Not in captivity. Their poison comes from certain insects (I think ants) that they eat in the wild. In captivity they feed solely on fruit flies and are thus safe.

#

Now idk if it’s completely safe like idk if it’s safe to just pop them in your mouth or anything but there definitely isn’t an issue with them compared to ones with a wild diet.

Nah they need the diet. If I fed these guys ants (or whatever insect give them the poison they would start producing poison for sure. Though once you stop, the poison works it’s way out of its system.

Hmm did more readingx seems you are correct with the alkaloid thing - a person who I worked with that was big in the rep/amphibian section of our work explained it the way I mentioned - but reading up further just now pointed as to what you said
