Still love them though. This is my old man, he & his sister live with my grandparents as of the past several years cause at the time we had to move into an apartment that didn't allow pets. I've had him and his sister since I was five years old.

His name is Stitch. His sister doesn't look her age at all, but he does. But he's also pretty sick. He's suffered with asthma all his life, and awhile ago his gallbladder exploded on the way to the vet to get it removed, and they put him on steroids to help recovery, and the steroids seem to have caused him to have diabetes so now he has to get insulin twice a day along with his asthma inhaler as needed

Absolutely but he's super sweet. He knows when you're sick and he sticks by your side and if you're hurting somewhere he comes and lays down where you're hurting, etc.

Also, theres been times when his blood sugar has dropped to levels where he should be dead but he would still be functional and seem fine. An absolute trooper.

Definitely still preparing myself for him to pass though, he's like 14 now and the medicine he used to take to help with his asthma shortens a cat's lifespan.

Which I was not prepared for so as I tried to slow him down and fall into the canter rhythm, I ended up losing balance due to being completely unprepared, fell forward, tried to wrap my arms around his neck, eventually lost that too when he stopped and skittered back so I ended up a bit away, landing on my ass

Still love that horse and I actually competed in a fun show on him, got first place in a class of 17 ^^

His name is Ra, and we have a really good partnership. It took him a bit to connect with me and allow me in but! We got it and we work really well together :p though sometimes I still have to tell him to quit being an asshole

Twas a fun show and this was a walk-trot equitation class but they had hired a well known local equitation judge to do the judging for the event. Ra gave others trouble when they were on him for their classes, but he's a fairly difficult horse to ride if you don't ride him enough 🤣

Did my best to give them advice which is "Keep your outside leg on to keep him on the rail and be light in your seat." Cause he doesn't take any sort of disrespect and if you come down too hard into his back, he will be an ass and not listen/drag you to the inside of the arena. You know you've offended him because he'll do that and very angrily swish his tail.

The question is what is the GSP going to do in the game(TONS OF LEVEL PERKS)? This dog breed does it all! Point, Flush, Retrieve, Retrieve Water Foul(webbed feet), Scent work, Tracking(has that nose for pointing out hidden birds in the distance), blood tracking, treeing squirrels, etc... and a stamina that's unmatched! They'll run the field all day. Having trained my dog I have a lot of ideas for dog experience levels though. (Duration of command(whoa, heel, sit, stay /hold, go | search, find it | scent work)), recall on command | listening, making less noise(whining) | alerting an animal, Whistle Commands, Early perk Clicker Signals(rapid advancement), E-Collar would be an additional purchase for a high level dog with E-Recall at 1400 yards, Beeper to find your dog stuck in point, etc... There is so much that could be done with GSPs.

Of course learning the commands, starts with recall, "Here", that only improves(inconsistent at the start), then Go(search), then whao(slow down), then stay(hold steady), then sit / lay, then get'em (flush), then heel(it's hard for them to learn, their prey drive make them want to search and wander by nature), then bring (retrieve). Levels can also help with how far out your dog goes out. If they run off and flush a bird at 100 yards(level 1), that's of little benefit as your shotgun isn't going to reach out. As it develops the dog stays in range better, maybe you can even command the range with, here and go. Your whoa improves so it doesn't flush before you want it to. I'm fine with whistles in place of words, like the Blood hound has, so you don't have to worry about translations.
