Since the Fabled Piebald Whitetail is not the Easter Egg, I reckon the glitch is caused because the real Easter Egg uses the Whitetail model in some way and it has a Fabled fur type. Code was probably forgotten and what not, hence the Fabled Piebald Whitetails. But eh, just an opinion.

The “great-one” tag/bug/hint tells us something, I think it is the next-tier. The “rarity-check” of the spawning comment tells us something. And frankly the popularity of the whitetail, the new-scoring system, the fact red deer don’t have tru yet, and the fix over the uproar over the 30-06 tell us something.
The Whitetail is the most popular big-game animal in the world, and there’s a lot of other games on the market that only go that deep. It only makes sense if EW was going to make a move to create excitement among the hardcore Classic community, the niche video game hunting community, and the CoTW endgame community, it would start with a new tier of whitetail.
My theory is you’re looking for a nocturnal whitetail in Layton, that doesn’t hang with the herds or adhere to need zone behavior. Or maybe even spawn every load.

I used to run the competitions on Reddit. I still love the game, and hunting in real life. This development team has always hung pretty tightly to realism, I think the arcade-style stuff that Cotw receives criticism for was because it was needed to generate sales. And they were probably right.
The game is entering the end-game phase, probably very much past it tbh.
They may be realizing that their revenue now will be primarily transactions from a revival of the people who will never stop playing, as long as there is updates to gear, terrain, competition, community, gameplay. Like Classic. This game has recently been on sale for as low as 6.00 USD, as a hunter who loves this game and the maps and immersion, I would pay that for non-typical whitetails, turkeys, or mixed bag waterfowl hunting.
Classic has survived all of these years, because of its attention to detail, and community involvement.
Let’s hope that’s the direction, or at least I do. EW is the last company dedicated to a true immersive hunting experience.

And I’ll catch some flack for this-but persistent populations probably need to be looked at again before cotw 2. I know that the point was for us to explore these big beautiful maps, but logging in and hunting a tree stand in Classic with the possibility of anything showing up is much closer to the heart of a hunting experience.
I don’t know how to balance it, but it doesn’t take long to explore a map, and then realize on console without a pop reset you’ve got to shoot a lot of stuff and ff for respawns.

For a few months, we had an awesome online community on Reddit. We would have big buck competitions and such with different rules. It took us a while to hammer out rules that were fair, but we played cross-platform. Everyone was helpful and kind, and it was awesome to come in from work and have 3 hours to chase a big whitetail with a 30-30 etc.
It would take one player a lifetime to uncover re-spawn formulas, or patterns. Cheats. But it turns out, when you’re fed this data by hundreds of players, it becomes clear.
I tried to relay this to EW, and they were responsive, but with each fix came a new host of problems.
In retrospect, the tournaments were horrible for the enjoyment of the game for a lot of people, as they fast-forwarded their experience to one species versus a whole map, and highlighted respawn problems.
I’ve never shared any of the other ones publicly, and will never. But the way this game should be appreciated is from the beginning, exploring every map and animal as you go.
