Imo there are two ways. Either you put a tent were he spawns and teleport there for the picture or the classic way. As you pretty much can’t get close enough at the river follow him to the second spot lime 500 m away. There you can spot him at about 40m away.

Callers and bushes are your best friends definitely. You can also check animal hotspots from community guides if you have trouble finding some specific one. But mostly do missions or just walk to the wind and see what comes.

I've been mostly doing bowhunting in Savanna and that is really good place to train yourself. Move from bush to bush in the opens, never go deep in the forest because warthogs will run you down 😄 Dirt will be your best friend when crawling towards the drinking herd by the lake. That will definitely test your skills.

It says you need a handgun, so technically you could use the .357 but IIRC the task requires you to get 100% quick kill bonus.

I noticed that zeroing perk on the bow doesn't seem to work correctly for me: short range zeroing still shoots over the target, while not having the zeroing perk on works fine.

ATV is nice for exploring but not needed really. Makes opening maps a bit faster. I'd suggest playing the game and if you enjoy then start checking out which dlc seems useful for you.

Also fox tips for people who have trouble with foxes. They can take up to 2-5 mins (depending on their difficulty) to circle around to you, and will always circle around to downwind (so use scent eliminators if you have them) before approaching you. Either snipe them from 200m+ or use a scent eliminator before calling. Only call ONCE or TWICE otherwise they spook in my experience.

also tents are useful for hotspots where you find lots of need zones grouped under a vantage point if you main rifles/sniping. I have one at the very top of the hill at Bohndorf Lake and just snipe the red deer that inevitably spawn there nearly every time to get my consecutive harvests up.

Also for anyone with the Vurhonga DLC who want cheap shots on buffalo and have the ATV DLC also - drive after a big herd until you reach an open plain and chase them across it. Jump off your ATV and equip your .470 really quick. They'll be within 50m and ready to aim a spine shot at.

oof. If this is for the quest, there's a small clearing just west of the lake - they'll sometimes spawn there after 6:00PM. If there's no dice with that, call them in from Cheelah up to the north border. No luck there, chase them from southern Balmont over the border if you can. Other than that, I ended up finding them to the long stretch to the far east of the mountain (coming down from Cheelah) - but it's just luck, I'm afraid. Clear out as many need zones in Mt Leviathan as you can to increase the chance of new species (i.e. coyotes) spawning in their place.

I'm not sure if they actually fixed the spawns for this specific quest when they said they did in the patch notes, as I can't do the quest again.

OK, well .243, .270, .30-30, .45-70, and 20 and 12Ga slug are all class two.

#

But the slugs and any rifle other than .243 on any deer (black/white tail, roe/fallow) other than red deer (class 3 critter) is shit integrity. White tail can apparently be downed with .270 fine, but I just tried .30-30 on them and it didnt' work, and .45-70 is way hotter, so probably work even worse.

The way that I use all of those rifles + cartridges now is as "challenge" guns, where I like them, so I use them with good ammo and careful shot placement to drop class three animals.

So it isn't a case of they're just lever gun styled choices to fill the same roles, because they don't get integrity scores if you use them in those roles, despite being the same class two weapons.

They are not equivalent rifles.

Based on integrity scores, you will not get 3x100% values if you use them. That's the basis of my "wtf is this all for then?" because, as you've said already, .243 and 7mm do everything you need on every map.

#

I find they're better for follow up shots and they have good penetration, so for dangerous game, probably better. But the bolt guns also cycle very quickly (time between individual shots, rather than reloading empty weapon), so.

Shoot very small critters with it apparently. Supposedly roe and fallow deer are good for levelling out of the .357 quickly... but I find it too frustrating so I just don't bother with pistols except the .357 sometimes carried to pump a few into a bear if I'm rushed and flub a rifle shot

As soon as you unlock the flathead hard cast bullets for the .357, you can heart shot or spine shot deer quite easily. Learn where the heart is and the hard cast .357 round will have no trouble reaching it. If you are having trouble with starting ammo, try a shot to the back of the neck.

Caller is your best friend and find need zones. Hide in bushes and have high ground if possible so you can see it coming before it can see you and they are noctural animal so it's most active at late evening and night.

They can take up to 2-5 mins (depending on their difficulty) to circle around to you, and will always circle around to downwind (so use scent eliminators if you have them) before approaching you. Don't overuse the caller, they're prone to spooking. They're found at night evenly over the map, not more nor less in a particular region.

yeah, just wait in a bush close to a need zone whilst "nearly invisible" - the semi-transparent line on the visibility indicator - and use your caller and scent eliminators. wait for it to come close.

Having the same problem with that Lake Cheelah mission, if its not the fact that no animals ever show up at the lake, meaning there is nothing to shoot and harvest, on my last attempt a Blacktail did appear, I killed it only to find that they don't actual register for the completion of the mission, despite what the description says. So if anyone knows how to make a lot of whitetail appear in this area at night please let me know asap.

The Lake Cheelah night hunt mission required me to patiently patrol the area until I found a bunch of need zones, then I completed it with a blacktail buck.

So the day before, find need zones, then hunt the patrol box at night. I am annoyed over the mission wording; deer usually ends up meaning bucks.

All species have the potential to have diamond-rated individuals, if that's what you meant. Your best bet is to figure out which is the highest "difficulty rating" and unlock the skill that allows you to see the approx. trophy rating (not weight) when you spot it with binocs. If it's the highest range, and a high difficulty (4-5 for fallow), it's got a decent chance of being capable of being diamond. @bold patrol If you're not in the business of caring about spoilers, check the general chat where I've put a storyline bear that nearly everyone else got a Diamond rating for (with all three stats at 100%) - it's a Mythical, but the "trophy rating" (its skull size) wasn't generated high enough in my game for it to be ranked diamond.

For instance, this moose I saw yesterday on the Taiga - I knew just from my two eyes (without spotting or checking weight or trophy rating) that its rack was large enough to make it eligible for a Diamond ranking. Will upload pic now

Each need zone has time estimation when you can expect animals to be there. If you go during that time, then there is high chance of animals.

Weight has little to do with deer rank, it's about the "trophy rating", or the size of the antlers. Of course a larger, older buck (i.e. heavier) is logically more likely to have larger antlers, though I believe the trophy mechanic more accurately represents it.

Untrue. I stalked a moose on Medved just last night, max. weight was 620kg, which is the highest tier - when I spotted it, it was only a level 4 difficulty, and had a gold-trophy-level rack.

Of course it would be related, I'm just saying that in all the time I've played this game, it's way more accurate to go off the trophy rating estimation than the weight - though of course the weight is an excellent preliminary to get an idea of the animal you're dealing with

I've had a couple times I thought that had happened, but it was never actually the case. What I did was corkscrew out from my last good track until I found more spoor.

I have had times where the track bent by 90deg and the next spoor was twice as far as usual, that I almost gave up on, but it isn't always consistent especially around rocks.

Having started a whole new save game last week just before the Duck DLC came out, I'm still currently on Layton Lakes, so was wondering at what Level you'd change to other reserves? I know from my previous save that Medved and Africa are best going to when your high level and have most of the skills, perks and weapons unlocked but what about Hirsch? When is a good time to start venturing there?

What kind makes think their is a route to how you should inititally tackle the reserves is looking at what levels the required callers and scents and stuff become available. So Layton is a no brainer starting reserve as you start with the Deer Bleat Caller, soon get the Predator Jackrabbit Caller and Elk where as if you started on Hirsch it's a long time before you get the Fallow Deer Caller, Red Deer Caller, Boar Callers and the scents, which would make hunting there as a low level starting player a real grind.

Yes, i dont know that when i start playing. Right now i'm around 25-27lvl... not sure exacly and i have som stuff...
I probably will go to LL for ducks... i still dont know many things about this game and i trully hate shop, it's so hard to find certain type of ammo or read description what is better.
I think there can me many things that can be do better, but anyway i very lke this game and i'm glad that there is many new content....
I have all DLC and i still in first reserve :)

Hirch is a bit more challenging than Layton and it has a lot more color. It's so pretty and you can feel like you breath the fresh air when you walk around those fields. But everyone has their favorites.

Do you use Bitdefender? If so you need to make sure it excludes the save folder. Also are you sure you didn't press new game instead of continue? Hi Moratir! I'd say try Hirsch too! Both reserves are great to start tho. Layton has a lot of animals but they are a bit tougher in general to take down with the starter rifle. Hirsch has more suitable animals to start with but it's a bit more bushy environment so you might scare more animals with sound. So try both and see which you prefer 😃

Well there kinda is no "done with map". You can finish all the missions, you can kill all animals but you can still enjoy the game same. It's an open world game so do what you like best! If you want to go hunt in savanna, do it! Everyone has their preferences what to hunt and where so you will know best by playing them 😃

Have fun and enjoy the game 😃 No need to sweat too much where to hunt. Unlock new gear, do missions as they are good source of xp and cash or just start walking and see what you come across with. Exploring is great in the game.

so, I've never seen a diamond level animal in my game so far. I think it's because I'm struggling to get to vantage points over large open areas so I can scope them out. because If I'm going through forests etc they've probably seen/smelt/heard me well before I ever get nearby

How do Diamond animals present? My understanding is I would see, for example, a L5 bear and if I shot it properly it'd be a diamond kill, otherwise a gold. I've only seen one 8 Mythical so far, which is a lynx.

But it doesn't list off as being a diamond, for example, and not all animals are mythical but you can get diamonds from L5 Elk or what have you.

@terse narwhal Integrity is weird when switching from rifle calibers to arrows. For example, the 7mm is ethical for black bear, but 600 gr arrows, which should theoretically be the equivalent of the 7mm because they are in the same weapon class, is not. Sometimes, sites that display weapon classes are not 100% accurate. It takes some experimentation to get accurate integrity tables. So, I'd say, when in doubt, use 420 gr arrows. They work on most game. I've even used them to down moose in one shot.

I personally would get Vuhonga before I got Medved. The Tiaga is filled with disturbing amounts of floating vegetation and rocks. Tents dlc is great as it gives you more places to change gear and fast travel to. Might consider the weapon pack dlc as it adds some new weapons to the game. If you were only going to get one. Vuhonga would be my suggestion. If more, go with tents and or weapons

I have 2 questions
1 How does it work when I have tracks of lets say a diamond or I see a diamond in a certain area. If I choose not to go after it and do that in another session wil that specific diamond be still there?
And 2, how does it work with the thing of shooting animals and they come back as potential diamons later, as Flinter and THEHUNTERDD33 talked about in a stream

@topaz crag , 1: yes the animal will not go away. If you hunt it next week it will still be there, 2: If you shoot a male animal, there is a chance it will be a higher level when a new one spawns in, so if it's like a level 8 Water buffalo , it could be a level 9 when it respawns. Or a level 5. I am not very sure about the second answer though. Maybe someone can confirm.

If you go to the area you originally put the dynamite at you should be prompted with the option to place it again

When this beta was put up, I copied over the folder with the many numbers in my ‘Saves’ folder into the ‘delivery trailblazer beta’ folder. So I could play with my own gear. This worked like a charm, like it did during the gemsbok beta. You think I can do the reverse too? Copy the many numbers folder from the ‘delivery trailblazer beta’ folder back into the ‘Saves’ folder. I have backups from before and after any changes in the game so I can try it.. but if a dev sees this: is this guaranteed to break things? Or can I test it and if nothing weird happens continue on? I wanna try this because there’s a diamond in there :’)

I have really bad graphics, it's a bit hard to explain, but i have everything on ultra (Except AA which i turned off) but i still get some very blurry and grainy graphics (not on the gun and hands) especially in the vegetation. Most the vegetation is already very "twitchy" when i move my character

Can anybody help me make sense of the following: “When you host a multiplayer game and guest players discover a need zone, this is currently not saved in your own single player game. The host (i.e. you) has to discover another need zone in order for the guest found need zones to be saved.”

I disabled themission system right off the bat and unlocked all outposts and lookouts before I enabled it again xD now i cant finish the very firstmission lol

Back up your save
Make a new save
Transfer the map files from the new save to your old save
Put your old save back in the folder

Thanks @sturdy coral which files would you think i need? The map files aren’t stored separately are they?

I do also have a backup save from just when the reserve was released so I can use that to get the files i need
