Yeah, you really should explore all of your lakes, the guides are good to start, but everyone's maps are somewhat different

I feel like, just like red deer and black bear have their own go furtypes, the fabled piebald was going to be the standard furtype for whitetail. Thing is, probably it was bugged and the GO WT spawned with normal furtypes, so they just rolled with it and fixed it for the red deer.

Here in Washington State Black bears have no predators, and Mt. Lions have only one predator - The Black Bear. Strue story.

They dont intentionally go after them though at all
