You can accidentally kill does and you’re fine as long as you claim everything, without picking up it’ll get tossed into the place of one of your bucks

I took a break for a while so my info might be wrong but it used to be that if you didn't pick up your kill the same animal would spawn again next session. When I was first starting out I used to do it on nearly every diamond because I'd fuck up the shot back before the harvest checks were changed when you needed consecutive harvest / quick kill and if I didn't pick up the corpse that animal would just respawn. Doesn't happen anymore, it sounds like?

well again, at least with Layton respawns, they seem to be more… random. Without claiming I had does randomly popping into the spots my bucks took and zones would often change in size, now that I’ve started claiming, the doe, buck, and total deer counts per zone have remained constant.

What i don't get is the logic behind it. Most of the way things work in COTW are based on logic / figuring out the algorithm. I just can't fathom how not claiming a kill vs claiming one could have any bearing on the future respawns. I mean, did the devs add some weird condition of "if not claimed, ignore all pre-coded algorithms for respawn and choose at random"? Just seems odd, I think if anything it's just confirmation bias on the people who think it does/doesn't affect spawns.
