It is also short range, so you are better off with a bow or XBow which can shoot everything, or the .300 or .338 which can at least do 7 and 8 and at long range

That certainly works. .300 and .338 are better, but if you don’t need a quick kill bonus and don’t mind pursuing wounded 8s and 9s, the 7mm has a place

That's how I've used it and how I recommend it as well. The moment you get enough money and rifle score, you should absolutely check out the .300 or .338 if you don't have Yukon, though

What Lyra said and even more. Even post-processing software isn't allowed to be talked about for some reason, even though it doesn't inject itself into the game. No third party program or mod at all, then you're good

The accuracy figure on guns is not all that meaningful, since it is really so much in the player’s control based on aim. I see it as a description of how much deviation from a pure bullseye you get with shots at longer range, but it seldom makes a differrnce

The .300 is fantastic. I'll carry the 7mm as a backup if I'm bow hunting, because it's got the 4-9 class range, but otherwise, I carry the .300/m1 combo

Not true at all. You always say that. There's so many situations where I shoot more than 1 animal out of a herd. Most people do I would argue. Also if you do shoot at high ranges 300-400m, a follow-up shot might be a good idea, no matter if you're very good at shooting or not

I've been grinding Gemsbok and the .300 is amazing at that. When they're feeding, they're nicely dispersed in groups of 5 or 6 and usually far enough apart I don't spook the other herds. Two from each is nice

I think I'm a pretty good shot, and I don't necessarily grind all the time, yet I still find myself in situations where I use more than 1 shot often enough, maybe that's just me though. I'm actually using the .338 the next time I'm on a map with large game, since I unlocked the Parque special edition, but I really prefer the .300

I love it on maps that don't have animals in the class range 7 and 8 (Hirsch and Parque for example) and where I know I can get close to big guys easily. It is a special gun for fun though, not ideal in most situations. The only map where I use it every time is Vurhonga, because it is a great defense against charging Buffs and Lions. But I still carry the .300 on Vurhonga as well. 470 strictly for defense or if I am suddenly 50m away from a Buffalo for some reason

personal preference👍 the .300 is a nice gun though, I just think it should be considered equal to the .338 instead of superior, this can apply to most other guns honestly. I personally hunt Hirschfelden a lot so I prefer the .338 if I have to choose either the .300 or .338, Bison are slow so even with 1 bullet I can still get a few, for stuff like Gemsbok, the .300 (I will admit)has a slight advantage!

I think the 4 bullets grant the .300 being called superior, especially since a lot of people asking about this are new to the game. But it absolutely is personal preference and you can't go wrong with the .338 as well!

Yup I've used it for that purpose even. Just curious as I'm trying to map out the NZ pathways of my WT herds on Layton. I was using a blind a short while ago and shot a WT buck from it. As I was heading to pick it up, I crossed a WT doe track, and intended to go back and follow that after picking up the kill (which was definitely a buck), but after harvesting him the track was gone, and while that might somehow have been related to harvesting a different animal, I am thinking it might have been very old or something

Anyone else have an issue finishing Sommer's "controlling the land" mission? It requires you to harvest different animals in different regions. I've gotten the "complete" pop up for Fallow deer is hirschdorf, Red deer in Rotwald, and bison in Rinderland. The last one is Boar in Hirschfelden, which I've done twice now, but I can't complete it.

Rancho is unparalleled for small game I think. Since you can hunt anything with the right weight arrow, when I want to level archery I pick a map with animals which are very responsive to callers, so you can bring them into range and not have to crawl everywhere. Layton is one of the best for that, as the deer, moose, and elk respond to callers like they were magnetized

Np. I just about don’t even use scent eliminator on Layton anymore, since I’ve seen that even when they are directly in your scent trail, they will stop, get cautious, make a warning call, and then keep right on coming, if you are in cover and don’t otherwise alert them

And Layton is shangri-la for cover, as almost every bit of shrubbery gives max cover either crouched or prone.

there isnt really a way to make one since need zones are randomly generated for everyone (i always abbreviate this as "YPMV: Your Population May Vary")
there are, however, areas where need zones are likely to show up, and that's what most need zone "spreadsheets" try to show

actually something funny that led to a question which I can still ask here and be appropriate to channel. I was just leaving Layton to go to Cuatro until a few hours pass, but I was in a tent changing my setup before changing maps, and I heard footsteps, and through the tent window I see a lowly level 2 WT buck. Here's the question - I stepped out of the tent and shot him with a .12 gauge slug, but COULD I have shot him through the tent window?

Connect the dots skill is very useful on those kind of situations. I've managed to figure out very complex paths with that. Of course if you know that animals need zones then it might be just extra work but if not it's pretty handy

not a greater chance of getting one per se, but it should eliminate one way you can screw one up

#

diamond spawns are all RNG-based

#

there's four things you can do to mess one up:
-use improper ammo (this is what the four-weapon loadout is meant to stop you from doing)
-miss a vital organ
-hit the trophy organ
-shoot the animal more than twice

(note: on class 1, the "hit vital organ" and intact trophy organ" checks are automatically passed regardless of where the bullet hits)

they are good if you wait for broadside shots or can hit neck shots, the range of Soft-Points depends on the caliber, .223 you want to be close-medium range depending on the animal you shoot maybe long range, .303 is for all ranges, but again, depends on the animal you shoot. Overall are Soft-Points good for long ranges? Yes, but their perfomance depends heavily on the player’s skill.

Hi, when I go on steam for the CoTW DLC, I see there are free DLCs to download. When I click download, the game starts. When I enter the DLC tab in the game, it takes me to the steam browser, when I click download there, steam asks me if I have a steam application, if I want to click yes, nothing happens. I wonder if the game did not install these add-ons automatically when downloading the game 😛

You know, I was still using it successfully around that time

I mean, the Couso replaced it almost entirely, but after a couple weeks I did start hunting geese with my old 20ga+10ga setup again, just to burn through all that ammo

And the 10ga never performed outside of spec

Pack Mule perk is the best option, but you have to invest in the Ambusher tree enough to prevent you from getting Disturbed Vegetation
