Additionally they have a little sponge filter in the thingy that runs the water but that’s very easy to just pull out and replace when needed. The only flora could be found in small rocky towers that had light coming from them. I kept hunting on that map, and then I found something. A giant hole in the shallow water, and it led down a large spiral staircase that looked like an abandoned apartment building. I heard what sounded like a European badger mating call, but it was actually a ‘Melanistic Call’ whatever that means. I found the European badger, and it slowly turned into the wild haggis. in order to even get a mtn lion tag/license

you have to take an aptitude test

if you get less than 80% on it you dont get the license cause its considered a fail

have to know all laws pertaining to them as well as determination of sex

in addition, unlike AZ, we actually regulate hound hunting them

no more than 7 dogs in a pack and the owner/hunter must be present for release as well as walk with the dogs

any damage to nontarget wildlife is a fineable offense

I always forget people hunt mountain lions with hounds on occasion

multiple often results in jailtime and confiscation of dogs

possible lifetime hunting ban that can be made reciprocal with all 50 states

I like theres this whole process over there but here its just yeah if you injure, sell or have one you get in trouble

overall its been a really successful program since it means on serious and responsible people hunt them for the most part and it nearly eliminates conflict with ranchers because excess young dispersal toms are preferentially targetted

iirc last estimation from CPW was close to 5500 adult cats in the state rapidly expanding east

might hit 10,000 adults in the state with complete land coverage across the whole of Colorado by 2040 or earlier

which is rapid for a big cat

may as well since the vast vast majority of the cats taken are high risk younger males that would end up soaking up state funds and costing ranchers money by going after cattle and sheep

and theyre expanding eastward to reclaim the remains of the wild country on the front range and prairie

will be like two thirds of all RME in the country

with most of the remainder being in California and Washington

for context Montana's herd is struggling

sub-20 calf to cow ratio for 7+ years now

and Cali for the epic conservation success of rewilding all 3 subspecies and saving their endemic one

theyve all got smth

Wyoming does a block season for rifle

but its like 25 days

and then theres nothing aside from private tags for like a month

meanwhile CO rifle seasons are on/off

and most activity is opening weekend plus that monday

so 1st rifle is like 7 days on

then like I think 5 days til 2nd

2nd is 6 days on

then like a week til 3rd

3rd is 5 days

then 3 or 4 days later is 4th

and then nearly 2 to 4 weeks after 4th is late private land rifle

means the elk never get pressured off of public land completely

unlike in MT

it also keeps them healthier cause less stress

in fact MT's horrible calf recruitment and pregnancy rates may be because the block season is stressing cows into miscarrying barely a month into the pregnancy term

again, there's such a thing as too much time in the season and too many tags

and their deer management is just

and this is where a block season works

if theres not many people hunting out there

a good example this is plains rifle

which is 2.5 to 3 weeks in a block in CO

It can range from mid to late September all the way through October sometimes in November

the units it covers usually barely issue 150 tags

most of them less than 45

GMU 87 just north of me only issues 45 combined for buck and doe for the whole season
