Don't really need the caller if you have decoys. Now and then you'll have a flock ignore you, but I've found when that happens, nothing will convince them to come down.

In my experience that's not unusual. Ducks don't fly in as regularly as geese. Sometimes I'll get two flocks in ten minutes, and then probably nothing for hours, so I try to return to the blind a few times in a day, when need zones change typically

and, overall, I don't think anyone fully understands how ducks are intended to work, it's an issue with lots of unknowns

I love it, but I will tell you that it is the second level which gives you longer range is the one that is most useful. For most rifles, it makes your default shot distance from 168 yds to 328 yds.

shorter range zero I have used more for bows if at all

but basically, if an animal is 328 yds away, if you turn to max zeroing, you can use something like an M-1 and put it right in the crosshairs instead of adjusting for bullet drop

I also had another question which is more quality of life than anything, I find that when I scope in I am not aiming where I expect to be oh, is it just inconsistent or is it an unusual position not the center of the screen like it would be for most first person shooters? Is there any way to adjust that or maybe some screen overlay that puts a. Or something where the crosshairs will be when aiming down sights?

I find this to be the case when using the Argus scope because it is such long range, and only switch to it specifically for long range shots. The others I just try and line my point of view up before aiming

Is there any advantage to increase fov? I know that in twitch shooters increase field of view makes it so you can take in more information but in this sort of game information is basically binary, you mostly only know what you have directly put in your sights and once you take a shot it pretty much erases everything else within range of you so I feel like feel the view is not as important here

Hey guys - does anyone know whether diamond mule deer on Parque Fernando are still a thing? Or are they bugged currently? I'm doing the mission where you get a diamond of each animal and had everythign except a mulie in under 3 weeks. I've watched all the guides and been grinding mulies since then and it's been now been 2 months solid, and the nearest I've got is a level 4 / 303.5. I know I'm seeing more level 3's and 4's than when I started, but no level 5 yet. Starting to get a bit tired of it but I want to finish PF so I can get started on one of the reserves I haven't played yet...

Te Awaroa is also pretty well populated and comes with the .303, which is arguably the strongest 4-8 rifle. Other than that I'd recommend Yukon, which comes with the .300, a great gun for animals of class 7-9.

Medved is awesome for night hunting, all of the other maps are awesome as well

I'd say along with SRP, which you have played already, TA and Yukon are also great beginner maps. Medved and Hirsch are said to be harder to hunt, although I'm fairly certain that people just play Medved at the wrong times of the day, as it is mostly optimized for night hunting, with drink times etc.

I played Yukon for about 20 hours before I tried anything else. It's also why I bought the game - once I've finished PF, I'll probably go back to it and finish all the side missions. It's a good map and especially for the .300 / opportunities for long range shooting. I got the steam achievement for 400yd+ shots on there. One (obvious) thing I will say though, is it feels very big. It's got plenty of need zones, but - in my experience - they are mostly concentrated in small areas with big distances of "not much" between them. You won't happen upon animals on the way to places as often as on other maps (e.g. PF, Te Awaroa) so be prepared for that I guess.

you will usually find bucks where you find does. Blacktail does seem to run to callers while the bucks are more leisurely getting to you. They seem more likely to be walking around by themselves than whitetails, which are almost always roaming around in groups of 3-6. I would just keep looking all over Balmont, they are there.

I find blacktails all over, especially down at water level, but in the woods too. It's only once you start getting high enough that the trees are sparse that you won't find so many. Water edges hold drinking zones which is always a good place to find anything

idk if you know this but you can press Enter to confirm the buy. So you can click on buy and instead of moving the mouse to the middle of the screen to confirm, you press enter. This way it goes a bit faster if you buy a lot of ammo. Stay on the right side and click-enter-click-enter etc.

OK, provocative question: what's the point in the .223 soft point ammo? What, on what map, is it good for? I was trying to use it and the poly ammo on Hirsch' for red fox last night and even with good hits they were running a long way. Hit a bone and they were running 100s of yards if they dropped at all. IRL, this is the same cartridge as NATO use for knocking over people at 600 yards plus. Surely even a weakened version in the game should be able to knock over an 8kg fox...? Was I just having a bad time of it or is it this crap for everyone? I did then switch to the .243 and knock over some nice red deer, so I get that it's possible to take stuff well with the smaller calibres...

I prefer making one perfect shot with a slightly less powerful caliber, and not just yeet a shot at the general area of the chest of the animal, I prefer to be more precise, that is my preference in all games with guns. I basically prefer being a sharpshooter.

Well, yup, on one level, I hope we all do. I suppose it's difficult (and kind of annoying) to have to have the differences between the game and RL as great as they are. Admittedly, IRL there's always the outside chance of something really weird happening but at the same time, it's a bit crap to take shots that would kill a fox on the spot with a real 55gr SP and find in-game that, as mentioned above, it's limped off, wounded.

Agreed. I've always thought that the whole integrity thing was broadly a good component of the game but in spite of the need to balance the game, what lets it down is that although they've been broadly realistic about how much gun you need, the actual effect of making the right choice lets it down. I know they wanted to "big up" the tracking element, but most of the deer I've shot (IRL) have been double-lung hit and dropped on the spot or within 5-10 yards. A badly shot deer will of course run for ages, but the idea that they'll go for 200 yards after a good broadside shot is bonkers. Ah well. I will try to enter into the spirit of the game and be ultra-precise with the .223.

No, that's a fair point. I don't know if it's my favourite - I grew up on NES / SNES games and I think a couple of those have never been bettered, but I don't think I've played any game as much as COTW in the last 15 years. It is very good indeed and I'm grateful we have it. I think I might go back to Hirsch' this evening and give it another try. Perhaps call in a few roe. Also wondering about musk deer on M-T but I was saving that for a final run when I've earned all the other Steam achievements...

I would like the Grelck better if its bullets had more oomph on 8 and 9s. The thing that gets me with it though is I’ll use buckshot and slugs in addition to birdshot, and when you switch shotgun cartridge type it reverts to bullets, and I’ve shot a lot of rabbits and turkeys with heavy bullets from that

Yes. I grinded for a diamond Ogro (killed it 99 times) and encountered it maybe 15 to 20 times. You seem to have fixed it, but for others reading: Just restart the game. It doesn't matter whether or not you killed the wolf, restarting will give you a new one

It still exists, but it’s been dramatically reduced in magnitude (i.e. you can actually play on Vurhonga without it becoming a slideshow after 5 minutes!). A patch was released a couple months ago to address that issue

In addition to what Lyra said, you have to keep in mind that it is very situational and not a gun to be used as an allrounder. It is very limited in effective range, besides being limited to only C9 animals. I use it on Vurhonga mostly as a defensive option against charging buffalo and lions - there's no better alternative except possibly the .454 revolver. Also, when Lyra says it's expensive, she isn't kidding. 10 rounds cost ~2k.
The .300 on the other hand is arguably (ARGUABLY, before the .338 fans come running again) the best gun in the game for classes 7-9, you just need to grind a bit of rifle score and money. I don't know what Lyra means with "it's the second to last gun you unlock", by rifle score? Because it was one of the first guns I bought.
Anyways, I highly recommend the .300!

It'll be worth it and you'll use it plenty. IRL it's not really as big as you'd want if you were hunting lion and buffalo but in-game it does fine. One trick to mention: you should be able to knock over buffalo with lung shots and poly tips from good range, but if you do screw up and one charges you, whip the scope off as fast as you can and follow up. I quite often leave it unscoped if I'm around buffalo / bison and hunting something else - just in case...

Eh, it's fine I think. I bought the 7mm until I managed to grind the rifle score, but I didn't need to use it much. It always depends on how much DLC you have. I played mostly Hirsch at the beginning and used the Drilling for Bisons, looking back, I shouldn't even have bought the 7mm and should've stuck to the Drilling and straight up save for the .300.

hi guys i have an issue with the game. I played like 16 hours without problems, and i was playing on ultra graphic mode. But since i played in night somehow it started crashing. Now i have lower graphic settings but still. Im playing for like 30 mins and then on the ground i see sky, like there is no grass im just walking on clouds. I have RX 580 8gb version. I reinstaled the game also upgrade gpu drivers but it keeps crashing. Please help me 😦 edit : when it crashes radeon setting also crash and reset themselves to deafult mode.

That means you get it from a mission (for free) or it’s locked because your weapon score is too low

Morning chaps. Still haven't found my diamond mule deer on Parque Fernando. Could y'all have a look at this map and tell me if I'm missing any good spots? I'm grinding the drink zones. I shoot as many males as I can without losing the zone, then move on to the next one. I can usually get 5-6 done in a morning / evening (in game), then I sleep through and do the next one. Great for cash generation; not so good for the mission / steam achievement. The tents I'm using shoudl be obvious. Zones I'm shooting are marked with blue spots. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You're pretty much right on the lake where you have the tent just slightly Northwest of where your character is located in the first Blue Dot is where I got mine at I do recommend taking 1 morning drink time and searching the traveling to The Outpost down there in the bottom right that's nearly right on the bank of the Big River go North to that little slew then follow the bank of the river all the way down and South to the bottom edge of the map checking out if there's any mail deer down there because mule deer do exist don't they so that would be a place to look

For really if you want to search the entire Eastern riverbank but down there seems a little better in my opinion I've mostly only seen the random Doe and small buck north of that location

i bought this game i played it with friends for like an 16 hours on ultra details all was good. Then i got bug textures, like there was sky on the ground, and after there was some green triangles also pixels was shiney white or black. After that my game keeps crashing and everytime its crash it fkup my pc too like discord is full black and i have to reset pc so this really suck.

Also, are you playing borderless/windowed? because I can see your task bar on the screenshot. Maybe try going fullscreen. It doesn't sound like that's the biggest issue here, but I used to have lots of problems with games playing in borderless mode instead of fullscreen when I had worse PCs

Most of the time penetration because your main goal is to hit a vital organ

#

Expansion makes it bleed more which makes it die quicker but doesn't penetrate as much and has a greater chance of not hitting a vital organ over a long distance or frontal shots

Yes, although I'd go with the Mosin (Solokhin) and .303, because TA has lots of spots where you can shoot at max range, and unless you want to be creeping up to everything, the Air rifle doesn't do that.
You can easily take both as well though.
I think I run the Virant .22, the Mosin (basically only for class 3), the .303 and the Cacciatore 12G - if I'm in the mood to annihilate some pigs

Any shotgun. The Couso and the Cacciatore are my favorites for their ammo capacity and ability to take scopes. Short of those, the three skins of the .10 gauge can give you 9 rounds without reloading

They all basically shoot birdshot equally well, but the 1891s hold 3 rounds a piece, and you can equip all three skins for them simultaneously

.22 LR is good for class 1s at range. Shotguns can take out more than one goose at a time. I usually equip 2 shotguns and the Virant and use the Virant on the geese which might make it out of shotgun range

oh another tip is to use a tripod and not the layout blind, tripod gives much better view and you can aim without spooking the geese unlike the layout

well, if you kill any animal, you should see an option to save harvest or taxidermize it

if you hit taxidermize, you will see a confirmation

if you hit yes, then it will be ready for your lodge
