I’ve shot three deer and a fox with 6.5 they go down good and quick you just have to be very precise the smaller bullet means that you have to make consistent good shots whereas 308 often has the punch power to make it through bones and still carry enough power to kill. And if you ever neck shoot 308 has more power to punch through a big bucks nick

Although when I did shoot a muntjac with a 308 he ran a good 20 yards before dropping but he was a beast of a muntjac

But at the end of the day it’s your choice what gun you get so I will not do any more than give reasons for more “old-fashioned” cartridges

I’m very lucky to be surrounded by a lot of older hunters at the club so I got a lot of opinions/information from people who been doing this for a long time

General rule of thumb is if you’re going to neck shoot your gonna want a 30 cal or bigger for the punch and weight that they have if you’re just going to be chest shooting which I recommend for beginners anyway 6.5 Creedmore will kill a moose if you get the heavier ammunition although you will probably have to double tap. But just remember the Americans killed them with bow and arrow you can kill them with something moving at a couple thousand miles an hour lol but I’d still go with 300 WinMag if you’re gonna shoot moose😂
