the in game 45-70 (crap imitation of reality that it is) is the 1895 model from Marlin, which has a flat top receiver that should the same scopes as the other rifles

An animal has to score higher than a medal’s score requirement to earn that medal. Furthermore, you have to pass all 4 harvest checks to receive the full medal, otherwise it will drop down one tier (gold -> silver)

For example, a moose’s diamond requirement is 274.99
A 285 scoring moose will make diamond provided you pass the harvest checks. A 262 scoring moose isn’t above the requirement so it will be a gold, since it passes the gold’s score requirement

Say you make a bad shot on a 295 scoring moose. You miss the vital organs and don’t pass that harvest check. What would’ve been a diamond moose will drop down to gold
