the red one is a Greenwing Macaw, and a decade ago he cost about 1500

if my boss were to buy one today, she would expect to pay no less than 2000 for a hatchling that she would then need to hand feed and rear and train for the next 6-8 months

so looking at roughly 5k investment

for a owner to buy off of her

the blue one is actually a Harligold - not a blue and gold

which is.. a Harlequin x Blue and Gold

which is to say its a hybrid, ofc, but a Greenwing x Blue and Gold crossed to another Blue and Gold

he cost my boss 3k to buy as a month old bird. she was going to sell him until she fell in love and hes now her baby.. but like, she also took his brother from the same breeder and HE is being sold for like 5.5k

and this pricing is regional - you wouldnt find them for less where I lived at the time, but if you live like, near to the breeder or in fact could buy from the breeder themselves, you'd pay for less because the bird isnt accruing costs via shipping and hand feeding formula on top of original purchase cost
