Middle pin depends on your zero range, and if you don't have any zero perks it defaults to 40m

Adding a backpack will increase visibility and noise for you and will make it easier for animals to see and hear you, unless you sit back a few hundred yards and snipe all day then it wouldn't matter lol

I'm sorry i asked this a very long while ago, but is there some guide on how to get Diamonds in Parque Fernando? It's been almost a year since i started the "get all diamons" mission and i've yet to see a Blackbuck or Puma of the highest rarity. Youtube videos and following the heat zones doesn't seem to help much, and the options of waiting it out for a few days or culling the population to proc spawns doesn't do it either. I don't think 1k hours on the game is that much, but it feels really crazy that after all this time i didn't even get a chance at at least one of said animals.

I had all but Red deer puma and axis on initial spawn then about a week or off and on Red deer grinding got the red then after 3 months of off and on puma grinding which I say I probably killed at least over a couple hundred and 4 trolls but finally got the puma you just have to continue killing the animals and make sure you check out every spot they can be which for pumas they can pretty much be at every body of water so you just have to check look and kill and look for max weight tracks

Another way to tell is if you can highlight them when spotting with binoculars. If it doesn't give you the view animal option [E], then you can't shoot them. Get them to land with decoys and caller

leading shots is a crucial skill for hunting birds. the basic premise: the bullets, shot, arrows, etc. are projectiles and dont travel instantaneously. so you need to aim in front of the target to secure a hit.

in short: dont aim for where your target is, aim for where they are going to be

your options

1. rangefinder
2. spot animal with binos and check in map your distance to it
3. night binos from the dlc

check the "effective range" on its ammo

Just a quick question, are shots “stronger” at close range? Like say I have a 7mm regent magnum. If i shot something at 300m vs something at like 50 or so, does the shot lose power as the distance gets greater? I thought i heard someone say before that shots are a bit stronger up close

You get better penetration for sure at close range, which is where the soft point/expanding bullets are useful. Close range makes up for their lack of pene compared to polymers. So basically yes, over distance you lose kinetic energy

I think most players (myself included) use Polymers almost all of the time and I might use a soft point if under 75 yds but usually a polymer does the job at that range too.

Are animals supposed to stop bleeding if you shoot them in the vitals?

I shot a female black bear in a lung but it stopped bleeding once it reached 0-25%

I think that's unusual but I don't think there is a rule that a shot to the vitals means the animal will necessarily bleed out. It would almost be hard to do, but if you used an inferior caliber for the animal I could see nicking a lung or liver and it not dying perhaps?

That is a tough couple missions there. If you have the .300 or .338, use them, but if not, the 7mm can do it. Closer you get, the better. A double lung shot might do it, but a heart shot will almost always get it. When I did it, I shot a bison to see where the heart was, and my rule of thumb was that it's around the elbow of the foreleg, when looking from the side

I pretty much feel the same and if the map has class 2s I usually equip the good old Ranger, and a higher caliber rifle for anything over 4. If there are no class 2s or I don’t intend to shoot any, the Mosin is a little more powerful and Cashnip is right, the Mosin is pretty much the poster child of a weapon for which the stats mislead you to underrate it. Also How Bout Dem Eers (well maybe not this year in football but always tops in NCAA Rifle)

I suspect if you put the max you may get more but every flock flying over head will land for a half dozen if you use caller for insurance

I put them down in the middle of a strawfield, and put a tripod right stinking next to them, since they tend to land within 20-30 meters around the decoys, not on them, and then no matter which side they land on you get short range shooting. Just have to watch if one lands in your scent cone they can abort landing or take off right away sometimes, but by then they are easily within shooting range so just watch for them to abort landing and fire away if they do

Some people manage to drill every one of them but I content myself with one or two from each flock as I don't like missing

I havnt played COTW in years, and I have been playing alot more and decided to buy some map DLC’s. Im wondering which one will be better for my play style. I would recommend Silver Ridge Peaks. A lot of the species don’t have callers, and if you like hunting drink zones it’s not great. But there’s a lot of open fields and clear sight lines that serve as feed zones. And a lot of the species have really long feed zone times. It’s a good map to be able to spot a lot of animals during the day.

Plus one of the callers which DOES apply on that map is the Elk caller, which works like a magic elk magnet. Never had an Elk just decide to long distance chat with me over caller while lounging in a need zone like Red Deer will do.

The three weapons it comes with are some of the best and most popular. The .50 cal Hudzik is the star, which can shoot anything class 3 to 8, and while it doesn't pass harvest check for 9s, will destroy them too.

The M-1 Garand is a great 4-8, .30-06, and JaxyBeard rated it the best rifle in game.

And the 1891 .10 gauge is the most powerful shotgun in game, and with its three ammunition types can shoot every class animal but 2s and 3s.

I've died twice only on this character I think. The first time I fell out of a lookout tower. The second time was wolves on Yukon. I was walking along minding my own business when Penelope started growling. I'm surrounded by 6 wolves and shoot 4 with the 10 gauge before the last 2 ran off. Then I was collecting the kills when the other wolf pack showed up.

@limpid tendon personally, penetration. I’m former service and if you’re accurate you won’t need to worry about expansion, being as we are trained to eliminate threats by 2 to the chest and 1 to the head (the head being the “t box” located on your face which is an instant death) which won’t be covered by any armor typically.

The idea is you don’t want to put holes in people. You want to put holes through people. How the bullet reacts also plays a role favoring penetration since the bullet will bounce anyway tearing anything it comes into contact with and then puncture through the other side

that being said, there are situations where higher penetration is less desirable, like if you're a police officer. if a bullet goes through someone or passes through a wall, it could potentially injure or kill an innocent person down the line. which is why you sometimes see police using bullets that expand on impact to limit overpenetration

Expansion is a measure of how much damage the bullet does to the organs it hits.
Penetration is a measure of how deep into the body the bullet can go.

Bullets with higher penetration have a higher chance of striking vital organs (which is necessary to get a trophy)

Before scoring 2.0, soft points were used more due to quick kill factoring into trophy rating (a single lung hit with a soft point could kill faster than a double lung hit with a polymer tip round)

Absolutely and without a doubt the .300. It's arguably the best weapon for class 7-9, while the 470 has its uses but is very limited.

The 470 is great for charging buffalos for example, but you can't equip a sight (well, you can equip the red dot, but it is bugged atm and doesn't have magnification anyways) and you can only practically kill up to 100m, while 50m is ideal. On Yukon especially I found myself doing a lot of shots at 300m, so it would be out of the question unless you'd want to sneak right up to every bison you see. The 300 is amazing for longer ranges and it has 4 shots AND it is not limited to Class 9, so you can actually kill bears and moose with it as well.
Now you also have the reasons ^^
