that seems random but with herd management and collecting you do seem to get great ones quicker

so if you want a great one as quick as possible best to collect your kills and herd manage

red deer its easy to tell when its working correctly as you will have lots of level 9s and lots of level 4s

I was grinding moose and accidentally came across max weight track brown bear. I set the time for brown bear drink time and checked some lakes and there he was, it was a diamond!

I have never accidentally found a diamond when grinding any GO but now I have.

It’s tough man, the cougars will keep some from coming in. You just have to adjust your expectations.. don’t expect to get anywhere near the numbers you would on some of the other grinds

Yeah, the fur doesn’t show properly in the lodge. They look fine when you shoot them though. I wouldn’t let that stop you from grinding moose. I’m sure it’ll get fixed soon

i was wondering about that -- i feel like the GO fur bug is a display issue, not an actual data issue

if in your hunting log the fur says to be spruce but it displays as common or something else, then it's totally temporary and wont corrupt any of the data of that animal

but if people have mounted their GO's and the fur type changed in the hunting log, then its data could actually have been changed

from prior experience, there have been display issues with trophies before

not GO's but sometimes common fur types would be displayed as albinos or pies, vise versa

and when they published a fix, the fur was back to normal

im not telling you to risk it but if someone can show me a GO they've mounted that has changed fur type, and show me the hunting log, then its likely we can sum it up to be temporary

I just had an idea. What if we got “unlockable” weapon skins in cotw? The challenges required to unlock them can vary in difficulty/time required and should probably reflect the quality of the skin. Example: harvesting 50 gray wolves with the Rhino will get you the “shadow camo” and will just be a gray and black version of woodland camo, while a challenge such as harvesting a 300+ scoring moose with a heart shot from the 6.5 will get you a chrome or platinum camo. Thoughts?

so i've just recently found out about rare spawn manipulations -- without any kind of external cheats. it's in the same category as diamond spawn manipulations, except for fur types.

from what ive seen and heard, the game will spawn with at least one of each rare fur type -- and if none are in your base population, the rare fur will occur on a respawned animal of your choice.
the strat for rare furs is to find the fur type you want, for example maybe you find a melanistic wolf on Yukon but you want a melanistic caribou. so, you shoot that mela wolf, and the fur type stays as-is until another animal respawns on the map after you've shot it. the fur can "hang in the air", meaning it may not immediately respawn, but generally if you only shoot one species of animal after youve gotten rid of the fur type you want, that animal species you've shot has a really good likelihood to respawn with that rare fur.

you should try and look for a mela on a map of your choice -- it could be something as small as a mela duck.

so that fur type may be stuck on one animal you can't find at all, but once youve shot it, try and go after an easily accessible species like a whitetail or something.

randomness = ex. threshold of 10%, and if a number lands in that 10% threshold, it will spawn something, but not guaranteed
probability = "10% of the time it will exist" and it is a hard fact -- i.e, out of 100 spawns, 10 of them will always occur to be rare
so they probably have some probability code that guarantees every X many spawns, 1 is what you're looking for

the numbers and percentages are solely for example

there are just a lot of patterns i have seen with people paying close attention to their population, not just limited to species, but all animals as one population

if rare spawns were a probability, the patterns would make a lot of sense and you could correlate something with it
but with randomness/RNG, its balls to the wall i guess lmao

thats not to say rares will always exist in a population, but thinking about it from a different perspective its more likely with the size of the map and amount of individual animals that there is a probability of a rare existing x% of the time, you just need to find it

the needle exists, but its just the luck of finding it among a shitload of straw

Half of me thinks my game couldn’t spawn a GO moose bc of knowing it was messed up now. It’s all good since I restarted, everything is working as it should be. Didn't they rework the moose skeleton/skin in the same update as adding the GO? I think you mentioned in one of your GO vids that they look better now, especially in the environment of NEM.
And are you using conventional herd management/stacking on your new account or have you abandoned that tactic?

Good choice. It's gonna let you get so many more kills, plus you don't need to think about hitting the lungs too much since a non vital hit will kill the red deer fast enough.

I used the 308 at first and then switched to the 300.

I have never shot a diamond or a rare with the 300 accidentally yet thankfully lol.

Also the .300 has a way flatter bullet trajectory, based on a test from 2021.

I am of the opinion/theory that soft points/hollowpoints are in the game for a reason. If you can only get one lung you might as well do 2x damage to that one organ.
For .22LR I always use the soft points because I believe the damage calc is done different on class 1 animals. Unless maybe on large class 1's If there is a reason to snipe an organ.
But don't tell the polymer tip gang that I said that, as they will surely crucify me and torch the cross.
