No, you do not. HM makes the map spawn higher levels of males, so more dimes meaning higher chances imo of a G1 and Super Rare.

Yeah i feel there's alot of ways to create really cool feasible great ones, maybe also leaning more into the idea of variation like with the whitetail. We get alot of fur variants and racks now but you kinda have your combinations and that's that if you catch my drift. Having the antler variation in a way that makes you not know what to expect I think could be insanely motivating in comparison to knowing the combos you can end up with

Even before the creators started talking about it, I always assumed that there were certain zones or home ranges that were more primed to spawn great ones. In my previous grinds it always seems like great ones spawn in the same few zones.

Keep in mind there are also many solos in herd zones. Not litterally but they use the same drink zone as the herd zones. So when you shoot one of those solos, they will respawn somewhere else most of the time.
I usually check the drinkzone indicators to see if a track say "1". That means there is a solo.
