Right, i'm not exactly hurt by ai as for now, however i dislike it and the direction its going to. It is a tool, but one that steals from people who spend long years learning and perfecting their craft, be that 2D or 3D. I studied art pretty much all my life, if there was any tool to fight back against ai and its theft i wouldn't mind it much. And you guys have to be real here and admit not many artists nowaday have a chance to make it big, out of my class with the people i kept contact with, maybe 1-2 still draws from time to time. It just doesn't work out, maybe for people who have money on the side to begin with and had a background full of people who supported them and aided their start, sure. But on average, its extremely rare anyone gets to be blessed enough they can make it their career🥲 It's my dream to live off of commissions, but money is hard to come by, and atm i'm burnt out, on top of all i have to worry about bills etc., (just like everyone else yes thats not the point).

To me ai is annoying since it takes away clients, and then also tricks and foold people left and right. Restaurants use ai generated pics on their meals preview images often, videos everywhere, its increasingly starting to look just a little too real. Everyone has different opinions ofc, however mine will stand firmly against ai and i hope most people will recognize the detorating effect it has overshadows its helpfullness

This has always been the case, historically. There were many middling artists in history, they never made it big, their art was a family heirloom at best and still holds little value monetarily now (is this a bad thing? Definitely not, but it's still a fact).

Also a historic trend-- You don't always get to make a living off of your work, especially if it's middling. In the past especially, people paid for lifelong masterpieces (works that took a decade to finish) and were majorly talented artist's patrons so they could make that art-- if they made masterpieces. If anything, "making it big" in the sense of being able to live off your art is easier than ever. There are hundreds of people who want half-decent drawings of their characters doing whatever, and if you have 10 $100 slots open, you can reasonably subsidize your portion of rent and groceries with a small portion of utilities if you aren't 1) living in a dogshit city and 2) putting yourself in debt with luxuries.

I do this, and many other artists do. You watch someone struggle, and you see how they did it, and now you have a shortcut to get it done faster, just by watching a speedpaint, or even just seeing a finished image. That's how it is. They never even knew you did it, and you might even turn a profit because you learned from their 3-year long torture session.

I'm not attached to it in the sense that "woaw now everyone can be an artist!!!one11!" because having tools doesn't equal having taste (this applies to people picking up a pencil, too!) but rather I think it's important to see the holes in certain arguments and realize what's logical and what's zeitgeist/not thinking for oneself.

As a matter of numbers, not everyone can live off of a job where you purely provide a luxury, rather than a necessary service like agriculture, engineering, etc. It's still a good dream to strive for. Functionally I don't think AI is taking away those commission opportunities.

One more thing-- The people using AI to generate 74 different variations of an idea were never going to pay an artist in the first place. This doesn't make them bad either, it's not like they're morally obligated to pay someone for a service if they simply don't want it.

its one thing when an individual uses AI to make something for fun - this is morally the same as tracing something. its another entirely when a company uses AI in place of hiring artists (coughs Classic is guilty of this), and of course lines get crossed whwn you get into commercial use....at this point, were using more electricity complaining about it lol

idk, i follow an artist on tumblr who is working hard on making their own AI that is trained on their art to expedite things like colouring animations or fill up backgrounds, and it really shifted me out of the reactionary Must Comment Negatively On Every AI Thing I See mindset. it really isnt worth the fuss at this point, especc when somebody was showing off something made for the fun of it, as opposed to some schmuck on twitter ripping off an online artist's style for profit, you know? i think its an interesting debate, but definitely not one to raise hackles about!

Is that wood burning? I have done that my experience light layers and many layers to darken. Also do you have a wood burner with adjustable heat? Big game changer if you don’t. It allows gradual build up of darkening layers. Keep your light areas the lightest burn it will give a white effect or highlight if you wish it in the piece. Great job. ;0) how long have you been wood burning.

Oh I should have mentioned also but using light layers to darken the tip won’t dig in the wood either. So you can achieve a gradual hue from light to dark if you want. Also I found before you actually apply the tip to the wood slightly blow on it to cool and it also won’t give you a dig in burn or really black to start if that makes sense, ?
