thankfully, there's two need zones in a place that's very close to an outpost.

Very nice ! Yeah this game has one of the best gfx imo. Depends on what you like though. I got lucky with that "Down fox /w bow" As one was sniffing around when I traveled to my tent. It didn't even notice me.

it took one I'd previously spooked walking almost underneath my treestand for me to get it. Even then, it was a second or third shot taken while it was running away that got lucky enough to wound it.

Yeah, the 7mm is great, sadly it holds only 1 bullet.

Also the frozen lakes there give good cover if you prone in the center of it. Gives a good 360 degrees view.

Just try to open the map by going to all lookout points and also all outpost to which you can fast travel. Kill everything you spot on the way and perhaps buy some lures.

The number behind the animal is the Class. Try to use the right ammo for the animal you want to kill.

If you look at an animal from the side shoot right behind the front leg in the center of the body, that's where the lungs are and those are quite big and a vital organ. Preferably use the ammo with the highest penetration usually polymer-tip. If the animal is facing you go for a heart shot it's quite low in the animal's body.

Its useful to find need zones and to go and sit there and shoot the animals that are there

Yeps, use your tent to skip time. Time of a need zone shows on the map, bottom right if you mouse over it.

This shows the 4 criteria needed to pass the harvest check.

This one shows that it affects your xp and cash reward.

@copper drum building on felix's images, there are four checks that you must pass to get the highest possible medal on an animal. they are:

1. Shoot the animal with appropriate ammo (i.e. you can use .270 on a blacktail and pass this check, but 338 on a blacktail would fail this check)
2. Hit at least one vital organ (the vitals are the lungs, liver, heart, neck bones, and skull)
3. Undamaged trophy organ (this is almost always the skull, so dont aim for the head)
4. Shoot the animal no more than twice

Notes:
-Checks 2 and 3 are automatically passed on class 1 animals regardless of where you hit them
-If you shoot the animal twice, only one of those two shots needs to hit a vital organ for it to pass the "vital organ hit" check (i.e. if your first shot hits the intestines, but the second one hits a lung, you will pass that check)

Thanks for the extra feedback CashnipLeaf. I would like to add if you fail 1 of the 4 criteria in the harvest check it's a fail and it shows as 0% on your xp and cash reward. There's no 25% 50% nor 75%. It's either yes or no. So it's kinda weird it shows in percentage.

Respawns, I’ve played for 3 months now and got 6 diamonds and my buddy has 11 and he’s played for 3 months too, keep killing things without deleting zones and get good respawns like potential diamonds or close to diamonds

if drink zones are somewhat close together, you can have one tent cover two or three drink zones

doesn't solve the problem, but it helps mitigate it. also helps use tents more efficiently

like, have one tent cover a 400m radius

once you clear out the first zone that the tent covers, go back to the tent, go to the next zone in its coverage area

No you need to go prone to it within 30m , it's doable just start your approach low.

The bear does not despawn, it's a storyline mission you can retry and do it your way, once done you'll never see it again. I wish I killed it.

If your headset doesn't have mute open a call with anyone, they don't need to accept it, and make sure audio is set to party chat. No one will be able to hear you in game and you won't hear them either unless you switch to game chat.

It's all good haha. My advice is don't rely on spooking animals to find them, diamonds are more easily spooked. If you do and you are on your own map you can reset the time to get it back in its zone. To know if something is a diamond check the trophy score and if it is past the minimum diamond score it could be a diamond (you will need to pass all the harvest checks like getting a vital, using the right gun etc) :) I get most of my best animals from multiplayer and going to spots where there aren't any or my zones found. Silver ridge peaks is probably the easiest for it (you don't need to own it to play on someone else's map on multiplayer). I tend to find most of my best animals on that at the climbers outpost and the left side of the map in general as a lot of people like hunting the bottom right side for pronghorn and may not go to the other spots

pack 1 and smoking barrels pack (pack 4) are both extremely good weapon packs.

Pack 1 has the .22, which is sooooo good for hunting rabbits, ducks, etc.
(it also has an unintended use we call the .22 trick)

Smoking barrels pack has the M1, which is almost without argument the best medium game and grinding weapon in the game

and to call geese in, you gotta be able to spot them first. if you hear geese honking, pull out the binos and look for them. if you can spot them, keep calling until they break formation and start coming down to you

M-T and Layton are both pretty easy to get money at. M-T you need a good high caliber weapon, Layton you can totally hunt with just a .30-06 or .303 and rake in good cash

Hirsch is definitely one of the more challenging locations. Mostly small/medium animals,. They can be tough to spot and even tougher to get a good shot at. Work the ridges between fields where you get a good open field of view and unobstructed shooting lanes

every time you kill an animal, it will respawn as the same animal and gender, but not necessarily same trophy rating or fur type. basically, kill as many bucks as possible and hope one respawns as a diamond.

and in my experience, diamonds have about a 1/200 to 1/300 chance of spawning

Compound bows are basically all the same. 60 is supposed to be least powerful but most accurate, 70 poweful but least accurate and 65 something in-between. I've done comparison between all the bows and arrows and differences are small. And if you have any point in pumping iron perk, they are all the same basically.

Hipshot is when you just shoot it without aiming. You can just fire it. Try it 😄

Accuracy should mean how much the arrow sways in-flight. The more accurate the bow is, the less the arrow is drifting to sides. But wind affects that more in longer distances so it doesn't matter too much. I've used CB-70 the most and never had any trouble doing accurate shots even from 60m+

They tend to take off if you put up a tripod stand. Even if you climb onto a tripod stand that was already deployed, they’ll take off.

Only way to really be able to shoot them from a tripod stand is sneak into one if you hear them nearby and call them in.

If they are already on you, there’s no point deploying a stand.

Is there a way to change colors on the map for outposts and other items? On Xbox, when I zoom in on a map, and I’m near an outpost or other place the outpost is white and the player (and his direction) is also white, If I’m heading the wrong direction, I have to move the hunter so I can see where he is facing on the map. Also I reported a bug about the outposts and other places on maps disappearing on the XboxOne version. Anyone else had this problem?

depends on the deer. with the M1, on a class 4 animal, if you hit two vitals, they go down pretty much instantly. hitting one vital will also drop them pretty quickly

he's likely at a new zone now. if you fast-travel to a tent where the animal will still be in render, i believe it causes them to spook

hello! New player here. I am playing the game for 4 hours now and I've only been able to hunt 3 animals. They seem to be running away from me before I even get a chance to actually see them. Apparently, they are running away right after being rendered. I've also kept an eye out on the wind, sound and the other factors. Now, I am writing here because, in the last 40min, I have been browsing the forums for reasons to still be playing the game. I haven't found something useful yet. Can anyone guide me towards something helpful? Thank you for your time and sorry for the long text.

1 - stay downwind of the animals. they can smell you coming from >150 yds
2 - to minimize visibility and noise either move in crouch or crawl. don't run. they can hear and see you
3 - use available cover to further minimize visibility. watch the visibility indicator, and try to maintain it at a flat line as much as possible
4 - try to find an experienced hunter to play a private MP game with you. they can help give you pointers and correct any rookie mistakes you might be making
5 - be patient. there is a learning curve to this game just like any other

So I think it counts 19.00-5.00 as night. Red deer has drink time from 17-20 in Hirsch so you should have an hour in-game time to get those from a drink zone.

Argus is great for medium and long range, but it limits your FOV and the scope body may obstruct a good portion of your vision

i personally use it exclusively because i prefer taking precision shots, and because i tend to hunt smaller animals a bit more

the FOV limitation is why i don't use the argus more. takes me longer to draw down on the target, so i have less time to aim. although, i'm considering putting one on a spare .303 for hunting mountain goats and bighorns at SRP. i always seem to be shooting at them from 150+ and have a hard time hitting vitals on those when the range gets out past 200. might be nice for a .243 setup for roe deer or chamois too

• Go to drink zones, I use the cotw br app to easily find the drink times, trophy rating, max weight, etc you may want to consider an app like it
• Take out higher level animals your population doesn't change, an animal you kill will be replaced so if you're not killing things you're going to be finding the same animals over and over
• Go to places you've not been to
• Hopping multiplayer maps is a good way to find diamonds and rares if you go to good spots without many or any zones
• Make sure you have max spotting knowledge so you can see the possible trophy rating, then you can compare it to the diamond score of that animal and know if it's a potential diamond.
• Highly recommend watching LADYLEGENDXO on YouTube for videos that compile all the drink zones for each species! Have found diamonds by going to the areas she's suggested in her guides
• Make sure you hit vital and are using the correct caliber of gun

Don't get too caught up on it though, it took me a month and about 200 hours to find my first diamond on my own map as I was still learning

What are some of your tactis to find a diamond that you have spotted on, but lost somehow and can't find him again? Do you keep visiting the need zones around the area that you spotted him? Thanks.
