Honestly- I really don’t want to get into it anymore. From everything that’s ever been shown/said, the original purpose was simply a balancing mechanic to try and give the player a balanced range of animals. The original purpose wasn’t for it to be used for HM. That much is very clear. However, the devs confirmed it’s not cheating. Cheating and exploiting are entirely separate, and many things that are exploits are not cheating or vice versa. I’m rather chill about the whole thing now as I’m sick and tired of the arguing about who’s trophies are “worth more” or “less”, especially when it’s become such a prevalent thing and it’s clear there will be no change. (Also, the whole main menu thing when you mess up still exists in game even tho it’s a huge exploit, and I personally hate it)

But an exploit has a clear defined definition, and whether someone says something is or isn’t an exploit makes no odds, if it meets the definition then it is what it is. How it’s perceived or accepted/not accepted, or is viewed as cheating/not cheating is the issue.

Thats why there are categories for speedrunning 😄 COTW doesnt/cant categorize trophy animals, so it led to this big divide that... tbh, afaik, has more or less dissolved into pure personal preference, which is what it should do! But just like there are some Minecraft speedrunners who think pausing the game shouldnt be allowed during a speedrun, or that the debug menu shouldnt be allowed, there are some COTW players who will feel the use of HM shouldnt be allowed. Everyone should be able to do what they please so long as they're honest about it. Is a super rare more likely to spawn when herd managing? Yes. Is a runner more likely to get a better Minecraft speedrun time with the debug menu? Also yes. 😄 That lack of categorization is what made things so weird in the first place. Because those who did feel HM was crossing the line had a valid reason to see the trophies as being more or less "special." But now, I think everyone pretty much knows. HM or not HM. Typically people post it with their trophies as well. Its reached a much better place

That’s a really great way to put it. It doesn’t matter to me whether someone HMs or not, I’ve done it to an extreme with red deer and it’s desensitized me to them. That’s on me and not the fault of HM.

The main issue I’ve got is when it’s pushed by CCs as “the best way to find diamonds” and I see ppl with less than 20 hours asking how to HM cuz they want a diamond whitetail because they’re led to believe that’s the only/best way to find them

We are still living in the days of the server getting 2000 messages a day. Behind the times if you will, because we get several hundred a day now. As soon as I can, I want to try to have a sit-down with everyone and make it clear that we dont need to be as harsh anymore with things having slowed down 😄 And tbh... I definitely have sarcastic mods whose sarcasm does not translate well into text. That part I dont have a solution for just yet other than to get them to quit being who they are, which definitely means I will lose a mod eventually haha

That's stacking you stack max level animals to try to produce smaller ones but in all seriousness it's not really efficient at all and it hurts more than helps over time

Hm you leave small animals and kill a certain size and up and you will continue to fill in the small ones but you will overall be killing more animals as you go
