear, they ain’t letting us run their company and their ideas, but we help them with it. Just because everything doesn’t go like we want it to doesn’t they don’t take inspiration and tips from us, because it’s clear that they do. Otherwise there is not much point for this thread or any other to exist don’t you think?

#

So forgive me if i was unclear

torpid dune
wary barn
#

Do we actually know how often EW reads through the feedback forum? Or if they ever take players ideas into consideration? I feel if they did, maps such as Emerald Coast and Sundarpatan would have been much better maps than they are.

For example, considering how diverse and well researched Moosedragon’s Nepalese reserve concept was, I was expecting a lot more from Sundarpatan’s species selection.

It feels like any similarities (of which there are few) are entirely coincidental.

daring tapir
daring tapir

Not saying EC and Sundar are bad maps, they were both very well received by the community. They both could have been better though imo.

crimson glen
#

I don't expect them to let us decide which maps to create, but at least include the community as part of the design and content. If we had a Roadmap and a Thread for each Future Release, the ideas would be focused in one place and direction.

What I say now is just my assumption, because I was not part of those conversations, but I think we would need to get quite a few technical improvements in the game before we'll be able to give an excellent hunting experience on an arctic map with all the species you would expect to see there. Arctic map in the future is not completely off the table, but I am sure devs would hate to give you a half-baked reserve in this location. It's a similar situation to Africa 2.0. Some tech can really hold us back at this point and things take more time to make.

Agreed with you. Sundar is Top 3 for me, but I've noticed some glaring issues:

  • Upper left corner is too barren, since Tahr aren't there. So much GORGEOUS landscape w/ far too few animals, other than Yak and Sheep.

  • Speaking of... they badly needed a second Sheep species. Blue Sheep are awesome, but they're EVERYWHERE. They get repetitive, so a 2nd species would've helped a ton.

  • The bottom river delta is barren too often, particuularly in the morning. You can run the entire thing and see maybe a handful of animals or less... needs more animal variety.

  • Himalayan Bear would've pushed this map over the top!

(It may be and we don't know lol). But if the lacking render distance prevents a community passion request like an Arctic map from happening, or whatever challenges you mentioned about Africa 2.0... then maybe it's time.

Save those ideas for a new sequel. This game has given us enough, if it can't deliver all of our big (and reasonable) wishes.

I think the problem is the grizzly. It seems simple. The devs take a grizzly, change the skin and a polar bear is ready. Many animals in the game are made in this way. I would also hope the BC Map gets some North American Grouse, after all it has Ruffed, Spruce, Sharp-tailed, Sooty and Dusky Grouse

This has been my coping mechanism since the polar bear news. It'd be legit if we get remodels of Grizzly/Caribou/Elk/Wolf, etc.

It'd feel like Summer 2025 would be the "Old Animals Get Remastered" update, and the remodels would improve other NA reserves too. So if that occurs + 5ish new species, then I'm in on this map.

...

Still should've been Arctic lol

If they can find a way without doing that, go right ahead. Add moose to the new reserve (not like I’ll be in the lowlands much anyways lmao)

I'm coming to terms with yet another moose map but I hope they at least have less spawns. I swear I see more moose in Layton than deer of either species. If there was only 25 moose in a map I'd absolutely adore it. They are big, solitary, hard to find animals, but every map they exist on I feel like I'm tripping over them

Well well, like many of you I was expecting our first reserve to be set in the Canadian Arctic and yet I am quite surprised to see this reserve set in my home province of Alberta, Canada

Despite that I would like to thank the community for their continued support for the past 2 years for the dream of a Canadian Arctic Reserve, it is no wonder this concept is the second most supported reserve concept after Africa 2.0

Now of course my species list and redrawn map were made with the now incorrect assumption that the new map was going to be set in British Columbia, now I have an excuse to redraw that map and fix up the species list a bit to once again represent the Northwest Territories

I still hope that one day we may get to hunt animals like Polar Bear, Dall’s Sheep, Walrus and Muskox on a Canadian Arctic Reserve in this game

(Can this get pinned in this thread please)

There were reworks that were necessary and highly requested, they already clarified that they cannot work on redesigns of old weapons or animals unless they are within new content (DLC) so to make the current ones they had to choose a map new where these animals live.
This will continue to happen as there are still requests for animal reworks.

Yeah I do roll my eyes a bit at the people saying EW shouldve just done reworks without a new map. Reworks still take time and money, which new maps provide / garentee I’m sure a lot more.

I do still wish we’d get new maps in under explored areas still over new maps focusing on reworks ATP given the whole continent of Africa and South America only have ONE each. Then when those have at least two do rework hefty maps like this one.

But yeah agreed, I’m still looking forward to the map given some of the reworks on this are some of the ones I’ve been waiting for, for quite a while.

Well I didn't really have to redraw a map, I just had to fix one up by removing some old lines and adding ice floes. This map fits not only Polar Bear, Muskox, Dall's Sheep, Walrus and Seal but also the Stones Sheep

Welcome to Whiterime Ridge Wilderness hunter, I understand you have hunted in Canada before, but this won't be a walk in a park compared to most other hunting destinations in North America. This reserve offers some of the best hunting the Northwest Territories has on offer weather your hunting Dall's sheep in the mountains, stalking a herd of muskox in the Barren-grounds or lining up that perfect shot on a walrus bull resting on an ice floe, you will always find something to hunt here. Now of course we should warn you that this reserve is also home to many dangerous animals like the aforementioned muskox and walrus (And don't underestimate the walrus, they can cover ground rather quickly and those tusk have killed larger predators) but also the Grizzly bear and the beast we refer to as the King of the North: the Polar Bear, the only bear species that will actively hunt humans just like they would a ringed seal, you better have a powerful rifle and a good eye when hunting in their territory.

This revamped version is based on the Kitikmeot Region of Nunavut and the Inuvik and Sahtu Regions of the Northwest Territories and the northern parts of the Yukon Territory

New Animal Mechanics

  • Caribou, Moose and Polar Bear can swim, this would also be applied to Water Buffalo
  • Seals and Walrus will utilize the ice floes to rest and keep their distance from hunters

Returning Species

  • Grizzly Bear (Remodel)
  • Moose
  • Snow Geese
  • Rock Ptarmigan

New Species

  • Polar Bear: Class 9
  • Walrus: Class 9
  • Muskoxen: Class 7 or 8
  • Barren-ground Caribou: Class 6
  • Arctic Wolf: Class 5
  • Dall's Sheep: Class 4
  • Stone's Sheep: Class 4
  • Canada Lynx: Class 2
  • Ringed Seal: Class 2
  • North American Porcupine: Class 2
  • Wolverine: Class 2
  • Arctic Fox: Class 2
  • King Eider
  • Cackling Goose
  • Spruce Grouse
  • Arctic Hare
  • Hoary Marmot
#

I did say I was working on a reworked species list

#

And here is the distribution of Stone's (Green) and Dall's Sheep (Red)

Why not just have them both in the same area?

nimble smelt
# daring tapir Why not just have them both in the same area?

First of all they sort of inhabit different mountain ranges irl with Stone’s Sheep being found further south while Dall’s sheep live further north

Secondly, the idea to have them inhabit different mountains on the map was inspired by the Spanish Ibex on Cuatro where each subspecies inhabits a different mountain

New Weapons: Inuit Cable-backed Bow and the 280 Ross Straight-pull Rifle (As a reward weapon)

  • The mission for the 280 Ross Straight-pull Rifle involves finding a missing hunter (That unfortunately passed away)
  • The 280 Ross is based on the Canadian Ross Rifle and would be a Class 3 to 7 Rifle
  • The Cable-backed Bow would only cost 20,000 ingame credits and can utilize the same arrows that the Longbow can use

New Weapon Pack: Arctic Hunter Pack

  • Reverse Draw Crossbow: A crossbow that is more powerful and can shoot at longer ranges accurately.
  • 17 HMR Lever-action Rifle (Class 1 to 2): A rifle that will be suitable for hunting species like Beaver and Lynx, it can hold 11 Rounds
  • 9.3x74R Over/Under Rifle (Class 5 to 9): A powerful double-barreled rifle, this weapon can be quite useful against animals like Polar Bear and Cape Buffalo

Some other details that could come with this reserve

  • With Stone's and Dall's Sheep on this map, it would be the perfect opportunity to remake the Bighorns on Rancho into Desert Bighorn Sheep
    • This would allow for the Grand Slam of Sheep Multi-mount featuring all 4 North American Sheep
  • Grizzly Bears and Caribou would defiantly be getting remodels
  • Another major must-do would be buffing the 45-70 Coachmate to be the hand-cannon it was meant to be
  • The 270 and 6.5 Rifles could be re-classed as Class 3 to 7 or 8 Rifles

Maps I would rather see in this games future then another European or Lower 48 US Map

  • Canadian Arctic (Whole reason I made this thread)
  • Africa 2.0 with the Dangerous 7
  • Central Asia (Argali, Markhor, Saiga, Ibex)
  • South American Rainforest (Peru or the Guianas would work)
  • African Plains Game map
  • African Small Game map (Duikers, Small Predators, Birds, etc)
