me personally, i always keep my GPU drivers and such up to date and verify my game files from time to time. I also play in windowed mode.

do the new zealand story missons if you haven't already. you get a free .303 rifle from them.

the .303 is a class 4-8 rifle which absolutely SHREDS the class 4-6 range and can take 7 and 8 with only a little bit of difficulty (tho it struggles against class 8)

they assign the classes to the ammo and not the weapon because most weapons can accept multiple ammo types, and some of those ammo types can be quite different from each other (like shotgun ammo, for instance)

there actually is a natural-death respawn in this game that is triggerd by harvests. So every x amount of harvests a few animals will respawn that you have not shot. Unclear if this might affect diamonds.

.303 will cause any class 4 to instantly faceplant if you hit two of any vital organ with poly tips. a single lung on a class 4 will still kill very quickly, too

.270 will only cause class 4s to faceplant with a heart, neck or brain shot (or the odd double lung + liver shot)

the animals that are most likely to troll you are Male Gemsbok, Reindeer, Caribou, Feral Goats, and Red Deer

the starter rifle will be with you forever for class 2-3 animals. for class 4-6, you probably want either the m1 from the smoking barrels DLC or the .303 from the Te Awaroa map DLC. for class 7-9, it's hard to beat the .300 mag from the Yukon DLC @slow prairie

For the muzzleloader, it depends on what you are hunting. Round balls for class 3 animals like roe deer and axis deer, minie ball for anything larger

7mm is amazing! If you don't mind the slight decrease in ammo score the 303 is also amazing as it has more capacity. I used pretty much only the 7mm for a long long time until the 303 came to the game. Of th haven't got the argue scope yet (can't remember the rifle score you need) I also recommend that :) it's the only scope I use

It's pretty common they disappear if the bodies go out of render distance if you searched around the last track you can normally find the body it all depends how far out of render it seems hopefully they'll fix it soon because it's a pain in the ass

I find the end of the trail, one or two have allowed me to accept a kill even though no body was there like they were all invisible. dog will got from tracking to idle at the last 0% health. but it is getting to the point i use more in bullets one per kill and still not making money back

yes the dog goes in the idle whenever the body is found whenever they're invisible it seems like instead of stopping and barking like normal you just have to get lucky enough to find the body and it allow you to pick it up

yeah i had at least 3 gold reds one albono Sika and many others all poof. reds 6.5 and 243 with sika, also had some goats do the same but was not as worried about those as the deer.

wouldn't recommend shooting red deer further away than 150m with the 6.5mm, or shooting them at all with the .243. both those guns are pretty underpowered, and red deer can run a good ways even when hit with .303

yeah i stopped when i lost all the kills and all my ammo, that is why chagned to tree blind within 100 yards, will just go back to another animal for a while till something works out. just hate hit a wall after only a couple weeks of play

there were about 4-5 MAJOR bugs that came along with the dog update. the 'hot fix' patch only really fixed 2 of them, and introduced another major bug. would really be best if they gave us the option to roll it back to the version before dogs while they're finishing the beta testing they should have done before releasing it

locate a duck need zone.
plop a blind down on the shore about 50m away and preferably downwind of it.
put out 20 decoys as far into the water as you can get them without drowning.
get into the blind and call about once a minute if you're in the correct time slot for the need zone.
if you get a flock coming in, call to them once or twice. they should land next to your decoys.

hitting vital organs will result in a higher bleed rate. the more of them you hit with your shot, the higher the bleed rate will be.
puncturing both lungs, or even better the heart will stop any animal almost dead in their tracks

In fact, I usually used a tool called "Borderless Gaming" to make it borderless.

I think the "carcass does not respawn if out of render range" bug is applying to that mission. Set up a tent near the gorge's entrance and restart the game. Be advised, a bison will be in that area.

The 7mm has been freezing on reload for some people lately, so you might want to go for the rangemaster. The coachmate can down bison too, but you have to be within 200 meters to have a chance at hitting a vital.

start at the south end of the big marsh or balmont lake and hunt northwards along the shoreline during their drink time. walk or crouch walk. don't run.
if you're running, they can hear you up to 250m away depending on wind direction. even normal walking can spook them at 150+m @toxic bane

i find most need zone times are pretty reliable, but drinking zones tend to be more efficient to hunt because all the animals are concentrated along the waterline instead of being spread out. they're also usually easier to spot during drink time because there tends to be fewer trees and brush at the waterline

Yeah you have the one vertical line you have to memorize where the bullets landed different ranges along that line and use the dots

Like go to the shooting range and practice and memorize where your bullets land at different targets distance

Pick an open field (Rathnfeldt or Ritterstein Strawfields are where I go) to set up a blind and some decoys, and have something to pass the time.

Schonfeldt and Mullerwald work as well

but be careful if you're in an area that has boars, because if they notice you when they're fairly close and you don't know they're there, fair chance they'll attack.

careful when distance-shooting geese with the shotgun. They can fly up to 300 meters before they go down. Or possibly out of render distance

I place my blind in the middle of the flattest field I can find that is rather large and place decoys all around in about 20 30 yard Circle and then since I finally got enough to buy it I use the pump action 12 gauge and it is marvelous for close range goose hunting and then maybe pick off a couple with the 22 as they fly off a little but six shots in the shotgun is wonderful

But geese are Level 1 animals slugs are rated from Level 7 to 9 I think soooo if you're wanting to keep integrity I recommend using only birdshot

just drop a tent + blind relatively near where they spawn, restart the game, get into the blind, and wait a bit. They just poof into existence once the mission finishes loading

What would cause me to not be able to pick up a kill? It’s a plains Buffalo and he was running at me, he died fairly close and I can see his body. It glows if I’m a ways away but when I walk up to him, nothing. No option to harvest

I’ve yet to get a diamond so ...🤷‍♀️ granted I’m hopping around maps a lot so that could be it. Got a gold moose that could hang glide with its head but that’s the best so far.

and tbh, geese coming in at dawn/dusk/night is better, because being able to shine a light on them helps you see if they're all common-feathered or not
