Apply the same philosophy on G1s as we do with diamonds. A diamond can pop at literally any time, with or without hm. And even when you're hm, you can go on a dry streak where you dont get a diamond for 50 kills. G1 is the same, just on a larger scale. Well herd managed and you'll average 1 in 400-500. Doesn't mean you won't be in that proverbial dry streak and it will take you 2000 kills that one time. But if you grind again, and again. You'll get the super shot grind and bring your average back down. This is my theory that G1s are just like diamonds on a larger scale
