The .45-70 in game has balanced penetration and expansion, which barely any rifle has, has a stupidly fast reload and fire rate compared to other rifles. They reduced the range to balance it out
Sure it’s unrealistic that it’s underpowered but barely any rifle in game is as powerful as it should be

The base game weapons are designed to be very flexible. The 7mm, .243 and Cacciatore 12g alone can take every class in game, whereas DLC guns are much more specialized

Personally I'd go with Yukon just for rifle as you get the .300 magnum which is imo the best class 7 to 9 rifle. vs cuatro which has one of the worst 4 to 8 rifles in the 6.5, not necessarily a bad rifle just the ammo needs to be class 3 to 7 instead of 4 to 8 in order for it to be decently useful.
