I discovered all outposts and PoIs on Hirsh (the hunting stands I just got close enough for the map to register what they are, didn't actually built them). When I checked my statistics it said I've only discovered about 33% of the map. So either it's a combination of both or the majority is just the fog.

Look for fallow tracks and follow them. You only need to take a pic of a fallow in the mission area, doesn't -really- have to have the lake in the background like the description says... lol.

I'd just done a recce course so the idea of sitting in a hide overlooking a drinking need zone and then taking a photo when a deer wandered into it seemed normal to me.

Does anyone know if the second tier of Fatal Attraction is worth it? It says nearby animals are more likely to respond to callers, which in theory could work with Innate Triangulation (calls have a more precise location). I'm just not sure if it's worth it for anything other than species that already vocal by nature... imagine it only increases the values by 10-15%, it is sort of a waste then.

Yeah, I should have come back and removed that / reported my findings: I got a lot closer to some cinnamon teals up the shore and was 45.5m away from the ducks, but 134.5m away from the spot, because the laser was penetrating the surface and ranging off the bottom of the pond.
So I can see the ice doing the same thing on Medved-Taiga.

I found out what was the problem ... my onw stupidity. For that mission you need to find a special bear and you have to follow him (his tracks). After that you see him, follow him again and take a picture. My picture was accepted even if he wasnt clearly visible.. so mission finished after all

Double-lung shots were made more viable but that doesn't mean they're the new meta. Any critter that takes more than 8 seconds to die is going to be penalized.
DLS are one of the easiest shot placements in this game but if you want assured 100% scores on everything then you will have to try harder and aim for specific spots that will drop the animal on the spot; brain, spinal cord or heart. Do keep in mind that in the future head shots are going to be penalized as well so better to just train your aim to hit the heart... or spinal cord.
Gotta have some challenge... not just hand-feed everything to players.

DLS is the recommended way to kill an animal IRL because it's a more sizeable hit-area and provides a quick death. IRL if an animal dies within 30 seconds that's considered good - in game 30 seconds is crap.

Lung shots should be the "It's easier but there's a chance I may lose this diamond". Alternatively you could just get rid of QK bonus in a sense it doesn't interfere with it's trophy score. If an animal takes a little longer to die, it won't make it any less of a diamond if it's the rack and weight that counts.
But the QK could be a "bonus" score that gives you more XP and credits.

The problem with caving in to the most vocal minorities is that once you give in an inch, they will want the entire arm. And then the game gets ruined for everyone, because it tries to please everyone and fails miserably.
They made a poll about the lions back then and from what I've heard people were fine with it, which is why it launched without 'em. But ya know... hunting games without the "iconics" is just asking for "trouble".

You know I'm not even sure anymore, someone on the forums did some tests regarding animal spawns and trophy ratings and it didn't look promising. My old belief was that if you found a high level near a need zone then there was a chance another could spawn from it.
There's a good chance it's all RNG based. Just be aware that, according to the tests, playing a map for too long diminishes your chances of finding higher levels. The animals that spawn in after kills come with decreased weight and trophy rating.

I have a question regarding the penetration and expansion information given in the cache/store ingame. I checked multiple forums, but i could not figure out what it means. Or the answers were to vague to be actually helpful. I am well aware of what penetration and expansion means in general. Is it a certain rate that influences the effective range? But in what kind of unit? Or is it just an approximation of what to expect when one wants to use a certain type of ammunition. Thank you in advance.

Interesting, i got a heart/lung (Boar) with the .243 polymer at 302m, a 410m double loung (Lesser Kudu). These might be exceptions but it does not solve the problem. As far as i know the only information provides is the difference between the types of ammunation. Which makes the given numbers more or less useless (to me).

The numbers are proportional to one another but not in relation to a known point and there are really weird effects still with regards to class of animal and class of weapon: this is apparently being worked on. It's just an approximation of what to expect from that ammunition; we don't have hard figures like "it takes at least 15 [units] of penetration to reach lungs on a boar."

Every time I log in I get a prompt that I've completed a mission in Hunt Club and I need to go to the section to get my reward, but when I go there I just get the text that there aren't any events available for current period. @sour elm Theoretically, when you discover a need zone in multiplayer and "pick it up", that need zone should then appear in the same place on your singleplayer map. Not much more I can say besides that.
I say "theoretically" because this mechanic has been very buggy for me and only works sometimes.

Hi guys. In codex it says for red deer weapon pack 3. I hunt 2 red deer. Male one's integrity bonus was %100 but female's was %0. Any thought ?

Might now be related to weight, a smaller class 3 animal can be 'overkilled' by a class three weapon, I'm thinking, if their individual weight is too low. I can't see why else .223 is providing 40% integ on Axis deer with 1-hit kills.

It's super fucky right now. I don't know what it's like for bow hunters but probably more generous margins so it's less of a problem for them. Shotguns have a lot of the same advantages as bows (variable ammo types for different classes of target while only needing one weapon) but the whole integ thing and ballistics are pretty wonky with shotguns too.

Most folks say duck hunting. I didn't notice any mission chains in particular paying better than others, but it's a good way to rack up some cash for doing simple shit like grabbing photos, moving to point X, so on.

My best luck is using a 7mm or higher and going up and down the river towards the middle of layton lakes from 9AM-1PM. You'll easily get 10-20 moose in that span if youre hitting heart shots

I suspect so. There's a lot of flexibility in those two weapons, I appreciate that, have wanted a Drilling for a long time or a S/R O/U; drillings can just be two rifles, real old world classic kind of weapon, or they can be shotgun/rifle combinations. The implementation here between the new revolver and this particular Drilling (wonderful to see a good European game caliber like 9.3, IMO) adds a lot of flexibility for firearms hunters.
And room for expansion later with a FMJ'd 7.62x54R, patch that in sometime I imagine.

They really review this integrity thing. For ex. It gives %100 integrity when you hunt whitetail with .270. But you cant get it with blacktail whaaaat (!) . Im coming from Classic and there is a list named Permitted for. Cotw doesnt have it, also, it says weapon pack 3 for red deer but you cant hunt it with 600gr arrow(weapon pack 3).
Im comparing 2 games right now. Cotw really realllly good but this integrity thing...... terrible -_-

There are different markets to cater to and all that, and one thing that really shocked me to learn was how effective arrows can be in terms of getting those deep penetrations (huehue); in Canada for example it is legal to cull bears with 420gr out of a 60-65lb compound.
But the counterintuitivity of the firearms and ammunition types really, really need to be addressed. Right now it's so messed up that the game codex has no bearing on actual gameplay.
What I meant with the first part of my comment was that I'm a gun guy, not a bow hunter, so I didn't understand the capability of bows "IRL" as it were, and they seemed OP in game as a result. They probably are, but since talking to some bow hunters here I've rationalised it a lot better.
That doesn't un-break the guns, but it at least makes more sense to me. I haven't actually seen any diamonds yet myself so I haven't had the frustration of losing a major trophy like that, but I have also gotten bitten by the "what do you mean that's 0% integ?" thing a few times. The way we're taught in Canada is you use as much gun as you can shoot accurately to put the animal down; .303 is good to go on everything from moose to coyote. It makes a proper mess of a coyote, but since the point is killing the coyote and not eating the coyote, that's not a problem... and on larger herbivores, .303 doesn't blow a deer in half or anything absurd, it's not an antitank rifle. The game clearly has totally different logic and in my first 50hrs that was the biggest learning curve.

@polar spindle You can always try for blacktail and rabbits on Layton Lakes. Rabbits are fairly easy to find and kill.
Blacktail are a bit more challenge with the .357 but doable
Coyotes are there as well and good for lvling handguns but a bit more difficult to find at times.

hi guys, I'm still having a bit of trouble with this main mission involving Bohndorf Lake and Red Deer
asides from scent sprays (currently useless to me as I lack any points to put into scent spray skills at this time), any advice for completing this mission? I have yet to find any red deer need zones around this portion of the map--only boar and roe deer show up here.

@wicked moat Thx for your message and your interest! 😃 I have started out to do this only recently. I'm trying to apply different tactics to different parts of the map. In any case, I am collecting need zones of the animals I'm after at the moment and try not to overwrite them with need zones of different species (this can be an issue especially with drinking zones at lakes) or to erase them by applying hunting pressure. When I shoot an animal out of a zone and I have the time to so, I will reverse-track it to get a need zone from it before I harvest it. As for different strategies, I'm trying either to especially shoot the big males and get them to respawn or, as explained by Flinter in his current herd management video series on YT, to kill mid-sized males and leave the large ones alone. So far, non of those strategies have gotten me a potential diamond to spawn, but some nice golds and more crowded areas around need zones. But I've started doing this only two weeks ago and haven't really played much since then, so I cannot really judge how efficient either of those ways might be yet.

@glossy galleon I'm still fairly new at this too, but my recommendation is to level up with the rifle to get the soft feet perks, allowing you to get closer for handgun shots.
and stick to smaller game for the hand guns, nothing larger than deer, until you unlock the 454.

That's a good idea though, should patch in a gun case on it. Still not super helpful because it scares the shit out of game in a very wide radius but maybe easier to "stage" the ATV somewhere between your intended hunting zone and the outpost you left from.

Depends on how your skills are as a player - can you guess distance decently? - or if you have the rangefinders. I use the standard one and a laser rangefinder because I have it, but I haven't found it to matter very much yet since I typically try to get close for a shot.
I am probably losing points value on each kill because of that though, come to think of it. Does distance matter for kill scores?

Well, the 7mm is accuracy 33, recoil 82, with projo values of pen20exp53 (soft) and pen40exp12 (poly), both class 3.
The 7.62x54R has only soft, is pen15exp17, and class 2 out of a accuracy 64 recoil 58 rifle.
.270 is a accuracy 55, recoil 64 rifle with 17pen24exp (soft) and 35pen5exp (poly), both class 2.
9.3x74R however is 20pen and 53exp in its soft nose variant and 40pen/12exp in poly, which to me feels more like the 7mm.

Got a bug of my own I could use some help with as well.
Basically I need to restore my THP_Player_Profile file, but to do so I need a "donor". Tested with a friend, but it seems like I either need someone who's collected Grankin's shotgun and the Parque Fernando skins or I'll lose both. So yeah, if anyone would be up for helping me out of that pickle, a PM would be nice! (I'd prefer level 60, as thats what I am myself, but I can work myself back up again from lower levels as well as long as the weapon skins are restored)

You'll meet the puma as you leave the cave, but if you die in the cave and ended up respawning at the nearest hunting lodge, I don't know how the scripting will work.

I use the .22 to spook them instead of whistle, the 410 close and the 20 or 16 g far away. Grab 2-6 geese avg depending on of they land on top of me or give me some space.
the hay bales don't work for me, what does is a huge open farm field with either a bowl or a hill in the middle, I park in/on that

I do that with the shotgun...i let them land..then choose one to shoot in the ground, normally the one more far away from me (or those who allow me to shoot two with just one shot) and with that the others get spooked and fly away..i unload the rest of the shotgun in those

I haven't found the .22 to be better because by the time I reacquire the second goose and shoot it, the flock is going airborne and I need to get the shotgun out to drill the remainder.
So 12Ga bird from the Cacciatore puts out the most firepower, shoot grouped geese on the ground if you can get a two-for-one angle, then unload the magazine into the flock as they try to get away.
I usually bring a second shotgun also, Norden 20Ga preferably, because sometimes switching to another gun happens fast enough to get one or two more.

the .22 is also great for getting geese really far away in flight but it takes some acc% drop to get used to leading them

The most I've gotten is 13 or so with 2 flocks. It's better not to even call them in. They fly in a straight line, so you can easily pick them off .22 with the 4 power scope. You just have to learn the proper lead and bullet drop.
I generally liquidate the entire flock.

So, I'm not sure if the decoys influence the spawn frequency of the geese, but I use them anyway.

- Sit in the middle of the largest straw field you can find so you have the widest possible view.
- Wait until you hear geese. Sometimes I'll shift+tab until I head them. Some formations will be too far away to engage.
- Learn how to lead the geese in relation to the .22 bullet drop. Again, I find the lowest power scope works the best, as they generally wont be too far away.
I perfected it in an hour or so, to the point where any flock that comes within earshot gets completely wiped.
Dont bother using calls. That just spreads out their direction of flight and adds the factor of the angle of their climb.
Today alone I made well over $100k and gained about 9 levels.

The Ascent scope (1-4x) gives you the widest FoV as well, so that'll be more useful in shooting moving targets like this.

This is close to what I do. I've only managed 8 in one go, but I think I'm using less decoys too (10-15 per field). I don't often have more than 2 small groups land.

Whenever I feel like it.
The important thing to remember is that when they are getting shot in the sky, they never alter their path. The just continue in a straight line.
Also, if you hit a goose with a .22, it is guaranteed to fall. As long as you hit it once, no matter where, it will definitely fall.
So you dont have to keep shooting until it drops.

better with the .22 letting em fly away. I still have em land first and use 410 or a shotgun but my new best following @hollow badge words is 14. The new standard for a landing is 6-8. My favorite though is getting 7 for 7 when just one flock landed. Very satisfying

I'd say so at the very least. Anyways here, basically someone else needs to send you a copy of their own. The downside is that you wont be able to redo missions, which means that whatever missions they have done, it'll count for yours as well. This means that things like the Parque skins and Grankins shotgun wont be unlockable for you unless if they also send their player file, which would replace your inventory with their own

And yeah it sucks that you lost progress there mate; while the narrative isn't a draw for me it is nice to have goals given to you at times and it is nice to run those and the XP and cash bonuses are genuinely helpful.

One thing I enjoyed on my profile reset was not visiting lookout towers to survey. It made me explore more of the map on foot and really nail need zones and animal travel. I also seem to find more of those random collectables and unlocks without trying for them.
I've noticed that if I circle an area though, like a lake or a chunk of elevation, that it sometimes will soft fill in the gaps like it does if I had visited a tower.

Walking around is the best thing. I think I almost collected all the collectibles and the interest points on Layton. You can also find great surprises, like a diamond, a rare, or an amazing paysage, like that Time where I went on the very top of mount leviathan (IT is doable).
