Getting hunting pressure to high or wiping the herd can do it aswell deleting a need zone shouldnt be mistaken with stacking them however as if you had for example a deer drink zone on ur map and spotted some mallard drinking the need zone for the deer that used to say drinking may say mallard drinking zone instead it doesnt delete it just says most recent need zone spotted

If u spook em they usually come back in a couple minutes u will see them run off about 50m or more and then kind of dilly dolly around confused like should we go back yet but sure enough after a few minutes they walk back if u can spot them if it says calm they usually walk back if its still their need zone time

Ok so i'm hunting geese to level up my weapons/have fun but i'm afraid to hunt it too much to where they won't land. but then i remembered. since the spot with the pink hunting pressure isn't a need zone. that shouldn't happen right? (btw not my picture i found it looking for good geese hunting spots to switch it up but then i saw how pink his map was and wondered)

@spare sapphire There are several glitches happening, most noteable is animals standing still. Just had it happen on a flock of ducks, they just sat there. Also happens on other heard animals

I usually have tons around the river and lake hard tracking the buggers usually nothing but the occasional dropping

It takes a long ass time to hit every lake and river but man is it nice knowing exactly where every herd on map is

The first time i did this on the ridge alone i had 15 WT herds maybe more i just ran through it once or twice each lake after my reset ive only found a handful and almost done checking the ridge kinda sucks but the left or middle is prob way more populated

After u hit a river or lake just make sure to check the perimeter can easily find tracks so u know they are either their or find the need zone and hop to the next

my best mallard hide spot.. on the island tip of this river connection, brings ducks from all three rivers together, night ,day they will contantly come with no quack caller needed.. i'd only leave this spot, when the purple is so thick taht the ducks will refuse to land.. but across the layton map, there is no better spot to camp.. just keep a tnet nearby, cause you'll need to refill your birdshot more tahn once.. so enjoy and merry xmas 😄

I use that exact spot for mallards lol also far north of the top left of the y and far east of that spot before the river turns northward

Once you find a fox track. Go to crouch and follow it. U will either find a need zone or they will make a call to you.
As soon as you hear a call stop. Make a call. If you are not hidden, go prone and move slowly to where you will be. It is not a hard mission. If for some reason they run off, just start calling again and they will come back.

Are you always walking or running around? Do you sit still and use the callers/scents? This game is about hunting, so that means there are going to be a lot of times where you don't see something. Animals have much better sight and hearing than humans do in general. If you walk through some leaves you'll probably spook anything nearby, lol. I just started playing like 2 days ago myself.

I would switch to the EU one. Can't remember the name of it, but it's much more new player friendly.

The Roe Deer is dumb as bricks and will at least start you off doing something other than walking and crouching to nothing.

Also, when you can get one, I'd get a .22 rifle or pistol and go shoot a bunch of rabbits or something. A fairly easy way of making money and you'll come across 1-2 areas for this during the main quests.

The NA region might not have any, or they're really easily spooked. The ones in the EU one don't really care what you do. I've driven the ATV within 100ft of them or less and they just hop around.

You’ll have to play on your map a bunch to find good spots, but looking at lakes during drinking times is a good start. What bow are you using? I got the the DLC for the tracer arrows and the compound bow and haven’t looked back since.

@strong shell The basic sight on the Bearclaw is not bad at all. That's the one I'm using most of the time. Blacktails are pretty much all over the place. And yeah, as Shay said, you have to discover those on your map yourself. Try looking around lakes, they drink from 05:00 - 09:00 and 17:00 - 21:00. I have spots at all the lakes in Cheelah, Balmont Lake is a good spot usually, also the big swampy area in the middle of Balmont, you can find them along the big river-thingy at the middle of the map and also near the lake in Roonachee. Pretty much everywhere.

that's a tough one. while i do looove snowy maps in games. i gotta give it to the savannah. it's really beautiful and the russian map has criminally low animals in it. the musk deer and lynx are cool but the rest of the animals you can get in other maps. as the savannah map has lots of new animals. but the 470 nitro is a very expensive rifle that can't fit any decent glass. just a red dot sight. which sucks if you're don't realize until you save up enough money to get it. and you can only kill level 9 animals (if you want full integrity) and 10 rounds of the 470 costs 2660$ for me lol

So i've been playing the game for a long long time. i have around 400 hours in the game. i've recently gotten back into cotw and a few days ago my game has been acting really stuttery/framedrop all of a sudden, i never had that issue before. i might have ruined my perfect graphic settings. i have a 1080. so i feel like i should be able to run it on ultra with 60+ fps. is it just the games fault or is it with me/my hardware. but if it is me what is some best graphical settings/stable frame rate. i have task manager open and when the frames drop there's no noticeable spike in cpu usage when it happens. it also does it when i bring up my huntermate as well. so i have a feeling it's just the good ole cotw bugs crawling up my leg

.300 comes with Yukon map dlc and Cacciatore is bought from the in-game store but is locked until you get enough shotgun score if I remember right. No dlc needed for that.

Been working on "Mr Sommer's Bow" mission for awhile now, and have killed 2 foxes, and neither counted. What gives? The first one, my bad, I killed with a lesser-pound bow than was required... So I fixed that, and bought the Razorback Lite CB-60, which says "Peak Draw Weight 60 LB". Just killed a fox with it, no dice. What gives?

No. Hirsch is a bit more challenging map to play. You can't run and gun easily there. It's a great map but takes patience.

i can see how the bleat one attracts more females but it also says "irresistible to any nearby bucks and does" so there has to be a point for 3 callers that on paper seem to do the same thing. i understand that like the snort wheeze caller attracts springbok wildbeest, Kudu and sika deer. but in terms of hunting whitetail/any overlaping animals. maybe i'm just making too much out of it lol

Grunt is the best for those species because it's range is 250m vs 150m on bleat vs 200m on wheeze.

But bleat is the only one that attracts mule deer.

Also I've noticed that grunt is the best for sika deer. They come everytime I use it but almost never with any other caller.

Depends what do you want? Since scoring 2.0 all of the guns are perfectly viable. The 7 mm is the most versatile, it can take down anything from fallow to cape buffalo, but if I go for the biggest game I prefer the .300, the new .303 is very strong for its class, the M1 is very useful because it's semi-auto, very good for grinding for deer, the .22LR is necessary to efficiently hunt small game, the .243 is the best for class 2 animals, the Solokhin is probably the best for class 3 and my personal favourite is the Eckers .30-06.

If we are talking strictly about base game rifles, then 7 mm for sure because of the versatility.

It's a personal taste. I like how that weapon feels. Objectively it is outclassed by the M1 which is also .30-06 but it's semi-auto and 1 kg lighter.

And what do you use for class 4-6? Because that's the range for the Eckers in my loadout. The way my loadout looks like: 22LR, .243 (if there is any class 2 animal, otherwise Solokhin), the Eckers for class 4-6, and the .300 for anything class 7 and above. And if your question is why am I not using the Solokhin for class 4-6, that's simply because the .30-06 is a stronger caliber for that class range, the poly-tip has more than double the penetration and only 6 less expansion.

Since the change it is kinda in a weird place and I only use it on certain maps. But overall it's more balanced this way.

Yeah, the high tech is definitley not the most useful one out there. The range finder bow sight can be useful, but it's far from necessary. I still think the best bow sight is the basic one. I don't use the bow to take far away shots anyway.

Don't forget about the 30 30
I know you can shoot long range, but the penetration is awesome. When you have animals facing you the solikkin will let you down and the 243 is good, I just like the 30 30 for the best kill.

Night vision is great when you get away from the first 2 maps because of all the rain there. If you like predators hunting and finding a lot more animals, it's for you. CC has red deer drinking with the wolves it works perfectly

I carry 4 guns the M1, 300 mag and .338, also the 12 ga Pump for ducks. I used the 7MM alot in the early game and I remember the grind to get the gun and the ammo. Occasionally I bring it out, but the .338 breech loader is just a better gun.

Not that I'm aware of. But the lungs/heart are more or less at the same place for every species.

It's a trial and error to learn. Where to shoot from which angle. If you are on PC with right click you can view the organs of the animal when you are looking at the harvest screen.

It's definitley true that sometimes they don't get rendered if you teleport too close and they remain invisible until you go 150 m or so further from the spot. But also you can try it very easily. Look at how many animals you've spooked on your statistics screen, teleport to a tent and check it again.

It means that the ideal range for the ammo is 150 m, to get the best penetration. But you can shoot much further than that, depending on the gun. You just have to compensate for the bullet drop.

The bullet has its trajectory, the bullet drop can be sever though, depending on the gun. For example the 30-06 is pretty flat shooting, while the Drilling Rilfe has an insane bullet drop. I'm not sure if the wind has any effect on it, I have a lot of hours in the game and never had to compensate for the wind, so if there is any effect it's not noticeable.

on Hirschfelden, you have to put decoys on the fields and either have a blind or a tripod to hide.

I generally rifle hunt, mainly because you can both spot and shoot the animal from a greater distance.

All I use the starter .243 rifle for is rabbits though, upgrade to the .270 stradivarius if you want to take down deer reliably.

Read the stats on each caller for distance and attraction level also will indicate an approximate time of them. The bleat caller is 120 seconds iirc so use it about every 2min. Now wether it relates to in game minutes or rl I’m not sure. I’d assume in game time

I think you can spook nearby animals or send them into alert mode of your just hammering away on the callers. Not sure on the ratio but I kinda use them intermittently

I've noticed that it might depend on the animal. Some, like moose, you can run down, while some, like blacktail, require you to hang back and pick them off from afar

If you want to equip your backpack when you are in the store at the outpost go to the menu that allows you to change your character outfit it will have a selector bar for packs apply it there. Packs increase the noise you make while moving around so keep that in mind.

The thing is at long range, I'd be aiming for the lung, but where do I actually hit it I don't know because it ends up not bleeding no kroe even when I reach 50-75% or 25-50% blood rate

If you did very little damage with your shot, then in theory it could've stopped bleeding and lived.

Also you should compensate for the bullet drop at long range.

How I was sure it was the same? Because 10 minutes ago I shot it in the head aiming for its brain.
Then when I saw it not knowing it was it and killed it with 1 shot, I found out that it was shot twice.

Well yes, it depends on the stance and the positioning, at a really long range, the bullet won't penetrate to the heart, but would hit 1 lung.

The thing is, it's much easier to hit the lung at long range than the brain. If you miss the brain and just hit the skull and flesh, you might be tracking it forever. A lung shot will kill it fairly soon, the moose is a tank though, so it definitley will run a bit.

Not to mention if you manage, you won't get the full score for the animal.

It's a female. Antlered species like deer only get score from the antlers so females don't give you score.

Oof I've seen that posted before. If I remember right there is some background rounding happening and sometimes even if the visible score is exact diamond, the numbers actually aren't and that's why it won't give the medal. Or something along those lines.
