Pine warbler i think
wtv bro
Did you guys know the aesculapian snake is the most arboreal snake in europe
And the smallest snake in europe is the blind snake
What the vietnamese mossy frog?
Yes
Bc it’s a v instead of a f
Wtv means whatever 😭
Ohhhhhh
Wtf means something that I can’t say to a child or in this server😭😭
Baddog is grumpy now tho
I’m going to earn my first snake bite this summer
I’m going looking for smooth snakes
And they do bite
I’ll try to avoid it by not grabbing it and just letting it sit in my hand
But it will probably still happen
Smooth snakes are crazy rare here
But more common in germany and france
So i’m going to take the opportunity
Ok ok
It looks cool
But then again, what snake is not cool?
all of them
Depends on the species and whether or not it’s going to be eaten
This is true
I’m sorry about him guys😭
He is no longer invited for my birthday party
He’s grumpy for literally no reason
He needs food
Literal man child
He’s already eaten prolly 2k calories
They're literally all cold blooded🙄
He needs 4,5k more
How do you even count calories???? Do you do it molecule by molecule?
It’s literally not even noon here
Fair
He’s just a grumpy jerk
I’m staking out locations for aesculapian snake
Am i about to have caused something bad 😭
Wym
I started the snake talk and now he is grumpy
Oh no bud
He’s grumpy cuz I called him on the US slander
Absolutely not your fault
We’re still friends phew ❤️🩹 (snakes are still goated animals tho)
It is really hard to find aesculapian snake habitat
Yeah
im not grumpy
just mad at you
If you wanna fight you can get up and come do it in person instead of a discord server
Weirdo
i want to be the ref
Are we allowed to place bets on this match
Or is this a no gambling fight
well, someone would have to be the bookie
Happie got that
No you guys we do not encourage fighting
Also it’s a pregnant woman against a walking wall of a man
Let’s just not do that 😭
😭
one sided works out better for me.. I'll bet on the one everyone assumes would lose, then rule them the winter and take everyone's money
I meant like an argument not a fist fight 😭
😭 🙏
Over under 3.5 hours till he rejoins
Under by 20 mins
Yeah I’ll take the under
Can you guys pls make up i like talking to ya’ll 😔
I know you’re reading this I’ll take my apology in the form of a diamond necklace
Found a spot for snakes and it’s on the route
Nice
Unfortunately it is a chopped forest area but habitat is habitat
Yep lol
just for you son
Thank you 🥹🥹
why is my name brown now
😭
selected a different animal
That was a quick fix 😭
lol yeah
@obsidian bay we want to buy a new sofa and I’m being so proper I even ordered fabric samples from ikea so I can check what we like
Okay here are the contestants, my bf likes gunnared but I’m vibing maybe a bit more with hillared
I love having a near non shedding cat who doesn’t scratch furniture so that doesn’t need to factor in the choice of material
Brilliant
It was free too
I got four free samples and i can order four every three months
Also the store lights are never like the lights at home
Heck yeahhhh
Oh no, never. Unless you buy your lights from the store
My cat bites plastic plants and scratches the sht out of the carpeted stairs BUT leaves the leather recliners alone
This the sofa we want in both colors
I’m waiting for mr toxy to wake up so I can bully him about sofa fabrics
I like the swatch for gunnar, but the couch be lookin pale in the picture
We walked around ikea on sunday and ended up both liking that one
I’m taking my cat to the vet for the first time today
Is kitty okay??
Depressed looking cat
It’s like a very light beige, the sofa was in that color in the store and didn’t look bad tbh
Can’t tell if it’s just a reflection or if they’re painted but I wish my nails looked like this
Yeah just tryna get a routine set up for her
First time cat owner i think she’s doing ok
They are painted and very chipped bc I painted them like a week ago xD
Well they’re gorgeous 😭
My concern is life happens and any pale looking couch is gonna show any amount of stain
But also it looked better with the swatches against all the house stuff
True but also we have a textile cleaner
Indoraptor and scorp
Ooh excellent
The vacuum thing that also like wets the fabric
Nice, good plan
Yes haha
I am pro at explaining things
"A bissel"
Cannot believe you’re taking my bfs side with this I’m gonna cry myself to sleep
not that you asked me but the pale couch and the fabrics is scrathing my synthesia
It's like the ONE time
But you might be righy tbh
Lmaoo love that for you xD
Also the carpet might not be that one we have light beige too bc this one looked better in the store lmao
So we might swap to one that would go even better with the gunnared
Fair enough
Rn we have a dark grey sofa and I hate it
It’s so boring
And it has like a long part on one side that takes so much space for no reason
you dont like it?
I don’t think anybody does 😭
bros got no vision
@marsh prawn
Aren't yall in a state with no lakes?😭
Son
No
We’re in one of the wettest states in the US😭😭
I can’t tell if you’re trolling or if your brain is giving in from malnourishment
Think his brain is feeding off of itself, only organic matter left on that man
Son😭
A perplexing quandary
Bros organs eating his brain to maintain vital functions
elite ball knowledge
😭😭
One of my eastern diamond backs is dying guys
Just went down there to make my rounds and he’s all twisted up
Gonna have to have him put down 😔
I had a battle of wills with Nami and WON
@obsidian bay should I get a non-venomous snake now?
She wanted kibbles I wanted her to eat her wet food like a good cat
She was a menace for an hour and mad at me but now she ate
Yayyy
hognose
Boring
no, cute
then dont
mourn the boi first
reptiles can also exhibit grief and depression so wouldnt that just be swapping the sadness onto the animal
Blood python, go!
Fat babies with grouchitude
Reptiles don’t experience grief in near the same fashion mammals do
Especially human mammals
But you’re right
I thought about this
they can have PTSD tho
poor alligator
Gotta get Baddog on board tho
Yeah what honse said
there was an alligator in the Berlin Zoo that the russians appropriated after surrender
they stuck his ass in the Moscow Zoo
life was pretty comfy for him actually
but they had to reroute the V-day parade because the sound of tanks and motorcades gave him panic attacks
dope
No anti v needed if bloods bite, that's already major favor imo haha
So like, all he'd need is some wound cleaning and maybe a bandaid
ah so theyre like hoggies and bullsnakes
and really every nonvenomous snake
you can just look at them with disappointment
and shame them into letting go
Hognose 😩sweet babies
shame is strong
superior nope rope
No some are absolutely just rebellious little heathens and will bite to spite you
While making eye contact
Like a cat
look upon its glory
theyre so derpy
they either look calculating or have no thoughts behind their damn eyes
no reasoning
just nom
Is that a weed? 😭
Cuz they can that’s why
Person who’s never seen a plant before
I’m crying
I’m calling the police
Idk, it just looks like a tall weed.
Now then again, I'm not very much so a plant guy
Goofy Lil bois
I do a lot of weed wacking so whatever just so happens to come into my path is a weed
bro tryna burrow vigorously
Naw just getting a good scratches on his nos
I forgot they burrow lol
entire reason they have a shovel shaped head lol
lmao
do u fish?
weird thing about reptiles is their ability to properly think and process information seems dependent on their internal body temperatures. So, a nice, warm reptile will recognize it's owner, but if they're cold, it'll take them a much longer time to remember who you are
Temperature based dementia
The temp is their iq
basically... but it's not that different in mammals.. if you see someone who has a low body temperature.. they have a hard time understanding where they are, or what's going on.. same with people that have really high fevers
we just maintain the ideal temperature better
Ye all the time
do u know stuff abt lures
It kinda does, if you’re not familiar, to be fair haha it helps to take a look at where it is too
Most of those are evenly spaced out and such, someone’s showing them off, etc
There’s a couple potential weeds there but most in the photos are actual garden plants. I believe I see squash and tomatoes lol
i learned that from people who keep venomous snakes as pets.. if the snake is warm, it'll recognize it's handler, remember that it trusts them, and be easier to deal with.. when they're cold, their mind gets foggy, and they get defensive as a default
Yep
Most relatable thing ever
i should get a pet reptile again
You need help choosing lures or sum?
Technically all animals do this to an extent
So real
Me too tbh
If it moves it gets a couple full throttle sweeps
Everything with a brain has an optimal operating temperature
If I’m too cold or too hot I will be mad at everything
@woven hamlet can testify that if I’m chilly I suck to be around
Cold: just leave me alone
Hot: also leave me alone but angry lol
Man I had a FIELD DAY last week on Friday at the campground I work at. It's 87⁰f, and there is about a 50 yard long strip of weeds. Twas fun.
I bet that was so satisfying
I prefer weedeating over mowing
Boring af my bf been snoozing since 5pm lmao
It’s now 10pm
But he worked three night shifts in a row so he gets to have snoozies
a few days ago it was below freezing here.. still cold
Yeah, but also... they're just dbags in the shape of a very fat tube
(Sorry for slow, def not making 10pm pancakes and bacon)
is it worth it?
nah, you can get ass scratchers much cheaper than that
no i found these in my old tackle box from when i was like 9 im 17 now so idk if there still good
There was this big tall weed about 2 foot tall, it felt like I was collapsing a whole dang tree.
Those are the best
Yeah those will still work
which are the worst one out of them
Probably shoulda worn eye protection tho cause I got chunks of it in my eye but it's aight
As long as they’re weren’t exposed to extreme and prolonged heat they will be fine
The one with the green fluffy tail
ok
Had a whole bag of bubblegums I had to throw away because of that
i figured that
Now I just make my own 👍
what sort of fish do you want to catch?
for general usage lures.. you can't really go wrong with texas rigged soft lures
like this
don't need to worry about weeds so much with those either
what the hell is that tyk
something that needs a diet
CHUNK
what is this beast 😭
i use these worms
the issue with a lot of pet snakes is people underestimate how much space they need, they get too big, and they end up releasing them. Also they can be escape artists.. which is why I find it weird it's more likely domestic animals are banned than exotic, potentially invasive ones
rn im using a whopper plopper my favorite lure
it depends a lot on what you want to catch.. if you want a pike, go spoons
this to a pike is like cake to rosie odonnel.. they can't resist
Beautiful
Blood python
if i got a constricting snake.. it would either be an emerald tree boa.. or green tree python
i dont think they have pike where i live
Blood pythons are quite literally built thick, naturally.
Yes many breeders over feed - but they are innately a thick snake
where do you live?
louisiana
this is a gorgeous snake
yeah, louisianna isn't going to have pike, closest thing might be gar
twins
w
i figured that
ive caught a gar
it wasnt a good one
i think it was 12 pounds
Louisiana doesn’t have pickerel?
Aren't they just?
I will always advocate for people who've had snake xp to try them out
they probably have pickerel
i like dill on fish.. would be interesting to have a dill pickerel
could get these in louisianna
if i was in a place that let me keep domestic animals as pets, and I wanted a snake, I'd probably get a copperhead
I would love to find one in the wild
if those emerald tree boas weren't nuts on pricing i'd get one of those easy
put it in a nice tall tropical vivarium
and they seem to be very easy to handle too
I have chain pickeral here in Tx
honestly, been struck at/bitten by more ETBs than GTPs
aren't ETBs more likely to be wild caught though?
most often
What are these letters short for 😭
but even the captive bred few I've run across are just more bitey
Emerald Tree Boas or Green Tree Pythons
Ohhh
All snakes are beautiful but like that is just beyond gorgeous
still not as bad as when someone's pet pit viper gets bitey
You should see the colors/patterns that people have bred them into
Gabino might be my next snake😭
This reminded me
B but you said non venomous
i need to move to an area with more space before I get anything too large.. although, I was wanting to build a structure over top of my PC, and one over top of my bed to use the space above for things
even if I used those spaces for bulk storage of other items it'd free up space in other parts of my room.. like this 36" long black table to my right
Did I?
I thought so but you only asked tyk
The blood python isn’t even danger tho
Just stay away from the basement
RIP baddog
like at all! esp if you get as baby.
People say they're vile - and I will admit they're grouchy, but they can be as docile as ball pythons with the time and effort
I’ve never really had a blood be mean to me
Only time I've seen a 'mean' one, was one that was unhandled af.
so like.. reasonable imo
Every retic I’ve ever held is evil
Or every retic I’ve ever helped hold
I’m not really big enough to do it alone
You’d need to be gigantic to handle anything over 8 feet by yourself
I would call that an ultra small retic
Meanest reptile i have ever handled was a worm lizard
I was free handling and it still tried to bite
A lot
It’s not like a little pressure either
They are built like a dang croc monitor
For me it’s prolly a saltwater
really anything over 6 feet can be a threat to the avg person
I was holding my coworkers super docile redtail, Lasciel - and he was SO sweet.
But Also was almost 7 feet long and I was struggling to use my arms. Lasc was not aggressively constricting - but I could not fight my arm free once he got it gripped
Luckily i am over 6 foot so i can still wrestle before i die
bro is like 120 lbs tho
lUcKiLy I aM oVeR 6 fOoT
170
im 6'6
IT WAS 5 BEFORE
and im 100 percent sure a 7 foot snake could kill me
Baddog grew an inch 😔
i went the the dr today and they said 6'6
Big guy
im actually dying 😭
im crying 😭
nah uh, you'll be a-okay, Spartacus!
“6’6 (actually 5’11) man pulled out of green anaconda”
bro
why'd he do that?.. never pull out
i could literally bend you like a plastic straw
Ok buddy
son
I know i’m jealous 😭
Paris
Nice
Ban him
5'4 3/4"
Tall ahh human
That’s pretty average
Sorry for the late reply got a bit busy lol
depends.. if tyk is female, then that's average, sure
Sorry guys my mom is 178 centimeters
ALSO LOOK AT THIS DARK MORPH I FOUND
No worries lol
Bruh gar are wayy more fun to fight
THE EYES
all three of the other males in my immediate family were 5'7-5'9, I ended up 6'
i don't know about that.. pike up north get huge, and they fight hard.. especially if you upgrade to the muskie
Get out of my head 😭
Cookie hehe- first and only thought-cat
what I don't like about pike though.. some actually tried biting my fingers
These are the parents -
He is gorgeous tho
Wow
i can see why some people like bass fishing casually, they're easy to handle, easy to unhook
I need those
Maybe it’s just me but I do not like the way pythons heads are shaped
you prefer the arrowhead shape of boas?
Gar can get OVER 400lbs
its a fair thing - not everyone loves the things
The best serpent head shape is that of Naja
alligator gar, sure
Fight like hell and are essentially living dinos
I just like their derpy faces
but not all gar is alligator gar
Derp cobras are the best😭
Calabar python disagrees
I love the eyes but they’re heads are a weird shape to me
I far prefer ball python heads, with their little headpudges
Most gar are decent sized
I miss my boyo :C
this is the gar you're usually going to catch fishing, since you probably won't have the equipment for alligator gar
They hella fun
But i live in europe 😭
But by god dont exist near the mouth😭
we're getting a dog
i'm sure there's something similar ot gar in Europe
I learnedthe hard way
I mean, there is pike
Gabino
Imperator
Blood
Hognose
HOGNOSE
Lets just say 17 punctures in my hand and alotta blood💀
blood is also goated tho….
after watching the sturgeon suck the mermaids head into his mouth while she was performing a show for audience at the aquarium
I have concerns about them
Who did the fish go to when they were sick?
The sturgeon
That was a beluga tho
They also thrash
Largest actively hunting freshwater fish
They rival great whites for biggest overall predatory fish
#sturgeon #mermaid #animals #shorts #subscribe
This was a terrifying scene when a sturgeon attacked a mermaid in China, but luckily, no one was hurt. Let me tell you why. You see, sturgeon, when they are very young, have small, pointed teeth, but as they grow and reach a length of approximately 3 centimeters, they lose these teeth. In adulthoo...
They still gonna FWOMP you
whats that one gif
If you look at the angle of a beluga sturgeons mouth it is much more forward then the other species
Beluga and kaluga are in the hugo genus tho
of the guy in the diner running back and snatching up the food from the guys hand
Wait
and just SHHASHAFAHSHA chewing it
Most of the rest in the acispenser genus
Lemme summon it
FOCK
Monster house
Monster house
HA
thank you
Hehe
Did you mean, "human surgeon" Google prob
Not saying they arent
Very very strong
they grow slow as hell too
like 20 to 30 years to reach mature size and actually mate
which is why the roe trade about drove them extinct
fr
and yes I will continually blame the richer parts of the Atlantic Seaboard of the US and the entirety of continental Europe for this
because they drove their native sturgeons extinct or nearly extinct then came out west and screwed with our fish
as if we didnt screw with them enough already
Only place the european sturgeon still naturally reproduces is a single creek in france btw
Ik people need to stop
former range of the entire continent + the British Isles right?
Yup
good god
But reintroduction is slowy but surely taking shape
All bc nobody thought that you needed to kill them for eggs btw…. How did nobody think to harvest the eggs like how they do it with salmon
@obsidian bay also I regret to inform you but despite my best efforts something broke in, racoon def, and broke 2 turkey eggs and took the rest😭
Nooooo
there's plans to drop some in the basin of the river Elbe
lazyness happie
its faster to just gut the poor fish
Luckily sturgeons have quite a lot of babies
that is their one saving grace
All for a mid ass rich people food😑
Yup
something crazy like 100,000 eggs per female right?
Might as well make saltwater boba
Yeah but only 4-8 reach adulthood
yknow what the triply worst part of the caviar trade is?
In the wild tho
European wealthmen drove their own fish basically extinct right
Not sure
Then came over here
then they paid people to drive american and canadian pops into the toilet
and THEN
CAUSE THERES A THIRD SECTION TO THIS
THE AMERICAN PADDLEFISH
was used as a SUBSTTITUTE FOR THESE GREEDY BASTARDS AND THEIR CRAVINGS
Don't get me started
and also almost went extinct
thankfully it reproduces and matures much faster so its recovery is significantly better
But is weak to dams
dams themselves are dumb as hell
do it the way scotland does
caviar?
no huge dumbass concrete blocks
just semi buried turbines in the water column
get whatever hydro out of it and not annihilate whole ecosystems
yes
5 species of sturgeon + a paddelfish driven to near extinction in 80 years
Or build like the fish ramps or whatever they are called
son for a second i thought this was replying to me
😭
that junk is so nasty
that can also work but the among of land loss and excess water loss from evaporation as well as downright death of river ecosystems downstream even in modified dams makes me consider full sized or any kind of complete dam a massive waste of materials and space
in fact the Hoover and several other are major contributors to the ongoing death of the Colorado River
which no longer reaches San Juan bay
it runs dry in the desert 5 miles from the coast
oh sorry
not 5
the entire lower 100
that is also worsened by morons in Arizona growing rice and alfalfa
feeding the antlions
Yep
what is that 😭
Favorite part of the year
what is in the dirt and does it come in human size 😭
so you know what damselflies are right?
thats their larval stage
Basically the irl sarlack pit
absolute gremlin of a child that ambushes things via sarlack pit
Ayy
Its so cool feeding them
Rip to the ants tho💀
Sacrifice im willing to make
No not damselflies
They will also drag their PARALYZED prey under ground
Damselflies have aquatic larvae
Dam selfies
Antlion adults are just called antlion
May fly
Related to owlflies and mantidflies
Well obviously a owlflies
And the absolute flying terrors known as dobsonflies
They look like a wasp damselfly hybrid
Note the antennae
And wing resting position is different
i hate it
They are a little freaky
Soo many to feed
oh yeah this is the one i meant
May flies have aquatic larvae too
yep
good grief
Don’t be sad over a mistake be happy you learned something
yo
if someone said this to me i might literally slap them
I know it’s peak ragebait
lmao
WHAT
@manic inlet who's that catapillar?
A very venomous one by the looks of it
Hog?
Guy named atlas pro made a very good video about a related and endangered species
its hairy and therefore prolly dangerous
no idea the variety but it prolly hurts so
Not even hairy just straight up torturous spines 😭
Operation save the neighbors roses is working
If not friend why friend shaped
Ive been caring for them for about a month and they just put out roses for the 1st time in 2 years
I genuinely can't stand moths though they wait by my door when its dark and the second I open it they all fly in
I like big moths
Hawk moths and stuff
Biggest species in europe is absolutely insane
damn, you right tho
Saturnia pyri
And i cannot lie
Giant peacock moth
Hawk moth sounds like a moth that would be named for killing other moths
They are just built for speed and hovering like a hawk
Very short sharp wings
More like a falcon tbh
I’m blessed with animal nerdiness 😌
A species of toad only found in a county in california
See you know something
bro had that on lock
I said native species here
It was like one scroll down in my gallery lol
Only species of tortoise in california?
lmao
Cali desert tortoise
Mojave tortoise
My brain kept jumping to the scientific name
Almost had it
Noooo it’s critically endangered 😭
Yk thats its other name
The Mojave tortoise is its most known name
Indeed
surprised nobody has bred shelless tortoises yet
that sounds cursed
Do NOT translate, a seal pushed me, into french😭😭😭
@obsidian bay @past bison eepy babys💓
aint it like 3 am for you rn
5

I'm supposed to go to sleep in this
It's too bright
Is that an electric guitar🤔
I think so
I want one🥹
Get one 😎
I love electric guitars
Yeah but ima about to be like 50k in debt after college😭
I need to save up to pay it off
Make it 51k BUT WITH AN ELECTRIC GUITAR
U so right
🔥
hell yeah
I already got ideas for the lore
hell yeah
Baden fist fights a deer and loses because a rabbit distracts them
I guess bro
Hi goober
😭please stop doing this thing Seamus
You’re already a weirdo
too late, he already did it
he did a good job too cuz i can hear her crying 😭
he would do it again too
Sleep mask from normal trusttt
It’s satin and it covers half of your face
That’s how I slept before we got a good curtain
Sleep mask and white noise
Or replace the curtains with cloth blinds
Or just add the blinds under the curtain
I used to have some until I moved. Best things ever
i bought me one of these off ebay and restored it
the reason I got this model was it still used the full length singular self lubricating bearing system that uses an internal worm gear to pump the lubricant throughout, but switched to a capacitor motor and wider blades so it's quieter, and runs on less power. Result is an indestructible forever-lasting desk fan that is quiet, while pushing more air at less power consumption than modern ones
it was hard to resist not getting one of these older models
anyway.. did this project when my modern one died and I didn't want to throw more money at another pile of e-waste
Bro you just be finding all the Pokémon🤣
Ofc
Scrungly Lil mans
I love himm
He needs some bugs
Oh my goodness its precious
So i crunched some numbers
and determined that after removing the 150,000 ish elk Canada has to determine the US only population
that is 1.05 million animals
so Colorado's 339,000 is 32.28% of the entire US population
for mule deer the US population is just shy of 2.3 million
Hoarding them all
with 408,000 mule deer this means CO has 17.7% of the US mule deer population by itself
but there's more
i went into the charts themselves to look at which herds gained what
mule deer was rather evenly distributed
but holy hell
elk had a good few stay stable
quite a lot gain 500 to 1000 animals
a handful with 1000 to 3000 gained
a smidge lose 500 to 1000 but fully offset by the above
and then there's three herds in particular
Our mule deer population has been dropping a bit due to forest fires and the ever increasing cities
Those fires from last year really didn't help them.
poor deers
oh these three elk herds
um buckle the hell in cause this is crazy
Disappointment Creek, White River, and San Juan
WILD jumps
Same issue as the pumas here atp but hopefully they both get to bounce back
But Colorado pretty much having almost 18% of the US mule deer population is wild
Disappointment Creek's elk herd went from 24,350 animals in 2024 to 30,320 in 2025
At least they are seeming to bounce back so its still really good news
White River had a simialr jump but its more absurd
36,000 to 42,000
in a single year
meaning that by itself
the White River Herd
is half of Arizona's entire elk population
and then the largest jump proportionally as well as by numbers goes to the San Juan Herd
do you want to take a guess
as to the fantastical bullcrap
that are these numbers
With the numbers they've been at i couldn't even guess
Could be anywhere
it was a 50% jump in a single year
from 21,000 animals in 2024 to 31,000 in 2025
meaning it was
a third
of all growth in 2024-25
for the whole state's elk pop
They got their priorities in line lol
the pronghorn didnt have a massive explosion they just absorbed the hunting season and stayed at 70k
which is good
weve spent decades fighting vehicle collisions and fencing so stable is good
Better than nothing
used to be 95k around 2013 but it has shrank due to fencing of open land, highway constructing, and habitat fragmentation on the prairie from new rural home developments
if we did something like say Alberta
and required modified fencing in pronghorn habitat
uh
theyd explode
like hands down
like within 5 years the population would easily double due to increased mobility
moreso with the wildlife crossings on the major highways
i will say I have the most beef with the suburban/housing developments on the prairie
the ranchers and farmers at least have a reason to put fences around their stuff
like all of the land tract
mfs who drop half million dollar cracker box homes on the grasslands dont
for context this is modifying them to not be woven wire where possible and have the bottom wire be 18 to 20 inches off the ground
Dont blame you there really most of them tend to be how do i put this nicely. a little stubborn and dense
and be smooth wire
yes
thats
yeah thats all i can come up with that isnt rude too
also I will say
But hopefully things get better and pronghorn get that same opportunity to bounce back like the elk
its gonna be hilarious in like 3 to 8 years
All in due time
when elk start filtering out in big numbers onto the prairie
and absolutely obliterate those development fences
cause elk are elk
theres nothing that prevents them from walking through the fence
the barrier is a suggestion to them
fingers crossed; may or may not have a compulsive hyperfixation to bother CPW about implementing something like that
or idk, lobby state congress
oh and Montana's elk arent in shambles anymore it seems
first time in like a decade with 10%+ calf recruitment and a halfway decent cow/calf ratio
jumped from 143,000 to 157,000 2024 to 2025
Funny thing the dairy i work at we have a bull pen that mule deer often jump into or break into to nibble on the feed, its even worse when the elk do it.
i literally have watched a bull elk look at a barbed wire fence
and just
be inconvenienced by it at most
cause you see it had been raised to 7 ft to prevent it being jumped easily
this big old bastard 6x6 mistwalked through it
the same way you do those bead things you can hang in a doorway
he did not care
Yeah it's crazy to see how strong they are
he wanted food and it was in his way
Casually ripping a fence like its nothing
and bison literally dont even treat it as a suggestion
ive seen videos from up in montana where they dont even pause to recognize it like elk and moose do
they just walk through it without care
ecologically theyre very important
but im torn
cause like
if we had
tens of thousands of them everywhere
well to start with good luck getting the ranchers onboard
but besides them
the amount of rural highways thatd be randomly inaccessible
because 97,000 lbs of wild floof cows
are just using it was a sunbathing spot
This reminded me
also we maybe possible reoponed the door to reintroducing them in CO since theyre no longer livestock in this state
Ive been seeing alot of videos of people trying to take selfies with bison and I just facepalm everytime
ah yes
sedan sized animal with the temperament of a tannerite charge
great idea
The whole mentally of herbivores being cute and cuddly
mfs do the same with moose
which is worse
cause the gigadeer is on its own plain of anger
you gotta at least convince the bison to beat your ass
the moose considers your heartbeat just cause half the time
I saw two guys do it with a moose as a guy was warning them not to get near it just for the moose to stomp and bite them
The guy that was warning them was cheering the moose on
oh and speaking of moose, our moose pop stayed stabled
3400 in 2025 post hunt compared to i think 3650 in 2024
theyve been oscilating between 3200 and 4000 for like a decade now so
its not exactly shocking
I forgot yall had meese
There was a big slug behind me I hope he ate it
Im so used to moose being further up north
reintroduced in the 1980s with rando bulls and cows from wyoming and utah
we are along like the southern extent of their range in warm periods
but yeah, valid
many CO residents dont even know we have em
Im not surprised
you usually find out when visiting Estes
because if you go west of Estes to one of the campgrounds around Bull Mountain
there be moose about
do not try to fight it, it will win
even against your car
ong the bulls will chokeslam a hatchback
Ive heard advice if you ever see a moose on the road and are about to hit it you'll be safer trying to swerve into a tree
yes, its the inverse of every other animal
because its so tall, hitting it means you sweep its legs
then the whole half ton ultradeer from hell drops through your windshield and turns you into a memory by decaling you to the inside of your car
Moose are certainly interesting creatures
very neat animals
ive seen one in person
well it was two
Neat but terrifying
springtime, mom and calf
agreed
they scare me
i like seeing them and they scare me
we were in the car and were very still
yes mama moose was death glaring us
I don't have the guts to go near a moose lol
they move distrubingly silently icl
Ive seen videos of them showing the whites of their eyes and its just freaky
its horrific how quiet an animal that size can move through the forest
real
Thankfully any moose ive seen was behind a fence
id love to see them reestablished where they formerly were tbh
like fully
cause theyre immensely necessary for forest health throughout the continent
and are commensurate with elk for helping regulate but accelerate growth in browse
they also make game trails
shockingly, by using their 1000lb bodies to bulldoze direct routes to stuff they like
I never looked into this what was their original range like?
I dont have an exact map on hand but formerly the following states (in a list)
Oregon, Washington, California, Idaho, Utah, Nevada, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, Indiana, Ohio, Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine
and also Alaska
they used to be a rather common sight in the badlands and throughout the prairie and were a major browser in the northern half of the eastern deciduous woodlands
the southern half being covered by elk which inhabited the entire lower 48
So pretty much widespread throughout the US
yeah, one second im editing a map
its slightly outdated but
it works
Alr
red is the original on the map but orange more or less demarcates current distribution while green is historical
oh I dragged it a bit too far north and missed the ozarks where htey ranged roughly furtherest south
there
lines are a bit thin on Nevada but they were in the sierra range near the cali border and along the Utah/Idaho lines
It bothered me too much I had to correct it
Oh damn it really did shrink..
That's just concerningly tiny compared to the historical range.
market hunting for meat, antler, and hide
Thought so
also mass killing by cattlemen and contracted former army men as well as the army itself to kill off food sources for Native Americans and make way for cattle ranching/farming
shot and left to rot in many cases
So pretty much just mass killing drove them out and made their range shrink further
the buffalo wasnt the only one to suffer that fate but it had it the worst
yep
elk is arguably more egregious though
Every elk subspecies suffered there
Didn't like 2 go extinct due to that same reason?
Eastern and Merriam's although Merriam's are now considered an ecotype of RME as are Manitobans
Ah
one second ima do some crude drawing to put feeling to this
for reference this is generally accurate for current distribution
Tule elk mentioned 🗣‼️
this is roughly what is was at european contact
basically, the whole lower 48 possibly except for florida
and most of mexico
Yikes
