I try to pick a spot with open fields as much as possible in every direction, because geese can fly a few hundred yards before they drop, and they're easier to find in open fields than in forest

the decoys will do most of the work. I use the caller if I hear them and occasionally if it's dead quiet, just to hopefully lure in ones which might be at long range (500 yds effect on the caller) but really you don't need to call at all. Gives you something to do while you sit there

328 yds - almost halfway down thin line
384 yds - To edge of thin line
438 yds - Edge of thin line or hair below

chances are, there's nothing about

so you may as well just run and pick up whatever it is you knocked over

but before you do run and make all that noise

have a look around - if you've go other stuff that's > 200m away, it won't have spooked from the shot

so keep taking them down until you end up losing zones or they all scarper

I'm not a bow hunter - rifles mostly for me, but I think you can shoot 4 with a bow normally and then there's some multiplier fo rthe stand (x4?) which means you don't get so much pressure / lose zones

.338 is easiest step up from the 7mm, but the .300 is ultimately superior for weight, rounds it holds

.338 is probably otherwise equal to .300 it is a great class option

If you get a side view, always go for double lung which is easy. If you have a frontal view, Moose aren't terribly hard to get a heartshot on - their heart is big, and you just aim for the low center of the chest

If you have a rear view, wait for it to turn enough to get one of the lungs, or you could go for the Texas heart shot, which @hidden basin can explain sometime

Only that the most terrifying thing that can happen to you in this game is to get "moosed." A warning call from a moose which is within 100yds, when you didn't know it was there, will often require a change of underwear.

Just as important - maybe more - is your sound meter. For each bar in this, your sound travels roughly 50m. Normal walking on even ground without brush sends noise 150m ish. Running makes every animal aware of you within 200-250m. When you get within 200m, if you need to get closer for a shot, go slow, crouch or go prone

This is from my own profile. Most of the reason the hearing one is so high is from driving the ATV, but even without it, that number would be probably 10x higher than the others

-verify files through steam

-unplug any controllers you have plugged in (seriously, this has fixed the issue for some people)

Not certain but I know that you can hear their calls from beyond the range of most of your own callers which is about 218 yds for most of them. If I had to guess I think I've seen animal calls from animals which were between 300 and 400 yds away. I doubt farther than that. It might simply be as far as render range, which is something around 450ish yds

When you host your map, those animals are the same as your SP map, and respawns will work as if you were on SP

My PC is usually able to run things like Star Citizen well, I'm not sure why but for some reason whenever I play The Hunter, using other programs (Discord, Google chrome etc) is like a death sentence for my game

I've been able to run a lot of other demanding games but for some reason Hunter + Any other programs in the background just ends up loading slow and crashing, I'll try to re verify files etc and see if that fixes it first.

The bottom pin doesn't quite reach 100 m/yds with the 420 gr arrows and with default zeroed in... for the most part what TacticianLyra said is pretty close, anyway that's what is working for me. I wish we could adjust sights manually, I would like to have the 3-pin set up like I have mine irl...

If you're specifically looking to cover class 9 animals, .300 will do that just fine

#

However, in a reserve without class 9, the muzzle loader will be more than enough

#

Only problem with it is the lack of range beyond ~200m, and low zoom scope, so you can use any of the other bolt actions if you prefer the range

#

Bow can do anything at short range

The Galileo scope I believe is better than the Ascent, so if you haven't unlocked the Hyperion or the Argus yet then it'll still be a better zoom

Dont worry. I'm like two days further into the game than you.

Silver ridge peaks is more beginner friendly. Just spot from far away. Find a good lake or need zone then pick animals off around it.

I wasn't specifically trying for 100, but tried to put in practice with each pin to see how close TacticianLyra and Ormy's were for distance. The 20, 40, 60 were pretty close. I don't try for long distance with a bow, I use the bow as close to as irl hunting. But thank you for sharing Ormy's 👍

while the mosin covers 3-7

I'm new to the game so I don't really know how everything works yet but it is really complicated with all of the different weapons and idk if this is just the game or me being a rookie but so far my experience with the game has just been shooting an animal once, running for 20 minutes after the trails and then making another shot while repeating the process. If you look at the ammo in your storage, it will tell you what class of animals you can hunt with that ammo!

I would look all over Balmont, Cheelah Lake, and I've got some herds up in Chopeeka too. Since Layton was updated, white tail seem more scattered around, to me anyway

Well around Cheelah lake you're mostly aiming at drink zones and I don't recall what those are. I would just look around the lake for WT tracks and find need zones by tracking them

I've spent more time on Layton this playthrough starting in September than on any other map, and I've found White Tail herds in pretty much every zone. But there tend to be one or two groups per zone, and no zone seems to be a concentrated area for them. I've found some reliably in the shore area south of the railroad where you start on the map too.

WT drink time on Layton is around 12-15:00, but I've had some weird ones. Best bet is to check water around that time and find your drink zones. And yeah, I've found them pretty much everywhere, but Balmont and High Lake regions are the best for me.

as for the bow, try unequipping the bow from your inventory (remove it at the inventory cache), re-equipping it, then try equipping the ammo again

there's four checks you need to pass to get the highest medal possible on an animal. they are:
-Use appropriate ammo (i.e. using the .243 on a fox will pass this check, but using the .270 on said fox will fail it)
-Hit at least one vital organ (vitals are the left/right lungs, heart, liver, lower/middle/upper neck, and brain)
-Do not damage the trophy organ (this is almost universally the skull, so dont aim for the head)
-Shoot the animal no more than twice

So lets say you have a gold-scoring animal in front of you. if you pass all four checks, it makes gold. if you fail at least one check, it drops one level, in this case, from gold to silver

Hey, so a friend and I just bought the game (and all DLCs) on humblebundle. We've been playing 1-2 hours and shot some animals. We just wanted to play a quick session to get a feel for the game. However we have some questions

Does all progress get saved in multiplayer? Should always the same person host, or does it not matter? We intend to always play together.
I've seen that in singleplayer there is some kind of mission. Is this simply the tutorial? Should we complete it? Is it available in multiplayer also (I think there are "challenges" in its place?). Do we miss out on something if we only do multiplayer and never singleplayer?
Generally, what should we focus on first / do first? What would be recommended to "get into the game"?
Regarding the DLCs, should we wait to use / activate some features or should we do just anything right away? For example, I think I'll wait with the dog such that I will get a better feel for hunting without one

For now we really like the feel of the game but are a bit lost

Yes, host only matters if they have tents or other stuff in the map, If the other does not have tents and blinds and the other does the one who has should host, also if you dont own the map any tents or blinds dont save but if I remember right if you own the map you should save the things

Missions are singleplayer only - they're not essential to the experience, so you're not losing much in the way of core game play by only playing multi-player, but most of the storylines are fun to play through and there's some exclusive rewards from missions, so I'd recommend checking them out eventually.

Having all DLCs, you have less pressure on unlocking gear through weapon scores, but I'd still reccomend putting in the experience to unlock some of the things you need weapon score for - mainly rifle scopes. Essential gear like rangefinder binocs and callers are unlocked with character levels, so try to raise that up as much as you can too.

If you mean the quest that asks for a draw weight of 60lb, you HAVE to use the Razorback or the Bearclaw, since those are the only CB-60 bows

If it asks for a draw weight of 70lb, you have to use the Hawk Edge for the same reason

if you fast-travel to a tent or outpost, any animals within a 200m radius of it will not be rendered in. so set the tent around 250m away just to give some wiggle room

Question: How do you find out how many of each species you've harvested? I keep seeing people say "I got my diamond XXX at 286 kills" but I don't know how they're counting them. Is there a screen I've missed somewhere? I'd like to know how many mule deer I've knocked over and still haven't found the diamond I need to finish PF...
