What are some of the things within player's control for any given trophy rating? Do things like distance matter?

The only things under your control for trophy rating are the harvest checks:

• Ammo of the correct class
• Not shooting an animal more than twice
• Hitting a vital organ (lungs, heart, liver, neck bone)
• Not shooting an animal's trophy organ (skull)

Passing all of these will give you the medal associated with the animal's trophy rating, failing any one will degrade the medal by one step

The actual number of the trophy rating is a fixed number determined when the animal is spawned, and there's no real way to manipulate it

The animals can smell you, stay quiet, aim for heart and lungs, and try to learn what types of ammo is best for what animals. Don't make headshots and work towards unlocking the hyperion scope.

Hi everybody. I posted this elsewhere but think this is now the right channel. COTW repeatedly crashes on my PC. The main menu loads fine. I select to continue my game, the game loads I can turn my character, I can open the menu but if I take one footstep, the game freezes and crashes to desktop. This has happened many many times now, and it always crashes as soon as I move. I send bug fix reports every time. I have uninstalled and reinstalled but still get the same result.

Pay attention to the wind. If it’s heading straight towards the animal it will sense you from farther away.

Get you a long USB cable or if your computer has Bluetooth use Bluetooth and play with the controller from your bed I only use a controller for the game and I sit on my bed or my computer chair I have a rather small TV so I mainly sit in the chair for that purpose

All maps are good but Colinas might be easiest to hunt in my opinion. Easy drink times, a lot of deer drinking same time and many places to check. Hirsch is also very doable when you know where to look.

Generally, I've found that most animals respawn when I close the game and then open it again. At least, that is the most consistent way. So yes, you are right

Are you referring to the mission to hunt 3 gold hares at night? This is what I did,

1. Set the time to 19:00 this is the feeding time of hares and qualifies for the night condition
2. Fast travel to any outpost/tents with hay fields next to them, 250m distance is safe from my testing
3. Scope and shoot any hares you see
4. If you find a feed zone which is empty because you spawned too close, move away from it and check back later, the hares should return
5. Hares do feed in the sunflower fields but is not worth it since they are hidden most of the time
6. Don't bother with drink zones, too many bushes near the water edge for them to hide in and they come in singles instead of a herd
7. If you do not have the NVG from the hi tech DLC or have trouble looking for them because it is foggy, set the time to 16:00 and scope out the area first before bagging them at 19:00

It's funny that report a bug won't let you actually post in it now. 1. The Pheasants will stand there and look at you half the time. 2. That dern dog is still a bully! Always pushing me around, and when I go to take a shot it runs right up to me and nudges my gun. Come on. 3. The dog also will just stop, and not track any further now. It's happening mostly with bird species. 4. The huntermate is still broken, and half the time stops showing mission info. 5. The rabbits are still broken, just sit there or go kinda slow if they do start to move while fleeing. 6. I don't know if it's just me, but on RDA I've seen at least 30 to 40 male whitetail which were all the 153-184? LBS weight estimate. I may have the numbers slightly off. This was level 1s and 2s. 7. When completing a quest and gaining money the audio glitches. 8. All of the animal calls on RDA sound really loud, out of place, and like they are in a tin can echoing through a giant hall for me. Besides the dog being a bully I'm in no way complaining. I absolutely love the update and map.

Listen for their calls and run (yes, run) towards them. Have your shotgun ready ofc. Then you’ll hear wings flapping when they take off, then blast them out of the air

I've been having a creeping crash happen to me, I've sent reports the entire way. it used to happen once every hour, but its gradually gone down in time until it now freezes on the first loading screen after credits, I left my hunter next to the willow mission in Awaroa. If i close the game, it crashes the graphics on only one of my monitors. so the game is unplayable for me. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, as well as validated files - same issue. Strangely, pictures taken with the in-game camera all create pure black images instead of screenshots. This was for the previous update, but the newest update doesn't help. but it occurs on all maps I have access to (hirsh, layton, awaroa). I really don't want to wipe my save data. I've limited the game's FPS and disabled Vsync for the game, but I need the vsync otherwise the screen tears really badly for some reason.

Next time I have access to my PC I can get a screen recording of exactly what happens 😔

I need help harvesting an ibex shot from 400 meters. Animals don't render in at that range and if you render them in and try to move away for the long shot it is really hard to maintain line of sight of them.

I found where some are at over 400 meters but they just turned and walked like 3 feet backwards and blipped away oof

I've got them at a drinking zone but when i get them at 400 meters they start walking away while the others keep drinking

For your rendering issue, could you go to "System > Graphics" and set the scene complexity to "ultra". I believe that affects the render range of animals, although the maximum is 420m before they disappear

Set the time to 08:00, that is the drink zone time for ibexes and go to this area, the cliff gives you good sightlines and they are stationary since they are drinking

This is a known bug associated with the render glitch, and while there is a fix so that doesn't happen anymore it will not be retroactive, so unfortunately you won't be able to recover those antlers

That's normal and has been happening since the game released. If animals are just between in and out of render, they spawn in and run out of render and somehow come back and repeat until you move closer or further.

I've seen youtubers do broadsides of animals that far away with them not moving. I've had a friend shoot an elk drinking at 400 meters months ago. I was there and it wasn't moving.

Select the tree stand for placement. Then look around at the trees towards the tops. There will be a wire frame highlight on the trees you can place it on. Put the cursor over the highlight and a ghost tree stand will display. move it around until it is in the position you want, then click.

Yesterday I setup a multi-player but did not wind up having my brother join. After a while the ATV sound was real choppy and I was getting stuttering in the video. I restarted the game. Later My brother and I played for about 3 hours and I did not see that again. I have not seen it in single player yet.

The first thing i do on a new map is spawn an ATV and unlock all the outposts.

The East side of the map seem a little light on outposts. The West side has an over abundance of outposts.

The fact that I always start at the "starting point" after restarting the Yukon and Silver Ridge Map .. sucks but slowly I got used to it.
Today, after the patch and the activation of the new DLC, fast travel on the Yukon and Silver Ridge Map is no longer possible (loading screen appears but no transport to the desired location) .. the game is getting on my nerves ..
Does anyone have an idea what to do there ??

A number of outposts appear to be affected by some new bug introduced with this new update. Not all the outposts are affected. I just checked three on SRP. The Mountain Lion and Bighorn Sheep outposts sent me to the nearest spawn point. The Sneffels outpost worked. This is in the North West corner of the map. And as Shiny points out, I have no doubt they are working on it.

The curious thing is that it is only on the 2 maps (Yukon and Silver Ridge) with me, when I try to travel I always stand at the saart point of the map, but I put a tent somewhere then I can travel to the tent. how gesgat it is really extremely annoying .. well wait a bit, maybe something like a hotfix comes up ..

The .223 has either been completely nerfed or is even more broken than it's ever been before since the update. No penetration on lung shots, shooting completely through the intestines and out the other side, but it's taking 10 to 15 minutes for animals to go down with good shots. I know it's been a bad gun since scoring 2.0 come out, but what in the world. Airsoft BBs are better than this thing is now.

What animals are you shooting it with?

Coyote, Fox, Collared Peccary, Bobcat. Only the animals that it's supposed to be for. It will not penetrate a Coyote, Fox, or Bobcat at all. I can only get penetration on Peccaries with intestine shots. Lung shots do the same thing just bounce off of it basically. I've hunted down and killed the animals with other guns after to see what was going on as well. It's just broken.
