I’ve circled trees twice, drowned myself twice, and taken shots at both the moon and sun twice. I might be losing it. I have an internal map of the spawn locations that I believe covers pretty much the entire map above the waterline, but the spawn mechanics still baffle me and probably always will. Ben can we get another hint at what makes it spawn I know there is 0 haggis on my map currently

I’m starting to think it’s random too, based on the info I have. I can see the spawn locations, and the entire top half of the map is covered, yet there’s not a single haggis in sight. Maybe everyone commented on a Facebook post? But that wouldn’t make sense since the developers wouldn’t know the exact gamertag.

Next I am going to try shooting a red deer with a 22 and tracking it forever "Going on a mission" to find it and see if that works

I actually didn't find any of my zones at all until I had most of my barrels down! I used ibuys guide for a starter reference and just dropped my barrels where i remembered seeing pigs for a good start

You do have to give them a couple days sometimes to find the feeders and start coming to them more regularly

If you go 3 days with nothing or only a couple solos, then shift it off elsewhere. I moved a couple of mine for better results but overall the zones have been pretty consistent for me

A couple reasons for me. One is it brings more than one zone to a single spot. Some of my feeders have over 20 pigs at times

The drink zones them self are difficult to hunt other than spotting I do know that. As well as the amount of time in drink zones vs the two feeding times

Second is having clear lines to shoot. I'm on Scotland so instead of hunting boar along the river where there's brush and trees, I'm pulling them out into the open where I can easily clear 3 pigs at a single feeder

To explain deeper into what he’s saying if you have the barrels within 500~meters of the drink zones it will pull them in during feed time so a singular barrel in the right spot will pull from several

So if they cross within the sniffin range while going from zone to zone, they'll come check it out

Close to drink zones just makes them arrive faster and easier to keep track of what you've got where

• I found him without any tents.

• I found him at 11:50 AM, but he was moving around and not in a specific zone.

• You can't lure the haggis with the feeder.

• Calls have no effect either.

• You can barely hear the haggis's call from 100 meters away.

• Even the Benelhag in my inventory doesn't help; I had the standard weapons like the Ranger with me.

Shoot a lot of them and I personally shoot females of a pair first and then the males, as they can't respawn unless both members of the pair are killed and harvested

If you don't succeed in killing the male, at least you'lle see it on the next time you hunt that zone

otherwise, it can get messy trying to figure which female was with the male that you killed and that will respawn only when the female he is or was associated with died

(Some foxes are solos too)

I would do all missions not because it makes it more likely but because a lot of them have you going around some of the areas a haggis might be found. It gives you a reason to travel around without exclusively hunting haggis. If you only want to do those first two that’s fine but don’t just wonder the map looking for the haggis it’ll drive you insane

A specific trigger or its just RNG... exists to spawn the haggis...I know its not crossing the river, doing mission 2, doing all the main missions, shooting red grouse, finding outposts, visiting outposts, sleeping till 3:54/15:54, and Using the benalhag...I dont know what the trigger is but it aint the above...I just know it aint on the map when any of the above got completed......Me and my sons walked my map...so 3 of us on it searching..

What if spawning the haggis has something to do with time

vivi's comment about the number 2 has a nice ring to it. I know most people think you have to do the two main story missions, but I think the ring part is another clue. I'm not sure what on the map can give a noise relevant to the number 2

I am 99.999% sure my map has not spawned the haggis...

I had my sons join me and the 3 of us scoured the map...no signs of the haggis...

there is something like a path, or something that triggers its spawn randomly.

ive tested every other theory

and there is no haggis on my map

19 days, 180 hours of searching, there is no haggis for sure

this was my map like 5 days ago,

more zones there now than then, especially since i got keen eye back

and there isnt a single zone on my map that doesnt house 2 or more animals most are 3-4 per

Exactly. There is some specific action/combination that causes it to spawn...not doing missions, not crossing river, not red grouse kills, not benalhag use, not haunted outpost...etc...those that have spawned the haggis are leaving some action they did out...

Or its just total RNG and we are truly on a snipe/haggis hunt...

It seems that time is a big factor into finding a haggis

It’s a cryptid, the first cryptid in the game. It’d make sense if it’s extremely rare

It's not that deep. The rhyme tells you exactly what the conditions are. Complete the second mission, you won't find a haggis before then.
After mission #2, there are no factors that influence spawn, it's pure RNG.
You might never get a haggis. That's part of the fun of it.

Does it matter? It's the second mission, first mission is go to castle, second is go to bagpipes. Not exactly a lot of work. So if it is the cause of the haggis, spawn, or it was intended to be but is bugged, you might as well just do it.

If I had to guess, I'd say completing the second mission is intended to activate the spawn.
Then whenever you kill and harvest and animal, there is a 1 in 10,000 chance for it to respawn as a haggis.

Thing is devs have discussed the spawn mechanic has never been used before:
animals have spawned after completing a mission numerous times in the past
