Thyme had to get fluids this morning. She has to be on extra calorie wet food as she has lost nearly 2lbs in 3 days… she also got antibiotics

They are both very underweight but Thyme has it the worst… hoping that she will recover fast. She got her own soft blanky as a gift and her own heating pad

omg what sweet little darlings, i wish i could have birbs like that, but i am, for the moment, stuck hand rearing pigeon rescues, (like kup, who ive posted here several times although now she is almost fully feathered ) ive always wanted a parrot of some kind, be it lovebird ( i think lovebirds are considered parrots ) or a conure, my mom suggested i get a macaw, but im not gonna dive headfirst into macaws ( although id love that, i know they require ALOT of care )

Having worked and raised everything from sparrows that fell out of a nest through to emus

I promise you a macaw is the equivalent of adopting a three year old, for forever

Ours has started to do tantrums if he doesn’t get the thing he wants, and thus has started biting to test his allowances. I dump him on his ass whenever he does it, very abruptly. 😂

To me, lovebirds are permanent terrorists

If you like the size but want big bird personality; look into parrotlets.
They’re the smallest true parrot - but still act like amazons and stuff

Caution with the kind of conure you get -
• Green cheeks are smallest, they come in a TON of colors.
• Crimson bellies are about the same size; I love them.
• Sun conures are next size category, but they permanently sound like blue jays and scream about everything (and that sound is an auditory knife)
• Jenday and Nanday are about the same size, and I’ve heard they’re either great or pure evil. No In between.
• Blue Crowns are angels, and aren’t as vocal once they get past baby stage. They’re probably the sweetest ones imo

• Golden Conures are also a thing, never seen one irl and never met anyone who has had one so I can’t give thoughts on them

same, i have more experience raising ostriches, rheas and a variety of wild birds ( including barn swallows ) hell, i even have my permit for canada geese, i think i might want to hand raise a parrot, since i hear its not that different from pigeons, i do like the size of the macaw, i dont feel like imma break them, that and its closer to my turkeys in size, therefore i feel more comfy, but i know they can be bitey demons at times, whats it like to be bit by a macaw? how bad is it? i know you shouldnt look them in the eyes

my local farm store has a blue and gold macaw named beemer, shes a real joy ( also a pain, because she screams "hello" at you when you walk in the door

ive also looked into falconry, since the topic has always interested me, and im working from home as a taxidermist, so id be available for the bird of prey i choose, i was thinking a kestrel or peregrine, possibly a red tail, as those are widespread in my area

Absolutely look them in the eyes.
You’re not trying to do a state down; but that’s your best indicator of their temperament. If you’re going to read a parrots body language, you need to be fully aware of any and all signals you might get.

Realistically, if size is important and you wanna do macaw one day, please don’t make it your first bird. Jump into conures, get a bigger one (blue crown, golden, whatever) and experience smedium sized ones

Or go for an Amazon and feel out large sized birds

Macaws are a whole other level of bird

It hurt but not devastatingly so.

Mostly hard pinches so far, though I’m fully aware the scarlet could have severed my fingers; she grabbed at the long point of my finger and not the knuckle
