Watering holes are great places to find animals, however, most of the ground blinds you can build near them are poorly positioned, and trying to stalk animals near watering holes is more likely to get you trampled by Cape Buffalo or attacked by a lion than anything.

My advice is set up in a tripod on a hill overlooking the watering hole (early morning before sunrise) and bring a range finder and a few rifles to cover every game class. Then just sit and shoot animals till you get bored or they stop showing up.

The best indicator if an animal will be diamond is their level, which you should see by spotting them, even without skills (I think). If the animal is max level (you can look those up, different for each animal) there's a chance it'll score diamond.

Getting to within 200m of an animal is a pretty safe bet

Personally... stop going to them... start getting them to come to you... look up when their drink times are (it'll be different for each map) and find their drink zones.... then get there about a half hour before their drink time and wait in a tree stand or hunting blind or tripod.

I DO NOT stalk hardly at all anymore... too big a pain in the ass... I sit and wait for them to come to me. But mind the direction of the wind... they'll still be able to smell you... but up in a blind they will have to be VERY close to see you.

Start learning how to master tree blinds, scent directions, and timing... and the real prey will present itself to you... instead of having to chase it down.

Also learning how to sit still and wait... and watch your scent direction... will help you learn the most important basics about stalking your prey should you need to for a real trophy... or to get to where you've got a good shot on one... or getting close enough to make sure you've got the perfect shot.

Start with that basic tree blind and hunting blind hunting... calling... waiting... and watching... and you'll learn a lot... soon the gold and diamond rank animals will come to you.

with the air rifle each dot is 50m, the .22 has it as 100m (I think)

It took a friend like 2 or 3 days to get a albino Harlequin duck to come back to its zone he was about to give up and I told him give it one more day and boom it was there

They'd just run you over if you're unlucky. I've used them on TA, on the side of the river that's higher up, overseeing the zones on the lower side opposite the river, which worked well. I wouldn't put them up anywhere, where I could land in-midst of a stampede, as I think you can be hit in there, same as with hunting stands that are on the maps

Attempting to compare, say, .243 to .338 is like comparing a race car to a semi truck. They’re made for entirely different things

Also bows can have much more penetration, but you have to get closer to the animals. The 600gr arrows literally impale bisons/buffalos, something that's only possible with the 470 or 454. But everything depends on the situation, the animal you're shooting at, can you get close, what's the angle, etc.

The key to bow hunting: you don’t get close to the animals. Instead, you get the animals close to you. Callers are your best friend when bow hunting

Find a nice need zone and put up a stand and watch them just keep coming

Also make sure you have appropriate-sized arrows for the animal you are hunting

One thing to keep in mind: there are three arrow types: arrows, traditional arrows, and bolts.
Arrows go with the compound bows
Traditional arrows go with the traditional bows (recurve and longbow)
Bolts go with the crossbow

Each arrow type has three sizes for different sized game

Yukon is nice as well, in the wetlands in the middle there's herds of Bison, Caribou and Moose, and you can get pretty close. Any map should do though. Getting close is the tough part at first. Also if you have the high tech pack, getting started with the rangefinder sights might be a good idea

A couple of them are a decent challenge ('kill boar without hitting lungs and pass the harvest check' comes to mind) but the rest aren't too bad

It's more about being able to hunt Medved effectively than anything else

Well, let me just explain the problem and perhaps someone has a better solution. On Hirsch, I have the "photograph a fallow deer with the lake behind" quest, which was a pain on my first playthrough, but this time I have only found one drinking zone where I can do that, used by one stag, and having tried several times, I can't get a spot from which I can take the pic - lots of bushes but none provide actual cover, the only trees I can put stands in are close enough that he'll detect me even in them. I want to make a new drinking zone there somehow

They have certain times that they fly thru those areas.. if u have multiple decoy sets jump yo them and check what time spawn around them or if u have only few do the same to figure the timing

They are not common though, I think they are the same as other animals - roughly 1 in a hundred. I've played through SRP and TA story lines and granted they are both short, but I'd still say I killed about 80 turkeys and haven't gotten a diamond yet

.300 Magnum in general, up close and personal the 470, but if you have room for a 5-weighing gun that is only used on charging Lions and Buffalos is another question. There's also a lighter option for up-close, in the .454, if you have the pistol score for it.

20 goose decoys for maximum effect, this applies to duck decoys too.

Hirsch, I tend to have luck finding males on the north side of the map, and Cuatro they're really all over the place. Just have to hang around lakes at drink zones.
