The only way to remove hunting pressure from one area is to apply it elsewhere.

press B select track and it will start searching for blood nearby if it finds blood drops left by the injured animal it will start following the trail until either you find the dead animal or until it regenerates and then just follows the footprints (not that sure about the footprints but that's what i have noticed doing), the rest like stay sit down etc shouldn't be explained.

But I just run around until i get a call, and a lot of the time they're warning calls. If it's something like a Roe or Blacktail i use a lure and most of the time they slowly come over to me

Good evening all. After getting to grips with the basics of the flow of CotW, I quite like the idea of diving into the deep end and going hudless (and also removing the glowing markers of doom). Few questions before I do:-

1 - how viable is it to play this way in practice?
2 - if it is viable, any general pointers? (aside from taking things even slower, of course)
3 - I haven't played much with the hounds; are they a help or a hinderance? (especially for going hudless)

Hounds can only follow blood trails and if the animal does not die, it would track it, other than that, they are pointless.

Hounds sound like a good compromise to playing fully immersive style. At the very least, it sounds like a fairly useful crutch to ease me into things.

Having checked re: whether they spook animals, apparently they do albeit at a far shorter radius than the player. Still, it sounds like a good opportunity to learn how to effectively learn how to handle hounds.

hi! one question... have you noticed lately that the arrows fall faster than before? I fail all shots, and testing on the shooting range they are always lower than before. there is no best gun for that, because it depends on the player, and how good the player is at judging bullet drop, some people say that the Grelck Drilling Rifle has bad range, but I can reliably shoot it at ranges up to 400m.

hey, my game is set to high graphic preset, is 8x16 scope useless cos animals won't render above 300-400m?(google told me so). It is expensive, 36000, MEDVED Siberian map has lots of bushes, so I don't think that I need that scope there, cos lots of bushes= less stuff rendering. Like in lake district near water marshes there is little vegetation, just some trees, and there rendering is faaar. I only played those two maps, what about other maps and 8x16? maybe I should buy some class 9 cannon, or 223 for better points with smaller animals?(I am running with bolt 30-06). sorry for my English,

Lung shots don’t kill them imeaditly and they will prolly get into the water and u will lose them if u r grinding and don’t care about losing them or score use the .300 if u want to claim them and want full score neck shots with the 30-6 are easy it’s personal preference tho

Anyone know a good way to kill a lot of animals quick in hunting fallow goats or whatever they’re called they are always in around packs of 20 but with a bolt action you have to choose and pick around 1-3 to take out of the 20 is there a better option as they are class 3?

Feral goats! I guess probably my recommendation would be grabbing a weapon over class 3? The m1 or 303 should probably kill them very easy.

well if you make a bad shot you might not get a diamond at all... In order to get a diamond you need of course a high enough scoring animal, using the correct ammo type for the class, killing an animal with max 2 bullets, not hitting the tophy organ and hitting a vital hit

Yes, after you killed an animal it will respawn.. the exact respawn mechanisms are not known, but most believe that the gender will stay the same, so if you kill a male a male will respawn and the level range of the killed animal might have an impact on the level of the new one

Te Awaroa is definitely far easier than Hirschfelden though, but even then I prefer Hirschfelden much more for Fallow Deer.

Yeah, Hirschfelden definitely feels more difficult, as a lot of the vegetation isn't as helpful for camouflage and the terrain is really rough, but it's a really pretty map and I quite enjoy hunting on it for reds and fallows

Grab say... another variation of the m1 (new one or check kills in lodge first) and use that too kill the species you wanna shoot If you go too the safari lodge and place It down you'll get the total amount of kills you've shot with it.

Question regarding wind (and how it relates to bows):-

I know that you have to account for wind direction when sneaking up on animals and when firing bows. However, I have also noticed that sometimes seeds/leaves/etc. blow faster during storms and gusts. Question is... is wind speed an actual hidden mechanic? (My guess is that it is, given that I see there is a perk related to it). And secondly, just how much of an impact does speed have?

Additionally -- if it does have a significant impact on bows -- are there any useful guides as to how to account for different wind speeds? A cursory look only suggests offsetting aim slightly upwind but doesn't mention much as to the extent to which one should offset the aim dependent on wind speed.

(Guessing the answer to the last question is probably just "learn by doing" and "git gud" though, heh).

Halo jump around and be mindful of which direction they are attacking you from, constantly swivel, and know that when they put their head down they will charge. I've successfully defended myself with Good Integrity kills on the majority of 8-10 wolf pack squad attacking me at night with the 6.5mm Martensson.

At the end of the day from the wolf attacks I've experienced, you have to apply all of the above and get a bit lucky as well to survive. Just how it is. 🙂

Animal states in COTW:
-Calm: Default state. animal is just minding its own business
-Attentive: Animal heard/smelled/saw something, but is still doing what it was originally doing
-Alert: Animal stops whatever they are doing and does some patrolling motions to figure out what is nearby
-Alarmed: Animal feels threatened and will start fleeing soon
-Fleeing: animal picks a direction and starts hauling ass
-Defensive: not sure what this means, but it seems to be akin to fleeing.
-Nervous: Animal had fled for a while and no longer feels threatened, but will be cautious for a while. Animals in this state will not react to callers

-Aggressive: Animal will actively hunt down the player and try to kill them. Only a select set of animals can enter this state (Wolves, Bison, Buffalo, Lions, some Bears, and Pigs)

STALKING and CHASING are exclusive to animals with predator interactions (wolves, pumas/mtn lions, and lions). they denote that the animal is going after a prey animal (they won't actually kill it if you're curious)

Is it just me or do all of the bears gather together at night, at the top pond of Lake Prospect, on Silver Ridge Peaks? I have found 10 Hard-Very hard (all male) lvl bears. Not only do I see only a half dozen of them during the day, around that area, but 95% of them are Easy, Very Easy, or Female. Night hunting seems to be the way to go around that area if you want bears.
