The factors that decide wether you keep your rating or not are:

Shot placement: animals class 2 and above need to be shot in vital organs, easiest place is the lungs

Bullet: make sure you have the right bullet for the job, it'll say it's class range in your menu

Trophy organ: each animal will have a specific part of the body that cannot be shot or it will ruin the trophy (normally the skull)

Number of shots: if you shoot an animal more than twice it will deduct score
