470 well kill stuff immediately in its tracks just about with the vital hit of any kind I also don't know how it is at longer ranges
338 is just a little more powerful than the 300 but is also only single shot
The 300 will drop water and Cape buffalo and bison with a single lung shot with a polymer tip bullet in about 50 75 yards of running or probably about 10 seconds I recommend the 300 because you have four shots it has good stopping power and good range and it is very accurate

Do you prefer long range or short range? A forgotten rifle is the Grelck Drilling rifle, it can take anything on the map, depending on ammo, but remember, it is short range, max 150m

If you're new and want xp/cash, i can recommend getting goose hunt and go set up on hischfelden, or te awaroa and go nuts on fallow deer

The drilling rifle is a very good rifle. It can easily kill at 300m. Only problem is that the rifle can only be zeroed to 150m max but is capable of much more. The shotguns on it aren't particularly powerful but a combo of the birdshot or slugs with the rifle can take on almost anything

My default loadout is the 303, drilling, 243 and the 22 rifle.

ok, Normally when im having issues with steam games I will do windows updates, driver updates, uninstall and reinstall steam, uninstall and reinstall the game. YOu can also check in "application logs" under windows event veiwer and see if you can find the log that points to the crash, that ones a lil hard to explain. Hopefully someone else has had this exact one with COTW and point to what fixed it for them

Pay attention to your noise and visibility levels you can see in the bottom right. one you are within 160yds, if your standing in the open / running you are too visible or loud. youll need to crouch and sometimes crawl into positions that you can see them.

This has happened to me a few times before. When I turn my back on the animal I hit or stop going to pick up the dead animal and spray it with a different animal and go back to the animal I killed, the animal I saw falling on the ground disappears as in the picture, thank god I was able to photograph it.
Footnote: We can harvest from the ground even if it is invisible.

also, a question about diamond hunting... like a grey wolf. TRhe grey wolf is a class 5 animal. Males weight range between 40-80 kg. the approximate weight of a diamond grey wolf is 75kg. the max difficulty is 9 (legendary). when spotting, I currently only see the difficulty. Is it possible to get a diamond from a grey wolf with a difficulty less than 9? or is a difficulty lvl 9 grey wolf the only type of grey wolf that will be above 75kg?

i previously found a diff 8 (mythical?), wasnt sure if that could have been a diamond or not

I don't think it's RNG at all. There's a set amount of penetration depending on whether you hit bones and such. Sometimes animals shot in close proximity will drop in the exact same spot if they're hit in roughly the same way. Try using poly tip ammo instead of soft tips. The soft tips in game don't penetrate well. You also need to be aiming for vital organ areas @lyric quest

side rant, on multiple occasions (i have one screen shot, but this happens daily) I kill an animal and go find it and the animal has disappeared. I can harvest it if I can find its dead, invisible body, but it makes it very difficult and I waste so much time. I just killed like 5 wolves and so far one is invisible and I suspect a couple others are. THis generally happens when im 500-600m away from the eventual dead body (im shooting about 250m out).

I also notice that if I harvest the dead invisible body, the tracks remain (whereas I notice that normally the tracks of a normal harvest go away), which makes finding the other dead invisible bodies harder

This is a known bug: going outside of render distance of a carcass (~400m) will make it invisible and trigger the bug you just described. It has been reported and is being worked on for the next major update, which should be within a few weeks. Until then, easy workaround is to not take long range shots like that.

While inside the lodge, you can go into your Trophy Manager from the pause menu, and from there to the Saved Harvests tab. It will allow you to taxidermy or discard the harvests that you have saved.

I had a spawn mechanic question.... one theory suggested that the game maintains a rating average, and re-spawns will use the living average and try to adjust to a pre-determined average. Under this assumption, I am trying to keep all lvl 1s alive so that my living rated average is super low to increase the chances that the respawn is of high rating. Has this theory been debunked and is my plan sound? to kill everything but lvl 1/2 animals.

I can only go from my own experience (which hasn't had enough grinding) and the experience of a few youtubers that have done grinding before

in general, killing an animal will respawn it as the same species and gender, and within the same weight estimate, ergo around the same difficulty and trophy score

so killing a 85-100kg whitetail buck (max estimate) should respawn another within that weight range

could be lv2 or lv3, depending on the rack which should change

and of course fur type can change

Hello friends! Played for more than 300 hours, there is a huge experience in hunting a coyote. I can not pass the VOILES 10 mission (get a coyote from 30 m. and closer with a bow at Lake Leviathan. I have been trying to complete this mission for more than 2 months (without exaggeration). They just don't exist! Before this mission, there were ALWAYS coyotes in this area (both day and night). As soon as the mission appeared-since then, not a single trace, not a single call of an animal. I tried sitting, crawling, sneaking, running. I studied the entire area up and down - nothing. I repeat, earlier there were a lot of coits, you could always get them, but as soon as the quest appeared, for 2 months there was not a single trace or call. Please help me! What to do? This is the only mission that remains on this reserve.

im a relatively new player and felt comfortable buying stuff after about 30 hours. it helped that I bought the weapon pack 3 because it gave me a free 30.06 rifle which I use exclusively on the yukon map. Most of my time is probably yukon and all my money has gone to penetration ammo, tents, and tripods.

Well let’s see. Medved is a map geared towards night hunting and is a bit of a challenge to hunt effectively, but it has some pretty cool species like the musk deer, lynx, and brown bear.

Te Awaroa does not have any large animals (biggest one is the red deer, which already exists on three other maps), but it’s a fairly easy map to hunt and can be fun to just blast away at some pigs or fallows

I’d say you decide which one you like better

I shoot the animal, get a hunting pressure or even see that it falls, and when tracking the blood trail, I usually come to the last one (0%-25%) and that is it.
